  1. JJ Redick is super pompous and arrogant. I’ve actually met him before and know people who hang out with him

  2. 2023_account_

I feel like a lot of people, especially the ones who are on the internet a ton, just can’t handle someone being confident in their opinions and style.

Like, I’ve never listened to or watched JJ’s stuff and thought he was condescending. He’s just confident in what he thinks and he says it.

I think it says more about those people than JJ, in my opinion.

  3. MasterTeacher123

You can be really smart about the game, without being a good basketball HC in the nba. There are countless fired coaches in history who were “smart”

  4. John Fanta sharing his opinions under the guise of “Lakers Players” lol, dude doesn’t know anything.

  5. Fanta and the host are implying the Lakers

    – were closing in on Redick, paused because of the aspect mentioned in the title
    – *asked Woj*, hey do you know if there’s anyone else out there
    – Woj (driven in part by his strong relationship with the Hurley family), floats the idea of coaching the Lakers to Dan Hurley
    – Lakers get tied to Hurley

but Woj has been saying Hurley was the target all along. this suggests Shams wasnt BSing, but Woj power-brokered a way to get Hurley in when he saw an opportunity

  6. raylan_givens6

JJ does give off that vibe

If he wants to seriously be a HC, he needs to start as an assistant

He probably thinks he’s entitled to skip the line , but having a podcast and his career isn’t the juice he thinks it is

Especially when there are other candidates like Sam Cassell , a former player who won titles, put in long years as an assistant on successful teams under different HCs, who wouldn’t be learning on the job.

I get some people view NBA coaching as a joke , especially compared to NFL coaching, but it shouldn’t be that big of a joke.

  7. Eric_T_Meraki

The only voice that matters is Woj since he broke the story.

  8. WallStreetDoesntBet

Lakers need an experienced coach to handle superstars like LBJ and AD

  9. imDaGoatnocap

Woj looks a lot different than how he usually looks

  10. dennidits

JJ just here not saying a word, and his name is first being prop up and now dragged through the mud.. while he’s not doing anything..

  11. sully9614

the Lakers are asking for serious input from Adrian Wojnarowski on whether or not a potential candidate would be interested in the job? Regardless of his relationship with the family, I have a hard time believing they’d need Woj to figure that out for themselves

  12. HurricaneRon

“A lakers player, or 2, or 3”. The lack of effort in this bullshit is comical.

  13. Lake_Shore_Drive

I’m imagining NBA JJ Reddick mansplaining hoops to opposing players from the bench.

  14. ObiOneKenobae

The amount of personal offense being taken to JJ potentially, just potentially, getting a head coach job is hilarious.

  15. There will soon be two Laker players named LeBron James.

  16. cmaddox428

“Former NAB role player starts podcast and is suddenly qualified to be a coach. Players don’t want him”

    There that’s the headline.

  17. As a spurs fan i REALLY wanted to see the lakers hire JJ

  18. WindjammerX

I thought Jason Kidd was kinda like that early in his coaching days. I think he really settled into being a good coach now.

  19. BigMik_PL

Again I can’t stress enough how everything JJ says or his entire analysis is very standard run of the mill shit every assistant to assistant coach knows/does.

It just made it look better compared to Stephen A Smith yelling random hot takes at the camera or neutered watered versions of analysis people like Jeff Van Gundy are forced to say on air so they don’t scare off viewers (just look how they already neutered Tony Romo).

The fact an NBA team actually seriously considered Reddick is fucking hilarious. It’s like Captain Kirk getting hired as head of NASA because he did a great job in Star Trek.

  20. 100wordanswer

I still don’t buy that JJ was ever realistically a target

  21. trumpxoxobiden

Did JJ Reddick lowkey get called a douchebag

  22. matticans7pointO

If this story is true then it had to be AD right? He’s the only guy besides LeBron with any pull when it comes to our head coach and JJ left him off both his All-Defence teams.

  23. lxkandel06

There are three different levels of quotations in this quote and it’s tripping me up

  24. DowngoezFrasier215

These the type of people yall listen to?

  25. dasaniAKON

I’d be interested to see if they go with Hurley, and he asks JJ to be an assistant.

  26. Saucemixer9000

John Fanta with a very fitting last name lol.

  27. Dlearious88

Who tf is John Fanta? Looks like a reliable source /s

  28. dividerall

does this guy seem like the type of guy that a Lakers player would have in their entourage and leak opinions like that too lmao this guy can barely form a sentence

  29. Definitely get the smarter than you vibe from Redick, guy knows his stuff but definitely can have a condescending tone

  30. These 2 dudes looks like Josh Gad split himself into 2 different people

  31. LocustUprising

Lot of talk coming from a dude named after a soda

  32. Bookstorm2023

What if JJ’s interview went terrible and he was at the bottom of the list? These last few weeks have been all speculation. We just got to wait for Bron to discuss this on his podcast.

  33. I don’t disagree with this at all, but have they seen Dan Hurley in action?

Not only does he have zero coaching or playing experience in the NBA, but the way he interacts with his players will 100% not work with professionals. He’s obviously super successful, but so were Urban Meyer and Chip Kelly, both of which had MAJOR issues adapting to coaching rich and famous grown men and not college kids.

JJ has a MUCH better chance of identifying and gaining the respect of NBA players than Dan Hurley does, IMO.

  34. WesternPoison

Also J.J. isn’t smart at all so it’s gonna make things even worse

  35. ValuableAssociate8

LeBron nor AD deserved to be coached by anyone they whooped in the NBA.

  36. Holiday-Patient5929

A large part of coaching at that level isnt just about the x and os (which JJ certainly understands) it’s also about the emotional intelligence and working the refs through players making the minor adjustments when necessary.  Which Ham couldn’t do especially late games in the playoffs when Bron was clearly gassed but wouldn’t sit.  It opened Soo many back door cuts.  Passed two years they had a championship caliber roster, but needed a kerr or ty lue to get them through the adjustments you’d need to make.

There was the play in game against the pelicans where the Lakers were foul hunting and the refs let them play, so ham told them to match force with force and Zion broke like glass.  When facing the nuggets both years.  Ham got out coached in particular with the rotations he called and an over reliance on James, Davis and dlo.  When it’s not working you have to make certain adjustments like draymond lobs and instigation

  37. RowBoatCop36

Whole lotta people in here who apparently have met JJ, or even played with him and experienced his demeanor in the locker room and on the court. Weird, because this is Reddit.

Having said that, when I was on the Pels with him, he was really nice. Even paid for the Zimas we would order together when we’d go out and do karaoke.

  38. EezehhLoL

Dogshit, lazy, uninspired “journalist” hacks. Will never respect these people.

  39. green_and_green23

This isn’t reporting, it’s just spreading rumours
