[NBA University] Tatum passed out of 61.1% (!) of his drives last night… He only passed out of 25.2% of his drives this season. DAL was collapsing hard on Tatum. He also passed out of a couple drives that could’ve been rim FGA. Monitoring if DAL continues to schematically prefer Tatum passing.

Teams have been overloading on Jayson Tatum all postseason and collapsing hard on his drives, especially Miami and Cleveland. Despite this, the Celtics have a 123.09 ORTG with him on the court and a 105.94 ORTG with him off the court this postseason. He hasn't been statistically dominant, but he's been able to make teams pay for reacting to his scoring gravity, especially when he gets a mismatch.

Mavs have packed the paint every single series. It’s nice to finally see them get punished

Tatum shoots like 72% at the rim right? Boston is so tough to guard because there isn’t an obvious guy you can help off of.

I guess Mavs are forcing the Cs to beat them with 3PT shooting which is high variance. Tatum needs to be more aggressive soon.

  4. I am more than happy to have them keep this up, especially if Porzingis stays healthy

He was getting beat up on a lot of those drives. I’m surprised he didn’t get to the line more, but you could tell the officials were letting them play

Hope they do it all series. I’m fine with JT not scoring when he can easily get assists to the 4 guys Mavs are leaving open

One of the worst defensive teams I’ve ever watched

Like I dont think it’s a winning strategy. Giving 40% three point shooter open threes isn’t sustainable

  8. A smart, and unselfish superstar. We love to see it💚

That’s why people saying Tatum (and Brown) not having a good game don’t know what they’re talking about. Tatum was controlling the whole offense

Mavs finally playing a team that they have to guard more than one guy gonna be interesting how they adjust on both ends next game ♟️

  11. Tatum should average 30 while being doubled or tripled whenever he steps inside the 3 point line instead of passing the ball to wide open 3 point shooters according to casuals here

They did this against Ant and Kat. They wanted them to shoot for threes rather than easy buckets and layup. Clearly they didn’t expected for Porzingis to come out on fire. What’s worrisome is Tatum played substandard and I don’t think Porzingis can be as consistent as game 1. They didn’t seemed to have a good answer for him and he kept exploiting mismatches in the 1st half.

An all around star that knows how his team would have a better chance of winning. He will never not be the talking point of all the “top 5” simps but Boston fans who have been watching him for years know what he brings to the table

Considering he had 6 turnovers I think they’ll live with Tatum passing

  15. IMKudaimi123

They’re gonna have to match Washington/DJJ onto him and never switch. Give them more chance to avoid fully collapsing onto him.

Didn’t work at all. Game 2 Mavs are going to make Tatum beat them on those drives. The wide open three-pointers for the Celtics were a surprise to me. Terrible perimeter defense.

  17. Mavs offense was the issue really. Holding the Celtics to 107 isn’t bad.

  18. Tbf, if they pressure Tatum less, then it’d be a 30 pt game for him. If I’m dallas, I’ll keep the same gameplan on defense. Just focus on retooling their offense because it sucks. Hunting Sam and PP for isolation on offense is not it.

The Mavs would be better off not doing that.
