Realistic trade of what it would take to get Lauri Markkanen – would you say no?

If the Jazz are willing to give up Lauri it won’t be cheap – and they will likely prioritize young talent over draft picks as they already have a lot.

In order to renegotiate and extend him on a max (which would be a prerequisite of trading for him) we need to clear ~$15m in cap space, so we *have* to send back salary or move it elsewhere, this cannot be an all pick trade.

Some of the objections I expect:

    **Trading Cason, are you crazy?**

The chance Cason is ever as impactful a player as Markkanen is incredibly low, I’d go as far as to say 0%. I’m sure you could try and overwhelm them with picks in order to keep him, but they would demand players not picks I’d expect. We can fill out depth pieces if we need to with the rest of the assets we have, but this team would be completely unstoppable with Lauri out there.

**We can’t afford to pay him and Chet and Jdub**

Yes we can, for the next 2 years. You can’t just punt on *2 years* because you are worried about the 2027 cap situation. We are a legitimate title contender *right now*. We can easily move him if required for positive value 2 years from now. Or, maybe he is actually the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team at that time and you move on from someone else. Either way, it won’t be an issue.

Utah says no… once again.. Ainge specifically said for OKC to acquire Lauri Markkanen, it would require a package centered around JDub – not Josh Giddey

Edit: not Ainge specifically, a member of the Jazz FO that was left unnamed

I don’t see the Jazz doing this. I know a lot of people on here like those guys but they like them a lot more than the rest of the league.

All of it depends on if Lauri actually wants to go and what other teams would be interested.

Jazz hang up the phone and could definitely get a better offer than this.

I think if we sent this offer ainge probably sits on it and waits to see if he gets anything better by the deadline, and has a weekly call with Presti to see if he can scam more picks

Gobert went for 4 1sts and a pick swap along with players. One of them, Walker Kessler who had a really solid rookie year. Some others that then got turned into more assets.

The Philly pick likely isn’t special as I imagine it would be 18 at worst.

The Denver pick is interesting as Den has a lot of contracts coming up.

As constructed , you’d likely do this if you thought Cason it potentially going to be a top 50 player in the league.

I think it would take at least another first, potentially 2 of them to get Danny Ainge to agree. DG doesn’t really do trades for the sake of them and try’s to extract everything possible from people.

If Lauri was on another team then I could see us getting him at the trade you mentioned.

Oh hell no! Why would you give away so much for so little. Absolutely no upside there

Take out Wallace and add 3 more firsts.

I would remove Cason and add in two more firsts

This subreddit has a weird definition of realistic

Reading through these comments are very divided. Some are arguing Markkanen is an “all star level player” and won’t be traded for some role players and late round picks.

Others think Cason it’s too much to give up for a 2 year rental.

So I guess it’s a good proposal? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I feel like typically, not always, both parties in a trade aren’t super pleased and feel some uncertainty.

Definitely say no. Lauri can leave after one year and if we pay him to stay we can’t keep dub and chet long term. I really don’t think we’re looking for stars this year. We just need a high quality role player at the 4 and maybe a back up center
