jry Garner you know we get it it’s the W effect and it’s impacting it again but Markin and Wy would be a nice onew punch wouldn’t it seriously two seven Footers that can do what they can do together on the same team in San Antonio that’d be awesome but we’re gonna be discussing that in just a few minutes if you’re the Spurs who would you throw the bag at though would you throw it all at a Lori Markin or would you target a guard yeah we’re going be discussing that anym but there’s your quick uh update on the Oaker Sid yeah they they see the Spurs as being the next stop for marketing if Utah decides to trade him another Spurs news hey I’ve been talking about this last week in case you missed it I had a chance to talk to several well NBA draft prospects and I spoke to tajan Saloon and the least at least didn’t have any contact with the Spurs but uh there’s a report author the Spurs will finally be working him out and he also said that he sees Wim bayama as an inspiration so uh he’s an entering the draft those are rare and uh it definitely fits the Spur’s needs uh around eight is where he’s kind rejected that 8 to 10 to 12 range so not a surprise if the Spurs would pick him but it’s just interesting to see that if the Spurs are select them you know that that’s is that a sign that their rebuilding is still going on I think that could be a sign that they’re trying to hurry it up a oh the Spurs are chasing Darius Garland oh Vegas has the Spurs as the top team for Lori marketing calm down calm down pler we know we know but the game is you can only pick one if you were the GM only could pick one who would you throw the B to get into San Antonio next season James I’ll start with you you are the guest and I I’m pretty sure it should not be a surprise to anybody who you would pick what do you got James who you throw in the bag at everybody knows that I love Lori marinin right um I’ve been clamoring for him since he was in Chicago and I really thought he was going to be a part of the Demar D rozan trade H which would have been perfect M he and Victor Wim like just imagine because of his ability a with the ball and B his ability to create for himself yet still shoot like the pick and roll the pick and pop game between the two of them where they can just get whatever big that they want to switch onto them to eviscerate them on a consistent basis like that’s holy cow just the the possibilities offensively and then just also the size that you bring and marinan is underrated as a Defender um he actually does defend decently for you know uh the fours and and his skill set and his ability to switch I mean it gives you so much versatility and diversity offensively and defensively if you’re to add a Lori Markin yeah that said this team really does need a point guard and a guy that can you know get Victor wanyama the ball in his spots and you know also be a threat offensively the way gar Garland is um it comes down to price really if if you’re looking at it in a realistic manner it’s going to come down to the price and dealing with Danny a in Utah seemingly just gets so much draft capital for everything that he trades every time he pulls a trade whether it was when he was in Boston or whether it was in Utah I mean remember what he got for Rudy goar and all of us looked at that went my good Lord are you serious so if the the cheaper option which I I lean towards he probably would be would be darious Garland in terms of just how much it will cost you in return to acquire him unless Danny a isn’t looking to just like we’re keeping him unless we get a got father oper which is I believe what they are doing sham shirani everybody else at Le with Garland and this is the thing to keep an eye on what happens with Donovan Mitchell right that’s that’s the rumor that’s out there that’s kind of just kind of bypassed over everybody’s just talking about Darius Garland you can go get Darius Garland well the rumor from Shams and the athletic and everybody else is if Mitchell signs an extension with Cleveland this off seon then they may be looking to move or Garland’s agent will be looking for him to move on from Cleveland and if that’s the case then garem would be the cheaper option in terms of a it is the player and the agent trying to get him out of that situation not the team so it kind of changes the dynamic of how much it would cost and B if you’re throwing that kind of a bag at Donovan Mitchell to keep him Cleveland you’re obviously probably looking to offset and uh really kind of manage your cap in terms of going into the luxury tax because you’ve got Jared Allen you’re gonna end up having to pay EV Evan Moy at some point yeah Darius Garland’s already getting uh a pretty good siiz chunk on his second deal like the at some point if you’re going to throw that kind of money around and you’re team like Cleveland how willing especially if you wanten a championship Contender year in year out when the season begins are you willing to put into that team and go into that luxury tax threshold that Dan Gilbert would be going in so to me the cheaper option just because of who you’re dealing with in the front office the acquisition would be at Darius Garland unfortunately for me which would swing me that way but let’s not get it twisted it’s not like the Spurs don’t have the off uh the assets to be able to do both they can they yes they can yeah and we’re talking about marketing here 27 years old just entering his 27 just entering his prime years career averages of 18.1 points per game 1.5 assists 46% shooting from the field 38% from the three line stretch big the Spurs need athletic being that the Spurs need to pair with wbi yeah the asking price for me is ultimately what’s going to you know sway me either Garland or mark But if I had to pick one if I’m throwing the bag out I’m going with Darius Garland I think you hit on the head the Spurs need a point guard ASAP Robert Ory was on the blitz with the on the San postar he flat out said no this team needs a point guard flat out just right that is the top of his list when he was with the Blitz and he said point one does it have to be even a veteran just get a quality point guard I think Garland fits the bill on that so if I’m throwing the bag I’m throwing it at Garland because even if you’re getting Markin in you still need somebody to give the guy the ball you still that Markin is not at a one you still need that quarterback on the on the court you need that engine that motor that piece that that that key to get things going and here’s the thing with Garland I think a fresh address will do do him well because playing behind Mitchell he had to play behind Colin seon and I think for him to be thrusted into the main guy at the PG spot I think that’ll do well for him so if I’m throwing the bag uh pler I’m throwing that at Garland uh I it’s hard to disagree with that but remember there it’s not like this trade’s the only thing that can happen if Chris Paul gets bought out here in the next few weeks and becomes a free agent you can acquire a point guard like that you can acquire a tus Jones uh the Washington and brother of Trey Jones who is a veteran point guard like there are multiple ways you can still go acquire a point guard to kind of handle that situation if you were to go get a mark in if that’s the direction that you know they would or do go which God please think please please please to put on a a market in Spurs jersey aren’t you you would wear one proudly wouldn’t you oh abely absolutely absolutely just for the sheer factor of just willingness into existence for for like five years now yeah peder’s not kidding he has been on the marketing train for as he said years just years and here’s the thing a marketing salary due next year is 18 18.0 so it’s good number it’s a good a really good number that’s a good number and then even if things don’t work out in San Antonio that’s a flippable contract right there with a star name attached to it Pledger and they’re both onetime All Star so I mean it’s you’re acquiring the same person basically different you know they’re both averaging 18ish points a game both of them are shooting above 35% from three so but but it’s the dynamic of the length the athleticism and their ability to create from the four and five position uh offensively and what you could potentially do with something like just I I have recently ever since the marketing thing came up again and it’s gotten me back like to oh this could be a potential and then you see batas like oh they’re the favorites if if he does become if he becomes available you know if the Jazz were to make him available there’s that c got the Spurs odds at plus 600 that leaves the pack leads the pack by about 300 yeah and it’s not just that because both of these are Acquisitions that are they hinge on something marinin there’s the caveat if the Jazz were to make him available Garland if Donovan Mitchell signs an extension this offseason because let’s face it they’re not going to want to move on from Garland if Mitchell’s not get hang around like why would you offset a a young upand cominging star if your you know potential fa that could be the potential face of your franchise if the the face that you have right now is ready to leave and go to New York and I I know Donovan Mitchell to San Antonio gets a lot of talk this off season just because oh if you don’t want to be in Cleveland what if you well he don’t want to be in Utah either and he don’t want to be in Cleveland well makes you think he wants to be in San Antonio the guy wants to go to New York he’s been trying to get to New York for a long time he’s from New York and he wants to kind of be in a big market like that’s what it feels like from the outside it’s his his desire is to get to a big Market to try and win championships or at least just be the star in a massive market like New York that just feels like what Donovan Mitchell is after and I don’t know if I’ve won aart ways with assets to acquire somebody that may be a short-term rental especially the type of assets it would be if you’re talking about Donovan Mitchell which is why aen Garland which is why Markin and those are guys that feel like they’re perfectly fine in whatever situation they’re in and they will make the best of that situation and and let’s not yeah blow past the preference the uh partiality pop has towards European players I know he played college at Arizona but marinan is an international he is yep yeah and you saw the dynamic with wimy and Mamu last year that International flare I think even Mamu I’m sorry wimy even brought it up he even said yeah I think we get each other a little bit more because we’re used to that International play we understand a little each other a little more so so there’s that too but I was going to ask you before we hit the break in this game we’re having Garland versus marinin who would you throw the bag at is it almost a win-win scenario for example they threw the bag of marketing oh great they throw the money okay fine you know is it are we there or you still kind of leaning one way at this point yes it’s a win-win because you’re requiring a star you’re requiring a star regardless of what happens at that point and that’s really what we want the Spurs to do is build around Victor WN Bama and no matter which piece you go with you are building around Victor win Bama and his skill set with someone that would hopefully complement it very very well so I mean what have we talked about most of this off season you know will they do something will they do something are they gonna stand Pat use their draft picks and build this thing out you know praying that that these draft picks hit enough of them to turn you into a contender in two three years when they develop into what they’re supposed to be a lot of fans don’t want to wait and no matter which way you go with one of those you’re not waiting you’re you’re pressing fast forward in a sense on your uh rebuild on your build around the star that is Victor wanyama and that’s really all Spurs fans really want is James is from Eric parales he says we either we’re either getting Rob Dillingham or nicoa Topic at 4 Dalton connect at 8 if they are there what do you think about those picks um Dillingham four or topic both feel to me uh connect SE eight 789 that’s kind of where connect is falling right now but in terms especially with the news of his partially torn ACL uh great reporting by Jeff Garcia of locked on Spurs um uh that was huge um that could you could get topich at eight now because of that I think uh I don’t know how many people are going to be willing to because it it partially torn torn whatever it may be there is a lengthy rehab process that goes with that with a guy that already has a lot of injury questions and concerns in the first place I think that could really drop his stock down to the later half of the lottery the you know 6 S 8 9 10 11 12 like somewhere in that area I think that could affect his draft stop negatively because of it the one thing that I don’t get is the people that are like oh man you can’t get to topic he’s he can’t shoot blah blah blah they need to go if he’s available go get a Josh giddy he’s the same guy toic is giddy pled get all red up there hey what what do you think about Dalton though at eight are you okay with Dalton at eight if if that yeah I mean it’s a shooter uh Dalton connect uh Reed Shepard two of the best Shooters in this draft class uh connect would give you that three maybe four you know we were talking about marketing and the things that he could bring canect can bring similar attributes probably not as athletic not as uh capable of scoring uh and creating his own the same way that a marketing is but he definitely provides something that the Spurs need and that’s shooting and he shoots at a very high clip from behind the art so I mean connect I at eight I like if I was at four dilling ham even topic now with the injury those are early for me but at the same instance if I say this in the NFL draft all the time like especially with quarterback if if you believe that’s the guy and he’s gonna be your quarterback of the future you don’t mess around you don’t trade down and try and get cute you take your guy I don’t care if it’s eight and it seems high if you think he’s a dude get him and so that if the Spurs believe he’s a dude you don’t mess around you get them but for me at 4 I would be more apt to go for if I’m looking at point guard of Stefon Castle right now out of Yukon Yeah by way you were saying dude right now you reminded me of Deonte Murray dude that’s all he would say you remember that it’s all I remember it’s the way it’s the it’s the double O dude it’s dude dude all right thank you for that comment there just a quick um I guess bonus comment I guess a 1A this is from we’ll get to the the route um maybe um to me especially you know with with players it’s it’s about starting the clock on your next contract you’re trying to get to your next contract so you can get the bag right um so you start the clock if you spend the first year or half the year injured guess what much like what we saw with chat holgren he didn’t play his rookie year but he got a lot of valuable experience and looked very V like he in any other year chat homri would have been the Rookie of the Year Without a question hands down but he just happened to be a freakish year were one of the greatest prospects of all time who truly lived up to that height was also in that class but because he had that year to learn be in the system be in an NBA weit room weight program training film study like getting used to the leag like he had all of these things at his disposal which I think made him a much better rookie quote unquote this year than he would have been had he played last year and not got hurt so I’m I’m a big believer in get in start your work and you can escalate to a that next contract quicker B just acclimate to the game faster absolutely all right the next comment is from Jamar lg9 o all right get you might want to take notes with this so he has kind of a weaved in trade scenarios there it is okay I’ll go real slow Spurs should trade try Jones and a 203 first round pick all this where you probably throw your hands up in the air for k cuso Caruso kin Johnson two second rounds to Atlanta 2027 pick back for DJ for D Murray I’m tell you this a complicated one okay wait wait go go back to the Atlanta part real quick so what are we doing for Murray all right start off again so Spurs to try Trey Jones and a 2030 first round for Caruso that’s the first okay I got that part the next one trade Kelvin Johnson in two second rounds and Atlanta’s 2 2027 pick uh back I guess back to Atlanta Deonte Murray so I guess he’s sending in this scenario Coden Johnson and two second rounds and their first back for DJ um and then trade oh good lord This is complicated then it’s fine I’m with you okay then trade trade brandom and a second for this year oh I see what he’s doing so he’s saying Make a Deal to acquire dejonte Murray okay yeah yeah yeah and you’re only giving up one first and it’s not even the 2025 which is the big draft it’s the other first round pick yeah and then after you get that done so now you got Murray and then tack on brandom um a second round pick all right and then one of your one of the Spurs first picks first picks to get SAR this year okay so you’re trying to trade up to one they’re trying to trade up to one okay so what are you doing with Atlanta you’re giving up what to get to one hel Johnson two second rounds giving Atlanta back their 2027 pick okay and then and four and eight I’m guessing and four yeah and Trade four right and then throw in uh brandom all right and a second another second round pick just for number one to uh and their go at least this guy Jamar his goal is to get SAR in the SP uniform okay um couple of things I get I get the Caruso thing he gives you a guard he brings defensive intensity and he can spread the floor like I I I kind of get the Caruso thing um 2030 is just so far away um the deante thing I will address I don’t think that gets you deante Kellin in the first and a couple of seconds isn’t getting you dejonte Murray back uh in my opinion like they gave up two firsts and a and a first pick swap so 25 26 and 27 you’ve got a first a swap and a first uh from them I doubt they’re giving him back for Kellin a first and some seconds um I imagine they can get more from him from other teams that may be interested like La um or other teams in the NBA also in the move uh in the market for a point guard I could I I don’t see that getting that deal done and in terms of moving up to one I don’t think four Rand second another second another second round pick 20 20 20277 yeah was that for Murray or was it I thought 27 was for Murray is he trying to carry 27 to them twice is it AR 27 the way the way it’s written it sounds like it but just for this just for for argument sake let’s just sorry Jamar we’re going to TW your your comment a little bit let’s just say that was the second play okay fine this deal doesn’t work Atlanta what about throwing in the 2020 so you’re throwing in your four this year which is guaranteed a lottery Pick and a future one of some sort yeah and then Brandon and a second round pick maybe it gets it done I don’t know for certain it gets it done but like do you do you want to keep wimy at the five I mean he played extremely well at the five so why are you trying to bring in another five like yeah yeah yeah because SAR SAR is a five right like a he’s a five right I mean he might be able but you know his shooting’s not great he’s more known for his defensive ability yeah uh than anything and his ability to kind of handle and and create a little bit for himself uh it’s not on a Wy level but like Wy minus um I I think it would take more to get up to one than that yeah let’s just say Atlanta does it I don’t think SAR would be my target though if I the GM I would say okay thank you Atlanta we love your deal now what do you want Rea share yeah I think I would be looking for just players outside of a five that will fit well with wimy whether it’s Ray um I mean who’s I mean this this draft is so I like Donovan kingan you’re I’m just about to tell you that I was about to throw you that right now I G say kingan would be kind of like my next after Ray just all right clinging come on I think this would work so and he’s another big but he’s I think kinging can be what you were hoping Zach Collins was yeah in terms of just brute strength in the middle and also the ability to kind of step out a little bit has a little offensive game to him um best case scenario he’s Zack right um but I mean he he he provides size he provides protection for wimy in a sense in the low block so um yeah I mean there are other players I would Target other than SAR at one just because you have a wh but if and I say this all the time in the NBA though if you believe that dude’s going to be a dude like I don’t care if you’ve got five centers on your roster get another one because they’re flippable assets look what happened with halberton and dear and fox and look what happened with Miles Turner and sabonis all of a sudden you find them you flip them and you found a trade that worked great for both parties involved because they had a gluttony of guards they had a glut of bigs they met and were like here I’ll give you one of our guards for one of your bigs and they’re like cool match made in heaven for both teams right so I and there’s nothing more valuable in the NBA than having a superstar period I so if you have multiple centers fine if he’s gonna be a dude he’s I’ve never been of the we need a point guard we need to draft a point guard no in the dra you
