according to Steve popper of Newsday all indications are brunson’s willing to sign a 4-year 156 million contract extension provide five more years of certainty in New York rather than waiting until next summer for a 5year $270 million extension if he signs this extension and doesn’t wait until next summer to sign an extension he would be leaving on the table $4 million in potential earnings is this surprising to me that Brunson would sign the extension now rather than wait to get more money no it’s not surprising you want to know why because he was going to do the same thing in Dallas Brunson has never been about the money he’s never been a dollars guy he is not about that life he doesn’t care about that if anything else he would rather help the team that he’s on and him signing this extension is absolutely going to do that
Jalen Brunson has turned into a Superstar right before our eyes. But what he’s always been since coming to this team is a leader. Always making the necessary sacrifices for this team. With Brunson’s new contract, he can choose to get paid massive money. But instead, he’s likely to sign an extension well below his market value to allow NY more flexibility to make the right moves this offseason.

That is not a good idea. If one day he is not good, the team will just dump him. An employee should always take the max salary he deserves because nobody cares about him and he is disposable.
If he does this, he will go down as one of the most selfless players in the NBA !

Cap space is expected to increase exponentially in 2027, so he could be making 70million/yr. Jaylen Brown contract pays him 65million/yr around that time, just based off of today, let alone signing at that time with definitive numbers.
