Here are the reasons why the Boston Celtics' 2024 playoff run to the Finals shouldn't count:
1. In the first round, the Celtics defeated an injured Miami Heat team that was without Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kevin Love, and Josh Richardson, who is Miami's best perimeter defender and bench scorer.
2. In the second round against the Cleveland Cavaliers, they defeated an injured Cleveland team that was without their best player, superstar Donovan Mitchell, who missed games three, four, and five. Also missing was Cleveland's center, Jarrett Allen, who was their best defender in the paint, shot blocker, and rebounder.
3. Finally, the Celtics defeated an injured Indiana Pacers team that was without their two best players, Tyrese Haliburton, who missed games three and four, and Bennedict Mathurin, who is their best scorer besides Haliburton and Siakam, who was also out for the series.
The 2024 Celtics arguably had the easiest playoff run to the Finals in NBA history since Michael Jordan's weak competition in the 1990s in the weak Eastern Conference with the Bulls' superteam. The 2024 Celtics will likely be remembered as the 2024 "Mickey Mouse" hospital fluke champions.
