Reggie Miller Reacts To Reports The Lakers Are Targeting UConn’s Dan Hurley | 6/6/24

Danny Hurley to the Lakers question mark and your reaction is uh I like this coming out of left field for the Lakers I think uh the prevailing thought and from what everyone’s been talking about in Reading is that it was what JJ rdick to lose right and I kind of like the outside the box thinking from the Lakers here on Dan Hurley look the landscape of college basketball as we’ve known over the last few years has changed because of nil and I could see a lot of these coaches that are the upper tier starting to look at the NBA a little bit because of the changes you know coming down in college athletics I think this would be a great a fantastic hire for the Lakers if you could get a chance to get Dan Hurley because to me not only is he a great ex as and those guy but he is a development of men and if you watch any of their practices and see how they play their offense and their defense is a lot like a pro offense and you’ve got to be able to find players that number one are smart enough to be able to run it I think it would be a great hire if Dan Hurley is now I don’t know if he’s looking for a bigger pay cut or or bigger payday from Yukon like using this as leverage but if he is serious about coaching at the highest level which is the the NBA game this would be a fantastic leap for him he has nothing else to prove in college back-to-back Champions at Yukon so he doesn’t have anything to prove anymore the next step for him would be and how about this your first gig in a pro would be the Lakers yeah I mean come on now and coaching LeBron and AD why not okay what’s the downside it’s the Lakers and with that comes a lot of scrutiny every single practice every single game every single press conference becomes a big thing because number one you’re on the clock because you’re on the clock because it’s a countdown to the end of LeBron’s career he’s probably going to retire a Laker so that takes a life and a meaning of its own um but again there’s there’s there’s always more plus- siiz because you’re playing for a franchise with 16 17 banners hanging in the rafters with all those Hall of Fame jerseys hanging up there as well that you can rely on to me there’s more pluses um I’m sure a lot of people in left field will be like he has no NBA experience what is he doing this is gonna be uh Rick patino and John kipari all over again maybe they’re right maybe so but I I just think Dan Hurley would be a fantastic fit for the Lakers what Dan Hurley be better for bronny James or Lebron James maybe both look it’s no secret the Lakers in the second round have what the 50th 52nd pick something like that I think yeah okay um and LeBron has made no secret that he wants to play with his son I think you can achieve both here as well as get Dan Hurley um again but this is all about the bigger the big James as opposed to the smaller James okay but would you have a problem as an established veteran if Indiana would have brought in a college coach like Brad Stevens would have left Butler let’s say at the height of when he was there at Butler and took over the Pacers how would that go over with you Mark Jackson the Davis brothers Rick Smiths uh if Brad Stevens would have had two championships behind him I mean you can’t fault what Dan Hurley has done and I think having those two back-to-back ships uh and the success he’s had at Yukon I think that gives him a little bit of a little bit of a cache if you’re coming into the Lakers and again if you if you watch Yukon if you watch them playing you watch their offense it is very sophisticated and I think it’s next level and I think that could be applied to LeBron and AD and moving forward can you explain that though reg because I likened it to the triangle offense that Phil had that he had to get his players to buy in in Chicago and La I don’t know what this Reincarnation of NBA offense is what exactly is Dan Hurley uh teaching that can translate to the NBA well his offense is a lot from the European teams he went over to Europe and really stole a lot of their offense it’s a lot of cutting moving the ball doesn’t stick um and what what I think and how it can be applied and be great for the Lakers is that you are going to be putting your two best players LeBron and ad with a shot clock running down you’re going to put them in actions to be successful and it it’s a lot like as you mentioned the triangle where it starts on one side but your two players have so much influence when the ball comes back to them them being able to make a quick decision which LeBron and AD do and being able to score in traffic and make plays for others now they will have to do a little bit more with the roster because they’re going have to find a little bit more shooting that’s something that the Lakers haven’t had over the last few years they’ve got to find better shooting and probably an established point guard to help run this offense as well

  1. The Lakers biggest problem is they DON'T move around on offense. They got all these dudes just standing around looking at LeBron. It's just painful to watch compared to the elite offenses.

  2. The Lakers are not patient enough to allow Dan to really build a team. I think this would be a disaster! He should stay in UCONN!

  3. ….we're going to draft your son 17th, so STFU and sign this extension while acting like a damn grown man while your son watchesâ™ȘJeanie Buss still signs your checks, or you can have a nice journey with Dynomite JJ on another teamâ™Ș

  4. NBA players can get a coach fired, NCAA players can't. Especially now. We've seen winning coaches get fired often in the NBA recently.

  5. START THE REBUILD! WE'VE PEAKED IN THE BUBBLE! LEBRON ADMIRABLE AS HE'S PLAYED IS DONE! AD INJURY FREE FINALLY & PLAYED ELITE & WERE STILL A PLAY IN TEAM! BLOW IT UP 💣 START OVER! YES WE'LL STRUGGLE FOR SOME TIME! BUT WELL BE BACK ON TOP AT SOME POINT! HELL WE'RE THE FU–ING LAKERS!

  6. Why are you still pushing the bronny narrative, el floppenheimer is clown đŸ€Ą show enough. Bronny is no asset.

  7. Dan Hurley is a TRUE Coach that likes to play OFF BALL MOVEMENT BASKETBALL. What makes Lebron simps think this is good for LEBRON LOL ITS GREAT FOR LAKERS but for Lebron, it means less time with the ball in his hands and less chances for him to fill in his empty stats. He ain't staying if Dan is hired.

  8. Hurley is the coach the Lakers need. Experienced and the best available out there. Lakers need to build a culture moving past Lebron. They can't afford to get a JJ and keep changing coaches every two/three years. The franchise has to have consistency over the years and start thinking life post Lebron. I hope it becomes reality. That would be a solid move.

  9. If lakers hire this guy cool I get it do some different and risky .. but also understand that you wanna do this with a young team like they had when they Lonzo Hart Clarkson Ingram Randle Nance Kuzma Zubac young squad .. this current team is old and aging by the second .. getting him thinking he’s gonna be able to turn it around with Lebron AD plus let’s say even a Donovan Mitchell won’t be enough to host a 1st round playoff series .. do this if u know Lebrons era is ending sooner than later ..if you wanna draft Bronny in 2nd round or bring him in jus to please lebron and get another 2 1st round exits and make money then don’t even attempt to re start the culture movement cuz it ain’t it

  10. His schemes at UConn are ridiculous. If he can manage the massive NBA egos in the locker room, this will be amazing.

  11. Hurley should stay where he is. He's a college coach. He just coached UConn to two national championships. He's in charge there. If he goes to the Lakers, he has to kiss Lebron's ass. He can't scream and yell at NBA players like he did all the time in college. He has a temper! That won't fly in the NBA.

  12. This could well be a worthwhile gamble for the Lakers. It makes little sense for Hurley. You take over that hot mess of a team with 40 yo LeBron and his no offense son? Good luck firing or trading Bronny . You set Hurley up for failure. I guess if he wants 7 million for a one year or 2 job and goes back to Connecticut it might work.

  13. Good luck thinking LeBron is going to listen to or respect a college coach. If you think LeBron is cutting and moving without the ball at this stage of his career you are outta your mind.
