Jayson Tatum Reacts to Criticism During Celtics Playoffs | NBA Finals Practice

for great players where you get defined by whether or not you’ve won a championship how much for you personally does it mean to get one and and how much is that part of your motivation uh I think I would say part of my motivation is I just love the win um and understand in the moment that I know how hard it is to get to the finals um and you know you think that you’re young and if you’ve been once that you would just continue to keep going um and we realized that last year we kind of took it for granted at certain moments and um we didn’t make it to the finals and and this year uh put things in perspective and I think you can see in our excitement right when we won the conference uh obviously that’s not the end all Beall but um it it really is tough to get to this moment so I think right now just staying present in the moment I’m not thinking about you know what it would mean for my legacy or anything like that uh just excited to play some basketball after this long break uh and and go out there and and try to get the job done back left Tim Jason Tim Reynolds with the AP even though you’d already won an Olympic gold medal and you’ve won a bunch of I mean hundreds of games here obviously when you look back at 22 do you almost feel like you had to go through it to understand understand what’s different about this stage and what it takes to win the ultimate thing in this league I mean I guess I hate that I had to go through it I wish we would have won um but I you know I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason there’s a lesson to be learned um in every situation and um I do I do feel a lot different this time this go around um two years later um uh I’m excited for the opportunity uh for us to to get the job done mark back right Mark Spears the ESPN’s andscape Jason is this may maybe it’s perhaps this the case with the Lakers but does this franchise have a different pressure on it uh with all the banners with all the Legends with trying to be amongst those names when it’s all said and done that in order to truly be there you you have to win a champion ship to do that uh I mean you know the answer to that of course right we only hang NBA championship banners right 17 of them um some of the greatest players ever play this game wore this uniform um and you know all of us are honored um to you know following their their their footsteps and the way that they paved for us um to live out our out our dreams so essentially yeah if you if you want to be one of the greats right to put on this uniform um you know every great before you want a championship um and that’s what we try to to play for every single season the expectations are obviously different here uh and you know it takes special players to to be here and to be a part of uh an environment like that second row here on the left Jason Nick G field level media you guys bring in Drew holiday this off season he obviously had the title run with Milwaukee do he kind of offer A New Perspective on the finals that maybe you guys didn’t realize when you had your run two years ago yeah um you know with his presence in the lock room um obviously on the court uh he just brings a different Dynamic I’ve said it all season we’re so lucky to have him on our team uh Drew literally does any and everything that we ask and that we need need um and more than that he’s capable right he can hit big shots obviously get a big stop um guard the five men if we need him to uh so you know we’re very very lucky to have him Gary over here on the left Jason Gary wash from Boston Globe uh you’ve probably been the most scrutinized player during this postseason think so yeah I think so um to the how much you smiled or didn’t smile when Jaylen won the MVP and things like that how has it motivated you for this moment have have you do you turn off social media when your son says something or your your friends like your mother what how have you dealt with the scrutiny and how is this kind of built you for this moment that you’re about to face now uh I think more so than me right it’s like my mom my grandma uh my family and friends you know they’re more bothered by it than me and you know I understand like if Deuce was to make it to the NBA and people were talking about him every single day as a parent um I wouldn’t be able to separate the Superstar from the child uh so you know my mom was took it a little tougher than than maybe I did uh but for me uh I don’t I don’t take it personal right just a long break without NBA basketball so they had to overanalyze every little thing and have something to talk about uh did it get old yeah but uh you know it’s the finals um they wouldn’t talk about me if I wasn’t good so uh you know try to take some positives out of it and uh change the channel Tanya back right uh Tanya ganguli New York Times um you were talking talking a bit ago about sort of the legacy of this franchise and the weight that puts on you um not you personally but you know the weight that puts on any Celtics team um I’m curious though for you personally is it helpful for you to think about the the you know the big expectations of the franchise is that motivating or do you prefer as you’re going through the playoffs to keep that out of your mind and and think a little more narrowly about what’s in front of you yeah uh and honestly it’s like I I don’t think about the future or what this may mean for me down the road uh just as simple as it sounds just trying to stay present stay in the moment enjoy it right um keep talking about pressure pressure pressure it’s NBA Finals like this is supposed to be fun uh and that’s kind of where I’m at with is like I’m I’m I’m in the NBA Finals I have a second opportunity to to win a championship uh and I want to enjoy it I want to enjoy the moment enjoy it with my teammates and my family uh so you know that’s that’s where my narrow focus is at is about competing at a high level um finally getting to play tomorrow and uh just having fun just going out there and doing what I love to do Jabar back left what’s up bro oh um um you know I feel like um well first of all Jabari Smith NBA correspondent um I feel like this league is is a lot of expectation you know what I’m saying I’m going to try to shift it a little bit um what would you say to somebody going into their third year who um hasn’t really lived up to the expectation that has been set on him what would you say to somebody going into that I would say that uh somebody that you know has has been through that right how old are you 21 21 uh I’ve I’ve been in that situation everybody else in the world that’s your age that’s 21 is still probably in school trying to figure out what they want to do in life um and we come into the league at such a young age and they want us to be uh perfect right away and this is part of growing up you still growing up I’m still growing up uh and it’s a process right nothing was was accomplished overnight and I think um you’ll find a value in tough times um the ups and downs uh just what life brings you damn I sound like a real old person right now uh just in the sense of like your career um I would just say man enjoy it right it’s it’s going to be some great times there going to be some times that aren’t so great uh and that’s and it it’s okay to be upset uh cuz that means means you care right you want to be great um and people believe that you can they just try to rush the process um and it takes however long it takes but you know as long as you work hard you believe um and you got the right support system obviously you do down in Houston I know all those guys coaches uh you know and everything will take care of itself how it’s supposed to for sure appreciate you good luck to you too thank you last one in the back in the middle hey Jason draft from Spain um a lot of NBA legends lost his first Finals and then came back and they won what’s the biggest lesson that you learned from the first NBA Finals that you played biggest lesson um you I give a lot of credit to that team they like the warriors uh I think you know we we understood what it took to get there and you know they understood what it took to get over to hump uh that was a really special team that um didn’t make many mistakes obviously well coached and they just been there before and and in some of those tough moments when I go back and look um you can tell that you know they they had been there before um and it was a lesson to be learned and I you know told myself that forever got the opportunity again to make it to the finals that uh you know never take it for granted and uh you know obviously you know we’re here now and thankful to be here and uh I mean I’m excited to to get ready to play and uh have fun tomorrow thank you Jaylen Brown I’ll be in shortly

BOSTON — Jayson Tatum speaks on criticism he’s received from the media throughout this playoff run, and how it’s prepared him for the moment. “For me, I don’t take it personal. It’s a long break without NBA basketball, so they had to overanalyze every little thing…Did it get old? Yeah. But it’s the finals. They wouldn’t talk about me if I wasn’t good.”

  1. Someone tell him to shut these idiots up. Please. I'm so sick of hearing nothing but lies about him.

  2. The problem is Kobe emulated Jordan and had his killer mentality, Tatum tries emulating Kobe but doesn’t have the killer instinct. You see Brunson, Butler, Curry, Ant-man and a few more guys in the league that rise up when facing competition Tatum disappears or goes and stands in a corner.

  3. If JT don’t play well in these finals an JB does … I’m giving JB team captain

    JT slacking when it matters

  4. Danny Ainge was a genius in acquiring this amazing talent. I watched him mature myself. They gave the #1 pick for him I was like: "That's crazy" . But I'm not saying it now!! Good luck Boyz Gooooooooo CELTICS!!!!

  5. I like the attitude and the chill way he's approached the finals again. He somehow exudes confidence in a abstract way. I believe he gets the challenge deep down and the importance of the moment. He won't fail for lack of preparation. It's the Brown Tatum narrative that blurs the real Tatum who is doing quite well for himself. His mindset is fascinating and I believe the winning one.

  6. Man idk why he gets so much hate. To me I want him JB and the rest of the C’s to get a chip because they have been good and growing every year since they started

  7. JT just casually flexing the delts and arms while giving calm measured responses is gold😂😂😂😂. Get ‘em big deuce💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾😤😤😤☘️☘️☘️

  8. Everyone wants to talk about him becuase he plays for BOSTON.. we are historically HATED by every other fan base because all we do is WIN… KEEP the HATE coming this is what makes us Great. BOSTON in 5!!!!

  9. It's interesting that when asked about his teammate winning ECF MVP, Tatum never said Brown deserved it. Not one compliment to a teammate that played tough defense, rebounded, was more consistent and averaged 30. It tells us something about Tatum. If the Celtics win it all, it could be partially attributed to them winning despite Tatum instead of because of Tatum.

  10. My issue with Tatum is he will say ALL the right things in this press conference to get all of us Celtics fans hyped up!… Then proceed to go out Game 1 and start 2-9 from the field and 1-5 on 3pt shots….looking disengaged until midway thru 3rd qtr… lol BOOK IT 🤦🏿‍♂️ PS. I HOPE I'm wrong but……😮‍💨

  11. Dear humble JT, ignore on-going popularity contest, winning the championship is the only goal for yourself, for the team, and for the fans in the state and overseas!

  12. The only reason this guy gets any hate is because hes a celtic. If he was on any other team, the discourse around him way different. Like what is there to actually hate on about tatum?
