How Do the Miami Heat Build Around Bam Adebayo? | Miami HEAT Podcast

a potential trade with the Houston Rockets could net Miami a young talented star on the rise but is it worth the deal we’ll grade that trade and ask what kind of team the Heat would consider building around their future centerpiece bam bio plus the latest on Lori Mark and much more on today’s episode of Locked on [Music] heat you are locked on heat your daily Miami Heat podcast part of the locked to do it with the NBA Finals here recording this just hours before game one uh but we’re not talking about that today we are going to talk about whether or not the heat could trade for one Lowry Markin we’ve got another fake trade that we’re going to grade later on in the show but first I want to start with this we were talking yesterday after we got done recording David off air uh about how you build a the team around bam out of Bio because this could be something that they have to do depending on what happens with Jimmy Butler so we had that wo report about a month or so ago that the heat are looking to add a star that is more in line with Bam’s timeline so I think this is something that’s worth having a conversation about as we sort of look forward how do you think the heat can build around bam what should they be looking for what kind of players what are sort of those steps well I I think you know to the overall question and I know a lot of people immediately will hear that go but why do you need to build around bam one because I think there’s a somewhat vocal minority that doesn’t believe in bam as a superstar we’ve had this conversation before but it Bears repeating that they’re in the wrong franchise views him that way that’s who he is it’s not our perspective we’re just talking to you from the perspective of the team they see him as their future and that’s the case right now and what we’re talking about because there has to be at some point a consolidation of these timelines that have been somewhat in congruent over the last five seasons of Jimmy Butler’s career here and in terms of how they build that roster and you might realistically have to start making adjustments for a future that I don’t know if it’ll play out this offseason I don’t know if it’ll play out next or two years from now but Jimmy’s time in the NBA is short much less in Miami it could happen as soon as next month and this is not a wish of ours or anything like that so it’s just something to consider because at some point the league I’m sorry the team has had to change or will have to change the way they view roster building we’re talking about this in terms of offseason moves and what they could possibly do their future with a salary cap in terms of what they do with a draft you’re looking at acquiring players and I’ll even go back to last season’s draft I would say the acquisition of a haime hakz might already be with the idea of well if we do lose Jimmy Butler at some point because he retires or anything else we might have somebody who is a Jimmy Butler light like this is a player who compared himself to Jimmy Butler before the draft showed flashes of Jimmy Butler style of play throughout his first rookie season I think it’s logical to assume that they’re already envisioning what a team around bamama to bi as your centerpiece and one that does not include Jimmy Butler or does not include Jimmy Butler as your onea what that might look like so to answer the second question can I can I jump in there I would even go back to the 2022 Draft when they drafted yic as a guy who pairs as a long-term fit at n he was 19 18 years old whatever he was when they drafted him right that’s a that’s a pick that you make with bam atabo in mind not Jimmy Butler in mind right and you’re absolutely right it and it’s such a great point the heat are going to give bam atab bio an extension and Bam’s going to sign it right boring something crazy happening and it’s probably not going to be this summer it makes more sense for bam to wait until next summer to sign it when he has a chance to make maybe make a little bit more money on it but he’s going to be here for a while and we don’t know how long Jimmy Butler but even if Jimmy Butler does finish his career and retire as a member of the Miami Heat he’s going into his age 35y old season Bam’s 26 at some point you’re going to have to be you’re going to have to Pivot to the BAM timeline and I do think that it’s probably going to be sooner rather than later because you just can’t build around a guy who is 35 36 37 years old the way that Jimmy Butler is going to be and this team views bam as you said a franchise player now that doesn’t mean he’s the number one player on the team that’s not the same thing he is a building block he is a franchise anchor he is somebody you are building around I think as we’re going to get to I think you and I agree he can’t be the number one scorer on that offense he can’t be maybe he’s probably not even good if you’re trying to win a championship probably not even the best player on that team but not today’s League’s League yeah but he’s he’s still the guy that you’re building around and with if that makes sense so absolutely to the to Let’s so let’s move on so what what kind of complimentary pieces how do you think a team with bam or let’s put it before we get to compliment how do you think a team with bam should play as as a building block I don’t think you have to change much in terms of the approach like I think it’s still got to be at this point a little bit more fast-paced I think a lot more movement off ball I think benefits a a passer like bam and I think as such you would probably want to surround him with guys like you mentioned in terms of what Miami is looking for in the draft people that can put the ball down that can create shots for others and can swing the ball efficiently Jimmy certainly that but the thing that I think is a little different is that you’re gonna try to surround bam with more complimentary Shooters and I think that’s the approach is to surround him with four tallish players not necessarily a a a floor General because I don’t think that matters as much I don’t think the heat thinks it matters as much and I think we see that around the league like Nia yic is the team’s point guard really and he’s seven foot you know whatever and so I think you can build a team around equal number of ball handlers out the floor could include yic could include hakz and then comp complimenting those three players at the very least two similarly size swings wing wings and ball handlers that can shoot with accuracy and consistently I think the Difference Maker um you want to play fast I think you want to play faster you hit the nail on the head I think bam is leaving points on the table just because of how slow the heat tend to play and it’s not necessarily his fault but if you had if you had more of a runand gun offense he was able to do Transition yeah and what he can do in transition as a as a as a runner would be awesome but this team does just play slow in this Jimmy Butler Centric offense and so um that’s part of it and then you ask yourself all right what are the things that he does not bring to the table he doesn’t bring positional size if he’s playing Center and I still think that the best version of this team the best lineups for this team is Bam at Center bam at the five with spacing with switchability with all those things even though I do think that there’s a good argument to be made that you should move bam to the four for portions of the game but I don’t think he’s a full-time power forward either um so I think because you’re not getting positional size at that Center Spot then you want positional size at at every position if not almost every position um and and so to your point yes taller longer players and then because bam yeah I know that he started to shoot the three a little bit but we are very far away from him becoming Brook Lopez from three-point Ranger that g be a five out offense anytime soon and if it is great but for it to be a five out offense the other four guys have to shoot the ball too from from three so everybody to me if you’re building around bam the other four players have to be three-point Shooters legitimate ones and that’s where even the Jimmy Butler thing kind of falls short and so I that so you’re absolutely right the other part with all the length too is the heat got away from this last year where they kind of went from a switch defense to a drop defense with bam and drop bam is not a drop Center I mean he the thing with B he could play any defense and he’s Elite at all the defenses and that’s why we think he’s the best defensive player in the league but if you really want to lean into his strengths then you want him switched onto guards in space so that he could do that right because that’s a strength he can do it that’s a strength of his but you got to be able to switch everything if you’re going to switch everything so that’s why that length and all that kind of stuff matters so we’re talking about skilled long defensive minded type of players now everybody wants those players those players are really really hard to get but that’s sort of what we’re looking at no yeah I mean you can’t have again if you if you want to focus on Switching defense as your priority and I think with bam skill set you should certainly should you can’t afford to give up Al Horford on Tyler hero kind of thing you know you need some who’s a little bit more sturdy in that capacity not to pick on hero specifically I’m talking about anybody who’s somewhat considered undersized for their position hero is just not that Stout a Defender at this point in his career maybe he will be and I don’t know if he necessarily would he fit this team if he were to evolve into more of your quote unquote point guard or at least the the smallest player on the court for Miami like that’s and that’s what I’ve been arguing like they went to lineups mostly because they were hurt with Hero at point guard and Caleb marttin at the two guard and then you know Jimmy and yic or whoever it was and that I thought should be the starting line up going into the season and um and they only really experimented with a little bit but to your point yeah I mean you can have a small point I think if you were going to build a team around bam the way I would look at it is the the Golden State Warriors in their Dynasty era when they they started Draymond Green at Power Forward they had Andrew bogate or Zaza pulia at Center and then when they really wanted to you know put the hammer on the other team they took their traditional Center off the floor Draymond moved to the five and then we got the death lineup right right I would be trying to be in that death lineup for most of the game if I were the heat building around bam and you think about the other players on the floor it was Klay Thompson a three and D wing it was Kevin Durant a seven-footer you know masquerading as a wing it was it was often it was Andre guala who was uh able to defend multiple positions and handle the ball and then obviously it was Steph Curry Steph was a weak Defender but he tried really hard and he was strong and he was getting stronger as his body matured and he got to a point he right he was smart yeah did Kyrie Irving and LeBron James uh bully him in the 2016 finals and that was basically how they got back and and won that Championship yeah that’s sort of the risk with it but then they added Kevin Durant the next year and they never lost another finals while that team was healthy so yeah that to me is how you would build it now it’s really hard to go get Kevin Durant and Steph Curry but I’m just trying I’m talking about like the vision the sort of the arch types rather yeah if you can surround badaya with four other Hall of Famers you do it heart in a heartbeat I don’t think that’s hot take that’s not what we’re debating here it is though the format for what Miami could replicate and succeed at like again people I think again it’s not to say that yovic is Durant but given his size and length and everything that I think he is a good complimentary player if you’re looking at players on his roster that can replicate that format again not that same level of elite we’re not talk about talent but you’re right format yic almost seven feet tall shoots shoots the heck out of the ball handles it well is growing as a Defender yeah these are the things he’s not Kevin Durant but you’re trying to find that like size you’re trying to find those like patterns and those archetypes we do have some other stars who could potentially fit that format we’re going to talk about that next here on lock on heat appreciated there was a report David the other day that if the Jazz were to listen to offers for lwi marinin that he would be a quote unquote dream Target for the Heat and the Lakers uh we spent a lot of time talking about Donovan Mitchell but but we don’t know what’s going to happen there he could sign the extension we still have no idea if he doesn’t end up being an option what do you think about the Heat going all in for marinan I don’t know what Allin represents necessarily but I think making him a Target certainly makes a lot of sense in reference to what we were just talking about like Markin is that type of player he is the guy who can space the floor he’s seven feet tall he does all the things that you want in terms of a player who’s right at that point too like when you’re looking at potential trade targets you’re looking for a young guy who can fit Bam’s timeline marke and certainly that but also a guy who’s needs something more he needs to win right now he’s in a not great situation in Utah because they’re not going to be doing a lot of immediate winning and certainly not title contending he was a cast off in Chicago he recently talked about that like the idea of players that signed you know are selected by a team and they just don’t pan out and then somehow their options for rebirth and and resuscitation of their careers elsewhere what we’re seeing that with Market it like he turned into a very good decent player in Cleveland and then he W up turning into a phenomenal player in Utah who checks off a lot of the boxes that you’re looking for if you’re in the Miami Heat front office so I think it’s a great fit 7 feet 240 pounds has played both forward positions for his career has been experimented as a small ball Center at times but that’s not necessarily his strong suit but hey luckily for him if he’s playing in Miami he’ll never have to do that because he’d be playing like next to Bam um made the All-Star Game a couple years go he averaged 25.6 points per game that year this past season 23 points per game shot 40% from three on eight three-point attempts per game when we talk about bam sort of experimenting with a three-point shot this guy is a three-point shooter there is no experimenting he shoots the snot out of the ball he’s a knockdown three-point shooter and not just for his position he’s one of the better three-point shooters in the NBA and so when we talk about sort of bigger Wings who sort of have those like Wing balls or bigger forwards who have those guard skills that that spacing all that stuff the way we were talking about Kevin Durant that’s Lowry marinin and his situation in Utah is really interesting because he is an All-Star they got him in the Donovan Mitchell trade he’s 27 years old he’s making million this coming season and he’s got the option to extend and the Jazz have the option to extend him but he’s 27 years old I’m not really sure where the Jazz are going and they have to ask themselves do we want to extend Larry marinan and try to make a big push to put players around low so that we could be competitive right now or do we trade him because we’re not really sure what our window is going to be and we don’t want and we want to you know obviously utilize this asset the way we want to do it in case anybody needs any reminding Danny a is now in charge of the Utah Jazz so uh he does tend to kind of wheel and deal and and work in these sort of quarters so um I think Larry marinan is a guy that every front office is going to be calling about Danny Ang will let it be known to the media that he has no interest in trading Larry Markin in the same way he said he had no interest in trading Rudy goar and no interest in trading Donovan Mitchell and then a month later turned around and traded Rudy goar and traded Donovan Mitchell so he I do believe that Lowry can be had at the right price I don’t know what that price is uh there’s this this idea that the Jazz really love Tyler hero I’m not really sure where that came from I don’t know if that was reported I don’t know what it is either way I think there was initial interest from a before the heat selected him I think he was still in at that point in the draft okay so this guy so now the Jazz have ke George who they really like I also I also think there’s a a race thing involved there that he that the idea that Tyler would be a very popular player in Utah yes I’m sure that’s exactly how Danny Ang operates he’s like is he white yeah um check check that’s how I became a successful general manager um it’s I don’t care I don’t I don’t believe that the Jazz would just trade tahiro fi Markin in in other words they’ve got George they have Colin ston they have guards that they like I don’t think that they’d be like yeah the seven-footer who can shoot and is a proven All-Star we’re going to trade him for Tyler Hero at a position that we don’t really need a lot there uh because we’re not getting aite at that position but Tyler hero could be part of a bigger package maybe a package that includes a niik yovic where it’s like hey we have like seveny year younger niika yo uh Larry Markin and in nikol yic right here maybe that’s something that fits your window a little bit you could do more of a reset you get another asset whether it’s Tyler hero or something else and then we obviously incl include whatever picks probably two or three first round picks I mean like this guy is going to be in high demand lar marinin is a player who does not need the ball spaces the floor can score 20 points per game sleeping and he fits almost every roster in the league whatever you think the price of Larry marinin is right now is going to be driven up if there’s a bidding war so I think it would cost it could cost the Donovan Mitchell package it could be hero one of the young guys probably yic in this in this instance and three first round picks and I think that would be would have to be something that they heat think about if they can’t get Donovan Mitchell so how does that lineup then compare to what miam’s projected lineup would be assuming Jimmy Butler’s still there assuming you keep Terry Rosier in this deal although Terry was presumably drafted by Danny age and Boston so maybe there’s a link there I don’t know although he also might been the one who traded him to Charlotte so I don’t know how much that link actually means for anything I think it would be Rosier Duncan Robinson assuming that you’re trading Tyler hero tooer Duncan Robinson Jimmy Butler Larry marinin and Bam and so you’ve got Jimmy and Bam and real floor spacing around those three I think it’s a really good team I think it’s much better than what is last year I don’t think Larry marinin is your number one scorer that would be my issue he’s not a guy that you’re running your offense through he’s more a guy that you’re running your offense to yes and I and unless ter Roser is healthy and ready to kind of be the pick and roll fulcrum of the offense with bam I don’t know how much closer that gets you to the Boston the Milwaukee and potentially what Philadelphia becomes next year no you probably still need another trade in order to get you that point yeah I don’t know I don’t know if that trade exists you’d still have Off the Bench you’d have what Kime Kevin Love that’s about it right I mean and then whatever other veterans they add this season and two-way players that you have currently on the roster draft picks I that’s a good team like there is a chance they could upset a Boston but if you’re talking about the last couple Seasons not being the the kind of success or the recipe that you want to continue to follow because it it B it Banks too much on you know being able to capitalize on somebody else’s lack of health or something along those lines you’re not going to get out of the playing tournament necessarily with that roster especially again if you keep Jimmy on the team and knowing that he’ll probably going to miss time could I I like that team to get out of the plan but it could be a fifth it would be they would have to be healthier I think this team I don’t think this team was a playing tournament team this past season if they weren’t so banged up no you’re right agree there and I do think that the heat are generally always injured but they were even more injured than they usually are this past season so um no but it doesn’t to your point it does not answer the question of who’s the number one scorer on this offense you can’t just look at the points per game stuff you have to go beyond that who am I running the offense for what is our identity on the offense and if your identity on offense doesn’t really change cuz even if you get marinin I don’t think it changes all that much I just think that you’re replacing your okay Shooters and your young players with a better version of that in marinin I don’t think you’re changing much of your identity on offense whereas that’s why you’re going after a guy like Donovan Mitchell because you said you could say with Donovan here’s the rock the offense is yours pick and roll do whatever you think you need to do get the screen get into isolation that’s our IDE identity on offense now with Lowry I think that’s not he’s not an off offensive identity necessarily so you would have to still find that in some way as much of an upgrade that marinin might be now is there a world where you can trade Jimmy Butler and get Larry Marin in and fast forward into the BAM timeline we’ll talk about that next year on locked on heat thanks again for making lock on heat your first listen every day make sure you’re subscribed on YouTube and on your favorite podcast app so hypothetically if they heat are forced to trade Jimmy Butler because they don’t want to sign the extension and uh Jimmy wants to go sign it somewhere else they don’t have the assets currently to get Larry Markin in and AD Donovan Mitchell or something like that but if they were to trade Jimmy theoretically at least you could double your asset base essentially and maybe you do somehow stumble upon the stuff that you need to go get I I don’t think they would have enough to get marinin and Donovan Mitchell that seems a little far-fetched to me but marinin and dejon de Murray or something like that potentially well like assuming you trade Jimmy you know not not the theoretical trade that we’re going to be discussing but let’s say the one to Philadelphia that’s been tossed about three first round three first round picks back yeah that that plus whatever whomever is left on the roster and whatever is left on the roster I don’t know if that’s enough to facilitate both those trades and knowing a guy like AE he’s probably again you’re you’re gonna outbid you’re gonna have to outbid whatever other suitors come calling and knowing age I don’t know that he’s going to be you know we’ll hear later on that he was this close to accepting a deal or something like that but I don’t know that he’s necessarily going to look at Miami’s roster of assets and be like yeah okay no this is what exactly what I want in order to give you a player that that helps you out yeah the good thing about Marin again he’s only under contract for $18 million so from a salary matching purpose yeah that’s why you’d have to you’d have to increase like draft collateral and young players yeah that would be to give could hypothetically swap Duncan Robinson and three first round picks now that doesn’t get it done we know that but um and still at least have the Tyler hero salary to include in a Donovan Mitchell trade over there maybe and if it’s only one of the young players I do wonder if you could trade Jimmy Butler get three first round picks take those three first round picks plus Duncan Robinson plus niika yic send that to Utah for marinin again I don’t I I still don’t think that that’s quite enough to get it done based on what some of these competitive offers might be but it is a competitive offer and then you get uh and then does Lowry do the whole like hey I’m not sign an extension unless it’s Miami thing I did see him walking around Brickle when the Jazz are in town for whatever that’s worth with some friends so he does like to walk around the city um I think most players do right I’m trying so that and then you take your current three first round picks that don’t come from the Jimmy Butler trade the three picks that Miami can already deal including the one coming up later this month you would take those three first round picks plus tyah hero plus hakz the other young player which that’s already the Donovan Mitchell package right that would be the way to do it again I still don’t think it’s enough for Lowry but if we’re if we’re just going to fully just go all in and fan dream about this that would be the way to get it done I mean you’re talking about the right front officite do it like they they’ve taken young players that that have come to Miami and and and been like you know what that’s okay we we like somebody else met it they’ve thought big they’ll do a number of Trades like that it’s all about rejiggering the off the the roster completely I wouldn’t be well I can’t say I wouldn’t be surprised but if a team that’s going to be able to do it or is willing to do it I absolutely think Miami would be there like you know what putt next year whatever we weren’t going to beat some of the best teams we were going to rely on luck anyway no matter how good playoff Jimmy might be but we can kind of reset it and next thing you know you’re Fielding a team of Donovan Mitchell Lori Markin and and bamama and that’s a hell of a good team like that’s a really gam that team wins more games in the regular season than the team the last two years no doubt about it yes because you got players who are available and out there and doing things now I don’t know and you still have what Rosier and love on the roster yeah basic I mean you have it’s an expensive it’s a very expensive roster that you would have to fill out with vets and and second round picks and all that kind of stuff but it’s a base for sort of the original question that is those are that’s a three those are three players who complement each other really really well now how do you build around that I don’t really know you’re basically you’re only you only have a first- round pick every other year for the next six years essentially if you make that deal I don’t know um all right deal Rosier to Portland for Jeremy Grant and round out that that back court there or the front Court rather with bab marinin and uh and Grant I don’t see Portland doing that but you could to your point you could trade Rosier like closer to the deadline and redistribute that salary and try to fill some depth than fill some other places on the roster um all right you want to do the fake trade yeah let’s so this was proposed by Bleacher Report um where we’re getting a lot of these ideas from the heat get jayen green Dylan Brooks and the third overall pick and the rockets get Jimmy Butler and the 15th pick that the Heat have later this month in the draft what do you think do we have a a buzzer or anything like that something that that yeah that’s the best I could do is just oh that yes uh the idea of including a th pick like we talked about it before we started recording I think what it shows like a realistic understanding of Miami’s assets or whatever trade they might be involved in and the idea is like you’re acquiring a younger player with star potential and as such you would probably have to give up some draft collateral at least that’s the way Bleacher Report sees it uh Grant is a good writer and a guy who’s been doing this for a long time so he’s seen a lot he’s put a lot of these trades out there and it you know I I can see why it makes sense I just don’t like it from Miami side of things like I I just if you’re looking at this from the heat you’re giving up your franchise player or at least your Cornerstone right now and giving up a good a better draft pick for a player that could pan out and I I actually like the idea of Jaylen Green in Miami because I think if you’re gonna if there’s a team that’s gonna maximize what he can do I think it’s Miami at the same time it would have to be part of another trade where you don’t have him and Tyler on the same roster because I don’t think those yeah there would definitely be a second trade after this You’ have to move on from hero some way um now now if you’re shipping hero to Utah for marketing plus all I still don’t know how I mean you would have the number three pick now to play with right where it’s like okay we didn’t have stuff before Utah but are you interested in the number three pick in this draft they probably say no not really and they’ be like all right cool good talk and uh you go for but you could at least theoretically take that third overall pick and trade somewhere else if this is the package that if you just include the Cavs as a third team and you just take this stuff and move it to Cleveland for Donovan Mitchell I’m all in that’s okay with me uh again if you have to move on from Jimmy Butler obviously the best case scenario is you have Jimmy Mitchell and Bam but if Jimmy Butler is forced to get traded somewhere else and you’re able to take this package and move it to Cleveland or to another team for a star then that makes sense to me a little bit more but Jaylen green I actually like Dylan Brooks a lot for this roster I think he makes a lot of sense as a two-way guy I would be intrigued by having the third pick in this draft that to me would be interesting at least be surprised you’d be surprised at the number of Heat fans that shouldn’t have much stake in this who really seemed to be upset with the the notion of Dylan Brooks I think his reputation is a lot worse like Memphis fans cameraman in Miami people don’t like Dylan Brooks he’s one of those guys that once he’s on your team then you like him and then when he’s not 28 other cities hate him but guess what he’s pretty popular in Memphis and he’s pretty popular in Houston the problem with Jaylen green is he’s 22 and he’s not a point guard he’s a scoring guard he needs somebody to set him up he doesn’t set up other players very well he’s got potential he can become that player but if we’re building around the BAM atab bio timeline that’s a little bit too young Bam’s 26 he’s been in the finals twice the dude’s been around Jaylen green has just gotten into he’s still got his training wheels on in the NBA you know what I mean and so that that to me is going a little bit too far backwards you’re going from Trading your 35-year-old Superstar and Jimmy Butler to a 22-year-old maybe could become something one day in Jaylen green are you out on green I’m not out on green as a player at all I actually quite like him I think his athleticism is one of one I and the heat can use like a top 1% athlete but as a 22-year-old on this roster yes I’m out I’m out on Jaylen green as a fit for this roster because the other part about that too is you would eventually need him to be your point guard because you can’t play him with another small guard unless that small guard is somebody like Marcus SM or L Dort or something like or Fred Van no because we saw yeah we saw that and didn’t work out well with Van VY like they they could not coexist I think he offensively but defensively is my concern like offensively you’re going to have to this guy’s gonna have to grow no matter what defensively you’re already small but um I could see that and you’re already small like when we talked about positional SI with bam how much smaller can you get like if you did this trade for instance you would have what Terry Rosier Jaylen green haime hakz junor Nik yovic and Bam you’re smaller than you were last year yeah you know so it’s I I don’t know if that’s necessarily the guy uh here can can Jaylen green and Bam atab bio develop like a sabonis Darren Fox joic Murray pick and roll chemistry perhaps but man the guy’s 22 like how much long like how long of this this wi what do we really what’s the timeline now like 3 four five years from now I thought the idea was if you’re going to trade Jimmy Butler you want to try to keep the window at least open over these next couple years or or open it over the next couple years and if you’re able to get somebody like Don Mitchell that makes a lot more sense um I also hate the fact that the Heat have to give up their 15th pick in this trade I don’t that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me you’re only getting really one and a half blue chip things back for your star player and Jimmy Butler and uh I don’t think that you have to include the 15th pick I actually would disagree that you even need to include it in a deal like this that said grade the trade what do you give it D giving in an F yeah I was I was thinking you’ve been a little harsher than I have on these but yeah I don’t I think uh I was kind of hovering you know what I’ll go D minus give me that little bit of hope that doesn’t can I give you a counter proposal yes let’s say the Rockets call Pat Riley said we’ll give you Jaylen green the number three pick and Dylan Brooks for Butler in the 15th pick P says you’re not getting the 15th pick rock say okay we’ll do the same trade no 15th pick and then uh Pat Ry still like no here’s a count on offer Dylan Brooks because you need a salary Stephen Adams on an expiring $12 million contract again you just need the salary I actually don’t even think this trade technically works I do think you need like a jock lale $8 million salary in here to make it work I like landale I like landale all right th we still throw him in the trade landale Stephen Adams Dylan Brooks and you get another one of the young guys let’s call it tar een I think that’s kind of a no-brainer then like you kind of have to take it like if if you were a team that was under before now yeah yeah I think Miami would like I think they’d have to I would probably give that and you get some draft collateral as well um yeah maybe not the third pick in this draft but maybe a future protected top seven something or another I think Miami would do it I think if again this is coming from the the the standpoint of Jimmy Butler is not getting the extension here and now we’re shopping it would hurt but it’s it might be a little bit better than even unless depending on whether Donovan Mitchell is available or not and you want those three first- round picks for Philadelphia but you send them to the other conference you get some immediate things back that you could build around some good players I’m really high on tar een he was injured basically all of last season and was sort of the Forgotten young guy in Houston I’m really high on him as a player so um it wouldn’t be Jabari right if you could get Jabari then it’s a done deal to me I think you would have to ask for Jabari and maybe settle or you would ask for Jabari or a Thompson twin and then you wouldn’t I keep forgetting which one is which so I just hedge and then uh and I think it’s a assar no it’s a man it’s a men in in Houston um you would ask for that and then if if you can get one of them that’s what you would do so I don’t know yep yeah that makes sense what about that second uh trade idea uh from the New York Knicks oh yeah in the same post he had uh you trade back from 15 and New York has the 24th and 25th picks in this draft because of a trade they made uh so you would trade back from 15 the Knicks would move up to 15 and you would get their 24th and 25th picks and then a future second rounder you like that one I do I do I think Miami would have to include a second rounder though that’s how it was broken down on the on leacher report but okay aside from that second round pick uh I do like the idea because we talked about this in our blue notebook episode yesterday like if there’s a draft where the talent of this it’s all over the place and so impossible to gauge that I think pick number three could be just as productive as pick number 25 and if that’s the case why not trade down you get two picks another opportunity to build your roster add cheap players on a nice friendly contract and that might be your best chance of getting Young talent because you’re not going to be able to in any other case other than you know again the the recipe that they follow the last couple Seasons which is to get somebody as a two-way player and hope that they pan out because they bought into our system and they devel they’ve developed that might not necessarily be the case for say Cole schwier or you know somebody like that so I don’t know if you can get young two young players in the drafts instead of or three if you include the 43rd pick if you can include get three young players in this draft instead of just two I don’t see why you wouldn’t do that especially in this draft where it doesn’t really feel like the difference between 15 and the 30th best player is very big and unless so I would say unless the guy that you really really want right if there if Devin Carter who does just make a lot of sense for Miami isn’t there at 15 and you’re sitting there you’re like I don’t know Tristan de Silva like we like him we’re not excited by him let’s just move back in the draft get the 24th and 25th picks the Knicks can move up and go get whoever it is that they’re targeting and and do I wouldn’t be opposed I just I would be surprised if Miami Mo moved back as historically they don’t but maybe this is the draft where they do you know you never know and to your point and it’s a great one two rookies in this draft is just probably better than one and um the other part of it too is are two first round picks more valuable like two at the end of the first round picks more valuable than the 15th pick in a potential trade could be another way to look at this too so I don’t know inter um all right that’ll do it for us today thanks for making 1. Unfortunately you can’t win a championship if one of your max players is a defense first player.

  2. Bam NOT ELITE SCORER

RINGS are all about ELITE SCORING

Hero does NOT play D and he never will
He is a 1 way play
if Hero is is not scoring well he is useless ….. 6th man ….. he gets cold ? PULL HIM

  3. Mikal Bridges > Lauri. Lauri is a looter in a riot & Mikal is a 2-way player who has done it in the Finals… Jovic will be better than Lauri long term anyway

Lauri is just like Rozier… a good player only on a bad team… a mid player on a good team..

If your starting point guard is Rozier… you’re just a bad team & if your prize acquisition is Lauri… you’re a bad team

  4. It’s amazing how little you guys know about basketball. Look at the teams in the Finals. Bam would be the Third option at best on Either team. And you guys want to build around a guy like that.

  5. Bam outs up about 20 points a game if he was first option he would could score more obviously he would take more shots expanding his range
