Is this at all realistic (Towns to MEM speculation)? Not sure how I feel about it

I think I get the idea. Playing alongside a DPOY who is also at least somewhat credible as a floor spacer in Jaren is probably the only way KAT can ever be a core member of a championship team.

He provides defensive rebounding, passing, 1v1 post defense against big guys, and screen setting probably in the ballpark of what Adams gave us. Worse offensive rebounding and rim protection than Adams but compensates with great scoring and shooting ability.

The idea of some deadly 5-out twin Tower offense that can also defend is tantalizing. And any package that doesn't include Ja, Jaren, or Bane is, at least, a non-non-starter (the article referenced by the author puts forward Smart, Kennard, Clarke, and our first as a starting point, and mentions "probably more draft capital" is needed).

Otoh, KAT bothers me as a player. His defensive shortcomings are mind-boggling for a player with that kind of length and relatively decent feet for his size. I feel like he is just a low IQ player. He also seems to get worse in big moments and can be tough to play over "worse" players at times. For instance, I felt the Wolves were generally better off going with Kyle Anderson or Naz Reid in that Mavs series.

He is also pretty expensive, I'm not sure if it's really feasible to afford him as part of our core going forward.

Thoughts?

I just can’t imagine how the money could ever work and I know nothing about that

KAT is not the right player for this city. I feel like we would rip him apart just like we did Pau. Both super skilled players that if you just go by the numbers are/were amazing. The personalities of these types of guys just don’t fit with the city.

His biggest flaw is rebounding. The Grizzlies need a rebounder. Pass.

I think it looks good on paper, and when he’s on we would be unstoppable… but he’s too inconsistent to be counted on and he played like crap when it did count.

You would give up too much for him and his contract his horrible. So basically No

Been saying all season KAT will be in Memphis. Nobody believes me and I barely believe myself, but it’s going to happen.
