Dray tonight: “I always tell people, championships are won 6 through 10…so it’s just on us to shore up what our 6 to 10 looks like. I think we still got a small window to make something happen & I know this org will honor Steph, myself, & Klay in giving us every chance they can to help us win.”

Context for this quote and clip:

Dray did a post-Game 1 live pod with Danny Green, of all people lol, tonight (he was surprisingly a cool, chill guest tbh) and Danny said that he definitely thought we still had it in us to contend again with our core and asked Dray what he thought the Warriors needed to do this off season to get back into contention.

The issue isn’t just with 6-10 it’s with 2-5. Wiggs was supposed to be the #2 after 2022 but has regressed and has not played even close to that role. Klay has a few games of looking good and smart shot making before he starts forcing and making bad team plays. Draymond is still valuable as a playmaker and defensive anchor but he’s old and is not reliable to play every game or play with the team’s interest over his own emotions. The rest of the team is guard heavy or too small for their role in matchups. Steve Kerr is too emotionally invested in his relationships with the core that he would rather lose the game than bench dray or Klay and play the young guys.

Ultimately, I don’t think we’ll win again with Kerr coaching and the core and not gaining size, defense, or young scorers who develop and get actual minutes.

The west is getting better every season and I see our roster at bottom 5 or 6 until we reset after the Steph era

The problem with our 6-10 is that they’re currently playing as our 3-7.

The real issue was we didn’t identify who our 1-5 was really at any point in the year. Wiggins looked mentally checked out until too late in the season, klay slumped but still felt like a starter by the end of the season. Looney, the goat, looked like he was 40 all of a sudden. Podz can’t start because him and Steph are too small, Kuminga should take wiggs starting spot just out of respect for his upside, and trayce looks like he is the heir apparent to looney, with a vertical over 15 inches. I think the starters end up being Steph, Klay, Kuminga, dray, and trayce to start next season. Then we try to keep cp3, podz, wiggs, Gary. And try to move looney 🙁 and Moodey+picks for a backup big. Like a real big, that doesn’t have to play much but is there for certain matchups. Maybe we pry Steven Adams away from Memphis for the discount because he’s been broken. Or we sell the farm and go for Markanen with Kuminga, looney, moodey, and picks. I don’t know if that works but that’s the win now move.

I mean hes right, realistically the gap between most playoff teams starters is pretty small, the championships contenders usually have real bench depth while the non contenders dont

Hear me out. Bob m comes back in some role and helps retool the lineup.

  6. He’s really not wrong considering we ended the season with half the roster having less than 4 years of NBA experience.

  7. They also need a better assistant coach who can offset Kerr’s thinking. He has not been good since Mike left.

Start with a reliable 2. Until then its our 2-15 that needs work.
