the noon hour is here check it out and you’re locked on to Utah’s highest rated most listened to sports radio station it’s my station it’s my station this is H sson and Scotty G on 975 the KSL Sports Zone [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] bottom line is Lloyd I’m not going to let you ruin my good mood and this beautiful day that’s the bottom line it is too gorgeous I am at one of my favorite events of of the entire calendar year I am in a great mood I’m about to scarf down some great free pizza and you can’t ruin my mood buddy it doesn’t matter if you’re taking me down memory lane of all the terrible moments that you provided me in an aspect of of on air it you can’t ruin my mood hey give me a minute H Olsen Lloyd Cole and the one and only Jake Scott sitting in for Scotty G Scotty G’s taking care of some business today and so Jake Scott’s kind enough to sit in and hang out with me Jake Lloyd and I were just going over some of our favorite on air moments I’m sure that you’ve had a lot of Great Moments with Lloyd on air with Lloyd no no no Great Moments none all bad all bad at least all bad for me been bad yet here I am still have you have you heard the clip where the pro bowler thing that was all look oh yeah oh yeah miserable I’ve I’ve heard that Hey Jake did you originally hire Lloyd Cole to the original 128 to be to be the producer of the H and John the John and Hance show uh I did that but I actually hired Lloyd as an intern before then believe it or not okay so you brought him on as an intern and then you promoted him to a producer uh I think there was another step or two in there but yeah pretty much that’s the G of it has he given you credit and shown you gratitude look he’s blossomed into the world famous Lloyd Cole all joke uh all jokes aside yeah 100% okay good no Lloyd ly and I are we’re on the level I to be honest with you had I not ran into him I might not who knows what I’d be doing I might be dead in a ditch certainly robbing liquor stores or something yeah right but no well of one day I one evening I ran into to Jake Scott my former Sears associate yeah oh no your former Inn alley uh partner in crime that that’s how I don’t don’t go there oh okay how does he even know that story it’s public records th those types of criminal acts are public records Jake so you can just get on there and you can find it hey there have been many times that I’ve wanted to hurt Lloyd Cole but I it was actually the time I wanted to hurt Lloyd the most was before he was even employed at 128 of the Zone I was sitting there with a recorder and Carlos Boozer had come out for some ridiculous reason and I already didn’t want to deal with Carlos Boozer I I hated having to be down in that tunnel and wait for Carlos booer there were guys like Paul Milsap guys that I love talking to Carlos Boozer hated him hated waiting for him hated his quotes hated his personality hated everything about the way the guy was on air and so but but still the listeners want to hear from Carlos Boozer so we as on air personalities we bring what the listeners want so I’m standing there with my mic Carlos Boozer walks out he’s talking to the media he’s kind of getting done and he’s kind of walking away say hey Carlos I got one more question for you and I can’t remember Lloyd what did he say to me he’s like I I got to go man and I’m like okay whatever and Lloyd Co standing right there as I think an intern or doing something and he says you got served you got served oh I remember that now yeah loud enough for Boozer to hear it loud enough for me to hear and I looked I looked at him and he had those shaded glasses on the ones that shade when you’re when you got a little bit of light never had those what you talking about yeah the ones that flip up you can actually flip the Shaded part up on the glass and he flips the Shaded part up on the glass like he’s in that Schlitz commercial off Saturday Night Live and he goes oh you got you got served dude I I about lost it and Boozer kind of chuckled and I’m like okay yeah Lloyd got me Boozer thinks it’s funny and I just want to I want to hurt everybody in this building and that was our jumping off point wow and here we are your dislike of Carlos Boozer is a little strong 16 years now of Lloyd Cole and I fighting back and forth on on a oh l fights than than anything we don’t fight that much uh let me ask you this Jake did you enjoy your time sitting down with Carlos Boozer uh he was all right yeah uh he his thing was he Ben and I were talking about Darren Williams playing or not Darren Williams uh Donovan Mitchell playing the game knowing what to say like kind of having that kind of Charisma booze tried to be that but failed you know what I mean he always came off as as disingenuous but as far as like I don’t know my personal interactions or those sorts of things he was all right I he was fine Darren Williams aggravated me more than Boozer because he’s the one who made you wait forever and did it on purpose but but at least Darren was real like when he hated a mother beeper he would say I hate that mother beeper oh well that was one of the funniest moments ever speaking of uh of funny press conference moments carer would just sit there and chew on cheese and you’re like I read right through you man yeah you I could see his skin physically it was crawling because he’s having to sit there and waste his time with anybody and you’re like hey bud I’m not here because I’m interested in you I’m here to deliver the message to the people that pay thousands of dollars to watch you play a game so let’s let’s get into the nuts and bolts of this yo man I got to go all right well fine You Got Served that was it’s the served moment isn’t it that’s where it was where it was all born how many uh how many uh media members did you treat poorly when you were a uh zero I did rough up a couple I remember grabbed Dan a green a bear hugged him once but I did it all out of love like I I loved the media I I loved it cuz I love jumping on air I love getting my face on TV I always thought that you know my wife thought I was a little sexier when she’d see me on TV I walk home and say hey did you see my interview yeah it’s pretty cool huh like I I tried to be cool to the media members but but now you won’t even call yourself one oh oh no I’m I am a full-blown media member oh may you won’t even stand with us at practices and stuff I whoa hang on hang on Lloyd back away from the mic hang on Jake I stand where I’ve got to see practices that’s all that I stand I stand where I get the angles to take in the sights and the sounds that that’s all I do you could just stand places nobody else can because I’m just GNA say this Lloyd and Scotty left me high and dry at the BYU Nebraska G that is not true they left me high and dry in the media booth and then they sit there and blame me like oh you couldn’t hang out with us during the BYU Nebraska game they left me high and dry I was looking for them and I couldn’t find them and Lloyd you know that’s true I remember when you feel good about that I remember when Jeff Reynolds made you stand with the media uh at BYU and you just hated it so much uh yeah that well those are scene with these jabronies those early days were some of those early days were rough Jake oh you me when when you stood in front of the Cougar Club and talked about how they were going to lose to TC the the transition in early days wasn’t as easy as some might think you actually really go through like a like oh jeez I is this what I’m becoming okay maybe this is what I’m becoming uh oh and that was a moment of truth that was a Moment of Truth my favorite hands offir moment might have been when we were doing the John Watson Chevrolet high school players of the week and you came up to be the the special guest at the awards ceremony and you told them all not to play football I I did do that told them to find a different angle in life I said make sure you’re getting your academics because well because I don’t know if it was concussion but I had burst in an eardrum and I was extremely dizzy and I think I think that was like on a Monday and I had played that Saturday I I IID played in a game that Saturday and I was having equilibrium issues and I was really worn out and mad and and I think it was in my seventh year professional football I was like yeah I’m like I felt like I’d been run through the ringer and I was like Hey kids don’t do this this isn’t worth it let let me be a cautionary tale to you I am a chunk of beef a piece of meat nobody cares about me find something that makes you stand up oh man that’s so funny anyways Jake it is a beautiful day down here at the Mountainland Supply fan appreciation day this is our 10th event with Mountainland Supply Company down here at The Fan Appreciation Day they’ve run 11 of them I was just talking with Tim White my very dear friend down here with Mount L Supply and he said this our tth this our tth together so if you’re out there driving around the orm area we are at the orm Mountainland Supply come on down they’re feeding you free pizza they’ve got every vendor they got Rainbird and they’ve got every every type of uh cordless power tool they’ve got so many different great vendors that are stacked around us you come down and take a look at all their different vending and grab some free pizza and hang out and see why Mountainland Supply is the absolute best but this fan appreciation day is so much fun and they put so much into it and I always love being a part of this so it’s a beautiful day too man finally get some sun out temperatures are coming up a little bit I might peel off the shirt get a tan while we’re doing the show I don’t know yet don’t know where we’re at don’t know how good I’m feeling at this point don’t know if Sean will you have your uh your your tan on you have I’m I’m GNA I I think I’m gonna peel off the shirt are we lucky that there’s not a hot tub like another one of my favorite on air moments ever man I don’t know why I invite you to do a segment I I don’t know why I invite you to do a segment every time you come on the bubble and T of love was a mistake from from square one that was that was a bad idea I remember saying that too like I don’t think this is a good idea and we did especially when my especially when my aunt and uncle showed up that was that was interesting that was really interesting why why are you Orange from the nipples up and why are you sitting in a tub with five strange random women it’s like oh jeez the things we did for money back in the day like when you did uh beer commercials ah that was that was a tough one too but uh let’s jump into this Jake it is the starter this is hands Scotty Che let’s go the lineup is set and it’s time to kick off the show with the biggest topic of the day this is the starting lineup on 975 the KSL Sports Z well it is the eve of kicking off the NBA final series of course the Boston Celtics are taking on the Dallas Mavericks and I know we’ve stopped through a lot of the talent and we’ve stopped through the coaches and we’ve gone through a lot because we’ve had a lot of time to go through it since those series The Western and Eastern Conference Finals ended early we’ve had a lot of time to talk about it and go through the numbers but Jake I haven’t had a chance to really talk to you about it how you feeling about this final series how did you feel about the two teams that are showing up in it uh I’ve not I’ve never really been big on Dallas um I’ve been wrong about them already a couple times this postseason so you know who knows but I I think Boston’s the better team so I think Boston uh I think Boston WI as long as they they’re coach and they don’t kind of get in their own way I think they play better on both sides of the ball so I I’m kind of feeling the Celtics are you you riding the Mavs I’m I’m riding the Mavs I’m I’m riding angry Luca um I you know I I look at this and and maybe you disagree with this but I think that Dallas has two of the the the top three talents in this I I think it’s Luca Don then you go Jason Tatum and then you go Kyrie Irving and then you go Jaylen Brown and then I look at Boston I think they do have a deeper roster especially if porzingis is going but it just feel like it feels like Angry Luca is the team of Destiny right now it’s like when you’re watching a that crazy run that Dirk nitzky went on with the Dallas Mavericks and took out a lot of great teams and went through some really good series in order to get there and get that big ring and that Championship I just feel like Luc is on that path but I don’t disagree with you that it feels like Boston has the deeper and more extreme roster I just feel like Dallas has two of the top three talent that are going to make this thing very interesting see I don’t know if I agree I’d take Brown and Tatum probably uh first and second because they play Both Sides they Luca doesn’t guard I I’ll give Kyrie Irving credit he stepped up and and played good uh good excuse me well pardon my grammar well defensively throughout these playoffs you got to give him a ton of credit and he’s kind of bought in and played his role which I think makes Dallas a lot better and they made an incredible deal at the the trade deadline they got tougher they got bigger um so you know I shouldn’t underestimate Dallas but I love Tatum and brown because they play both ways did you see uh Jaylen Brown’s comments after he had 40 I can’t even remember which game it was uh against the Pacers but he came out and he talked about how mad he was that he wasn’t all NBA Defensive because that was his goal and uh I just like that stuff you know if you if you can send Jaylen Brown at Luca to play him one-on-one and and you know to your point nobody’s probably stopping Luca but if you can eliminate what he does with only one player I mean that’s a huge Advantage so I like Boston so you you feel like Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown are the are the two best talent in this series if you’re talking about complete NBA players 100% okay but let’s just talk about superstars that are kind of on the the track and Destiny for a championship don’t don’t you feel like that’s Luca donit no no I don’t like the way Luka plays though it’s it’s um he manufactures a lot of stats he has the ball the whole game he you know he makes he he’s James Harden they’re the same player and I never liked watching James Harden play and I don’t necessarily like watching Luca play and I get frustrated with the modern NBA player that just thinks you don’t have to play defense because you’re so good at offense I mean it I think if you Hance well I don’t know if there’s a football not a comparison but but what if they you know you got a D lineman all he wants to do is uh is pass rush you know that’s it just put me in on put me bad position like you know what I mean and all of a sudden he’s stacking up a bunch of sacks cuz he’s only in the game on Third and long and just is kind of the one sucking up all the glory where you’ve been grinding it out you know on the interior of the line the whole game and nobody knows your name you know what I mean like so so do you feel like his numbers are Hollow like Russell Westbrook’s numbers are Hollow because this is a triple double guy let’s we’re talking about a guy that’s averaging essentially 3410 and 10 we’re talking about a guy that is single-handedly dismantled a team that beat last year’s NBA champion dimmer nuggets and they found a way to I don’t I’d be careful with it but to figure out Nicole yic and and what Denver was doing at least to a point that they could advance and Dallas disassembled them and Luca disassembled them and they brought a lot of defensive power well at least that that that’s the Optics of it and I look at I look at Boston I’m like okay they bring some defensive power especially well not that porzingis is is the the defender that everybody needs and wants but if they’re a full roster I I see that they’re they’re very good I wonder in a a seven game series the Timberwolves at full strength versus the Boston Celtics at full strength I think that that would be a really good series but I just feel like Dallas I feel like Luca Don’s number I feel like they’ve got more substance his numbers have more substance than Westbrook does right now uh did no it’s very similar two players that drible the ball the whole game are bound to rack up stats um the thing with uh I just uh let me let me put it this way I buy into the team concept way more I think golden state was the last great Dynasty because of the way they played and they specifically didn’t play the way that Luca plays so you know maybe I’m wrong but I thought Minnesota honestly beat themselves as much as Dallas beat them Minnesota forgot you talk about them beating Denver they played totally different than they played against the Nuggets like they forgot how they beat the Nuggets and it I I don’t know I I didn’t think Minnesota had a very good game plan uh against Dallas so I think Boston I don’t believe in their coach so we’ll see what kind of game plan they bring to the table but I like teams that play like a team that move the ball that don’t have one player dominate the whole time like Boston has Drew holiday that pulls the strings and Tatum and brown are both off the ball and they both can beat you depending on what the other team you know decides to do so I like that more and they’ll go and they’ll guard I mean you’re going to see Jaylen Brown on Luca the whole series I would bet and you’re going to see Jason Tatum and holiday take turns on Kyrie Irving I mean that’s going to make that’s going to make life really difficult for those two particular players well do you think Jaylen Brown has defensively do you think Jaylen Brown because what what I watched Luca do against Minnesota was pull Minnesota in directions and then he made really good decisions based off of what they were presenting I if if Rudy goar didn’t close out if he closed short he’d hit him with the teardrop if Rudy bear goar did close he would find the dish it it was like he just systematically dismantled what Minnesota was doing defensively in in every game in that five game series or four game five game series because Minnesota didn’t try to guard him straight up which is what leads to all that stuff and I think Boston will try and guard him straight up now whether they succeed or not who we’ll see right I mean that’s what the pick and roll is all about I mean how do they elect to defend that and that sort of thing but if you can I mean it what was great about um well you could say the thing say Kobe you could say the same thing about Michael you could say the same thing about LeBron and his Heyday not anymore but at in the fourth quarter you could say hey Jordan go take the other team out you know go take the other best player out of the game and he could do it yeah and Anthony Edwards did it against Jamal Murray but he did not do it against Dallas well it’s it’s incredible I was looking at uh some of LCA donic numbers through that Timberwolves series and he shot in that series he shot 43 a half% from three and he did it on 10 and a half attempts and I was thinking you know if if he comes into this series against Boston if he puts up those kinds of numbers making the right shots the right decisions the right dishes and he’s hitting around 40 43% and then you throw in what Kyrie Irving can do on isolation and a ham and egg it because it felt like in that Timberwolves series they Hamond egged a lot one would give you a quarter the other one give you a quarter one would give you half the other one would give you half and it and it provided a complete game if they can do that I feel pretty confident that Luca donic and the Dallas Mavericks end up with a championship it’s I think it’s going to be really difficult for Boston to control and it’s it’s something about Luca’s size so fine take Jaylen Brown Fine run face guard run press push push as much and as hard as you can Jaylen Brown is going to find himself wore out taken out of the offensive side because anybody that tries to Trail a 6’9 or 6’8 230 235 PB um guard is it just wears him out and so you you wear him down I think that you’re going to be have problems but I don’t know the porzingis thing is interesting to first of all do you believe porzingis is going to play in game one and play throughout this series yeah probably I mean he’s been off for a month he should be ready I think the the reports where he could have been ready by the Eastern Conference Finals but they didn’t really need him so I think he’ll play but I I don’t think that’s what this series hinges on Ben Anderson does I mean Ben thinks that porzingis is kind of the the key factor here I think it’s all brown and Tatum and uh how they do on both sides well it’s going to be an exciting one we’re live at the Mountainland Supply this is their FanFest their fan appreciation day and this is our 10th year and I got my good buddy Brandon here sitting next to me 10 years of doing this now Brandon yeah pretty crazy isn’t it I mean let’s talk about this event first of all it’s 11 years old yeah this is just the 10th year that I’ve been broadcasting from it just go back and talk to me about the origins of this event like when you guys were were putting these things together what what were you thinking you wanted and can you believe what this has turned into you know one of the things that we we always kind of shoot for us to take care of our customers and show our appreciate our appreciation for them and you know so we tried to do a little events and we’ve always that’s been ingrained in who we are in our culture and to be able to give back to our customers and show them and so you know when we started doing this it was kind of a little smaller shindig that we kind of put together to just hey come out and let’s let’s have some hot dogs let’s have some hamburgers stuff like that now it’s grown into this where you know I think last year we had a few thousand people come here and this year we’re expecting the same and so we keep uh upgrading we got our vendors that are all involved with this we got our customers coming out we got great food we got a climbing wall we got monster trucks I mean it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger I I keep thinking I’m like are we going to be able to keep doing this here we might need to find a bigger spot to be able to move this into which is crazy because you got this huge lot right behind the orm location and you’d think you got plenty of room but Tim White had me on I-15 like I just pull off over the shoulder I15 and we got a shuttle for you we’ll shuttle you on over I’m Sur he made me hitchhike so you’re lucky you got the shuttle you had to use the thumb to get in here huh show a little leg too yeah just just to make sure that you were able to get in on time exactly I want everybody to come down it’s the Orum location Mountainland Supply and you’re feeding them Pizza yeah Pizza second year fresh out of the oven pizza oh man this pizza it’s phenomenal really good pizza and it’s furry yeah and we’re sitting here and you can get the whip of it like the smell coming over oh my gosh I mean oh it’s killing me I don’t know if you guys do that on purpose you know I can’t even do the show because I sit here and salvate and then I’ve got to get we’ll bring it to the neighborhood how about that we need to do that we need to bring it to the neighborhood I don’t know if Eagle Mountain’s ready for it man I don’t know if they can handle I think you and I are though yeah that’s that’s enough enough we’ll get the block party started you know there’s enough kids there that will come out oh they’ll come they’ll come mow down for sure Mountainland Supply if you don’t know what Mountainland Supply is anything that has Water Runs Through It gasket repair kit they gave me the gasket repair kit it had a little manual I had to unscrew a bunch of things pulled out filters and gaskets and replaced it threw it in and we’re of and working Weezer Idaho my family’ throw me in a car we’d head up to Cash Valley we’d go down to Logan Main Street and we’d watch the cruise in and if you haven’t been a part of the cruise in in Logan it’s just one of the coolest things that you’ll ever experience now back when I was little and I know a lot of people always say that they used to allow cars out there that had Flames that would throw out of the back tail pipes and and they’d put on these big fat racing tires and they’d come down Main Street and they’d throw the flames and they’d squeal the tires and then everybody would head up to the fairgrounds there in Logan and the Cru in is one of the coolest things that you’ll ever see and I want you to experience three days of one of Utah’s most spectacular car shows and that is the Cash Valley Cruise in that goes from July 4th to July 6th it’s at the Cash Valley fairg grounds there in Logan and for any information that you want go to C VCA Cru in.com Jake have you ever gone to the Cruisin I have not no oh man you know what it’s a it’s a perfect Fourth of July event grab Nas grab the girls and head to Cash Valley let the it’s they do all the classic cars like you know everything that you could imagine and then they’ve got some concept cars and it is always an event great food you hang out down on Main Street late in the evening and it’s a lot of fun in there down there in Logan so or up there in Logan I guess I should say so get your family head out there July 4th to July 6 it’s an amazing time uh Jake did you happen to fill in the 60 and 60 ballot I did not no okay so you do you typically do a 60 and 60 Ballot or you typically don’t uh I I I did it come via email then I probably didn’t see it oh no well they’ve already been uh turned in they’re due obviously we’re announcing number 60 in this 60 and 60 today and uh I was going to throw a teaser but I’m not because I’m I’m gonna make this a big surprise to everybody I’m make it a big surprise to everybody you keep it vague okay I’m GNA give it a tease I have not got Kyle whittingham’s sound yet that’s the only tease I’m gonna give you oh so so we’re stressed about we’re stressed about putting this together is what you’re saying so what it is is it’s not Utah player that’s the that’s the only tease I’m going to give you okay not a Utah player but number 60 coming off the board today not cam Rising then it is not cam Rising it is not Lander Barton no okay number 60 is probably going to be a snapper do you remember the year that Lloyd who was was it Matt Wells I think made Scot I think that was actually probably the one year that Jake did vote I think that was the last year I voted I remember that Matt Wells made Scotty put a Long Snapper on and I’m not going to laugh too hard because I’ve been made to put players on that I didn’t agree with from coaches but that was a rough one uh yeah well was the punter on on that one that that AJ asked about uh that punter specifically I think he was do we have any any kicker SL punter this year no no special team this year MIT kowsky and the um I can’t remember some I don’t was John linan or was I think we may have had a couple of different punters on over the year the years but Lloyd I’m not mistaken right like there is no special teams on this is there no no there is no punters or kickers or yeah that sort what about puns I mean how how in punting how is there we just see the guy kick the ball what details go into punting in situational football I don’t even know where we were at we’re talking about pting let’s go on to something else you know what’s so funny Scotty’s ripping the headset off of a because Scotty’s about one and a half minutes late for the show and that’s how a opens up the coaches show by the way the funny part is is that was during the Jordan love Year too when they blown a team Away by like 40 and didn’t punt once that’s exactly it he he had like 500 yards and like six touchdowns and a opens it up what what about and they didn’t punch a single time game talk about puning it’s one of my favorite all time on air moment best oh it’s it’s not even my favorite AJ on air moment that’s just a great on air moment no the the I didn’t wear my jacket on a pro promotion and a young lady was down on the field and her hair was whipping around a little good a little bit you wonder if the wind is starting to kick in a little bit a if you’re down on the field we have much of a wind at all down there on the field yeah uh actually it’s kind of getting cold over here I’m kind of glad I L long sleeve on this field nobody cares about that a we want to know about the wind okay well wind’s blowing East uh and yeah there is a definitely a wind all right thank you for that all right a down on the side 246 left to go here in the second hey I don’t want AJ to get cold down there Scott maybe we can have him do some wind Sprints or something to warm him up 40 yard dash yes that 5 S speed a see that yeah that onof button let’s turn that off shall we I’m so glad I brought my long sleeve I think Scotty was in a bad mood in in that moment because that you remember we were having issues with that that field mic it was we was just he wanted to test it once but throws to a what about the wind I it’s a little chilly my long sleeve oh poor a just about the wind I I’m still going positional or or uh what was it situational punting situational punting who’s who’s your uh your sideline guy with Greg uh Mitch Jurgens yeah yeah I’m sure you don’t throw it down to M glad I wor my w sleeve a little chilly back to you guys hav had it nope had not had that not not yet for sure oh that’s so funny all right I don’t know how we got distracted there is AJ on the list no a is not on the list but and there are no punters on the list but I wanted to get your thoughts man give me give me some of your your top maybe top 10 top 15 talent that you expect to be there final days I probably you know what this top 60 thing it is such a frustrating exercise and I should vote I should have voted I feel bad that I did not but I really you should I I should because it’s a station thing and I love your guys’ show and I should be on board I I apologize for not being but I always hated it it’s so it’s impossible to rank 60 players are you kidding and it’s all it is so subjective and I remember I’m trying to remember who I voted for once at number one and they turned out to just be oh it was uh Utah’s running back a couple years ago what’s his name who um had the great year and then just had issues and basically got thrown off the team the next year who am I thinking of talking about you Quin no no no before him the one that went to Colorado and then Kyle Whittingham got him back Joe Williams no the one that came from Cincinnati who slept in his car who like lived in his car and then he came out to Utah and then blew up right remember had like an allconference season and then had some issues the next year and he put him number one yeah the year going into the next year and then he was just terrible not I know who you’re talking about that it was like two years ago I know it could have been the last time you voted that was was I I was thinking back to the ballot where you had Marcus Williams at number7 not me that was not oh sorry not uh that was controversial I know who it was but it was certainly not me uh the person who did it knows exactly it was and it and it was one of the one of the more difficult moments that’s when Scotty and I had to start throwing out outliers so it what we do is we take the the top and then we take the T on Thomas by the way is who I’m we take the lowest and we throw those out because of of what happened with Marcus Williams uh quite a few years ago it is it’s a tough science there’s no question about it it’s a tough science but what I found over the years is the top 10 are are typically fairly accurate is is number one Rising hands down I mean is there even another candidate I you know there’s guys that maybe you could maybe you could argue but I I just don’t think so but then how do you rank BYU’s quarterbacks like what that situation that is is a disaster how many of those guys even made the list zero none of them not even hillstead nope nope that and by the way Jake that was a long drawn out conversation we we talked to Mitch Harper we talked to Jake CCH uh Scotty Lloyd and myself we sat there we talked about it I’m not going to mention if we talk to any coaches about it but it came down to well you either got to put all three or none and the the right choice in this situation was none but the problem is if one of them blows up and ends up having an amazing year then we got to talk about it but I just don’t see any one of those quarterbacks being a 2800 yard passer I don’t see any one of those three being a uh you know a a 20 plus touchdown guy I see them just being a facilitator and then we can talk about LJ Martin and we could talk about Connor pay and way and Lao and the guys that are on the list but yeah Jake that was actually a tough one to not put one of the BYU quarterbacks on there so who would be the candidates for the number one pick then you mentioned Barton and Rising who else would you have in there well I’d have Jacob Robinson up there in conversations I think he’s going to be uh one of the better defenders in the state um and I’ve been a big fan of his you know I I kind of underprojected a little bit what he would be and he’s every year surprised me more and more and more but I think he could be a conversation up there I know a lot of Voters even though Brent keithy hasn’t been on the field for what feels like five years I know a lot of Voters have a lot of confidence in what he is eventually is going to be um I know that there is a lot of talk about uh Kinny Reid um and and how great that guy has played but I think cam Rising is is probably your go-to guy for the number one player I think so yeah it seems that way whether he deserves it or not the quarterback always get see that’s the thing the position ranking of it right I mean we we give quarterbacks so much uh credit and uh they’re the ones that drive the whole thing you know like is is Cam Rising the best quote unquote football player but I don’t know but he’s hands down the number one because of the position he plays right wow that plays yeah plays the most important role in the whole thing for sure yeah right I mean they may uh the best punter in college football may play for one of those teams and you’re still not going to want to put them on the list yeah no it’s the that always makes it a tough conversation and I yeah but I will tell you that outside of special teams what’s the least important position on the football field oh man that’s a the least important position on a football field well you know what’s what’s tough is there are position groups that rely on other position groups to have success you know the quarterback relies on the offensive line and receiver the quarterback relies on the most guys to have success a defensive end can just make success on his own offensive lineman relies all of his success is relies on him yeah but does the center really do anything Center does a lot uh I would say across the offensive line your your guards are you probably least important uh maybe you could go right tackle on a front side quarterback as your least important but I’d say the the centers up there D if I had to choose I’d say face sight guard on an offensive line all right okay is is is probably a guy that you can make a conversation for GU just lucky to be there the least important I just I just always think it’s fascinating you know when you look at the concepts of offense and defense how 10 guys can fail at their job defensively and you have one guy who does his job and you end up with a tfl offensively you have one guy fail and the old thing falls apart and so I I don’t know that’s a tough question yeah I you talk about Kyle vano at BYU the rest of that defense probably stunk he was just a oneman wrecking crew he actually was he did it all remember that bow game yeah he was a oneman reing crew uh you know I look at the offensive line we’ve got a lot of offensive linemen on the list this year of course you do and I’ve got no don’t of course we do you know they’re important where is they’re important you can’t find it you lost you lost the elevator music is gone you lost that yeah apparently I haven’t used it in a little bit but apparently it went it didn’t make the the the move over here over under offensive lineman from each team on the 60 and 60 list eight um what are each total offensive Lin yeah that that’s 24 offensive linemen from each team yeah eight from each Jake come on it’s just slightly I think we’re at seven per team think we came in at 28 I’m just counting funny we got 28 offensive lineman here on the 60 and 60 uh the other guys I was looking at I would put Ike Larsson pretty high I I’ve got Ike Larson up there in the top five um oh your timing is so funny H I love this show you’re so funny oh dude uh who else who else would you put up there Jake in your top five I don’t know that’s why I’m banded BR that’s why I hate this uh this whole exercise I think you’re you’re right on the money are we missing any agies just I I mean I’m putting Ike Larson I’m putting Jaylen Royals probably number two or number three he’s kind of the one I had was thinking about was Royals right I mean he was aming so when when we got done with this 60 and 60 list Jake the one thing that really stood out to all three of us the talent is down for BYU and Utah state that doesn’t mean that they’re not going to have a great season and that doesn’t mean that they didn’t find talent in the portal I actually think that there is some talent that has not been largely talked about especially for BYU that I know about that is going to surface and they’re going to be great but I think in the like in the in the terms of 60 and 60 where you’re trying to put up talent that you know about it just it was a down year but like I look at a guy like uh son tuala a defensive end that BYU signed that is a Joo talent and not a lot of people know about him I actually think by the middle of the Season he’ll be starting and he’ll probably be your your sack leader like they that’s the type of talent he is but that’s what we’ve got in the portal that’s the other thing that makes the 60 and 60 so tough Jake is the portal has made it really difficult oh yeah it’s impossible to predict this stuff I totally agree it’s a it’s a difficult uh exercise to vote no doubt well number 60 coming off the list today at 1:30 stay tuned for that we are live at the Mountainland Supply Fan Appreciation Day having a blast we’ll take a quick break we’ll come back to what your man missed and uh we’ll get you going Jake thank you for second he’ll be live from Boston TD Garden kicking off game number one coming up tomorrow of the NBA Finals just I’m so sick of the wait I always hate that I hate to wait for the Super Bowl I hate to wait for the NCAA Championship game I I hate that there’s always a delay and then you start to fall asleep on it and then it hits you and then you’re like oh my gosh well it’s it’s on us finally well we finally get to the championship game and I I can’t I cannot wait to get this series kicked off something that uh you may have missed is the Utah Jazz Jersey Rel releas and yay it’s fun and exciting uh Lloyd how do you feel about the new jerseys that have been released you know what I am a fan I actually I like the especially the uh the black one uh version that uh that I think Hendrick was wearing in that picture that they released I’m a big fan of it you say would you say that Jersey is fun fun fun fun fun fun Jake would say it’s fun fun the Jersey release where you get everybody to spend more money on new colors and new designs what are you new to making money come on what are you talking we love the the Jersey release holy cow there’s mountains on it whoa and a jazz note my goodness I I don’t like Jersey releases I here’s the deal I don’t care if they play in a burlap sack all I want to do is cover a Western Conference Finals all I want to do is cover an NBA Finals where the Utah Jazz are playing and and I don’t care I don’t care if they do it without jerseys I don’t care if it’s shirts and skins I don’t care if they wear some type of nylon I don’t care just win that’s it but I I know Jazz fans love it I’m sorry I’m not poo pooing it I just it’s so disinteresting to me but I did need to mention it if you haven’t seen it they’ve got a couple of new Styles and new colors out the the black one that Lloyd’s talking about really is nice looking it’s got the Jazz note and you’re right fans love it fans love this stuff like it’s what it pumps them like you saw what happened with you know the the Jazz the the Jersey release of you know the the yellow highlighter one Jazz hate fans a lot of fans hated it yeah they came down hard yeah they came out hard so you it’s you know though it’s you know maybe not a big deal to some people it’s for the fans a lot of them they eat it up but but but wouldn’t you admit it’s just like the the thing that made the purple famous was that’s what the successful Jazz War that’s that’s what made the purple famous that’s why people are like oh the purple is back yay in the purple yeah when it first came out when that one first came out it was like yeah but but it was it was what people remembered uh they remembered success with that team they remembered the NBA Finals I can promise you right now Lloyd I promise you if they would have gone to a Western Conference Finals if they would have got to an NBA Finals wearing their highlighter yellow it would have been the the biggest and best and greatest invention in world’s history course they went to thebody those baby blue if I remember and I do not remember I do not remember the well I remember them but I wasn’t a fan of those I don’t know if jazzz fans were but I think they were in those baby blues they used to have with d will and Boozer I think they were in the Conference Finals with those 2006 2007 was the baby blue but the mountains are back uh I do like the black Jersey I think the allh probably looks the most clean but I just want him to draft right make a big move get us back into competition and let’s see if the Utah Jazz can be competitive in the west that that’s the most important thing to me we are live at the Mountainland FanFest and we’re hanging out with Joey the president of Mountainland and Joey this is my favorite event man I I just love this you guys get all the vendors out here and you make it a big day and a big deal for the fans it’s awesome man yeah we we do this every year here in Oram uh this is our second year in a row we’ve had aval Lo’s pizza here and it’s awesome uh Lou over there sling pies and he is a 100% character if you haven’t talked to him you got to come by and see him pizzas are good and they’re fresh they’re awesome yeah they’re all fresh cooked they talk about the New York water I mean every time I talk to Lou it’s but we got the New York water you don’t know about the New York water you know do they do they actually import the New York that’s exactly what they do so basically what they do like avalo they they they make the dough and they make the crust and they make it in Jersey and then they send them to us here in Utah okay okay so it’s the that’s why they’re able to do it really fast so like pre-made crust kind of cuz they’re pumping out like 100 pizzas every seven minutes every seven minutes and they are killer yeah oh they’re delicious and they’re free down here at mountland until 2:00 y are they going to be out here Serv until too yeah yeah so you still got an hour to come down it’s the Mountainland location in or and then you got the vendor tents set up hey just do this for me walk through maybe three or four of these vendor tents that you got up today yeah so uh we’ve got a bunch of vendors in here today one of the things we’d like to do is Showcase everything that we can do for you so we’ve got uh vendors for our showrooms for Plumbing showrooms we have vendors for our Turf irrigation I know Hans is a big fan of that uh we have vendors here for our geotextile and soil stabilization the biggest thing you’re going to see when you walk in here though is our mountland truck outfitters monster truck that’s here uh we partner with Rockwell on that and we have a row of trucks that we’ve outfitted so you can see what you can do uh or what we can do for you on your ride so we got a bunch of stuff going on here well the Truck Outfitters are sweet aren’t they oh it’s awesome it’s been a fun part of our business it’s been great and you got a climbing wall so if you’re feeling yeah like you want to get the X Games going and get a little extreme you throw a hitch on your belt and head up a wall I’m just going to tell you if you don’t have a slender is build and a long reach you might not make the time on that I’ve been looking at a little bit Jones and I don’t know maybe I do it maybe I won’t has Brandon climbed that wall yet not yet how about Timmy no no Timmy no Timmy he’s going to steer as far away from that wall as possible that’s called physical activity yeah I don’t know if you know that well yeah I do remember I came and spoke to the crew and had Tim hold some weight for that’s right I forgot about that yeah he he failed we failed on that one nobody came to his Aid he dropped the weights so whatever you do don’t drop the weights oh that was bad and Timmy dropped the weights that was bad uh love Mount L Supply anything that has water that runs through it Mountainland Supply they can outfit it they can fix it they got it for that’s right a 975 the KSL Sports up [Music] hey oh let’s go he oh let’s go I’m so excited for the professional fighters League coming right here to Salt Lake City is in my opinion it is the Premier fighting league and you are going to see the biggest and the best and it’s here on June 21st I will be out there front and center rubbing elbows with a good old friend of mine Shan the Realo seio conell who actually won the event going back years and years ago put a million dollars in his pocket winning the pfl tournament the pfl is awesome because they’ve got a season and then they run that season and the winners of that season get to participate in the tournament and the payout on the tournament is a million dollars it is an amazing event it’s here at the Huntsman Center coming up on June 21st come out hang with out with me and hang out with the rest of us here on the Zone because we’re all going to be out there enjoying the fights that’s the professional fighters league on June 21st at the Huntsman Center all right in order to help us get ready for this NBA Finals we’ve got to bring in the big guns the best in the business my favorite NBA mind analyst and voice the great the one and only Kurt healen Kurt how you doing thank you for that intro man I’m I’m you know I’m humble Scotty wasn’t here I thought I better I better really juice this thing up I want you to feel good when you leave this exit when you leave this interview and Scotty was good after talking to you guys I appreciate it uh I want to start with this Kurt who’s had the tougher playoff path to get to this point oh definitely Dallas I mean Boston look they’ve beaten everybody in front of them and handily like I you but they just played I mean Cavs didn’t have Donovan Mitchell for the last couple games was without Jared Allen you know Alberton goes down they’ve just played bang up no Jimmy Butler like it’s just everybody they played it’s just not been it’s not been the roughest path where Dallas and I think just because of the nature of the West had had a they had to be sharper they had to be playing at a higher level just to get here and I’m curious hands what that means for game one like yeah I I that that’s exactly where I was going to go with this Kurt it was kind of a loaded question because I I definitely knew the answer and Boston didn’t go pass to game five Boston didn’t didn’t face a fully loaded team Boston swept the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and then I look over at Dallas and Dallas they W their whistle with the with the Clippers and then they got going with a six-game series against the OKC Thunder and the Thunder they were fully loaded and then they really flexed their muscles big against the Minnesota Timberwolves and in Minnesota they they had Rudy go bear they had Carl Anthony towns they they had Anthony Edwards and they took them out ly so that’s what I’m trying to get to here I don’t know what that means in game one but I know one is Battle tested and the other one has dodged a lot of teams and a lot of big names and a lot of bullets and I don’t think that they’re overly tested but I don’t know what that means for game one yeah I mean they can say they’re ready and look they are they’re going to get porzingis confirmed today not a surprise for anybody who’s following along but porzingis confirmed today he’s going to play that sounds great but there’s just something about you know what D Dallas had to go through I think that they were just forced to play in the clutch and there were some clutch games for Boston but again against a banged up Pacers team they just Dallas was forced to play at a higher level to get where they are and I think they come in just sharper and that could look that opens the door to them stealing game one there’s also just the the rust factor I mean d Boston’s been off it 10 days now 11 days just are they going to come out as sharp as they need to and if they’re if they’re not and and specifically for them if their three-point shot isn’t falling if their legs are just not quite under them and everything in game one Dallas can steal game one and then then it’s on then it’s on and and I got a feeling that they do because of angry LCA donic but I was talking with uh Jake Scott and Jake Scott is on for two hours before Scotty and I they go from 10 to noon and he’s actually pre-af and post analyst for the Utah Jazz and he goes with Tim lome and they do a great job and he’s a a real trusted NBA voice and mind and he was talking about LCA donic numbers being somewhat manufactured and whole and a and a little bit Hollow kind of like Russell Westbrooks and he’s not sure that that will present against the Boston Celtics do you feel like LCA donic numbers are like Russell Westbrook’s numbers inflated a bit manufact factured pressed at times but ultimately not worth a championship historically yes lately no like I If you wanted to make that argument about Luca in previous years especially the kind of pre Kyrie years then yeah yeah he does dominate the ball he can put up numbers you know some some empty calorie numbers at points but I don’t think that that’s been the way it is right now he is really just dissecting Minnesota I mean they they Minnesota kept throwing I mean Defender after Defender after Defender at him and he’d beat different guys different ways he put Rudy goar in frankly the same situation the Clippers did with Rudy when he was in Utah which is I’m gonna give you an impossible Choice man like you you can either Watch Me Hit these little floaters and mid-rangers and let me get to the rim or you can come out on me and I’m gonna throw a lob or somebody else will collaps down and I’m going to find Derrick Jones Jr in the corner and he’s hot like the way he’s carving teams up right now has been impressive what Boston brings to the table sort of Minnesota did but even maybe more so with Boston they’re just deep with good Defenders they’re just they’re four they’ve got four Elite defenders in brown Tatum porzingis when he’s as healthy as he’s going to be and um and holiday in white actually five I mean those are five quality Defenders to start the game there just there’s not some obvious hole to attack but can you take a Defender and really luk him up link him up on Luka donic I can you can you take a Jaylen Brown and say Jaylen Bulldog him face guard him go get him because I feel like that that that’ll waste one of your best talents it’ll take them off the offensive end and it and and and eventually 6768 Luca doners wears you down and makes you do dumb things and finds a way to beat you but I’m just wondering can you get a solo Defender to really lock down and do do good things against Luca and I think this becomes the the question I think you’re getting at the heart of how they’re going to defend this in the question I’ve got which is they’ve talked today about you know it takes a team excuse me it takes a team you’re going to have to do we’re gonna have to do all this stuff um and show multiple bodies to him and all this but that’s really not how they’ve operated uh both in the past and in general I mean yes there’s health and some scrambles and stuff but what they’ve been willing to do even if a pick comes and you know match him up like Derek white really good Defender not physically strong enough not big enough to slow Luca they can try to set up a pick to get a switch Boston’s largely been able to philosophy has largely to live with that and they like let’s just not let the other guys get going let’s not let Luca become a passer right let’s not let him get everyone going and if if that works if if it’s if Luca scores 40 but nobody else gets rolling that’s going to be good for Boston I just I think that’s easier said than done the level Luca is playing at right now walk me through the Kyrie Irving uh Drew holiday matchup how does that thing play out that’s GNA be fun um just because they Kyrie I mean U Drew is more success on Kyrie than most nobody nobody’s going to stop him with with his handles with his might be the best tough shot maker in the league just he makes ridiculous shots but holiday talked about it today he’s like hey what I’ve got is familiarity like we’ve been matched up a lot over the years in different settings and I kind of just try to keep him in front of me and and do my best and make it difficult for him and I think he’s kind of better at that than anybody um and they’re look if Ballas is GNA win this it can’t like I just said it can’t be the Luca show it’s got to be Kyrie getting some shots and frankly you know PJ Washington or Derrick J J some other guys getting involved too let’s talk a little bit about that just the the the auxiliaries the peripherals with Washington and and Jones and Gafford and and Lively and green and maybe even a little Dante exom when you’re talking about the periphery who who’s got the better support casting crew if you’ve got Tatum and brown and you’ve got donic and Irving who’s got the the better supporting cast and crew and I’m I’m saying that of course with PO porzingis on the court yeah I still think it’s Boston because I think I think Drew holiday is that good I mean he’s going to be representing the USA in Paris this summer in the Olympics for a reason because he is such a glue guy who can who can defend at a high level play make shoot do a little bit of everything um I think the guy who’s going to be key for Dallas is Derrick Lively I think this is going to be another series like the last one where gaffard starts the games but Lively gets more minutes and probably closes because he’s a little more athletic of a Defender and a little bouncier but also he’s better like if they start blitzing donic if they start say anybody but him We’re Not Gonna you know we’re gonna take the ball out of his hand he’s much better on that short role and like as a playmaker right like as a passer out of you know you throw him the ball when you get S the pick you get the ball back to him when he gets doubled Lively’s just better at setting guys up so I think you’re going to see a lot of him in the series and if Dallas is going to win this he’s going to have to have a big series you know I go through um kind of the the history of the finals MVPs and you know you got to go back to maybe an Andre IGA adala the last time you found a a support player that was able to take home the trophy otherwise you’re looking at you you’re looking at the best on the court you’re looking at a joic or anti tupo or a kawii Leonard or Kevin Durant or LeBron James or Dirk nitzki you’re looking at the best and I I just want to know Kur in your experience when you do get to the NBA finals how important is the periphery in all reality no it absolutely matters um because at this point the margins are really thin right these teams these two teams are going to be really close I still think it’s a six or seven game series um and with that man having having a game that Drew holiday win to or having a game that that uh PJ Washington win to can be the difference so it matters a lot it’s just look if Dallas is going to win this thing Luca has to be the best player of the series and and and by a by a bit um I don’t think it’s impossible though by the way that Jaylen Brown would be I mean again this is another star you know um but it’s easy to say Tatum but I’m like you could end up with the Steph Curry situation where the support players keep getting in the secondary players keep getting the award um because if everybody focuses on Luca somebody else has to step up who do you feel has the better coaching staff in this in this series it’s a good question because I I honestly I don’t exactly know Joe moula has been so much better this year better with adjustments much more comfortable better staff around him but first time on the stage uh Jason kid has been as a player and Coach um in moments big moments before so he’s been he’s been I I think missoula’s been like the better Coach during the regular season in terms of pushing buttons to a you know team won 64 games but kid been the best coach in the playoffs and so I I think that’s going to be something which team is quicker to adjust and making the right adjustments making you know not just throwing stuff against the wall but figuring out what really does work for them you know we talk about guys moving into different fields or something that maybe pertains to their profession and guys that fizzle out and don’t really achieve and then guys that continue to get better and continue to achieve and you I was thinking about like the early Jason kid times Kurt where he had to spill a drink because he’ used up his timeout so he spills a drink on the court in an in an effort to get himself a timeout like this guy has improved so much yeah no he has I mean he had some really rough those first couple of years I mean miluk and he really struggled like he and he struggled with the personality he struggled with a lot of things and by the way most superstars who become coaches do that right like Jer West was a horrible coach right like because they expect the other players be able to either see the game like they do or have their commitment I thought it was was hysterical the other day somebody there was people like which Laker would have made know Laker talk and they’re like what Laker would make the best Co but people said Kobe I’m like my god Kobe be a horrible coach it’s not that he doesn’t know the game but like he would have no patience for teaching these guys like you just he go nuts with his competitive nature um I I I think that kid has kind of overcome that and come to a really Zen place about how he coaches this team and and and they’ve responded speaking of which Kurt uh how’s JJ reick going to do with the showtime that’s going to be interesting isn’t it and by the way I keep hearing that like I know that they’re the Lakers are trying to say oh no we’re talking to bgo we’re slowing this thing down we’re not in a rush everything I’ve heard is that they are coming to a consensus and and trying to trying to make sure this is going to work and I find it don’t you find it a little odd like man we need experience we had Darin ham who had never been a head coach before even though he’d been an assistant for a million years and we need something and then they go to JJ reic which is like the opposite direction so I’m oh yeah look he might be look I’m not questioning his basketball like you I’m not going to say he doesn’t have the respect in the locker room I just that’s a big ass man and in a job where the expectations of Lakers fans and frankly Lakers management vastly outsized the talent on that roster at this point it is it is eerily familiar to or maybe recognizable to a Derek Fischer hire is that would that I’m trying to think of what the the comp would be I mean he jumped into media and he’s been Rock and rolling on the TV and throwing out I liked a lot of it I like a lot of his analysis and I actually love his bold nature and I love the fact that he called out Kendrick Perkins and he’s done the things that he’s done but I do Wonder a little bit is is Derrik fiser maybe the the most likely comp I I think it is I think fiser and kid are the two guys who recently jumped from player to coach kind of that quickly and you know both had their St like we said kid kids’s there now but how long did that take and and fiser certainly had his struggles I’m I’m that look what I’ve heard is that they’re trying to convin they’re doing all these interviews with James bgo um they would love to get him as the lead assistant they would love to hire reic as the man and have bgo kind of hold his hand through the start of this which I don’t know he’s an assistant coach man there’s a number that gets him to come it’s just that the Lakers want to pay it well Kurt we’re gonna have you on throughout the series we’re so glad that you have the time to join us we’re going to get started in this thing and and like I said we’ll give you a chance we’re not gonna hold you to this but give me the most likely NBA champion coming out of this series Boston I have Boston I’m get look my head keeps telling me it’s gonna be five or six but I’m gonna say seven because I respect Luca that much in the way he’s playing but it’s still Boston they’re just deeper and better I’m gonna be there by the way an we haven’t even talked about I like the mountain uniforms the Purple Mountain uniforms back in Utah they unleash those unveiled those today man I kind of like them uh they’re no they’re nice looking I just I went on a rant I I said I don’t care if they play in a burlap sack I just want to cover a Western Conference Finals I it doesn’t matter how good you look I just want to make sure you’re playing good and look I guess if it takes looking good to play good then let’s get on the the that concept and make sure they look good but you’re right I mean look the The Classy designs the classic colors the Jazz note the mountains I think it all is a beautiful combo no I’m with you I think that all looks awesome together um they’ve got now now the job is to get the uh the roster and the team up to where the uniforms I’m with you brother we’ll see if they can do some of that in the draft coming up in a few weeks we we’ll see if they can make up some ground on this thing we’ll have you on for that too get some coverage there Kurt you are the best appreciate every moment you give us always happy to hands take care of yourself man and good job holding down the for today I appreciate you that that’s Kurt Heen uh one of the best NBA voices and insiders out there he does a fantastic job in his coverage and we appreciate his time we are live at the Mountainland Fan event having a blast eating some pizzas James calt he’s vice president of owned operation yeah I love that you guys all have skin in the game it is so fun and we did the ESOP uh in 2018 where we we sold the company to the employees and uh we talk about this all the time almost overnight it went from they and them to we and are and our people take such pride in what this company is and what it’s become yeah and we pride oursel on the culture of the company and our culture breeds uh out bad culture and you know we have people that just you know it just doesn’t fit everybody and and uh some people just they don’t like it but the majority of people that are here just love being here and uh and it’s it’s just continues to grow it’s infectious come down grab a piece of pizza on us it’s free come down take check out the monster trucks check out all the different painting for sponsoring 60 and 60 they do an incredible job you going to refresh The Insider outside of your home with five-star experience with festar painting they’ve got the time the skills they’ve got the tools that’s fivestar painting.com fivestar painting.com if you want to get that house project going and we do app appreciate them but 60 and 60 this is our 10th 60 and 60 that Scotty and I have put together and are putting out and it’s always crazy kicking off the 60 and 60 because we name number 60 and then we blink and we’re naming number 40 and then we blink and we’re naming number 20 and then we blink and we’re down to 5 4 3 2 1 and then the season kicks so this helps speed along the summer a little bit so we can get back to football season and I’m EX decided to get it all started in fact here we go with number 60 in our 60 and 60 this is the top 60 and 60 60 it’s the Zone counts you down to the start of the 2024 college football season and now it’s time for today’s selection as voted on by the local sports media and you the fans and now it begins the best 60 players in the state of Utah we kick off the countdown in Logan with a transfer player who earned All Conference honors last year at New Mexico state and hopes to do the same this year in Logan in the Mountain West checking in at number 60 to kick off the countdown from Utah State University 6’1 285lb defensive lineman Gabriel Enz Utah State University head coach Blake Anderson Gabe and igu is one of the most surprising ing guys on our roster he plays so much bigger than he is physically he is one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around he has a competitive streak a mile wide he was an allconference player for him at the Mexico State and immediately made a huge impact on our locker room in terms of leadership I think physically he’s got a great presence but just the leadership value that he brings to the table is hard to hard to quantify this is the top 60 and 60 presented by five star painting on 975 the KSL Sports Zone Utah State retool in that defensive line they lost the fire sword tosser and they’ve lost a couple of other talents so they go out to the transfer portal and they pull in Gabe in igz and I was able to call gab’s bowl game last year he was in the New Mexico bowl and he is a very specific very bowling ball like type talent and he can create havoc and I think that’s a really good get for Utah State and I think it’s a a really good spot for him in the 60 and 60 still has a lot to prove and a long way to go but is going to be a contributor for Utah State on that defensive front no question about it and there you go kicking off the 60 and 60 I’m excited to get into this thing I’m finally sitting down with Kyle Whittingham tomorrow at 11:00 and we’re going to get all the sound for every one of his talent that are on the list and you know we we saw Utah state was a little bit short on talent and BYU was a little bit short on talent and Utah is is just not short on Talent this year if those guys stay healthy they are loaded with really solid incredible physical Twitchy Talent so be sitting down with KY Whittingham tomorrow and we’ll get that sound and we’ll be kicking off these things every day at 1:30 so you can hear the latest in the 60 and 60 every day at 130 and then what we do is transition right back to good bad and ugly it’s time to saddle up and talk about the winners and the losers this is The Good the Bad and the Ugly now here’s the good good bad and ugly brought to you by RGS theor in construction obsessed with quality results that’s RGS Exteriors the good for today we’re going to RSL and we’re excited because we’re going to be catching up with possibly John Kimble in a couple of other RSL higher ups as we go through the week rsl’s doing it Lloyd John Kimbell will join us Friday at 2 o’ and hopefully we’ll catch up with some players we’ll talk to some coaches and we’ll talk about the hottest thing in Major League Soccer RSL is unbeaten in their last 13 major league soccer games the first place in the west with 33 points and I actually had to reach out to the big guns I reached out to DJ to get some interesting stats and facts Chico orango right now leads Major League Soccer with 16 game goals the club record is 17 and that’s Alvaro sabaro back in 2012 Cho is fourth in major league soccer with nine assists 16 goals and the nine assists is is a total of 25 contributions so right now if you look at the 25 total goal contributions that is tied with Lionel Messi for the most in Major League Soccer so there’s your stat that’s the DJ stat Chico arango is currently tied with Lionel Messi Chicho arango is tied with Lionel Messi for contributions but I know no he’s he’s incredible unbelievable right now yeah 5-1 they beat Austin 5-1 yeah they’re they’re pretty incredible and he was responsible for three of them so he is impressive and we got to start to get in the RSL thing I’ve just been so tied up with NHL and trying to learn hockey and get going with hockey and and you know sometimes Major League Soccer takes a bit of a back seat but they can’t take a backseat when they’re playing like this so we’ll get going with that a little bit there’s your good let’s get to the bad now the [Music] bad Novak yovic has undergone surgery on a Tor in meniscus and it is doubtful that he’ll be able to participate in Wilton and I I don’t know I don’t know how important that is he in seven times yeah no just oh Novak yovic having to take a seat for a minute I was like I think the glory the meniscus is very important and Novak yovic is is very important to the sport but it’s like man you take a break for a minute seven weblon and and he’s incredible he actually had to withdraw in the um in the uh in his last uh jeez what what did he just withdraw from the original the the original Joker by the way I know we call uh uh yic uh Joker but he’s Novak is the original Joker he is the original Joker but he ended up hurting his miniscus in in this latest event and he had to withdraw and he underwent the surgery there in Paris and I don’t know he’s one of the most declarated tennis players in in tennis history so he’s he’s impressive and he does great things um but he’s going to have to sit back for a little bit there you go there’s your bad let’s get your ugly and of course the [Music] ugly I I now this one is is an act like this is an injury that’s actually really hard to talk about Novak yovic he’s got his money he’s got his accolades I what is he’s 24 time Grand Slam winner Novak yovic I mean he’s incredible now we go to Indianapolis Colts draft pick he’s a safety his name is Daniel Scott he was drafted in the fifth round in 2023 so he comes into that 2023 OTA the the summer session and he tears his ACL as his fifth round draft pick so his rookie year tears his ACL spends an entire year in recovery and here he is now in his sophomore season his second year in the NFL and he’s in summer workouts and this morning he just fully ruptured his ailles so oh man look coming from a guy that fought tooth and Nell to try to make an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent and and I broke my hand my rookie year and I thought that they were going to cut me and knowing going into my second year how important that Health was for me to be able to make it my second year this guy is in a living hell Daniel Scott is facing a a Monumental task and I’ve got to imagine between an ACL and an full Achilles rupture Daniel Scott has probably Seen the Last of a a NFL football field now he could jump in and maybe do some of these indoor leagues and maybe he could jump on and hit some Canadian football but this is just a heartbreaker for Daniel Scott rupturing an Achilles after blowing an ACL and not being able to find his way on an NFL field there’s your good you’re bad you’re ugly and you’re 60 and 60 remember every day we’re going to be kicking it off at 1:30 we’ll come back little whole world news we’ll get you set up for the 2:00 hour all here at Mountainland Supply Company here at orm at the FanFest event come down it’s about it’s kind of wrapping up but we still got some pieces you can still in come in grab a bite to eat climb the climbing wall if you want they’re I’m sure they’re to fire up the monster truck here so you got your kids with you come down watch them fire up the monster truck and have some fun more Hansen Scotty coming up next 3 2 1 it’s the 10th Annual top 60 in 60 get your college football fixed every day at 1:30 as the Zone counts you down to the start of the 2024 season by listing off the top 60 players in the state of Utah as voted on by the local media and you the fans you’ll also hear from the coaches as they talk about the players that will impact their season the most it’s the top 60 and 60 weekdays at 1:30 presented by five star painting on your home of the best college football coverage in Utah 975 the KSL Sports Zone go it’s time to span the globe for the hard-hitting news you care about well not really but hey at least we found it interesting this is whole world news on 975 the KSL Sports s We Got the Whole World in our you got the world in our hand we got the world in our hands we got the whole world in our hands we got the whole world in our hands you got you and me brother our hands you got you and me sister yeah it’s a Wednesday so you know it’s a win ticket Wednesday caller number 12 right now 801 575 Zone you’re going to win four tickets to the Salt Lake Bees home game during the 2024 season so you’re going to get tickets a pack of four to go watch a Bees game and all you got to do is be qual number 12 right now 801 575 five Zone get yourself out there taking some Bees baseball I’ve got the baseball bug I could sit out at a park right now and watch baseball maybe two three times a a week it’s just a blast sitting at a park eating some good food hanging out with your friends feeling that summer Vibe here in the crack of a bat enjoying some good play enjoying some good scene by the way the New Concept for the new uh bees stadium that they’re building out in Daybreak is going to be incredible uh state-of-the-art world class facilities and cannot wait for that to kick off because that’s a little bit closer to me out Eagle Mountain not quite the drive all the way downtown all right so whole world news we always like to find the news stories that maybe aren’t as much sports related but something that entertains us or excites us well this one’s got me cracking up a little bit because anytime you turn on an episode of Jeopardy and you see a sports category click up on the board you know you’re going to get some entertainment so this happened just recently um in fact I think it was uh Monday maybe their episode of Jeopardy up on the board it was 21st century Sports the three contestants picked every category and went down every row and there it sat 21st century Sports they’re like all right well Ken because Ken Jennings is the the new host Ken 21st century sports for 500 and this is how it went uh 21st century Sports 400 in 2007 this National League Squad became the first team with 10,000 losses in 2008 they won the World Series behind Cole haml and Ryan Howard Christina who are the Chicago Cubs no I’m sorry it’s a good guess but it’s the Phillies a bit like sci-fi anywhere or Phoenix gate it opened on October 15th 2018 to whisk College athletes to a new school they call it the transfer portal and here’s the last clue in 21st century Sports then Oklahoma City this master of the triple double became the first back-to-back MVP of the NBA All-Star game since the 1950s Adriana who is Durant sorry no who his teammate Russell Westbrook okay so here’s the kicker Joey by the way Joey president of Mountainland sitting here with me this is the kicker they put up a gigantic picture of Russell Westbrook and they couldn’t do and they gave and they gave the westle Westbrook background and the other two are looking at like I I don’t know and the girl was like fine I’ll risk it yeah Kevin Durant and they’re like no what a bunch of unrounded people way un aren’t these people supposed to like they’re supposed to be the best Among Us have a grip on everything supposed to they couldn’t even get the transfer portal they’re just looking at okay so I will admit you know there would be an astrophysics category and i’ I’m I’m sure i’ dumb myself through that yeah You’ figur it out but you give me 21st century Sports come on we’re rocking and rolling Joey heck you give yourself paleontology in you’re nailing it you give me paleontology hey you give Joey Waterworks that’s low hanging fruit baby yeah that is that’s lo give me toilets for a thousand come on Alex bring it over the double jeopardy oh dude Daily Double let’s go this device takes your feal matter and pushes it into the septic systems what is a toilet that is correct Joey have to answer in the form of a question of course I’m just telling you man I I would love that if it was Waterworks Water Systems kill it uh Mountain L Supply for anybody out there and you might hear Mountain Land and you’re like oh so what are you camping Outfitter no Mountainland Supply we deal in all things water and all things HVAC yep we got the parts we got the service and we got the people with the knowhow and and Joey I was just talking with um I was just talking with Brandon about how this thing went to employee owned yep and how much pride you guys take in Mount Lance Supply every everybody from from you on down takes so much pride in the way this thing runs do everybody here is an owner and we have that ownership mentality it was like that before we were in ESOP and we were truly employee owned everybody took ownership of what they did but now they get that back in their pocket in a form of a retirement I mean it’s awesome you know they everybody’s excited about everything we do they help drive all of these things we do this this FanFest we do today this is part of what they are driving it’s not really us driving it anymore you know July 10th we have our uh showroom grand opening in Oram that’s driven by our employees it’s not driven by you know Brandon myself it’s it’s driven by them they’re the owners that’s so cool yeah it’s awesome well you love it because you get a highend product and you got people that care so when you come in and ask for help it’s like oh yeah no know we got you we we’ll figure this out I was talking about you know just some of the do-it-yourself projects yeah if if you’re out there and and you really do want to save money because nowadays contractor contractors can be pretty expensive sure and you’re like I want to do it myself I want to start a sprinkler system you come in Joey and I know that Mountainland will get you set up with somebody that can help you with the design y help you with the parts and help you do your own sprinklers absolutely and maybe you know sometimes people just don’t know the contractor Network well enough that they can they know where to go to get a reasonable bid you know there’s a lot of people who advertise and Market really well but there may not be the cheapest and they may not give you the best uh experience as a homeowner and we might be able to guide you to somebody who is still going to help you and help you along in the process and you might help a little bit but maybe not as much as you thought you would what I what I love is you know over the 10 years that I’ve been with Mountainland we’ve built two houses together yeah you know we built my house we built my mom and dad’s house and Mountainland did it all from the inground septic Plumbing to the final you know knobs and faucets and all the finish work toilets and everything even to the towel holders that you screw up on a wall Mountainland did it all for me I want people to understand if you’re starting even that depth of project or if you’re a contractor looking for the right parts and the right people to hit you those parts with a smile and never let you down yeah that’s what we are yeah I’m I’m building the house personally myself right now and you know I’m I’m building with a contractor and he keeps asking hey do do you know where we could find this well yeah we sell that oh yeah we s if it’s finally a running joke hey Joey uh I’m sure you sell this so can you get it for us you know and that’s really kind of what we wanted to do we wanted to be a One-Stop shop of people who care and and we help the communities that we’re in so it’s awesome wow it’s been a great it’s been a successful Fan event yeah it’s been great it’s been awesome great weather great pizza great people it’s been awesome had to be a couple thousand uh yeah I I would say north of two yeah that to be over I’d say it’s under 10 north of two yeah there you go give yourself a wide birth let’s not be wrong I always hedge my bats I’m good more than one person less than 10,000 exactly right somewhere in there but it was an incredible event that’s Mount L Supply anything you need they got your back they can help you figure it out more Hanson Scotty coming up will Snowden college football and high school football Insider and expert joins us next getting you ready for the Camp season that’s all coming up [Music] our Mountainland Fan Experience it’s all kicked off it’s all starting to wrap up but it’s been an incredible day so many people coming out enjoying some free food and checking out the latest and greatest and all the vendors and getting the handshakes and hugs we just took a big picture of the Mountainland employees which they’re not really employees they they’re owners of the business it’s all an employee owned operation and they do an amazing job it’s just a big family down here when you’re hanging out with Brandon or you’re hanging out with Tim or you’re hanging out with Joey it’s just a big family event down here and it’s always so much fun so big thanks to Mountainland supply for putting on a heck of an event and a big thanks to them for bringing out free pizza because we all know I like a good free piece of pizza all right our next guest he is a college football high school football expert and Insider he knows how to navigate those Camp Seasons that can be so bulky and so difficult to get through it’s will Snowden one of the best in the business will thanks for joining us even though Scotty’s not here today well you know I had to I had to I’m excited to be here and I you know Scotty gave me a personal call just to just to explain that he needed me to come in and uh so I’m happy to do it for him he said do it regardless didn’t he did he did he beg you to come on with me yeah I mean it was and some problem have been made dinners and you know a trip around the world those type of things you know just for me to have to deal sit through this but no you know I love you and I love everyone down there and can’t wait to talk some football and sports and anything else you want to talk about as you can hear the monster truck is kicking off in the background uh look will there’s a lot of good things that come with the FanFest and there’s one bad thing that comes with the FanFest and that’s when they kick up the monster truck at 2:00 and drive it off the lot but it’s just a quick burst of energy and then they get the heck out of the way and then we’re off and running again so sorry that uh we weren’t prepared and ready for that thing to kick I should have seen it Johnny Richie was climbing into it and I should have seen that that thing was about to kick up hey uh will actually kind of a unique angle that I wanted to to kind of address before we get into some of the talent that we’re going to be talking about in the 60 and 60 um so many parents right now kicking off the summer camp season can you give me a rule of thumb because you are the Camp season expert and you’ve helped me for years navigate the the Camp season with all of my kids what’s like a rule of thumb on where to spend your money how to spend your money what camps work what camps don’t what’s worth it what’s not worth it so the camps I mean one of the things that’s so hard these days is navigating that I mean there’s there’s so many different camps there’s so many different opportun ities and you you want a great opportunity for your kid but you also need to make sure you understand what the opportunity really is and what it really isn’t so with the number one thing I try and educate my clients on and people that I Mentor is first off recruiting is very Regional right it starts regionally so you want to spend as much time in front of your local and and peer States places that are close so I I I spend a lot of time with my kids being in obviously Utah first but you’ve got Colorado Las Vegas Nevada California Arizona Idaho right you wanna you want to be in the in a region that is actually you know close to where you are it just doesn’t make sense for um schools to come all the way across the country to try try and get you it’s more expensive for them and they have less success getting kids to leave so the first thing I was educated is number one stay Regional get in front of schools that really recruit this this area um the second thing is make sure you cast a really wide net um so many guys are with this D1 or bus mentality and not just guys their parents as well um or with this D1 it’s either I’m going to be a D1 guy or or or not so you’re going to all the biggest and biggest schools and you have’t cast a net to other schools division 2 schools FCS schools which have have so much to offer academically and football but if you don’t think if you only Chase one level of football you can end up having pretty hurt feelings especially transfer for well it is today man that is the truth and and you’re just you’re seeing that in large numbers so well I was thinking about this just being out at these camps lately and just being in the mode that I’m currently in with my son it’s like we’re out at the camps in order to get him in front of people to get a look and I feel like back in our day we would go to the camps to try to get better you know you go to a team Camp to try to get better as a team or you go to I used to go to wrestling camps every year to try to get better at my moves and better at the positions and and and improve myself as a player and as an athlete have camps moved away from that as much and they’ve just made it about a showcase and an opportunity to get in front of a coach because it didn’t used to be about just an opportunity to get in front of a coach it was about getting better better yeah I mean 100% one of the biggest things is if you want to be a recruitable athlete you don’t show up to a camp needing to be coached that that and that’s just the reality of of of the college football when we were coming up it was totally different so the the reality is a lot of people are investing their money in camps and they should be investing their money in a speed someone to work on your your your son’s fundamental running does he really know how run number one right how how does he change direction how is his Pad level so so really a lot of money should be spent on the training so when you show up at these camps you’re actually able to Showcase your skills for these coaches because that’s what they’re looking to do what one of the sad truths about college coaching is a lot of the times you’ll see the top guys who they know about who move really well they’re getting a lot of the attention at camp and then the other guys are being coached either by players or ga not saying that those players at those schools don’t know what to teach not saying the G don’t know what to teach but you’re not getting coached by the college coaches you’re getting coached more by assistants or kids or or players on the team so if you want to be a guy who’s going to be evaluated aggressively by these schools when you get there you need to be prepared to and that’s in everything if you’re an O lineman your feet have to be exceptional you have to be able to strike you have to be able to change direction you have to be able to bend and sit down in your it sit down in your sets um if you’re a backer you need to be able to move your feet you need to be able to actually um be super explosive laterally um and move downhill if you’re a DB you have to have exceptional feet exceptional speed great ball skills all of those things and those things aren’t built in the one or two days that you’re at Camp those are built in the off seon so what we do is spend a lot of time during the offseason really sending our guys to get better at their at their uh at their position and like I say um one of the biggest things is that we try and um help our players understand is I I I want I don’t you need to master something so so for me there’s so many Jack of all trades who are just going through workouts just doing a drill and then moving on to the next drill but they haven’t perfected that first drill so until you’ve moved until you’ve perfected the first drill there’s no reason to move on to the second so if I start if I’m training a kid we’re going to spend a lot of time just on stance first if you’re not if you can’t get in your stance properly then how can we move on to the second on to the second movement so I highly suggest to parents that they spend their money on getting guidance for their kid as far as movement and being trained at that position now you go into the coaching now you go into these events and these coaches are wed by your skill set and that’s what they’re doing these are Big showcases for coaches to actually come evaluate um you know I know you just went down you were in Oregon you had a couple camps there one was a big Mega camp and you can see how many kids are there and how much commotion is going on and there’s a lot of talent but you can also see the kids who have been prepared for that day there’s a difference um and then you can see the kids who are just there hoping that hey the coach sees me and teaches me something they’re not overly teaching they’re really there to to evaluate you and see if you can fit into their program 100% blessing if you’re prepared yeah if you’re prepared no 100% And and if you’re not it you you see the guys that aren’t and you can see the underclassman that aren’t ready and then you see the guys that are polished and you know they come out with some type of electric colored headband and they they tie their shirts up a certain way and they wear crazy colors on their shorts and they’re Polished in their movements they’re front of the line they’re leading the drills they’re they’re leading the breakdowns and and you can see the guys that are truly polished and have been coached to come into these camps and really get seen by these division one coaches it’s it’s very evident will oh it’s extremely evident and I mean and also it’s not just the division one coaches the division onea that are there the division twos the threes the nias the junior college coaches everyone is looking to find the the next great talent and there so there is a ton of opportunity but you have to be a guy who’s going to stand out so you did name some things you see the the bright colors kids who are wearing something that’s going to stand out that makes the coach see them and actually remember them um so that’s another thing that we try and get our players to do is is wear something memorable so they can say oh it was the kid in this shirt the kid with the bandana he was amazing today who was that kid those are things you’re trying to do you’re trying to stand out but you want to stand out in the right way you don’t want to show up in the bright colors and look like crud you got to show up in the bright colors and be fundamentally sound and also you have to show up to these camps like it’s a game you’re here to perform you’re here to win today that’s what you’re here to do it’s not here to be coach it’s not here that that’s not what it’s here you’ve gotten better all all off seon now you will get some coaching especially if you’re someone super talented but you’ve got to be able to have give them something to work with something to catch their eye that’s going to make them say this is a power four power five level football player and if your son is not that person that you see and say hey once he goes out this camp they’re going to say this is a power for power power for uh football player then then then you need to put them back in the lab and let them start training and if you do that man man the guy really is the limit I believe that you can train any player who really has the want desire and to continue playing this sport they’ll have the opportunity because there’s too many guys out there who just spend they spend enough time to be good enough to make their team and start for their team but they’re not going to extra mile to actually make a coach say this guy could play at at this level because it’s just unbelievably competitive getting you ready for Camp season so many parents out there making the decision on where to send their kid and where to spend their money will Snowden with Alpha recruits he is the president but Courtney is the CEO he does answer to her and and that’s fine he understands what his what his role is inside the company we we all answer we all answer to Courtney and and that’s fine we we’ve all come to understand it and but just great in terms of helping your kids navigate these things and and that’s why I’ve had him come on well I want to talk a little bit about uh how much this transfer portal has changed and affected the way high school kids are being recruited maybe the volume that they’re being recruited and and how much you’re seeing maybe what was a D1 Talent uh D1 FBS have to work towards a D1 FCS or or even into a D2 or Jo well it so so what what this is the future of col football and and I’ve had to get comfortable with it hands uh and and I’ve done it reluctantly I’ve done it with anger I’ve done it with uh arguing I’ve done it with screaming with coaches and and um throwing temper tantrums literally um because what I’ve seen is a a a 50% cut in high high school recruiting but it’s almost it it goes from 50 to 70% depending depending on what school so I will tell you I have a local school in this state that will sign only five high school players this year now you know that there’s usually 25 in a class so you do the math wow so when you start looking at that you say okay wow so why parents have to be so smart and also there’ll be the same frustration the same cussing and spitting that I’ve done is when you go from 25 high school players usually getting an opportunity to go play at that level to five man gets concerning it’s scary so if you don’t realize how much work your son has to do to be one of those five six seven High School guys who are getting the opportunity and how competitive that is when you used to be 25 it’s just absolutely nuts so they’re not and and and and so everyone says well how long will this last well how long can this last it’s going to last a long time um as you see cam Rising has the ability to get an eighth year he’s not going to do that I’m sure but he could get that year back he could he could be back another year so that sets back a quarterback that’s TR who’s a talented quarterback who would be at the University of Utah but if Cam Rising decided to stay at the University of Utah for another year and appealed to the NCAA which he would win now all of a sudden you say okay well we don’t have that quarterback spot that we thought we were gonna have in 26 so so so so that that that’s one issue but the next issue is what would you I had to ask myself a question the actual CEO asked me the question that you were just speaking of what would if you were a coach that you had to feed your family this is how you fed your family and you had the ability to get a 20-year-old kid who’s been in college away from home for two years he’s proven that he can be away from Mom and Dad he’s proven that he can handle the grind of college academics and he’s proven that he can play at a college level with older men what would you take a kid who’s already in the portal who’s already been Lifting for two years eating for two years and proving his academics and his toughness or a high school kid um that plays High School football yeah I had to accept it I guess I have to take the portal kid even though how even though it frustrates me so what you’re seeing let’s let’s just use Weber State for example um just because we’ve seen a lot of success there with the portal last year you saw Bri and young had two their starting nickel and they starting outside corner where we State transfers yep that’s the reality if you then the same exact thing happened the Kelly kid jumped in the portal from Weber State a starting linebacker he played for he’s he’s gone now so what you’re going to see is over the next five years I expect division 2 football and division 1A football to be absolutely amazing now it’s going to be a process because you’re going to see kids who two three four five years ago would have been signing with a power five School they’ll end up signing with an FCS program even D2 programs now what they’ll do is they will go get developed and they will be farmed out of those D2 out of those Nia out of those division 3 and out of the SCS into power for football that is the new way of life so I’m giving free game right now to any listener who has a son so does it make sense to only chase the biggest schools in the country no does that mean your son won’t ever play for one of the biggest schools in the country no so if you taste the right schools that might be taking more high school kids and that your kid go develop get bigger stronger um and understand the college game get out some film even college practice film I took in multiple uh guys that I had who were uh preferred Walk-Ons at Major schools in the state transferred them out and they’ve gotten scholarship offers um and and they weren’t playing but they’ve been in college they’re older they’re stronger they’re more wise they’ve been practicing against top talent for two years so that that does mean something to these colleges where you’re kind of gambling on freshmen right you look at all the star ratings if you break down the star ratings of how many how how many of those kids who are rated players actually go to college and have success you start saying okay well that’s a that it’s hard to really make your evaluation off of High School evaluation so they feel safer taking the college player so parents are just going to have to be smarter and kids are going to have to be smarter and understand that that D1 or bust is just not the way to think it’s just not that’s why you need him uh help navigate through what is an everchanging landscape of college sports it’s not just football but college sports altogether continues to change with the NCAA versus the house ruling and the money payouts and what the universities have freedoms to do now and collectives and the way that’s going to continue to adjust it’s always good to have a guy like will Snowden on your side will thank you so much for your time brother appreciate you every time you jump on yeah and one other thing I want you to think about thank you so much also you need to look at what the NCAA just passed with the share of money what does that mean at these schools will they have 123 on the roster or will they only maybe have 85 as you’re sharing this money there’s only so much money to go around so things are going to change and change drastically quickly and I’m hoping that families and young athletes are prepared for it I’m here to answer questions follow me on Twitter um reach out and we’re here to help so thank you so much H it was a pleasure and I love the show what give me a website and Twitter for us to jump on uh well Al uh my Twitter is just Alpha recruits um you you can just follow me at alphar recruits uh5 and then our website is alphare recruits. comom and you can find ways to contact us there with any questions or if you have a son that wants to get some help we’re here to help 6 6 h yeah dude it’s it’s rolling out we got a lot of talent we’ll have you back on and we’ll talk about some of the talent as it comes out all right you have a great day appreciate you there you go will Snowden man things are changing so much uh these camps are pretty crazy I’m just there with my son and these camps are getting more and more crazy the talent is elevating more and more and the competition for those coveted Scholars ships it’s becoming more and more contentious and it’s pretty interesting eye opening going out and watching this thing as it develops we’ll take a quick break we’re going to come back we’re live at the Mountainland Supply Company Fan event and uh Bob Casper is hanging out with us and I know we’re going to have an opportunity to catch up on some US Open talk and get into some golf talk but hey we we had a special little booth out here we did we’ll talk about that too we’re bringing up some pretty good materials it was out here at the The Fan event so we’ll get into that but just the early projections on things how are things looking for the open coming oh I think it’s going to be a good one it’s going to be heated up and it’s going to be hard hey the World of Golf has turned into the Kardashians a little bit their story lines Galore tons story lines everywhere so we’ll get into that with Bob and much more that’s all coming up on Hansen Scotty 3 2 1 it’s fireworks shows tickets are on sale at teabird tickets.com that’s the Larry H Miller Utah Summer Games that’s going on June 7th at Southern Utah University that sounds like a lot of fun hanging out with me now one of my favorites one of the best to do it on radio Bob Casper how you doing Bud from real golf radio there you go I love being like in front of you front and center you know the only time I see you is when you post stuff about you and your son and that kind of thing my son kicking my butt I know which is which is pretty much daily uh you’re looking good brother where’s the where you leave some of you out on a golf course somewhere I did I did my goodness down to 199 yeah you’re looking good you too trying you’re getting spelt too I know I’m trying to stay lean you trying to get yourself back on the tour no go professional no I’m enjoying my kids and grandkids we we did a we did a cruise earlier this year for five days had 23 of us with kids and grandkids it was awesome uh where’d you go we went uh out of Galveston uhhuh and we did Western Caribbean for 5 days oh that doesn’t suck it was amazing I got some of the family sitting here next to you Preston who leads Prest AC Preston AC who leads up some of the uh the new division yeah that’s kicking up why don’t you Preston why don’t you tell me a little bit about it tell me about the Billy Casper sod and and fertilizer division yeah so we we’ve been in the golf management world as you know for the past 30 years um so this has been kind of a new product development that we’ve come across and um have some amazing soil Health Products that really ignite the biology within the root Zone um so we’ve been really successful with the a industry but now really pivoting into the the golf world I’m seeing some tremendous results just by waking up this biology uh having kind of a uh I guess our our big our big talking point is water savings as is everyone right these root that doesn’t need as much water exactly so these products are we’re seeing up to 30 35% in water savings reduction um because we’re getting better percolation into the root Zone uh getting movement of water and oxygen uh to where we can really start talking to the to the soil biology and and really feeding those microbes so the other thing is is you know we’ve got products that uh allow like Clays and you know where you see lots of puddling on golf courses and spots like that and everything it allows it to open up the soil and percolate that water down in through the soil to be used so you can put it in some of those clogged areas and it’s not only on golf courses it’s also consumers can do the same thing on their on their yards so that they can make their yards look like a golf course well you guys had a booth out here at the Mountainland Fan event and what we couple thousand people I’m sure you have a lot of people walking by and and checking out the product it’s got to be fun to be a part of this thing oh yeah always is and Mountain Line supply as you know and as we know is a great sponsor of our radio shows and and that kind of thing they have been for quite a while and uh love Mountainland yeah Mountainland and like you were saying earlier when you were talking to one of the guys you know the water going through the pipes all that kind of stuff you know we’re outside and we want to make our outside beautiful um and to be able to use less water to be able to make the soil and everything healthier and yeah and it’s and it’s not necessarily pesticides and and different types of chemicals we’re using like natural products very cool yeah uh Preston comes to us uh from Texas ATM he’s out of out of Texas he brings his bar barbecue wherewithal that’s right how does uh how does Bob fit in with some of the better barbecues you’ve had in your life he’s uh he’s up there we we need to get him down there to one of these barbecue competitions in lockart cuz we uh we do it right down there are you able to you got a little bit of a green thumb on a grill I I do so we we use real mosquet wood down there we’ve got Unlimited Supply of mosquite so yeah we uh we just we get old uh propane tanks and we weld them and make these just massive gr smokers it’s it’s a little ridiculous but uh we have a good time uh speaking of a good time uh we’ve got the memorial this weekend and then we’ got the open coming up yeah and I’m I can’t wait for it I mean talk first let’s talk a little bit about the memorial that’s going to be teeing off here tomorrow you know uh Memorial’s a a great event uh it it was designed by Jack Nicholas and it’s and it’s kind of meant to be Jack’s version of Augusta National you know players and players love the event caddies are are wearing white cover Ralls kind of like Augusta does that kind of thing and uh it’s it’s a phenomenal golf course and a great tuneup for for like a US Open um the great thing about it is it’s a signature event so because it’s a signature event only I think only 80 players are playing oh is that it’s a $20 million purse so it’s a cut field it’s it’s a and a lot of money it’s a lot of money yeah like first place it’s going to be $3.5 million something like that um but you know all the best players in the world are playing in in those Signature Events for the most part um and then next week the US Open is going to be phenomenal um it Pinehurst number two is like the Bedrock of us golf on the east coast and uh Brian Brian and I got a chance to play it uh back in May um invited during the media day and it is going to be hard is it yeah runs fast or what it’s going to run fast in the fairways but the thing about this golf course is you have to be spoton with shots going into greens because the greens are kind of an upside down Turtle Back are they kind of and and if you don’t hit it in the right spot it’ll catch the edge and it’ll roll off the green and and it repels off 20 or 30 yards and then it becomes a chipping and a putting contest those D greens man yep that’s it uh so what is the history what is the history on Pinehurst that that has been a longstanding competitive course that that they’ve used to challenge golfers for a long time isn’t it yeah this is going to be the the 1,000th USGA Championship competition okay of all of them that they do this will this will be one number 1,0000 okay and um the great thing about the golf course is that this is the fourth time it’s had a US Open um we’ve had Payne Stewart and Michael Campbell and um uh forgot the other two guys but but it’s it’s going to be a tough challenge really really tough challenge they have 10 courses in Pinehurst at Pinehurst that are involved in the whole group so there’s you can go there and you can play to your heart’s content okay uh it’s it’s amazing um it’s it’s going to be one of their anchor it’s an it’s an anchor course for them for the USGA which means that the USGA invests in the infrastructure of the golf course for water and electrical and all that kind of stuff knowing that they’re going to be coming back every 5 to eight years okay so that and then the USGA also took over the World Golf Hall of Fame and they have a World Golf Hall of Fame now that they’re just going to be opening the week of the US Open well I get excited for these things and you know this last major event that we had it led to some craziness with Scotty sheffler y all charges are dropped everything kind of everybody’s moving on and upwards is there going to be any other Fallout from what happened not a thing cuz the the the the video that came out of it was just awkward and yeah and the you know and the arresting detective didn’t have his his video yeah on and that kind of thing and so yeah it’s I was surprised that it went as long as it did I figured it would have been done by the end of the week or first part of the week do you believe that that affected the way he played and his potential outcome okay my two thoughts are um he came back after the arrest he shot he shot the best round of the week that five under or six under five under yeah six under something like that okay so he was right in there but the interesting thing was his other snafu against him was that he had set up with his caddy earlier in the year his CAD his cadd Ted Scott who has been on his bag for every win every major championship everything in the last three years okay um a big part of their partnership and what they do his daughter graduated from high school on Saturday of the PGA Championship and he did not caddy that day he went back to Louisiana for her graduation was there um Scotty had a friend of his caddy and I think that probably might have hurt him a little bit because he shot overpar his first overpar round of the year so did he lose his number one ranking no okay he’s so far ahead he’s so far ahead in the world rankings right now that’s crazy okay yeah cuz he still finished top 10 he finished eighth that’s right yeah yeah that’s right yeah um as as we kind of head into the the open how’s Tony Fina playing you know Tony started to play better as of late he’s had a couple top 10 finishes and that kind of thing so I expect this golf course would be a good golf course for him the thing that’s tough about it is Tony’s Tony is pretty good around the greens um where he lacks a little bit in his putting but he is phenomenal hitting second shots into greens and that’s what you’re really going to have to do this week that this week this next week sorry okay next at the Open Championship US Open yeah I I uh I have been really interested in just kind of seeing some different a little bit different perspective on some of these players you I did I I just retweeted a picture of pton Manning who I who I know well yeah standing next to Roy m I heard about a hit you put on him in practice rookie practice yeah I did I did I I had to make a name for myself right up right up under his got him good and knocked the wind out of him didn’t you yeah and I had the offensive line on my back it was it was a brawl it was a big brawl but he’s standing next to Roy Ma I didn’t realize Roy maroy was a tiny little no Rory Rory’s like 5’10 he’s just little guy he’s not a big guy what what are most tour guys built like or is it just a it’s changed it’s changed I mean you get you get small guys like Brian Haron and Rory and um but a lot of the guys right now are 6′ to 68 that are golfers so I know Dustin Johnson’s a big lengthy big 64 65 give me some of the other big guys that are on tour um like the the other six Lou Gober he’s probably about 6’4 65 see when you when you get that my dad my dad was 5’11 okay um so the guys that are taller and bigger now they have a a bigger Advantage because they get more leverage on the ball and get a bigger swing so the so the speed is faster which makes makes it hit longer Rory has to do it a different way uh Justin Thomas has to do it a different way he’s little yeah because what they do now is they use the ground to pressure off the ground when they hit the ball and you do see that lift yeah they they’re up on their toes off the ground they’re pushing off the ground and and even de Shambo what how big is brys and de Shambo well brys I mean he bulked up to where it was crazy but Bryson’s probably 6’2 63 okay so he’s in the six yeah he’s he’s he’s in the big range but he still comes up on those oh yeah oh yeah and all of them and list up as he presses through that’s how that’s how they teach the guys right now in this open that’s coming up at Piner is is distance the big Advantage because I remember when Bryson just started driving into the rough green side and that’s the way I think he got his first major wasn’t it yeah that’s what he did at at P at uh wingf foot which is also where my dad won a US Open in 1959 which is an incredible one so um the interesting thing about this golf course is it is it’s more native off the fairways and less rough oh okay okay so the USGA went back in well well when it was redesigned by Ben khaw okay and they took it back to more of a natural state like it was designed initially in the first place okay so they put all these little Eel Grass yeah pieces down both sides well a lot of those had died off and Pinehurst had taken a bunch out the usj put in 50,000 more for this us of those toughs of those toughs with the eel Rass so your ball could be under it it could be on top of it it could be on the opposite side where you can’t get a club to it and or and you’re going to have to pitch it out and that kind of thing so it’s you first of all you’re going to have to need to get in the Fairway cuz the Fairway is how you set up hitting into the greens then you’re going to have to hit it on the right spots of the greens so that it doesn’t repel off the greens and then and then it becomes a chipping and putting contest so you did you can’t really take that philosophy of I’m just going to thump it you just can’t bash swack it out of deep grass n NP I’m excited it’s Bob Casper best in the business you can hear him on real golf radio every single Saturday he and Brian Taylor what year are you guys in now 25 yeah Scotty and I just celebrated our 10th and they made it they made it seem like the big old Grand thing I’m like I’m prettyy sure BT and Bob have been together longer than anybody yeah and the other thing I was going to say if you’re interested around about the Billy Casper golf soil and turf stuff yeah you can get it at Mountainland we have it we have it here in shop they sell it here and we’re working with with some of the golf courses sod farms cities that kind of state around the state that that to get the product out but they did they are our exclusive distributor for the state of Utah that’s exciting Preston Bob thank you for stopping by thank you you got it thanks for everything you do and we’ll be talking I know man we got to we got to do it I I just want your brisket I’ll be honest I brisket I want the ball brisket I love brisket oh a tough one no is it tough to do once you once you understand the process yeah simple as easy as a park very similar very similar yeah and you can either do it fast and uh long and slow yeah or fast and hot and it comes out the same it still comes out good yep well we’ll get some more of those tips as we go along Bob thank you you bet Preston thank you yes sir more H and Scotty we’ll wrap this thing up coming up next hey bro you hear us every day with our crazy
