the New York Knicks appear to be one of the teams interested in L Markin via trade this off season and we have to talk about this so what’s up guys welcome back to Nicks digest it’s Chris here and Nicks would love to get Lori marinin in there with OG an anobi and Jaylen Brunson and then said he’s a better fit with them than Julius Randall is because of the shooting and if they could swap Randall for marinin then cough up a lot of first rounders like maybe five six you then have to think that might get Danny a on board but they don’t want Randle in the deal so it has to be picks I’m sorry what five or six picks five or six picks for Lori marinan okay one player last season between Julius Randall and Lori Markin was an All-Star one of them would have been a three-time allba player but it’s still a two- time all NBA player which is more than the other and one of them needs six draft picks attached to him six first round draft picks attached to him to trade for the other you’d all imagine that wouldn’t be the same one guy but no because somehow some way despite the fact that Julius Randle puts up 25 points per game and 10 rebounds with four assists gives good numbers had the Knicks killing it in January when he averaged over 30 points per game with Jaylen Brunson when the team was the best offense and the best defense in the NBA when they basically were perfect when they went on a massive win streak that the only loss even seen was when Bronson was injured against the Orlando Magic a playoff team who the Knicks lost to by Four Points because they missed a game tying three they need to trade five or six draft picks to get Lori marinan if they attach those five or six draft picks to Julius Randall first of all first of all if the if the Jazz don’t want Julius Randall then why the hell would they trade for Julius Randall with five or six first round picks the contracts don’t match up so in this situation you’re assuming that the Jazz are just willing to eat $12 million of a player they don’t want I’m sorry but is this Western Conference executive just like an idiot is he because there’s a way around this Lori marinin makes $19 million per year buan bogdanovich makes 20 and is an expiring contract if you said Buon and five first rounders for Lori marinan I’d believe that I’m not gonna believe what dude Julius is better than marinin he’s a better player he is an Allstar he is an all NBA player he is one of the reasons why the New York Knicks have been revitalized also he creates his own shot why the hell what no I I genuinely like cannot understand I can’t wrap my head around this but still when you look at Lor’s stats yes he’s an elite three-point shooter he shoots 40% from three as a stretch four power forward who’s also seven feet tall he averages 23 points per game Julius averages more he averages 8.2 assists Julius averages more he averages two or 8.2 rebounds which Julius averages more he averages two assists which Julius averages more but somehow someway Julius Randall and five or six first rounders might get Lori Markin a guy who wasn’t an All-Star this season makes total sense yeah no no no no real smart real smart that’s what the Nick should do they should um they should trade Julius Randle their other shot Creator along with five first round picks for a guy who can create his own shot who relies on spot UPS look in our new graphics we add some key stats below the height and the weight Lorry shoots 43% on Corner threes which is great but the Knicks have D venzo and OG who were better than that he also hits 98% of his threes those are assisted meaning he creates 2% of his made threes I don’t even want to know his percentage on on made Theses that he’s creating for himself 50% of his shots or 49% of his shots are threes look does the court spacing make it better for Jaylen Brunson to attack inside sure yes it does but it also means that Jaylen Bronson’s now the only guy in the Knicks who could create his own shot if you make that trade something that was the biggest problem the Knicks had in the playoffs I don’t feel like watching Lori Mar and get exposed in the playoffs something he’s never been to in seven years because he can’t create his own shot I know I know Julius has not had good playoff performances I get it I understand I know Lori Markin is a good player I get it I understand the Knicks need shot creation more than they need anything else they need shot creation subtracting Julius and your entire draft closet so you can’t make another move for Lori makes no sense now if you want to add Lori and play him at small forward and think it can work I understand why you think that I don’t think it would work I think he’s a power forward but if you want to say you know what put him at small forward and have him be a spot up and put OG at the two and put d venzo as the Sixth Man go right ahead make that argument I understand where it comes from but Julius creates his own shot and can run an offense in a way that Lori marinan can’t and if Lori marinan could then the Utah Jazz would not have went 31 and 51 last season but he can’t and that hinders him let’s be real Lori Markin in at best is a third best player on a championship team that is what he is now I also think teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder can come in and offer like I don’t know they have a tradeable contract n they have cap space so they could just kind of throw I don’t know six seven firsts to the Jazz and Danny a will absolutely take it and then the Knicks don’t get him and we Dodge the bullet that is trading Julius for a guy who can’t create his own shot again I understand Lor is a great player I get it but he doesn’t fit better with the Knicks than Julius does with this current iteration now if you want to make some idea where it’s like you know what let’s trade for a different shot Creator and then let’s trade Randall for Markin in I again see where you’re coming from I’m not trying to bash Lori I get he’s a great player but the Knicks need shot creation more than they need a stretch four they have they have spacing dude hartenstein works out of the high post 90% of the time okay he’s the only one on the roster who can’t shoot who starts D venzo Elite shooter Jaylen Brunson Elite shooter one of the best players in the NBA he’ll make it work ogan anobi Elite shooter Julius Randall great in the mid-range can hit threes enough to keep the the defense honest Brunson doesn’t need to attack inside all the time why because he’s one of the best shoo in the NBA there’s no reason why the New York Knicks should make a trade like that that’s preposterous now this NBA Anonymous Western Conference Executive also said that the Jazz always listen Danny A’s reputation is overblown he wants a championship team he wants to do what Sam pry has done in Oklahoma City he knows he’s a long way off still they’ll be tough and the price will be high and that’s how it should be the price should not be in an all-nba player and five first round picks for a guy who’s neither an all-nba player or even an All-Star last season that just doesn’t make sense it Julius is the only player in the NBA who has to deal with that he is the most underrated player in basketball because no one else is saying that all right let’s pick a different NBA player who was not a starter in the All-Star Game let’s pick one um Jimmy Butler bam out of Bio the heater interested bam in five first they going to say about bam no um Lakers are interested Anthony Davis I understand Anthony Davis is a lot better than Julius Randall but he didn’t you know you know just no I’m I’m not I’m not I’m not gonna keep going with it Oklahoma City Thunder they don’t have to offer some all NBA talent in five firsts they don’t have to do that they don’t have to give Jaylen Williams and five firsts and Julius is better than Jaylen Williams Julius is an All-Star Jaylen Williams is not an All-Star yet I don’t understand what the hell is wrong with people don’t get it I’ll never get it but why the hell do the Knicks need to give this same thing with Mel Bridges why is it oh Wolf the Knicks give Julius Rand and four first round picks no no Julius is better Julius average is over 20 points per game unlike M does Nicks have an lead on ball Defender and Oobi guess who didn’t play a they got in those Jaylen Durant us men xang stuff that they did a few years back in the at the draft day then you give your own top 10 protected 2026 first round pick and guess what I would not even love if the Knicks did that trade that’s just the most I’d give for Lorie marinan no I understand he’s a great player don’t get me wrong that’s a Preposterous trade Randall and five first i’ I’d This is just League execs trying to lower Randle's value cause they know he's a stud and they want him on their teams.
A Knicks-Utah trade for Lauri Markkanen only makes sense if it's one where the Knicks are sending Mitchell Robinson (and a few picks) to Utah in exchange for Lauri Markkanen. At 7'0", he can be inserted into the starting line-up as the Center (a stretch 5) who at times plays the stretch 4. Isiah Hartensten (hopefully if re-signed) can come off the bench. So, the starting line-up could be: Jalen Brunson, whatever SG, OG Anunoby, Julius Randle, and Lauri Markkanen. LMarkkanen can give the Knicks more dimension at the 5, the same way Sixers Joel Embiid and Pacers Myles Turner were having their way against the Knicks centers by shooting the mid-range and 3-pointers. Lauri doesn't need to be a high level rim protector or anything like that with the Knicks. As long as he buys in to Coach Thibs positional defensive philosophy, it'll be fine.
Btw, the various trade machines out there show a "TRADE FAIL" if the trade is Julius Randle for Lauri Markkanen due to the fact that Randle's annual salary is $10 Million more than Markkanen's. So, if the trade centers around Julius Randle, Utah will have to provide more more players to the Knicks. However, the trade goes through without a problem if it's just a straight up trade centered around Mitchell Robinson for Lauri Markkanen. That trade works. If the Knicks can get that MRobinson – LMarkkanen trade done without giving up too much picks, the Knicks may also be able to trade for Mikal Bridges in a trade cetered around Bojan Bogdanovic.
EDIT UPDATE: While the Julius Randle for Lauri Markkanen trade failed in a couple of NBA Trade scenario sites, the trade was successful on other NBA Trade scenario sites. I'm still in agreement with you, though…I wouldn't trade away Julius Randle for Lauri Markkanen.

The disconnect between Randle's real value and what most Knicks fans think he's worth is in the details. In the is video he says Randle averaged over 30 points in January. He actually averaged 24.9 points. He also averaged 3.8 turnovers, which would have been 3rd in the league.
Lauri gives the scoring and rebounding without the turnovers…and the pouting…and the temper tantrums…and inconsistent defensive effort. He's 4 inches taller and 3 years younger than Randle too.
If Utah is willing to take a horrible contract back with a bunch of picks, the trade might work. Get the Wizards involved. They would certainly love to get off of Jordan Poole's deal. Knicks get Lauri. Wizards get Randle. Utah takes Pooles' horrible deal and 3 picks from Washington and 3 picks from NY. Or something like that. Lauri is definitely better than Julius (by a wide margin) if we are talking about play styles that contribute to wins instead of cheering for players padding their stats to get individual accolades.
5 picks and Julius is a booker of KD trade , and that’s 3 of those picks being the protected ones Knicks have from other teams
Danny ainge only won the NBA championship with the Celtics because his friend Kevin McHale gave away Kevin Garnett to him . He hasn't done anything since 2008.
Keep Randle. He will be a man on a mission next year. Great point about him getting his own shots.
