series I’m predicting a six to seven game series the thing is both teams are capable of winning defensive control low scoring out the mud type of games but also they’re capable of exploding for 60 points in one half today I will just go over my thoughts and questions heading into this finals matchup so first off the Mavericks defense will be tested to see if they are actually legit legit I say that because the Mavericks Pathway to the finals they have faced a unhealthy Clippers team but other than that they beat two Elite teams but those teams had glaring offensive holes talking about OKC in Minnesota overall you can really load up on their star players make it as difficult as possible on Anthony Edwards and Shay and get away with making life very difficult for them to produce Shay handled it very very well having an insane Series so Props to him but Anthony Edwards went from shooting 50% in his first two rounds to 43% how the Celtics handle the rim protection of the Dallas Mavericks will be a big swing factor in my opinion because Gafford and especially Derek Lively have been sealing off the paint all postseason season basically the Maverick’s dumb down game plan was to funnel the ball to suspect Shooters such as ludor and Josh giddy or jayen McDaniels or just ignore offensive liabilities and take advantage of their weaknesses like Rudy goar rolling to the rim they really didn’t care since he has offensive limitations they have been living with the role players getting opportunities against the Celtics it’s more likely you will get torched since every player they have in the lineup is a threat to shoot or score and nobody’s fourth option is better than Derek white at those opportunities the Mavericks haven’t faced an offense like Boston in terms of the amount of weapons and consistency especially if porzingis comes back relatively healthy and the thing is the Mavericks have gotten cooked as well by certain role players in certain games because their defense results in them getting great looks for instance Nas Reed had 23 points in game two Jayden McDaniels had 24 points in game one Aaron Wiggins had 16 points off the bench for the Thunder in game one they haven’t faced the team with willing quick trigger Shooters at all five positions so as a result they’ve been really benefiting off loading up on the star players like ant and Shay now one thing I will say is Boston has been running suspect bench lineups with paid and Pritchard Sam Hower Luke cornette at times and they’ve been getting away with it because the Cavaliers were banged up the heat were banged up and then the Pacers were ultimately banged up those bench players like P Pritchard and Hower they’re very good players but I did not like Joe maou’s lineup combinations with the bench at times and Derek Lively look at his plus minus he comes off the bench for the Mavericks if Joe moula decides to do those weird bench lineups it’s not going to be pretty for Boston at time because Derrik Lively arguably has been the third most impactful player for the Mavericks this postseason I will also say Luca and Kyrie have been very good defensively all playoffs long but vers Boston they will be targeted and tested more than ever because of the talent level compared to OKC in Minnesota to Boston offensively we saw in the regular season Boston really took advantage of this I will say though Luca and Kyrie have been lock in way more on that end than they were at that time I can also see the Mavericks having success defensively in this series by switching a ton on the perimeter and at times you’re going to see Maxi Kela I always pronounce his last name wrong I apologize at the five position where they are just switching everything to make the Celtics fall in love with ISO ball the one flaw I will say the Celtics do have is they can become really predictable where they just one to ISO and jackup threes Charles Barkley has been roasting them for this all postseason long they are the worst offense I’ve seen for grown folks it’s like they just get a ball to one guy and go oneon-one they win a lot of games cuz they got talent what are they doing it’s like here Jason you get to the top of key go one-on-one shoot step back three Jaylen you go back there you make a move everybody just stands around things will change when porzings come back but the way they play offense right now they’re not they can’t win a championship like that a lot of the times when teams switch they just fall in love with with attacking mismatches but it just turns into Tatum and brown taking tough contested step back jumpers which they can hit but also they can go cold and going back to Tatum the heat had him playing terrible in the first round he had three games shooting under 40% the Mavericks had better Personnel defensively and size than the heat did plus Jason kid is incredible at coming up with defensive game plans I believe they have the ability to make the bad Jason Tatum come out more than any other team Boston has had to face thus far and unlike the Heat Pacers and Cavs the Mavericks have the Firepower to take advantage of the bad Tatum Tatum also has been shooting 30% from three in the playoffs so will Dallas just sit on his drives to make him a jump shooter and will it help them when they are in rotation because they can just close out on Tatum only worrying about him driving which could muck up the Celtics offense or does Tatum revert back to regular season form where he was shooting 37% from Deep that’s something I will be paying attention to Jaylen Brown has been killing it all postseason he’s been so consistent for Boston and honestly I expect that to continue but with Dallas’s Rim protectors and Jones Jr and PJ Washington it will be his biggest test and the thing is the Dallas Mavericks have been making second options look SI Billy all postseason starting out with Paul George then Jaylen Williams then Carl Anthony towns so that’s something to watch for there are two players that I can see Dallas you know giving more opportunities to then Tatum and brown Drew holiday and Derek white I count them as one player because if both are on point offensively it’s unfair in the first round versus the Heat Drew holiday had a very sus performance 35% from the field 36% from three he bowled out versus the pce ERS but the lack of size from the Pacers was a great matchup for him I think a lot of possessions will end up in Drew’s hands from Dallas loading up on others Derek white is also going to get opportunities he cooked versus Miami averaging 22 points per game but against the Cavs he shot 38% the Mavericks got to at least shut off one of them offensively if both are cooking it’s going to be very tough to beat Boston Al Horford as well will get easy op opportunities Dallas will live with it 39% from three versus Indiana he really made them pay for disrespecting him but 28% from three versus the Cavaliers he will be a guy the Mavs live with taking threes it’s that plain and simple Dallas would rather him beating them than any other player on the Boston Celtics but now it’s time to go to the Mavericks at times in those circumstances now the thing is the Celtics run dropped coverage with both Al Horford and porzingis consistently both Luca and Kyrie cook that coverage I suspect the Celtics will be switching as much as possible to take away the pick and roll as well because they have the perimeter Defenders to do so they probably put for zingis or Horford on the least deadly three-point shooter while having switchable Defenders on the perimeter they will probably just live with the other shooting if it means reducing the Mavs pick and roll because that’s what really gets their offense going when Kyrie and Luca are lobbing to gatford and Lively consistently it just gets them in a different Rhythm offensively and that means Derek Jones Junior and PJ Washington will have opportunities they will be key from three both can get hot but also can go cold PJ Washington has been averaging 6.63 a game because teams load up on Kyrie and Luca and versus the Thunder he swung that series shooting 46% from three throughout but versus Minnesota he couldn’t hit consistently but Minnesota did not have the offensive Firepower to make Dallas pay he shot 25% from three that can’t happen again Derrick Jones Jr has been cooking all postseason from Deep shooting 39 % but he’s not high volume and he can also go cold and if you close out hard he can turn down open looks which stalls the offense something to keep an eye on like it always is is how the others are shooting around Luca cuz he will be getting them opportunities but also how does Kyrie and Luca look in isolation now personally I think Luca matches up very well versus Boston Drew holiday is a great defender but he’s getting older he’s also undersized in terms of guarding Luca 6’4 while Luca is 67 and Luca has a weight advantage on him I lowkey believe Jaylen Brown size quickness and athleticism might be their best matchup if he just focused on defense for the series but he won’t cuz that’s Drew’s role and job on the team and brown has way more offensive responsibility but like I said I feel like a locked in defensive minded Jaylen Brown could present the most problems for Luca but honestly I truly believe Lou Dort took Luca to the next level during this postseason run because he’s just a different level of pest off the ball on the ball with his football like body and physical play and now Luca against every other team he goes up against against any other matchup he’s probably like oh this is way easier than what I had to go up against L Dorp because he was getting away with a lot of fouls during that series as well and luk was kind of banged up and I think you saw that really prepared in vers Minnesota because he was just on a different level and I think that can also translate to the Boston Celtics series because physicality wise there’s no one near lud Dort level I got Dallas and six I’ve been rocking with them the whole entire season I can’t give up on them now let me know your
