Utah Passes 34,000 Season Ticket Deposits, Ducks Listening on Zegras and Gibson, AHL Playoffs

welcome back yeah I’m wearing a basketball jersey cuz I’m going to talk about Utah and it’s a news of the day video for all you find people on the internet it is now June the 5th we’re almost through the first month of June already and of course the hockey is back on Saturday so it’s almost a week without hockey uh but Utah making some news today uh announcing that they’ve exceeded 34,000 season ticket deposits so there’s not enough seats to seat everybody in that uh so you end up with a wait list or you end up with people going with half seon uh quarter season tickets that kind of thing and you go from there but they’re not having a problem selling tickets at all which I mean it’s their first year so you expect that enthusiasm to be there um and then you see whether or not it’s going to stay it’s stayed pretty enthusiastic in Vegas um the other most recent and I mean there’s expansion in Seattle it’s still really really well attended in Seattle and of course uh the Jets moved from Atlanta we saw a dip in their attendance over the last bit here but we we understand there’s various reasons for that uh Utah’s doing well though and what’s interesting with Utah’s numbers is 92% of those deposits are from non season ticket holders of the Utah Jazz so they’re not season ticket holders with Utah uh the team that wears this jersey here I reserve the right to wear this in a a street hockey uh game too this summer but 60% of the season ticket deposits also uh came from people who did not attend an event at Delta Center over the last year here now uh this arena is not built for hockey it is built for basketball meaning there are obstructed view seats and so those seats are starting at $19 a piece uh and you know what honestly for 20 bucks to sit down and watch an NHL game even if it’s an obstructed view where you don’t see the whole ice surface I mean it’s 20 it’s 20 bucks to sit down and watch a watch a hockey game even if you’re not seeing the whole life surface I think that’s that’s not bad uh but they are doing extensive renovations to the delta Center to make it so that there are much much fewer of those um obstructed view seats and of course the plan is there’s a brand new Arena that they’re going to put up uh the the government’s already okayed the funding the money’s already there it’s just a matter of when the new arena is going to open but the fact that this this building is going to be full about 16,000 people that they’re looking at selling uh per game for for NHL hockey that’s pretty good so uh all the best to Utah as they continue to go through this process of getting their team all set up uh but it definitely looks like the enthusiasm is there on the Grassroots level and that’s the important thing as long as the city and the the market are excited uh then then it should work uh Vancouver expanding the sadin role within the team as coaches uh they’ll be focusing it looks like on on abbottford which is great uh the abbottsford Canucks and I’ve I’ve seen some complaints that oh they haven’t developed very many players for the NHL but julson and DJ seppi to me stand out as two guys guys who their time in abbottford has helped them become pretty darn good Vancouver Canucks as well and so yeah getting the sadin more involved with the day-to-day uh more involved with the the young guys coming up in the organization could be huge uh there are definitely some good young players in in abbottford uh raw two steps stands out to me as one that maybe could really benefit from some one-on-one time with either of the sadine twins uh and the expectation seems to be that eventually one or the or both sadine twins will have a very prominent role within the organization um meaning that maybe at some point they become one of them becomes assistant GM or maybe they both become assistant GM uh for Patrick Alvine uh but it’s good the sadin obviously very supremely talented players when they played uh they’re still in pretty good shape as well and I like the idea of them helping out with the kids on the farm uh so Anaheim uh a team that’s bringing in a bunch of kids got a bunch of kids on the roster already and they’re going to draft some more more uh they’re listening to offers on Trevor zis and John Gibson not a surprise both of these names have been talked about a lot in trade rumors uh I do think that at times zis gets overrated a little bit I also think at times that maybe trading him now is not the best of ideas just CU I don’t think his value will be as high right now as it could be in say like this November if he has a really good start to the season you might have a higher asking price the thing is of course right now teams would have the cap space by July the 2nd they have none so yeah Trevor zis uh will we see him leaving the Anaheim Ducks anytime he gets mentioned a lot of people jump on it I seem to see Montreal fans jump on that rumor a lot online I don’t know if those rumors are being fed by somebody else or if it’s just somebody at some point said hey Montreal would be great with Zager and it’s just stayed that way uh but I haven’t seen anything directly linking uh the Ducks and the Habs at this point uh but Gibson I think is the more lik to go of the two I think that you know after last summer and then how this season played out I think it just makes sense to move Gibson doy looks like he’s ready and anaheim’s got some some decent depth in the net you can always go out and pick up a backup goenda could very well be available he’s had a pretty good year in Florida and so if Florida doesn’t doesn’t keep him around in July he You Could See Stars maybe going back to Anaheim uh but yeah Gibson I think could get them a good return he’s 30 years of age you you want to make sure that you get him dealt while he still has that market value and while he played through this season and I never heard a complaint from him my guess is he’s going to want a chance to win he’s going to want a chance to play for a team that’s going to get some playoff games and in all likelihood anaheim’s at least another year away from that so yeah we’ll see what happens there uh AHL playoff uh news tomorrow we’re going to see game four in both series and both series could end both Coachella Valley and Hershey are had three games to nothing in their series as they continue to just steamroll their way through the playoffs Hershey beating Cleveland 6 to2 Coachella Valley beating Milwaukee 5 to2 and so it it looks like it’s just a matter of whether or not they they both round out their series tomorrow or not um and so it’s going to be in all likelihood Hershey which is of course the capitals uh affiliate and Coachella Valley the Kraken affiliate who met in the final last year as well Hershey won that final it was a very hard fought seven game series uh we’ll see if Hershey can win again this year or if Coachella Valley gets their revenge on Hershey um and of of course I’m I’m still potentially going to be reviewing AHL games in the final once we get there uh it’s going to be a matter of when they’re scheduled to happen because of course if there’s a a crossover in terms of time between the AHL final the cder cup and the NHL final the Stanley Cup I’m obviously going to be watching the Stanley Cup game and and so that’s that’s where it gets a little tricky uh last year the AHL final went on for about a week after the Stanley Cup was decided so we’ll see what happens this year I really do enjoy watching AHL games though I honestly I would recommend uh AHL TV I think it’s $30 for the rest of the playoffs I’m talking us um I I think it’s well worth the 30 bucks to watch AHL hockey and see how these prospects do you’d get to watch the final games in these series and then the final as well well it’s a pretty good deal and so that’s what I ended up doing last year for instance so yeah I I honestly I would recommend it especially if you’re one you’re one who just wants to watch hockey and you don’t like all the constant advertising and if you want something that feels like a throwback AHL hockey really reminds me of listening to hockey games on the radio back in the 80s just the way that the audio is done just the way that everything’s done it just it feels very I don’t know feels kind of like home to me but that’s cuz I’m really old so that’s how that works uh so there you go uh but let me know your thoughts in the comment section below if you’ve been watching the AHL playoffs coach Al Val or Hershey who’s going to get it uh Jimmy VC so uh he was injured in game two against the Panthers and it’s come out that he suffered a SE separated shoulder so that’s why he was weak to week uh the good news being a separated shoulder shouldn’t be a problem I would think for him to be healthy come training camp he was just seen as week to week as well so that’s normally a 2 to four week uh recovery when they say we to week but uh it’s it’s too bad for VC not that I think having VC in the lineup means the Rangers would have won the series uh but it’s tough and that’s part of that war of attrition in the playoffs very often the teams that are playing each other in the Stanley Cup Final are the ones that have not dealt with the major injuries and losing key guys up front in net on the blue line uh there’s some good fortune there and there’s just the fact that some of these teams just physically battle so well uh the other team gets beat up while they come out not unscathed but in a little bit better shape than the team they just beat uh but let me know your thoughts in the comments section below as always don’t forget to hit like And subscribe if you’ve not done so already and yeah I figured might as well wear a Utah Jazz Jersey cuz Utah is at the top of the board as you can see I’ve got various Utah magnets at this point as we wait for the team name I want to throw out there there were kids in attendance at this this uh you know uh basically all the fans showing up at Delta Delta Center um who are going to be season ticket holders are hoping to be season ticket holders for Utah and the kids were all chanting for the Utah yetis so the yetis I think will be the name I know people don’t like it I know there’s plenty of people who don’t like it but little kids love it uh there are plenty of people who do like it and think it’s good marketing and so I do think that’s the team name they’re going to end up with uh but we’ll see let me know your thoughts hit like And subscribe if you haven’t done so already thank you guys so much for all your support I will talk to you again soon

  1. A lot of Ducks fans will tell you the Zegras rumors are just made up by Seravalli but I'm not so sure. Zegras definitely doesn't seem like a Verbeek type player and there was that rather ugly and tense contract negotiation. I can see him being moved.

  2. I believe Ryan Smith announced about a month ago that they are just renovating the Delta Center and Salt Lake City did not approve a new arena because the city wants the sports teams downtown. Never the less, we'll see if they can renovate the Delta Center to make the sight lines better for hockey.

  3. Zegras to Montreal rumors are based entirely around the fact that Caufield and Zegras are good friends, spend their summers together and upload a lot of selfies to their social media accounts, still, a lot of reporters never miss a chance to fan the flames of clickbait by bringing up that ''Montreal has inquired about Zegras''

  4. @TheHockeyGuy Ironically, the Jazz just unveiled new uniforms TODAY plus will wear one for half of next season that they will phase out. What you are wearing is better than what I consider a modernized throwback the Jazz plan to wear. I won't be surprised if the Utah NHL team adopts the same colors.

  5. Utah Yetis makes me think their logo will be an insulated coffee cup. I'm hoping for Utah Swarm but that probably won't happen

  6. I don't think I've ever heard anyone over rate Zegras. I see countless hate in his game and this same people have not seen his improvement on defense and transitions. Same thing you hear about Robo. Dude finished 14th in the Selke but constantly hated on

  7. Props to the state of Utah as they don't keep coming up with numerous issues like the state of Arizona did! The new arena should seat 20k…

  8. I think there is one thing about Gibson that has not been discussed much. He doesn't appear to have a real desire to leave the Ducks and play for a possibly better team. If he had a strong desire, he would have been traded years ago. And for that, if I was a fan of a team that wanted/needed him, I wouldn't want Gibson because of his lack of desire to be playing for a playoff contender!

  9. I can't understand trading Zegras, but Gibson makes sense – SO MANY teams are looking for goalies RN, so the asking price should be pretty good.

  10. Zegras needs play more consistently. He's just a flashy forward. If you put the body on him he will become ineffective on a better team that maybe makes the playoffs. Maybe a 2rd round pick in return, at best. Since he only played 31 games this past season, his trade value is lower right now.

  11. Hoping for Coachella to get revenge. Crazy it came down to a Game 7 OT last year. Plus it’d be nice for Wright before he jumps over to being a full-time NHL-er.

  12. I get unobstructed tickets for 15 all the time for dallas games. Not to mention regular season you can get into the platinum deck for around 60$ most days. Guess im spoiled down here.

  13. We hear a LOT about Zegras in Montreal, multiple insiders reported Hugues was contacted (and not the other way around apparently) about Zegras, and the media kept the wagon going making the connection about the friendship between him and Caufield.

To be fair, from my own conversations and what i've been hearing on the radio/podcasts, most fans do not want Zegras in Montreal, mostly for his attitude. Consensus seems to be he wouldn't be able to thrive here with the amount of attention hockey gets

  14. I think mammoth or hive would be a better name than yeti, just sounds cheesy to me but hey that’s why they’re voting so their fans can decide what they want it to be called.

  15. Could there be any legal issues with the Yeti as a name since Colorado had a Yeti as a mascot and have used the yeti foot logo in the past?

  16. The thing I will miss the most about the saddledome is the $20-50 “press level” tickets, perfect almost Birds Eye view of the ice. As someone who gets annoyed with not being able to see much, when you pay $300 to sit in the lower bowl, I love this and hope they bring something similar back in the new arena

  17. Utah: has an arena, a competent owner, and a large season ticket base before even playing a game

    Arizona Coyotes: Okay bigshot… what's your name ??? 😛

  18. Jealous. $20 seats. Even the Rapstors have a standing area during there games. The Canucks here in Vancouver at Rogers only have that much space, even with the ticket prices as high as they are. Rogers is full and pretty much can only hold that many people, the concierge is packed during intermissions.

  19. I would like Yeti more if they existed (in theory) in North America. But what is the connection between Utah and Nepal? Maybe everybody was thinking Sasquatch?

  20. Shannon, absolutely THRILLED that you will be reviewing the remaining games in the chase for the Calder Cup. Yes, I highly recommend that folks take a look at the AHL. It is fast-paced and youth-oriented (but not always). As for my prediction… well this Caps' fan is definitely cheering for the Bears to: #RepeatTheRoar! 🐻🐻🐻

  21. Honestly Utah Yetis actually is a good name cause a) its fierce (unlike a Maple Leafs or a Senator. Leafs fan btw) B) Easy mascot (the Utah Yeti that emigrated from Nepal) C) ITS a creature name that's easy to chant.
