This seems like a statement that’s impossible to prove or disprove so nobody can really challenge it. Obviously he’s had a ton of success and I’m sure any college team would love to have him, but aren’t the Lakers the only NBA team that has seriously gone after him?

I know Hurley wants to three peat but giving up your only chance to coach Lebron has gotta be a tough decision

    “Most sought after”

Why hasn’t there been more smoke around him until now?

I mean… I could understand this as a more successful version of a Brad Stevens-esque hire (young college coach with great success), but we hired Brad after we traded Pierce and KG and were rebuilding…

I don’t know, it just seems crazy to give a win-now player like LeBron (and AD for that matter), a first-time NBA coach with no experience/knowledge of the NBA. Say what you want about JJ Redick, but the dude has been living/breathing the NBA for the last 15-20 years in terms of being a player, then an analyst, and podcast host covering the league.

  5. Interesting, Lebron has always been complementary of system coaches (Pop, thibs, etc.), but notably never keen on playing for them

  6. A week of no ball and no news and all of a sudden this drops on finals day. Lol Lakers/Lebron

Woj is just carrying water for his agent
    This is not journalism

  8. Game 1 of the finals and we’re talking about the Lakers next head coach

  9. Imthegoat175

Most sought after? Which teams made a run at him?

  10. sully9614

Woj working overtime for the PR machine damn, most sought after? And his name hasn’t been brought up once before 4AM western time?

  11. MikeyCyrus

This doesn’t seem like it indicates that they’re close to agreeing on anything at all? Seems very vague and intentionally misleading

  12. BLIZZARDFACE

Woj is all in on Hurley now as Shams has been all in on JJ.

a lot of coaches in college throughout all ncaa sports have been pretty vocal about the negatives of NIL and the transfer portal. perhaps hurley is at a point now where he’s reached the mountaintop and now doesn’t want to have to deal with all of the college nonsense.

Day one of finals and we’re talking about the Lakers again. I hope Laker nation has a horrible, no good day

I feel like the first tweets about this indicated it was definitely happening, but everything after that indicates it’s not really all that close lol

Man, Hurley is the most college coach that ever colleged. Brillant mind and tactician, but I don’t know how his shtick is going to mesh with these guys.

  17. EverybodyBuddy

As an actually realistic Lakers fan, there is no indication whatsoever that Hurley is interested in leaving UConn.

This smells like JJ’s agent is demanding the moon and Lakers trying to gain some leverage.

SO SMART to bring in a College coach into NBA for LeBrons last 2 years. Genius.

  19. pr1ncejeffie

Imagine asking NBA players especially veterans to move a lot off-ball and double screenings on top of Hurley’s personality.

  20. The usual profile pieces which is just the Lakers trying to convince the world that this time, this one is perfect.

  21. Woj wrote a ***fawning*** book about this guy’s dad btw. Havent seen anyone mention that yet.
