If he’s talking to ESPN and they’re quoting him but he still needs a day? Feels like a setup.

honestly idk how anyone can really blame Pelinka and Jeanie if he stays, sounds like they pursued him hard and gave him good money and say within the franchise

  3. Grrrr, half of me thinks based on that quote that he is staying at UConn, but the other half of me tihnks…he would have declined by now (?).

Maybe he needs to sleep on it and make the call tomorrow at 9am or whatever?

Either way, we didnt cheap out and I dont blame a guy if he wants to stay where his family is.

That said, I hope we dont sign JJ or Borrego by Tuesday afternoon…still kinda hopewe turn to either Nori or Adelman or someone we arent thinking of currently.

  4. doyourjobpelinka

sounds like a raise from UConn is coming Monday morning…

  5. At this point it’s seeming pretty obvious to me he’s staying at UConn and simply used the Lakers as leverage for a higher offer from UConn

  6. hawkins126

Ya he’s staying JJ the podcaster come on down it’s fucking over

  7. BatmanHive

They are saying Nas is performing at Uconn tomorrow

  8. MeiIsBaePrayForMe

He’s not going back to UConn. anyone upset that he hasn’t made a decision yet doesn’t understand the magnitude of the career change he is about to make. Relax, Monday is tomorrow kiddo

  9. flubbergastedshocked

My gut says he’s coming and wants to tell his players on Monday first. But maybe it’s just hopium…

  10. Glad everyone in this thread is being reasonable and calm. In all seriousness, I think it’s 50/50. It would be tough to accept JJ at this point, especially since it’s been reported that players have voiced hesitation regarding him.

Code for: “UConn prepare that fat offer for me by tomorrow morning or I’m out of here”

  12. doyerfan88

If he rejects the lakers the only thing that I’ll be mad about is that this got leaked.

It’s not happening folks. This was a brilliant move on his end. He’s going to get a new extension, guarantee’s in NIL and player revenue sharing while also alerting the NBA community he would talk.

  14. Language sounds like he’s staying at UConn. But I guess you never know

    > In a phone interview on Sunday, Hurley told ESPN that he left “extremely impressed” with Lakers VP and GM Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss and had been spending Sunday weighing what sources tell ESPN is a massive, long-term offer to move to the NBA.

More from Woj in his article

  16. BookerTeet

He was never going to leave UConn in the first place.

  17. Greedy_Nectarine_233

Man I’m not feeling so confident anymore. Think JJ is a colossal downgrade from Hurley

  18. iamtoolazytosleep

He will sign with Detroit – this is the ultimate plot twist.

    >…but he loves what he has built

That *”But”* is a killer.. cmon brain lower your damn expectations

Why leave a steady job for one where fans will call for you to get fired within a year? Coaching the lakers is challenging and stressful I don’t see him leaving his steady job to coach the tail end of the AD and Lebron duo.

  21. future-shock

He’s not leaving. These situations hardly work in lakers favor

  22. broke_boi1

Preparing myself for JJ and/or James Borrego. At least we know Rob and Jeanie actually tried

  23. Gristle__McThornbody

These things are likes sales job. If you can’t close the deal on your pitch then it’s unlikely to happen. This is just another case we let one go because we didn’t make a strong enough case for him to take the HC job. Don’t care what WOJ says. But hopefully I’m wrong. I don’t want to go from this to JJ Reddick.

  24. It’s definitely 50/50 with the way Woj worded this

  25. NotTheMamba

Long term contract, $100 mil guaranteed, you coach the greatest franchise in basketball and a chance to work with the GOAT, and you have to think about it? It’s not a hard decision at all. I don’t think he’s coming. His heart is at UCONN. I just hope we have a plan B.

  26. Winter-Gur-9762

He staying I’m sure, but at least we gave him a shot

  27. Old_Worldliness_5015

Expectations too high for his first NBA job

  28. TRashGodBrian

It’s not about having a competent head coach maybe it’s about all the friends we’ve made along the way!!

  29. CabbageStockExchange

Feels like it could go either way. My gut tells me he’s gonna stay. I hope not because I do not want JJ goddamned Reddick as our head coach

  30. Lakers need to get Billy Donavan on the phone and see what convinced him to make the jump. He bad a power house in Florida and left for OKC (yuck).
