The Golden State Warriors PERFECT Offseason! What Does It Look Like? | NBA Ideal Offseason
what’s going on y’all welcome back to Ideal off season this is a series where I get to put on the GM cap for a little bit and help an NBA team navigate through their offseason I try to make this series as realistic as possible like we’re not just throwing LeBron or Paul George or Harden just on any team whatsoever we’re trying to look at the teams like real needs in real estate in the NBA like if we’re looking at the Spurs they’re not going to win a championship next year as much as some people want to accelerate that process it’s how do we make them marginally better so they can continue to build this young core if it’s a team like the Lakers or something and hell if Dan Hurley’s going to be coach now who knows maybe by the time this comes out we know but we’re trying to position them for a championship right that’s what they want to do so that’s what they’re that’s what we’re going to help them do and for those of you that don’t know I just got back from traveling um an NBA team hired me for this off season to help them in their scouting Department as well as their analytics actually run a basketball analytics company and so this is the first time an NBA team’s actually hired out my company in itself and for me to be kind of an advisor in that sense so I was just kind of doing a real life ideal offseason which is pretty cool but anyway I’m excited to be back so make sure you guys like subscribe and comment I’ve responded to every single comment on my YouTube channel up to this point and I intend to keep on doing so so let’s get into it so we’re back here on the ideal offseason spreadsheet you guys know where I’m going with this um this this is a little spreadsheet that I put together to help me kind of demonstrate and visualize this series and the ideas that I have if you guys want access to the spreadsheet CU I’ve given it to over like a 100 people already at this point all you have to do is leave me a comment saying I would like the spreadsheet that’s good for my algorithm helps my video I then drop you a comment with a link to my Discord you can then hop on my Discord and shoot me another DM there just saying like hey I’m the guy from the YouTube comments and stuff and then the more people that jump on my Discord the better my marketing is you understand my whole business idea with this but yeah I’ll give you access to the spreadsheet and you guys can have all the fun in the world you want with it but anyway we’ve got the Golden State Warriors today and as you guys could probably imagine my head has been buzzing with NBA moves and ideas and scouting and player EV vals from this last week of working with an NBA team I’m I’m not going to note which team it was but not important right now the Golden State Warriors are in an interesting predicament right uh this team and let’s start off with this y’all this team has been so good for so long and it’s very rare that you have a team just happily go into the sunset and everything and it just works out so perfectly right eventually the teams start to lose games and you’re like oh they got to fix this and they got to fix this like first of all we you just got to clap it up for everything this organization has done they have been dominant for so very long and we’re trying to extend this out as long as we can Steph Curry is only going to be great for so much longer right so the goal of this is to try and get this team Back In Contention Steph Curry I think is still good enough to win you a championship it’s how do we put the right Supporting Cast around him at this point while while still maintaining the business side of this thing right I’m not even saying like financially it’s just there’s there’s components to this team that because it’s so legendary we don’t want to see something happen where some of these stars from The Big Three end up unlike other teams I’m telling you guys right now I’m trying to bring back Klay Thompson in this and so I wanna I want to maintain all of this somehow while still making these guys Championship contenders but anyway let’s dive into the current situation of this basketball team we can take a look at the cap space first uh this team does find itself within the first apron currently um for those of you curious these are some of the rules that go along with uh the first apron I decided to uh put that in there just in case anyone was curious and I’ve been updating the spreadsheet that I give to you guys so you guys let me know the biggest thing about the first apron is if we make trades we can only take a certain amount of salary back there’s also a bunch of other little things that kind of get sprinkled into there but that’s the big one you’ll need to know for like this video um if we creep up into the second apron it gets a little scary because now we can’t combine players and trades anymore and we can only take back an even more restricted amount of money so we want to try and maintain as much flexibility is possible but this is also just going to be a really expensive basketball team because that’s what it is at the end of the day um if we look at our draft pick situation we have the 53rd pick in the draft wouldn’t be the worst thing to use this just cuz it’ll be a cheap player to fill out uh the back half of our Foster it’ll be like a really cheap player about as cheap as you can make it so that’s cool in that sense and then we also have some picks to work with so as soon as the draft happens we have access to use this 25 26 27 28 first round pick held the 2029 one as well because there’s uh there’s no missing pieces at that point right or there the 2030 pick is gone so we can’t use the 2029 pick but uh these other first round picks we can use and trades and I’ve got some ideas for ones that or some players that I’m willing to Dish these out for cuz we’re trying to win at the end of the day right now it might be an ugly period for the Warriors after all these guys are gone but you’ll have enjoyed the glory and you’ll have enjoyed the ride looking at the current roster breakdown you got Steph Curry making a metric ton of money that’s okay he gets to have that right that’s totally fine we’ve got Chris Paul who’s on a non-guaranteed $30 million contract I’m going to tell you guys right now we’re not even trying to trade this or anything Chris Paul is gone not not messing around with it whatsoever like we’re just we’re just going to take them money it’s just not worth trying to make all that trade nonsense make sense there’s not going to be a team that’s interested in taking that on so that actually takes us out of the apron which is nice and uh don’t get me wrong we’ll find our way back into it like don’t don’t you worry about it but just noting that for now Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green both still making a decent amount of money Andrew Wiggins is somebody that we will probably look to try and move I just don’t know if it’s completely worth it now if you wanted to give me the argument that Andrew Wiggins is worth keeping I would totally hear you out on that Andrew Wiggins is an extremely talented basketball player uh from everything I’ve heard he’s been struggling with a lot of things personally and uh I’ve heard some of the stuff actually cuz I I know or new one of the players on the Warriors and they were kind of telling me about it some tough stuff man so I hope I hope all is well there and everything and we want to be uh sensitive to that but in terms of basketball like we’ll see what kind of move we can make for him and see if there’s a good fit out there and if there’s a clear Improvement but um Gary Payton the second very nice basketball player at the end of the day he’s got a player option I’m willing to bet that he’s probably just going to accept that keep keep it nice and simple especially since he dealt with some injuries last year and I’m not I’m not mad at having Gary pton on the team at the end of the day really good defensive player has always played well with this Warriors group I like it uh cavon Looney uh who’s now kind of the backup center for this team really nice uh Defender solid rebounder just big body plays well with the team knows the organization well only $3 million of his is actually guaranteed and considering the fact that Trace Jackson Davis is here this $8 million might be better off spent elsewhere so we’ll see if we can’t package that in into something but we’ll figure that out these two are where it gets really interesting Jonathan kaminga and Moses Moody um for everything the Warriors do really well they haven’t done a great job of growing their young Talent you haven’t seen a big step out of kaminga or Moody yet and some of it’s due to opportunity and it’s hard because you got a contending team when do you find time to develop the young players that is just a a hard thing but these are talented basketball players at the end of I I really like both of these players and I think other teams would be interested in them that’s why they were lottery picks just a couple years ago but but we’ve got team options on both of them so we’re going to be picking both of them up regardless but I think we’re going to be looking to try to move both of them because I don’t I don’t think what Jonathan kaminga brings to the team is necessarily like all that important compared to what we could probably get for him because think about it right we don’t we we’ve got some first round picks to use but these guys are essentially first round picks like you can already see the talent in these guys right they don’t know what these picks are going to be these are players that they’ve already seen NBA minutes of they have NBA film of these guys and they know what they’re getting and they’re young players like these are going to be valuable in them in their own right so want to want to try to use those guys uh Brandon pod zimsky I hope I’m saying his name right we just call him pods that’s that’s what I call him at least pods over here at the two really slid in and became a really nice basketball player uh and I was really surprised because I didn’t watch a ton of film on him coming in to the season and he just was able to fit in really really well instantly as a rookie for the Warriors just played smart basketball hit a good amount of his threes played good defense I I really really like pods Trace Jackson Davis somebody that I was pretty uh I I do I want to say negative like I I like to think I’m not negative with players necessarily I was uh skeptical of him as probably yet like he was performing well the whole season and I was just looking at him and I’m like I don’t think this guy’s that hard to game plan for and I know teams have other guys to worry about in this Warriors team but I was just looking at it and I’m like I feel like I could take this guy out of a game pretty quickly with some really basic adjustments but he just kept doing it the whole season so I have to kind of just bow down and be like okay that’s that’s on Me Trace Jackson Davis a nice player now he doesn’t give you a ton in like Rim defense or anything like that but he’s just a solid Active Center so I’m I am probably going to try to find a better starting center for this team and this team has ever since Andrew bogot left hasn’t been able to find like a good starting center right and so I I think I have a move that can make that happen but um I I still want to keep Trace Jackson Davis on the team if nothing else he’s really really cheap and then we have GE Santos I believe that’s how you say it uh his contract’s not guaranteed either he is cheap and he was solid in the very few minutes that he played for the Warriors so I’m not going to take him off the roster because he is so cheap but if if a move that makes sense becomes available then I think we’ll we’ll look to move him cuz like maybe a team just needs to take back a player or something for some reason and we can just give them a non- guaranteed contract that they can just cut right away but that’s just talking about that for now all right so now that we got a grip on who’s on the team kind of what some of our ideas and plans are let’s start getting into uh moves and so here’s the first thing I’m thinking about kaminga and Moody it might make sense to move them first especially before we get into the draft right obviously we try to free up some more cap space and stuff like that but more importantly I want to see if we if it’s worth getting into this draft to get another first round pick or something like that because we could easily turn uh these guys into first round picks like the the draft or the draft picks this year just aren’t as valuable because you know nobody really wants these picks this year I shouldn’t say nobody wants them but they’re just they’re not as highly coveted so like osas Moody gets you probably a first round pick this year in like the middle or the end of the draft or of the first round Jonathan kaminga probably gets you like a top five pick in all honesty in this so we’re going to take a look at like the draft order and see if there’s a team that really makes sense to move these guys to and maybe one of these teams would rather have these guys so here’s a team that I find really really interesting for this and that’s the uh the Charlotte Hornets like I look at some of these other teams Detroit really doesn’t need a ton of a ton of other young guys they’re probably looking to trade out you could probably say the San Antonio Spurs could take like a kaminga or something but I feel like they’d rather have like another floor spacer around wemi the Houston Rockets don’t need another young project Washington and Atlanta would probably just rather use the pick than have kaminga just get their own guy so I think that that leaves us with Charlotte for a place to move Jonathan kaminga and honestly it could make some sense like Brandon Miller could play the two or the three whether or not they bring back miles Bridges is kind of up in the air so you bring in a young guy that can uh create for himself a little bit and he’s looking for some ball handling opportunities and maybe Charlotte’s the place where he can finally go be who he’s wanted to be and that’s kind of be one of the primary options I think a potential fit like that would be kind of interesting too for building a team because you’d have what lamelo Brandon Miller and kaminga you’d have a lot of length and athleticism and a little bit of like Dynamic to like your offense and I think that that could be a really interesting thing so let’s explore let’s explore that one a little bit all righty y’ so this brings us back to fans fans for those of you that don’t know is this really cool website where you can mess around and do like these NBA trade simulations and like mock drafts and stuff like that really really cool site so we’ve got us and the Hornets kind of pulled up here I know it says we’re in the second apron right now it’s cuz we have all these like little cap hold things down here like those are things that we could release to get ourselves within the first cap if we needed to we shouldn’t need to in this though so I’m not too worried about that at all and something I want to talk about is we’re looking to kind of move this pick over here cuz that’s where this would all start is is there somebody available in this class that really makes like perfect sense for the Hornets you might be able to say Stefan Castle I don’t think Stefan Castle really wants to go there his Camp has made it pretty clear and so otherwise you’re kind of left with like eh wouldn’t you rather probably have like a Jonathan kaminga or something I think I would at least so in this case we’re going to trade Jonathan kaminga over here but this isn’t enough for Jonathan kaminga in my eyes I also want a player that can play for me right now and they have a center that’s very cheap and that I very much like and that’s Nick Richards so why does this make sense for the Hornets obviously they get to kind of restructure their rebuild a little bit right now the the odds of them being competitive this year and when I say competitive like really good are probably pretty slim so you get to continue to do your rebuild with kaminga you give up the six pick like kaminga is way better than that and then you give up Nick Richards who yes he’s a valuable player to this team and I think he’s one of the most underrated players in the NBA like in general I just I really like the game that he plays I think he’s really smart I think he’s always the right place on the court he’s big tall athletic can block shots can run jump and dunk all that type of stuff uh but it’s just it’s not something you need you’d rather have a Jonathan kaminga than a Nick Richards at the end of the day now is this even enough for Jonathan kaminga probably not in all honesty for how good he is so I want to take a look and see if there’s something else we really want to do like I think what we’ll probably do is swap these two picks as well be like hey we now want your draft picks you get the 53rd pick in this so you move back in the second round as well hopefully we can kind of steal somebody with this pick we did a good job grabbing Trace Jackson Davis last year so we move up in this case so we get ourselves a starting center for us I think Nick Richards could definitely be a starting center in the NBA we get back the uh the sixth pick in this that we can use to go get another decent enough player for us we’ll see who’s available and then kind of go from there so let’s try out this trade make sure that this works perfect that’s awesome Jonathan kaminga opts into this and then we also have the stiping rule that kicks in here but this just means that the Hornets would basically be drafting like on our behalf and then we’d send it over so it’s not like official official trade yet but just know that that’s the case and that this is what we ended up doing so Jonathan kaminga becomes Nick Richards here look at that saved ourselves a little bit of money and we can move these guys oop I did not mean to do that at all but uh these guys get to move down here and I think that that’s honestly one of the more important things that we do here let’s see Nick Richards pop up here beautiful beautiful we have ourselves a big nice starting center for this team and more importantly we got some draft picks so now we’ve got the sixth pick the 42nd pick and Nick Richards on the team I like this a lot we’ve been searching for this Center for forever in Golden State really really happy with this move and it saved us a little bit of money for the time being we’re about to change that with who we’re uh Drafting and everything like that I don’t think I want to make any more trades until uh the draft I want to see who we’re getting first in this but otherwise um yeah we we’ll make trades after the draft let’s let’s go into the draft now all right now that I have the custom draft order set we can use fanso nice little tool here that kind of takes into account a bunch of different things right it uses these AI components to try to add a little bit of sense of realism to the draft which I think is really really nice personally that makes this series just a little bit more realistic so I’m not just being like I think this guy would be available here so this is what we’re doing right it gives us the opportunity to go out and do some different things but either way okay we’re here with the sixth pick now and let’s talk about who’s available Stefan Castle who we thought might end up in Charlotte is actually available for us so that’s a really interesting thing to take a look at uh Stefan Castle would probably be the number one pick in this draft class if he was even a decent shooter he is a bad shooter currently but man he’s pretty good at everything else he can handle the rock he plays great defense he’s a good passer seems like he’d be a nice role player for us uh kind of similar to kaminga in that sense huh really really valuable player very very smart uh the people at Yukon have made it very clear in his camp that he wants to play point guard that’s kind of his whole thing he wouldn’t get to play point guard here and just being honest with you guys that’s just his Camp trying to make him end up in San Antonio and in this simulation he didn’t end up there I’m willing to bet that’s probably where he’s going to go but um for us he’d be a secondary ball handler uh at best but kind of fills that kaminga rooll so I don’t know if it’s a perfect fit but something to consider nonetheless guys like Dalton connect obviously make like a ton of sense to be on a Golden State Warriors team a really really good shooter would come off the bench most likely for us and just be a nice solid sized guy like the Warriors have struggled to put size on the wing for a little bit so that could make a lot of sense for us there’s Nicole top isue just towards ACL he won’t get to play uh in this season uh most likely we don’t know exactly uh how long he’s out for right now but the word is that he’ll come to America and get that timeline figured out so probably not somebody I want right now uh we got Saloon here who he’s going to take a little bit longer to develop Ron Holland’s going to take a little bit longer to develop Rob dillingham’s going to probably need some time to develop so it’s probably between connect and Castle who we pick looking at who we currently have on the roster I think it’s just going to make a little bit more sense to prioritize the wing and somebody that’s going to be able to come in and contribute a little bit more right away and that’s kind of why I want to go with the little bit older more mature player in Dalton connect maybe the ceiling isn’t as high but look we don’t have time to like develop a ceiling or anything like that we’re trying to win basketball games next year I think Dalton connect can come in and do that just be a solid floor spacer for us play decent enough defense I like I like this pick so D connect ends up making this much money for Four Seasons let’s just slide our boy G here gu I don’t I don’t exactly know how to pronounce it like I said I’m really bad with names and so just a just as a reminder kaminga uh turned into Nick Richards and Dalton connect you know not the craziest thing in the world we’ll also get whoever we get with the 42nd pick we moved up to get that one but um not the worst return in the world we’ve at least added a little bit of depth to the team and maybe a little bit more shooting a position that we really needed so I like the start to this at the very least we’re now just going to let the rest of the draft simulate until the the 42nd pick and we’ll make our next pick from there the Grizzlies ended up with Stefan castle that’s really really awesome all right so we’re here with the 42nd pick uh again this was part of the kaminga trade and we’ve got a couple players that I’d be really interested in in bringing and let me tell you we’re again we’re trying to win now I’m not trying to take on a project right now we’re trying to stack this team up as much as possible to be contenders next season so the the couple players that I look at right away are Harrison Ingram AJ Mitchell and Don Holmes thei or Don holes Jun or however you want to say it I look at Harrison Ingram and I think okay well let me give you guys a breakdown of Harrison Ingram not the greatest like shooter in the world that’s not really what he’s known for he’s not like a bad shooter or anything it’s just not anything to write home about but he’s a very active defensive player good athlete solid passer just kind of a solid allaround basketball player he’s got a nice little game to him if you wanted some length and some size right away you could get that in him I think that’d be a really cool guy to get in the second round you got you got guys like AJ Mitchell a little bit bigger of like a point guard that you could bring Off the Bench again a little bit more mature he’s not much of a shooter but he plays good defense he attacks the rim pretty well he’s got a multitude of Moves Like that’s really cool I’ve also seen him play when uh I watched a lot of film of him this week he’s pretty good at getting like his hands and like the passing lanes and stuff like that uh with his six4 size at the point guard I’d feel comfortable throwing him in against NBA point guards so that’s a cool option we also have Don Holmes uh for those of you that don’t know a guy coming out of Dayton really really interesting and dynamic player like this guy’s like a nine or 10 out of 10 athlete like really goes up hammers the ball down uh Dayton’s usually pretty good at finding those like really athletic forwards or whatever but uh good rim protector is a good passer knows where to be on the floor at all times uh despite the eight and 1 half rebounds I actually think he could probably have a little bit more of a motor even for them and he’s a little bit undersized uh to play the center but I think that he’s Dynamic enough to play the four honestly the good news is is he’s not like a horrid shooter by any means like he’s not hitting like a huge clip or anything like that but I think in low volume like he could hit some open shots for you so I’d be curious to see because if we want to just get some extra athleticism and length out there I think Don Holmes is a really interesting way to do that he could be a good switch Defender he can be a guy that takes after Draymond Green and gets to learn from him a little bit so when Curry gets Blitz cuz he’ll get Blitz all the time and they hit Draymond with that little pocket pass right that we always see and he gets to then make a decision like I trust Don Holmes to kind of be that guy in that offense too so I think he fits the offense really really well I’m going to take Don Holmes Don Holmes would make this much money for two seasons and I’m just I’m going to throw him in like right here for now that’s kind of where I see him fitting in okay so we used up those two picks right we’ve got the rest of these to use if we want to I think that’s pretty cool um there’s three roster spots left and there’s probably another trade I would like to make where do we currently find ourselves going out of the draft we’ve still we’re still in the luxury tax we still got to resign Klay Thompson though Klay Thompson somebody we’re going to have to go out there and get I don’t know how long of a contract I’m going to give him yet but it’s probably going to be a pretty good amount of money at the end of the day so we’ve got to we’ve got to think through if we want to move anybody else before we go out and get him I think we’re probably going to want to move Moses Moody and I think we’re probably going to want to trade cavon Looney so those are two guys we could package together um judging by how much money Klay Thompson’s going to get his cap hits bigger than the amount of money we get for him so I think that we trade or we go start signing Klay Thompson first so that we can get rid of his cap hit so here are the free agents that the Warriors have and everything Gary pton where we’re just going to take care of him Dario Sarge not bringing back we’re not bringing back any of the rest of these guys right so we want to bring back Klay Thompson how much money is Klay Thompson going to be worth here’s how I want to look at this uh Steph Curry’s got two years left on his deal right he’s going to be pretty old by then we presume by the end of this Steph Curry contract is maybe the end of our window right like let’s just say that’s the case so what I’m thinking is based off Klay Thompson’s production how old he is and everything and look I know Klay Thompson’s going to have a lot of suitors and you guys can time or I’ll Tim stamp this for you guys when you guys leave these comments inevitably that like oh the Sixers or the magic are going to go sign this guy for this much or whatever there’s a lot more that goes into this stuff than like money and fit and everything like he likes playing for the Warriors we know that it’s a system that works for him we’re going to give him a starting spot back most likely to go out there and be a contributor on this team like there’s just familiarity there right and there’s Legacy behind this we can still give him a ton of money as well so here’s what I’m thinking as far as Klay Thompson goes Klay Thompson for us you can come here you can continue to ball let’s go fight for another championship with this group I’m going to give you $23 million uh a season for two seasons you get $23 million still to come out and go do your thing right that brings us back into the first tax apron totally fine but you get still a ton of money uh you’re declining as a player a little bit but that’s fine you get to remain on this team be super valuable right and just finish out the Legacy man let’s go get one more payday and if you really want to spend like the last couple years chasing some other contract or something like that from Dallas Orlando whoever go do it afterwards come come finish out this journey with us so just for appearance sake that’s going to be Klay Thompson now I’m going to move these guys down here I’m going to move pods here I know pods started at points during the season this is what I’m going with for now all right this is this is the Golden State Warriors that I imagine but um okay so now that we’ve got Klay Thompson we know which apron that we fall into this also helps alleviate the cap hold that he had which was pretty heavy uh if we go back to our trade manager here I’m going to close this so we can keep uh messing with the scenario as we need to so now we’re going to adjust Klay Thompson’s contract to better reflect what we have all right so now that we have Klay Thompson figured out is this team a contender well debatably yes already but I think there’s still moves that can be made to kind of optimize this team a little bit more and we know the Warriors are going to be active this offseason so it’s not unrealistic to say that one or two more trades might transpire right um I’m looking at guys like Andrew Wigan still uh cavon Looney Moses Moody says he doesn’t even really want to be there so I think what we start off with is trying to combine cavon Looney and Moses money we can still put contracts together CU we’re not into that second apron yet um so maybe what we try to do is turn those guys into somebody that’s a little more valuable who is that I’m not exactly sure out of curiosity how much do we have to work with here if we combine these two guys we got about $13 million and so what is it we can take back 110% of it yeah so we could take back 110% of it so let’s do this times um 1.1 which is 15 million so we could take back about $15 million in salary if we moved both of those guys so I think that that’s doable how do we find somebody worth $15 million well basically I just go to basketball reference and sort by the contract amount and see if we can’t find somebody that makes some sense for us and just looking at the list I see somebody that’s interesting to me and that is the Brooklyn Nets the Brooklyn Nets are in this really interesting situation where they have all these interesting role players that have value to people right but it doesn’t make sense for them to have them on their team currently a lot of people think that they’re going to be trading us some of their players because they don’t really have control of their own draft picks going forward and they don’t exactly have a young core that they’re building with with right now so it might be worth their time to go out and uh move some of their assets to get some future assets one of those guys might be a Moses Moody he could be a guy that they could try to develop bring in for a year so I kind of want to start with that but who exactly are we targeting for them well I think it starts with Dorian finny Smith Dorian finny Smith nice 3 and D Wing player that you could throw in the Warriors would make a ton of sense to have around this core he just seems like he could be a nice Warrior right they’re always looking for lengthy wings so I like the idea of being able to bring him in so let’s try and make this work Dorian finny Smith goes over here what do we do in return they get a Moses Moody who’s an interesting player for them and I still have the Hornets up by the way cuz there’s no way to like save the progress that you’ve made with all of this stuff and then let’s say we’re also throwing in a cavon looney over there uh is that enough well for for um Dorian finny Smith how many years does he have left on there two years $15 million yeah you know you probably got to throw in something to go make that happen how old is he at this point too is another thing you have to consider 31 years old he kind of on the back half of his career at this point so throw a couple second round picks their way honestly I think that that’s probably enough to go get you him but could we sweeten the pot more is the question what if we want to really take advantage of this trade because what if I want a Dennis shuder as well Dennis shuder is just such a nice basketball player right plays great defense great score can just do a ton of things does he necessarily fit on the Golden State Warriors No I I’d almost say certainly not but he’s just a good basketball player wherever you put him so just coming in and going and getting some buckets for us especially if Klay Thompson goes through like a cold spell or something like that uh especially cuz Curry can play without the basketball think about it if you have the pressure actually of Dennis schrudder that you have to constantly be up on him so he doesn’t just like Blow by you or something like that while you also have Curry running around actions that could be a really interesting combo so let’s let’s just say we’re trying to get Dennis schrudder over here as well right then what kind of problems are we running into just out of curiosity I want to try this trade what it what does it say it fails okay the Warriors would need to cut another $1 million from the trade in order to make that happen that’s totally fine let’s start figuring out how we make that happen obviously an immediate answer is like Andrew Wiggins that’s a way we could do it because just even putting in like a Gary pton isn’t going to make all the sense in the world right so if we if we moved Gary pton over to the Nets I don’t think that that works right uh no that’s still a fail they would need to cut another 2.3 million still okay yeah what happens then if I move Andrew Wiggins over there I presume we fail in the other direction then right oh no it’s a success okay so this works because I have enough money in order to make that happen Okay so what what does this look like then we get Dennis schruder Dorian finy Smith they get Wiggins cavon Looney Moses money Andrew Wiggins is just a good basketball player that they could try to trade or something they’re taking back more salary which doesn’t make a ton of sense for them so we we’re going to have to incentivize them in some capacity uh they get cavon Looney back who that’s just a year and then they’ve saved themselves a salary cap right they don’t have to pay as much to a guy like shrewder Moses Mooney is a young guy for them to develop let’s let’s sweeten the pot with a pick the 2025 class is an extremely valuable uh class of athletes as of right now it’s looking like it’s going to be a really good draft class we throw this over to the Nets who looking at next year uh don’t they have one pick that is the Phoenix Suns and then they don’t have their own pick I’m thinking that they’re probably going to want to get in and take as much young Talent as they can with this I think if we throw them this along with this conglomeration of talent that’s probably enough for them to move off of two guys that just let’s be honest they don’t care all that much about I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the Nets make some sort of trade to get themselves like a new point guard in this year’s class uh anyway not in like this year’s draft class but during this free agency period so I don’t think they really need shrewder in that sense but but I think that this trade makes some sense for both sides like I said you get a young guy to develop you get a pick that could be really really valuable for next season if not you have two picks that are like semi valuable that you can you that you can use to trade up or something like that the point is you’re pushing back your assets to some capacity so let’s try this one out then does it work that works they get a first round pick out of it cool that’s awesome if you want to make an argument that like another second or something should be thrown in I don’t think it should be that much more for guys like this at this point I like this trade right here so Wiggins is gone Looney is gone Moses Moody are gone all righty there goes a lot of names and who have we now brought in we’ve brought in Dorian finny Smith and Dennis schrudder cool cool cool is shudder going to like coming off the bench no not necessarily but you know what he’s just going to have to deal with it for the time being I’m not I’m not all that concerned about it so there goes Wiggins as well so now we have Dorian finny Smith here Dennis shrer slides in here all righty there’s three roster spots left we’ve made quite a few moves I’m deleting these at this point too cuz these aren’t completely necessary all right awesome we’ve done this math already all right what are we kind of cooking with right now let’s recap we’ve made a much better bench which is good considering how old like some of these guys are we just need guys to help us carry through the regular season if nothing else we’re probably fine at Center for right now um Draymond Green being the only power forward you can move Dorian Smith over you got Dalton connect that should be able to come in and be a nice shooter for you right away clay still going to be clay you got pods who’s young and interesting Dennis shuder is probably good for 16 17 points if you really want to put him out there for that long and we don’t have this pick anymore right I don’t think there’s anybody else left to trade at all I think that this team is fine you also have Gary Payton that you can throw out there too and to just be dynamic with this group hell you could throw him in at the three if necessary um I think we’re going to keep Santos on the team just cuz he’s cheap in that case but we have three roster spots left that we can use let’s go find some like veteran minimum dudes to bring on to this team man we cleared a a lot of cap space by doing that too which is kind of nice it gives us flexibility to work throughout the season so what positions do we need if we could find another power forward or something that would be really nice we’ll probably find one more Center try to bring some size in and then do we need another point guard not necessarily I’d probably try to bring in another Wing if we can I think we’ll be okay at the guard considering who we have here because pods and Gary Peyton can kind of double as point guards when needed it’s not the best fit in the world but you know it is what it is at the end of the day so let’s start off with like the forward position is there somebody here that we can go get on a veteran minimum that’s going to be able to contribute to this team right away what about Tory Craig Tory Craig is a nice basketball player 3 and D guy that you can throw out there and have him do a bunch of different things right um between those two sides of the ball um probably not going for anything more than a minimum proba doesn’t want to stay in the Bulls after how this season went let’s let’s throw a minimum contract over at Tory Craig and say that we’re getting him over there Tory Craig would get this much money for one season let’s you guys can make an argument that Don Holmes will play or whatever but for the time being that’s where Tory Craig’s going to slide in the next guy I want to offer is Kenyan Martin Jr um KJ Martin for those of you that don’t know really really good athlete decent enough three-point shooter uh going to be an unrestricted free agent someone that we can get for a little bit cheaper a guy that if you get enough hustle out of him might be a guy that could contribute on this team right away and he can kind of play like the 4 three probably not not as much the three but he can play the four as well so just a guy that can go be athletic for us we don’t have a ton of like Athletic youth on this team or anything so I think just adding a little more athleticism is going to be a nice thing to have on the team KJ Martin would be getting this much money for this one season okay you know what I’m going to move Tory Craig to like here we’ll say we’ll move ghe to this and we’ll turn this right here into KJ cuz why not they’ll figure out the rotation more so but let’s go find one more center now we go back here we can go to Center uh just some vet guy that’s got a little bit of size to him like you could bring a javil McGee back are you able to convince an Andre Drummond to do it that’s totally possible I really like the idea of like a Mason plumbley especially since he’s such a good passer as well he’ll be able to compete for a rotation spot on this team I like the idea of bringing in old mason Mason plumbley gets this much money for one season we throw him here perfect and there you have it your 2024 2025 Golden State Warriors you guys see me rubbing my head right now and being like am I completely thrilled with this result yes and no like I I like this result I think this is a good basketball team that’s going to be really competitive because it has a lot more depth and it’s got some different attributes that the Golden State Warriors have been missing like a like a lob threat and a rim Defender they’ve got a couple more spacers now uh they’ve actually got some cap flexibility that they can use to make moves throughout this year cuz they’ve got so many guys on like short-term contracts which I think is good do I think that this team is an immediate title Contender no but it’s going to be tough when you’re keeping this core together and at the end of the day I wanted to keep this core together and that’s what made this video a little bit harder and a little bit more puzzle piecy to make uh cuz like I I want to respect the legacy of the Golden State Warriors I I really do like I wanted to maintain that I think it’s great that they stay together I think you’ve got some interesting young pieces here to mess with on this team I I think you have enough shooting and switch ability on this team to where you can still be good defensively all these guys should in theory be able to play warrior style basketball ball which is good uh getting into the playoffs and everything now are they missing the star power you’re possibly right about that you’re possibly right about that and I won’t disagree with you guys in the comments if you guys say that honestly but this was my attempt at making a contender with these three still on the roster so if worst case scenario happens you guys get two more years of these Golden State Warriors so just try to enjoy it but hey I appreciate it as always y’all happy to be back home and everything and uh yeah I’ll talk to you guys later thanks so much bye [Music]

What do y’all wanna see the Warriors do this offseason?
ALSO… keep in mind with this one we are making it our goal to keep the big 3 together. Is it optimal for basketball? Probably not, but aye it’s what we’re doing.
Warriors want to contend, trading kuminga who with pod and trayce can be their only future given that they give up on their draft picks then after the core goes away they need some sort of identity. And trading him for a pick is silly and drafting a replacement who’s no way better than kuminga. Realistically moody can be traded perhaps with someone else cheep for a cheep center. This and the last pistons rebuild aren’t realistic enough
Greatest Channel!!!!!!
Wait the prerecorded videos are over?
agree with keeping Klay at a reasonable price.
but I think you're undervaluing Kuminga. He's easily an 18-22 point scorer next year. I agree he's a difficult fit but he's a much more valuable trade piece than you suggest
Also dubs are one of few contending teams without star #2. JK + assets to bring in a star, else they should only make marginal changes to the team…
I would like the spreadsheet
WARRIORS WANT TO CONTEND, EXACTLY 💯. THEY WON'T HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO TRADE KUMINGA. HE'S OUR MOST VALUEABLE TRADE ASSET. WE CAN STILL KEEP BP, MOODY, AND TJD BUT WIGGS, JK, AND USING CP3'S CONTRACT HELPS US LAND A STAR TO HELP STEPH 🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏿. IF WE DON'T, WE'RE HEADED FOR ANOTHER PLAY IN, WASTED STEPH SEASON.
Nice Warriors roster.
This scenario doesn’t really make much sense. One of the Warriors biggest issue’s is secondary shot creation. Ideally you would trade JK and/or Moody for someone who can do such a thing. Klay in 2024 and onward is not/will not be good enough to be that secondary shot creator. Putting a bunch of role players around a 37 year old Curry and expecting him to carry the scoring load without anyone to defer to besides a Klay who his past his years does not do much for them.
This is fkn the worst warriors offszn😂another szn that Steph gonna get triple team cuz no one in this team a 2nd option😂Finney smith at 3 really?that is like another Draymond can't give Steph fkn space😂and nick Richards? wtf😂get a Nic Claxton or Mitchell Robinson n that starting center.trade kuminga for a win now player or package him for a star player a 2nd option that can help Steph n scoring and spacing not another fkn rookie and what? you wait another 3-4 yrs to help the team?😂this guy sayin "were trying to win now or contender" you funny change it to Were trying to get a cap space cuz that's what you doin not to be a championship contender😂you trippin buddy
Once he came to Moddy I figured out this guy have no idea what he is talking about.
Good luck to the team who hired him for drafting players 😂
Pajemski
Anybody who wants to trade Kuminga are morons. If you want to pull for a team that trades away developing young stars, you could always become a Laker or even Clippers fan. But no way in hell Joe Lacob trades Kuminga. Steph Curry doesn't even want to trade Kuminga.
if the warriors are serious about making impact moves this summer…. then klay can not get paid more than the vet min. if klay is getting over 20 million a year, the warriors are essentially running it back without chris paul
Gabe Mcglothan at pick 42 should be it if this is how it plays out.
You don't have a clue about Kuminga lmao
Maximising the Curry deal is the dumbest thing, you either get no.5 the right way or you don't get no.5 at all, saying we should give up pieces for a Star lets say a Butler that's all your young guys and at least 2 first round picks, btw we don't have many picks left so assuming they do that get no.5, after the 2 years, you are back to lottery hell without the picks so you don't have any star to attract FA's no picks to get future stars till maybe 2029 so 5 years of lottery with no future in sight because we weren't satisfied with 4? I wonder what is a bigger priority being a one iteration dynasty and it ends with Steph like the Bulls ended with Jordan or Sustaining a dynasty and always being competitive, this dynasty isn't even 10 years in from the 1st chip, the Spurs did 20 years.
Great podcast love the exercise. What about just upgrading a big and running it back? We won 46 games with Drey missing over 20 and I think Klay and Wiggins will bounce back. Also hopefully JK and Moody level up this summer! Whatcha think? 🏀🏀🏀 go Dubs!
I'd like the possibilities of landing Knecht but if possible to Trade Moody for a Zach Edey woulf be better, a Wing of Draymond and Kuminga is a possibilities for Edey as Center for extra mobility so you can play Edey on Drop coverages and protect the interior at the same time a legit threat inside in offense to open up more Klay or Steph.
I really believe Edey's gameplay will give GSW the best offense & possible defense.
I my opinion yhey need to trade klay thompson for a better younger starplayer. We all know klay is not working for the warriors system since his injury, keep kuminga domint in the paint need a center and we need a replacement for klay
I dont want klay anymore please trade him keep kuminga maybe trade wiggs i mean hes fine if he stays either way. But klay gotta go. Notice that klay is not performing well in the playoffs since his injury.
Nice try but not a championship team
I think you really underestimate Kuminga's value, unless its for another star player that can contribute to winning now as well as winning in the future he prob won't be traded. Also, his development this past season showed he can be a big time scorer, the fit with Wiggins isn't perfect but Kuminga is the only light of hope in the future in a non-steph-klay-dray era. Also, you said TJD doesn't provide rim defense but his rim defense and vertical spacing was the main reason why he got a starting spot down the stretch over a vet like Kevon Looney. I think your offseason rebuild tries to infuse some youth while still making win-now moves which is perfectly fine, but I think the way you accomplish it is not ideal bc the "win now moves" are not big enough to really move the needle too much and especially if you are gonna trade Kuminga, it needs to be for a big time move not for Knecht or even any other lottery player bc 1. they prob will not be more impactful than Kuminga year one and 2. they won't be a higher upside prospect than Kuminga. Same with the Wiggins trade, the 2025 draft pick is too valuable considering the uncertainty of how good/bad the Warriors will be in a TOUGH western conference. I think the trade would make sense fit wise, however including the warriors 2025 1st does not make the trade worth it IMO. I like the players that you targeted in trades (outside of drafting a 2024 lottery pick), but I think what you are giving up to get them is not worth it. F/A signings were great though! Still, nice video, Warriors are in a tough situation this offseason with decisions but its cool to see what other people think.
Great breakdown. I've modeled a bunch of trades like this in Fanspo. Would you please share your spreadsheet? Thx
