EXPLAIN YOURSELF! Kendrick Perkins details Celtics’ 2-0 Finals lead vs. Mavericks | Get Up

is up shoo thre the big man big perk is minding the paint wy’s got all the Insight Rebecca loo will join us later as well let’s do this thing game two Maverick Celtics in Boston last night Dallas 3 and0 in game twos in this postseason Boston’s only two losses had come in game two and the Mavericks started well last night Allan led by LCA donic Luka donic setting the tone early letting the offense get going 13 points in the first quarter five of seven field goals and the best part was greeny is you knew he was locked in because every shot he made not only is he hopping he’s talking to people he that’s the fans to know it Dallas the early four-point lead m a minute to go Kyrie Irving tough night for him gets this one to fall the Mavs have a three-point lead after one and then the second quarter happened and Drew holiday took over the game it’s amazing this player in the right place at the right time every time he had 18 points in the paint for a guard because he just knew where to be playing off his teammates Jason Tatum with seven assists in that second quarter holiday 17 points at the half Celtics up three at the break middle of the third we go Tatum another quiet night for him offensively but he gets that one to fall things happen when he drives to the basket dbg was saying it last night on the broadcast he’s right and then how about the defense here going the other way yeah this all talk about turnovers 15 fast break points but for Dallas it was more a turnover issue a minute later Celtics leading by 10 it is holiday getting it on the layup he’s up to 23 Celtics at 10 nothing running then pton prer checks himself in for the final seconds yes if it goes he called glass you know what he didn’t just call Glass he called the shot he said I do this this is what I do why would we show it to you if it didn’t go in they’re up by nine going to the fourth quarter now M trying to work it around and get something going go take a look at Chris ABS porzingis this is the one moment for the Celtics you’re concerned about watch them closely here Allan we’ve seen this a million time yeah the left leg you see how he holds it up that tells you something went wrong and we don’t know what exactly it is we’ll find out today but you don’t like seeing Chris house porzingis hobbling if you’re the Celtics MRI coming today meanwhile holiday giving it up and getting it back and knocking down the three off the defensive play he would score 26 on the night 11 of 14 shooting for Drew holiday Celtics up by 11 but Dallas not going away trying to work their way back we’re in the final two minutes here Mavs down by eight there’s Luca he had 32 11 rebounds 11 assists five-point game here we go final minute here’s the biggest play of the game PJ Washington watch the hand in the back from Jaylen Brown we’ll watch it again here look right there straight push in the back as PJ’s going up we know he’s got pogo stick legs for him to be that short on a dunk attemp tells you there’s something more at play but no call was made that’s critical we’ll talk about it in a moment meanwhile Jaylen Brown takes it strong to seal the deal he got 21.7 assists Celtics win game two by a touchdown they’re up two games to none game two Drew talk to me utility guy I’ll do whatever um I’m I’m I’m here to win I feel like they brought me here to win um and and I’ll do my best to do that it wasn’t just all on me but I’m definitely taking a majority of it just because um you know my teammates look to me to convert a lot of these shots and uh ease the burden not only just Luca but everyone else and and settle our team um you know we’ve definitely made our identity on defensive end but now offensively I got to play better all right so you heard in there the thrill of victory in the agony of defeat and we’ll cover both sides we’ll get to Kyrie Irving in a minute but legs let’s start with the Celtics here they take this two nothing lead so much conversation is this Jason Tatum’s team is it Jaylen Brown’s team last night it’s Drew holiday’s team how do you define what we’ve seen through two games from this Boston team yeah Green it’s really kind of amazing to Boston Celtics like the standard are held to it’s not enough to just win it’s how they win right that’s what we’re going to talk about now um Drew listen Drew holiday played an incredibly smart game and I thought in the first half on a night when nobody was making perimeter shots Drew holiday saw all of these different opportunities and angles and driving Lanes to get into the paint and do his damage there he converted his first nine shots in the lane and look some of that speaks to what he was seeing and his ability to find these gaps it also speaks to the backline defense of the Dallas Mavericks and I think the ineffectiveness of Gafford and Lively to’ be Rim protectors in this series to this point uh if Drew holid doesn’t play the way he does in the first half the way they shot the ball it’s likely that they’re down eight or 10 points at halftime and this might feel a lot different to start the second half instead of having a three-point lead in large part simply because of how well he played offensively so give him credit this is what you brought him in here to do he’s a winner it might be because of deals that they made last year June 21st is when they acquired porzingis he won them game one October 1st is when they got Drew holiday he won them game two and that’s really the point I was trying to make big perk with to legs this is not about this team is no longer about well does it have to be him does it have to be brown they’re so good because they can beat you with any of four different players on any given night what did you see last night from the CTIC well look one number one Yannis and the Milwaukee Bucks they’re losing sleep right now okay they gave up on Drew holiday and felt like they got to get better and now all of a sudden he’s with the Celtics making it happen here’s the thing right Drew holiday has really outplayed Kyrie in game one and game two he’s been outplaying Kyrie in this series last night was a prime example of what he brings to the table when you talk about the paint points legs talked about this we’re talking about a Celtic team who live and die by the three but Drew holiday set the tone by going to the paint now when it comes down to the Celtics think about game one think about game two we have seen so many powerful plays out of the Boston Celtics defensively going back to Jaylen brown with a big blocking game one on Kyrie Irving Jaylen brown with another defensive pick up 94 feet on Luca and gets a steal then he back do and gets another steal then he goes verticality with Derek Jones and gets a block on the backline of the defense and then when you think about last night Drew holiday picking up 94 Feet Again forcing to steal L Luca donic and then the last play Derek white one of the plays at the end of the game Derek white coming up huge for a block Dallas are not is not making those plays I cannot think of one moment when we was like oh damn that was a hell of a defensive play they’re just not doing it they’re not getting back in transition they’re not playing with a sense of urgency and you can’t play that way when you’re playing against the Boston Celtics we talked about a team we’ve been waiting on their level of physicality to pick up and are they ready for a tough Western Conference and they have shown Us in these first two games that they don’t have to play well offensively they got a certain level of defense that they could step up to and they could get it done because Drew holiday he got Kyrie Irving in the body bag right now strapping him up well we’ll talk about Kyrie in a minute but as I get to Wendy who was there at at all these games for us last night let me just put up full screen number one Cindy if I can just once again to demonstrate just how well Drew holiday played last night we’re talking about an historically great game he is the ninth player in NBA finals history to put up 25 points and 10 10 rebounds on at least 75% shooting in any NBA Finals game ever of the nine players who’ve everever done it he’s the only one who’s a guard and look at the size you’re talking about seven Footers practically with the exception of of Cedric Maxwell seven Footers across the board that’s the kind of night Drew holiday last night and Wendy it was you who was saying to me in the meeting this morning what what they’re proving in this series is not that they have the best player that they have the best team yeah if you go back and look at what happened two years ago when I was standing here in Boston for the 2022 finals the Celtics never would have had come close to winning a game where Jason Tatum was six of 22 as he was shooting the ball last night but because of the additions of porzingis and Drew holiday their margin for air is a mile wide uh holiday was the number one plus minus player in the 2021 finals when he helped the Bucks win are you surprised for me to tell you he’s the number one player in Plus minus in this series are you surprised for me to tell you that number two is porzingis are you surprised for me to tell you that porzingis and holiday together are the best plus minus duo in this series of all the Duos playing together if this was a three-game series and it was over I would have voted Drew holiday for MVP frankly he would have been an MVP at the Eastern Conference Finals under other scenarios because his stats were that good this team is just so well-rounded that is what’s happened here the Celtics were already a championship ship Contender they have become a dominating Championship favorite because of the impact Drew holiday and porzingis have made and that’s been absolutely UND display in games one and two yeah I would say you know when you look back at at deals made and whatnot first of all as we talk about the Celtics we keep trying to talk about Brown Tatum who’s better we know Jason kid got involved in that as well can we just take a minute and just acknowledge the fact that we are enjoying what is a great team the way this was built Brad Stevens should be MVP right now the way this team has been built the opportunity that Came Upon them Drew holiday I mean think about it the Damen Lillard trade like perk was saying the Damen Lillard trade from Milwaukee ended up being the final championship piece not for Milwaukee but for the Boston Celtics they wanted him and Drew holiday once the Bucks said goodbye he wanted them why get back in the East let me beat you let me get past you show that I have that Championship medal what a great piece he was after they lost a player like Marcus Smart so as we try to make this star versus star and everything else and that’s what the NBA is about let’s talk about a Boston Celtics team that is right now on the verge two two wins away from a championship absolutely and then for every action there is an equal opposite reaction on the other side of this thing Kyrie Irving as we mentioned briefly and we’ll now get into has been really struggling let’s put big perks tweet from last night up there with apologies to our friend Ryan Clark we’ll play a quick game of of explain your Tweet Kendrick Perkins tweeting last night Kyrie hasn’t made it to the finals yet big perk explain that tweet what do you want me to start but seriously though greeny Kyrie Irving has been horrible in this PO in his finals right now and in order for the Dallas Mavericks to even have a chance of winning he just he just have to elevate his game and make shots offensively and here’s the thing right last night if Kyrie Irving just plays a little bit above average they win this they win that game last night he’s just been awful he’s struggling to find his rhythm and a part of that is the length the size the athleticism of the Boston Celtics and the perimeter defense he got to find a way to get going because although Luca might be is I mean well not might be is their best player Kyrie Irving is the heart and soul of this team and they feed off of his energy if it’s not going and he’s not engaged for as his leadership and what he could bring to the on the floor for us putting the ball in the basket is going to be a ripple of and we’ve seen that in game one and game two the old expression Styles make fights is this just a bad matchup for Kyrie going up against all that length and all those good perimeter Defenders that Boston has well greeny the only thing I’ll say to that is Kyrie Irving has seen length and and and versatile Defenders and an elite Defender his entire career I think he’s being indecisive I don’t think he’s I don’t think he’s taking actions when he gets certain switches and certain matchups where he is absolutely in this aggressive mindset to score I think he’s overthinking the game right now and there’s no doubt everything perk said is true you know Kyrie Irving I think earlier in this in the playoffs Luca donic said about him that he felt he was letting Kyrie down I think that was in the Clipper series I think Kyrie Irving probably feels exactly the same way now his comments after the game uh indicated that last night he has to be better look it’s one thing to not win maybe if you get a switch against to Jaylen Brown who’s an elite level Defender with size and strength but he’s not even winning the switches when he had last night against pton Pritchard he’s not winning the switches against christops porzingis where he’s putting him in his rearview mirror and getting to the rim I just don’t think right now Kyrie is in a great place like free of mind to go just play the way he wants to maybe a change of venue will be good for Kyrie Irving because they can’t they can’t win a game in this series unless Kyrie Irving imprints it and so far he has not [Music]

  1. Tatum always has his best game on the road. Plus we don’t care about MVPs. We care about trophies in Boston. Tatum played awesome yesterday. Great defense on Luca too. Nearly triple double. Like I said, from the beginning, the Celtics are a horrible matchup for Dallas. I wish all the people that said my comment would not age well. Would come and say something now lol.

  2. If the bucks traded all those Draft picks for some really good veteran players, they would probably be in the finals right now. Instead, they gave up their future for one person. I was one of the only few people saying that was such a dumb trade. It’s not like they were getting 25 year-old Damian Lillard.

  3. ❤ JRUE IS MVP 🐐, NOW THAT JRUE IS SURROUNDED BYE GREAT ROLE PLAYERS IN BROWN N TATUM , HE WILL WIN HIS 2ND TITLE

  4. When kyrie Irving hears the boo's, he goes into this conundrum of unnecessary dribbling freak maniac mode…. then bricks the shot 😴😴😴

  5. Nothing to explain/detail. The Mavs were the 5 seed for a reason. Outside of Luka and Kyrie, this team is average. Bottom line & Luka is hurt again. Easiest path for a playoff team in NBA history that I can remember

  6. Kyrie WHERE TF ARE YOU!?!? So done with his passiveness, all that work just to go back to his shell in the FINALS

  7. The Celtics cannot shot worst from the three and they still won. Mav vans know they are in serious trouble. It’s hard to win when you can’t score a 100 points and only one player comes to play. The Celtics have complete team. Kyrie is 0-12 against the Celtics and the Celtics are 4-0 against the Mavs. Let’s end this thing.

  8. I never thought Legs of all people would be making excuses for dallas, kyrie is flat out getting clamped and he does not like the physicality

  9. Boston won two at home but it was close late. If I'm in the Dallas locker room I'm not worried yet. Kyrie to score more like 30 probably but he is capable. This ain't over yet by a long shot.

  10. It's the celtics year. We all know they want luka to win so they can create a fake narrative about how he is the best player in the league. But i am so glad that the nba has gone back to the best team in the league it is a joy to see more than one player or a super 3 win the game. At any night, any player on the celtics can win the game for them. That is what the sports is about. We have different teams each year, making the finals and competing just the same old ones every year, making the game boring.

  11. This series just proves that triple doubles do not guarantee you anything. Having multiple talented players that knows how to defend is what matters.

  12. Kyrie left Luka high and dry. I’ll say again if Luka N kyrie don’t average 30 plus points is over in 4 or 5. Mavs simply don’t have enough offense to offset Boston.

  13. In order for Dallas to secure victory, it is imperative that their two exceptional players perform at their utmost potential. Regrettably, I do not foresee such an occurrence transpiring.

  14. From legends like TMac, Paul, VC, JVG to dimwits like Perk and Hahn. Please, ESPN, you cheap fu*ks, spend a few dollars.

  15. It's not length for kyrie….. his moves can't be contested… he need to make shots that's it… no one on can guard him on Celtics

  16. This a complete team. Holiday is underrated he won’t give you 50 it he is a all around player that affects the game

  17. Easy road to the finals they said.
Well I will take an easy road to the finals all day and every day. A win is a win so longs u eh cheat to get it. CELTICS IN 4.
