Landry Fields Better Not Mess This Up For The Atlanta Hawks | Atlanta Sports Party

all right Maria we’re three weeks away from the NBA draft and the anticipation building but I think it’s interesting because sometimes where you are when you hear that the Hawks the Atlanta Hawks actually receive that number one pick which was about a month ago and where you might be now are two totally different places and who knows maybe three weeks from now you’ll feel a little bit different differently as well but what is your position on what the Hogs should do with that number one pick as we’re three weeks away from the draft and has your position changed since they got that pick nearly a month ago especially with all these trade rumors swirling yeah I mean I think at first I would have told you yes stay at that number one pick just because it doesn’t happen very often especially for the Hawks we were all so surprised they had a 3% chance at getting the number one spot and it was just this crazy event and it you know we’ve talked about it in the past there’s not a clear consensus number one even who everyone thought would be the number one player taken off the board has shifted a little bit it’s not SAR like everyone thought it could be but it could not be so there are different moving Parts when it comes to that top pick so I would have said stay there because you get a guy that maybe works out and is fantastic and again you’re going to find talent in the draft for sure but there is not a clear number one overall pick we’ve been saying that ever since they got it we were like okay this of all years they get it what um but I think they have so many other things to figure out before that which is crazy because yes you said time is ticking down but if there was ever a time to make a big trade a big move whether that’s throw some draft picks in there whatever that is what the Hawks should do and they should do it now do I think that this front office will do that I don’t know I mean I really don’t there’s there’s nothing that tells me that they will although I do believe that this would be a really good opportunity to make a blockbuster trade here yeah wow man uh I think that that the Hawks just stay stay in Pat and i’ that hasn’t changed for me as as a matter of fact as it get closer to the draft I think alexar you know makes makes the most sense because we I feel like the foundation of wherever they go wherever they decide to go as far as you know the direction of this organization whether it keep try try try keep the jeante trade de jante I feel like the Clint capella has to be replaced and there no shade towards him I feel like a a seven foot athletic big man has the opportunity to make a bigger um impact his rookie year than say zacharyi rir you know those that’s the person that you know the Hawks were you know had flew out you know and Quinn Snider and all them everybody was out there you know checking him out and seeing what he was doing in the playoffs overseas so I ca wi this is such a wing heavy League like that takes time it takes time for those guys unless they’re just absolute dog like a Edward type right and even it took him a couple years to kind of you know come into hey yeah he’s he was definitely the right number one pick yeah three two three years later everybody said that so so I feel like you know they need to you know go go get that big get athletic big and he’s a guy that can kind of do not only do pick and roll and he can do some pick and pop situations as well because when Trey was cooking like he had that pick and roll going like he had a big that can that can move and run up and be a rim Runner and everything like that you know they kind of fluctuated between Clint and John Collins so I feel like this is this makes all the sense in the world regardless of where they’re going I think for me it’s the outliers that may actually dictate it because and I hate to say this because I know I sound like a broken record but it is the thing that kind of dictates that I’ve stood Pat on okay keep the number one pick I would love them to package it up but the reality is they’ve always had and continue to have challenges getting free agents here because the last two big free agents you look at Clint capella Clint capella was injured and a lot of teams kind of shied away from him they got him in February and sat him for the rest of the season before they could even see what he was wor and he wasn’t necessar considered a true top tier pre agent he was maybe like one B we’ll call it right I won’t say’s a second tier but maybe a one B tier and then for Deon Murray wasn’t on the trade block literally was a guy who said who his team said hey we’re about to just go into tank mode you’re too good for that want to go elsewhere and it just kind of worked out because of the relationships built between Landry fields and Spurs etc etc so I’m not sure that there’s a free agent that they actually need that they can actually get because that free agent will be willing to come here I think the other thing is no matter what the Hawks try to do these days it seems like they simply cannot get a trade part partner think about I think one two or all three of us were banging the the drums for Derek white OG anobi and Pascal seak to name three that ends up with teams one of which is in the conference finals oh excuse me the NBA Finals the other two in the Conference Finals so my point being they can never get the trade Partners whether it’s a two-way three team or four team trade to get who they want so I’m not sure I want them to I’m not sure they’re gonna be able to do anything with that number one pick because I don’t know that they’re gonna do that and be able to pull that off and the third thing and final thing on that piece was I don’t think with some of the things that are swirling in the rumor mill it seems like with the most recent one of course you know the the get Carl Anthony towns because he’ll be great in the pick and roll and pick and pop well when you look at the terms of the alleged pH oh my God the W walk away like the dag on Mavericks they’ll be the W they’ll walk away like the Spurs they’ll be the winners the the the reality is the Hawks aren’t yet getting a trade that looks good for the Hawks it seems so lcks yeah exactly every little trade room I’ve seen so far it’s like the Hawks aren’t winning again that’s the only reason I kind of want them to stay at the number one pick I so wish Maria that they could do what you said because getting a number one pick and being able to negotiate with that is such a rarity and never for them um as as a result of the lottery but yeah the reality is I’m not sure they can make it happen but Trey young seems to maybe think otherwise maybe Maria we should expect the unexpected nowadays according to his tweet that’s exactly what we should do what do you think trade means and what for you might be something unexpected for this Hawks team this season a trade and I’m saying it because I’m a dreamer and make him better yeah I mean literally that’s why I’m saying it because not only do I think that it’s probably not going to happen but I’m a dreamer and I want it to happen because I also believe that unless they make significant like we’ve talked about at length unless they make significant changes to this roster Trey is out of here and he has dropped little nuggets here and there uh whatever you want to call them that he’s frustrated that he’s annoyed that he wants to win now which has never changed he’s always wanted to win so that’s nothing new he’s just vocalizing it a little bit more I think these days on social media um he said expect the unexpected you know maybe that’s him saying hey hello pay attention if you guys don’t do something for real I really am GNA explore going elsewhere and that’s I just feel like they have to do something crazy crazy in the terms of we can’t believe that the Hawks can do it in order to keep their star point guard around I just don’t think that you can stand Pat and expect him to be here indeed yeah I it’s it has to be Landfield don’t need to mess this up right you know hey man look like have a have a vision for what does that even look like for the Hawks I don’t know that’s what that’s what I’m saying this is this is the problem right we’re we’re what three weeks away from the draft and we don’t know have no one has any idea where this where this H team is go not even insiders we know we cover this team you know on on a daily basis you know for several years right and nobody has any clue and it’s a lot of speculation going on so and then when you have your star point guard say hey man expect unexpected we don’t know what to expect man trade Trey they trade de jante they trade both of those guys would you all be surprised I mean it might sting a little bit but I was like okay you know what’s next might be expecting the unexpected and I hope this doesn’t come out too negatively but expecting the unexpected would be the Hawks win the off season that’s what would be the unexpected for me and yeah and whatever that looks like it doesn’t matter to us I don’t care if it looks like getting the number one pick right which I know would take a couple years to figure out I don’t care if it looks like an overhaul that looks more like a a rebuild than a reset whatever that is the the unexpected at this point is to get the offseason right if you can do that I think that we’ll look back the three of us and on the other side of probably free agencies or probably one of our shows in July will say ah that was the unexpected that we were looking for and we think they finally gotten it right well you know there’s a guy that typically gets it right all the time and he might be put in a situation sooner rather than later because of developments that have happened in Braves country where he has to get it right soon we’re going to talk about that when we come back in around the Metro

Landry Fields and the Atlanta Hawks have more pressure on them to make the right decision than in previous seasons. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray have been the subject of trade talks around the NBA. Tenitra, Jarvis, and Maria discussed what the Hawks need to do before the 2024 NBA Draft.

  1. Didn't Trae say that same quote before the NFL draft? Stop overreacting!!! And as for what they should do with the pick, they should take Sarr and dip. We don't need a repeat of the Pau Gasol trade. Sarr is our best hope right now.

  2. One thing I know as an Atlanta sports fan, we’ll all be disappointed in the end.
