Not looking good

Tonight really felt devastating!! Dallas has always bounced back from losing game 1 and avoided coming home down (0-2) but tonight Dallas just lost a game where it was theirs for the taking. Dallas seriously needed to steal this game where Boston shot horrifically from 3 point range going 10-40 and Jayson Tatum so far this series has been extremely average.

I will always root for this team to death but am not afraid to admit the truth and be honest and the honest truth here is Boston is simply the better team. They have too much fire power with 5-6 dudes capable of scoring 15+ point points any given game. Tatum is only average 17PPG though 2 games on 12-38 shooting but it hasn’t mattered at all cause he has 4-5 other players Brown, White, Holiday, Porzingis & Horford who are all scoring double digits. Meanwhile Luka is having to do everything just to give Dallas a chance so far cause his running mate Kyrie Irving has disappeared. Irving is getting his ass handed to him by Holiday & White thus far so respect must be given to those two who are two of the best defensive guards in the league.

The role players/bench have been absolutely atrocious so far as well and that was where I thought going into the series Dallas had the advantage to counter Boston’s top 5-6 players Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, White, Holiday & Horford. I thought DJJ, Lively, Green, Kleber, Hardy would be more effective and give Dallas an advantage but it’s been the exact opposite. The role players combined with Kyrie Irving have been flat out terrible through 2 games. Luka, PJ Washington & Daniel Gafford have been the only impactful players and that is certainly not enough going up against Boston’s top 5-6 players.

I will not completely write this team off with Luka & Kyrie on it but if Kyrie and the role players keep playing like this this series is over in 4 or 5 and even if Kyrie & the role players start playing better, it’s a monumental task to beat Boston’s top 5-6 players 4 out of 5 times. That’s why game 2 was so imperitave to have when Boston shot horrifically from 3 & Tatum has yet to have a great game

If Dallas loses I think they’ll be back to the finals in the next few years. Luka will get a ring eventually. Not many do it on their first go.

The gap between our 3-8 options & theirs is way too big, unless Kyrie stops acting like a pussy in front of Boston i don’t see us lasting more than 3 other games. You need a good 3rd option like Mikal Bridges to beat this Celtics team 4 times

Also if we want to comeback here in the future we need a legit upgrade over DJJ at the 3 & for Lively to develop some kind of offensive game, relying on Luka to feed him open dunks won’t get him far

DJJ is not a starting championship level player. Need an upgrade at the 3. The duo of PJ and Gattford need more time with the roster and with Kidd to be more involved in the offence and be able to do something when Luka is getting doubled.

  4. Realistically, what moves could we make with the assets and players we have? Do we have enough for a guy like Mikal Bridges or a reliable 3rd scorer?

This team needs a 3rd option and a MAJOR bench overhaul.

Play Exum at the 3. He looks his best when he’s out there with Lukai

  7. You said it yourself. Tatum is 12/38 this series. Kai is 13/37. The difference is players 3-8. Plus, Luka can’t turn the ball over 8 times and miss half of his free throws. On that one turnover at half court, Luka didn’t even man up and let his player shoot a wide open 3.

Other than Porzingis, the Celtics bench is weak. The Mavs haven’t taken advantage.

Holiday and White are good defenders but Kyrie doesn’t help things by over-dribbling and forcing up poor shots. The way to attack the Celtics defense is ball movement, and not hero/iso ball.

A question a lot of the nba doesn’t ask is, how badly the trailblazers and wizards have cooked the nba. ainge is out here getting 5-7 first round picks for his players and the trailblazers and wizards got next to nothing for jrue and kristaps respectively.

I hope Kyrie sees a therapist or some guru to remove his mental block, Luka miraculously becomes at least 80% healthy, and the crowd heckles the hell out of Porzingis in Dallas. At this point, it’s not bad to do that just in retaliation for Boston’s heckling — nothing personal, just business. Plus, some divine intervention would help because it’s all really looking not great now

Relax. Like many of you I’ve been watching basketball for a longggg time they handled business on their home court. Now it’s our turn. Buckle up for a long series

  12. I could tell just from the regular season that DJJ should be coming off the bench like he used to on the Bulls. I’ve watched him before on the Bulls. He is not big enough to defend and not a sniper. He is just a dunker. And a waste of the starting position. But what we see is who he is and this is it. We need a sniper who can create his own shot or at least a sniper. He is neither. I don’t care for the bench players. No snipers. Hardy is the only bench guy worth keeping. I am looking ahead and view these games as something for Nico to work on.

Lets hope to the basketball gods we do the bucks route

Boston has 4 guys making +$30M. And Derrick White.

They can have 5 guys on the court who are elite defensively and can make 3s. They can gaurd everyone one on one. And then they’ve got a few decent bench guys.

We’re in the Finals. Let’s not act like our guys suck.

….but also, there are a few obvious upgrades we need.

We just need to win both of our home games by the help of kai and supporting cast.

    MAVS in 7

  16. It’s only 2 games, y’all losing hope quite early.

  17. Luka seemed pretty hurt today, similar to the OKC games. I hope it will get better for next game. Irving NEEDS to step up. DJJ needs to step up as well. Then we can win. Without Irving there is no hope.

I’m not going to be too harsh on our roster construction or our guys in general (except Kyrie because he needs to step up), Boston is that unbelievable. Hopefully with the new 2nd apron penalties coming into play next year they will be forced to move on from this staked team in another year. We will have access to an additional two (?) FRPs after the draft so we might as well go all in and find another piece that can play but this is largely going to be the team going into next year.
