the Spurs had a rough 2023 season which isn’t surprising since they are in full rebuild mode even though they’re struggling now they have some key players to look forward to besides wanyama Jeremy Sohan stands out as a crucial piece for the Spurs and this is the reason why he’ll be a key part of the team’s success in the future the 2023 24 season felt like two different seasons for Jeremy soan for the 27 confusing games of spersed coaches tried him out as a point guard it seemed like a good idea because the Spurs weren’t competing for a title they had a superstar rookie in Victor wenyama and it was the year to try new things out but those 27 games especially the first 25 were rough Sohan struggled a lot with handling the ball leading to high turnover rates and inconsistent offense the experiment clearly didn’t work soan was frustrated and it seemed to be affecting ween yama’s growth eventually the Spurs moved Sohan back to his natural power forward position position and put Jones in the starting lineup which made the offense run smoother and work better now soan finished his rookie season averaging 11 points 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assist shooting only 24.6% from three in the 2023 24 season he showed some improvement averaging 11.6 points 3.4 assists and 6.4 rebounds while shooting 30.8% from the three before an ankle injury and surgery ended his season with eight games left compared to his rookie year soan became a better three-point shooter hitting 30.8% of his shots on 3.4 shots per game while he’s not a sharpshooter yet his willingness to take and make these shots marked a big Improvement soan also showed great hustle grabbing nearly two offensive rebounds per game he used his athleticism and energy to generate shots around him making 65.9% of his attempts in the paint however the biggest growth from soan came on defense he took on the stopper row often guarding the other team’s best perimeter player and delivering big defensive performances against some of the League’s top shooters he posted a 1.9 defensive winshare in the 2023 24 season with wanyama protecting the paint soohan did a great job making life harder for opposing scorers while these improvements might seem small they align perfectly with the Spurs vision for sohan’s future the blueprint for Sohan is clear the Spurs want him to grow into an allo it player like Draymond he’s in a really good position I’m very excited to see how he look like Beverly said no one thought Leonard was going to be a superstar when he entered the NBA after two seasons kawhai was averaging just 9.8 points 5.5 rebounds 1.3 assist 1.5 Steals and 0.5 blocks per game he was seen as a good Defender without much of an offensive of game similar to soan Leonard’s willingness to learn combined with the Spurs excellent Player Development helped him make huge strides offensively over the years turning him into a superstar that seems to be the blueprint the Spurs have for soan too next year the general consensus is that the Spurs will start Devin fael wanyama soan and a new point guard from the draft or a trade and probably another pure shooter with a new point guard the Spurs have a Spurs future if he can improve his scoring he’ll earn more minutes on the court as we witnessed last season his scoring Outburst can be a huge lift for the team with the point guard experiment behind
