8 players for the Utah Jazz at #10 in the Draft. The Bracket starts now

it’s time to narrow the focus there’s eight players to discuss at 10: and frankly there’s probably eight players to discuss the bottom of the draft and we’re doing it next un locked on Jazz you are locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of the locked on podast cats Network your team every day how are you I am David lock radio voice the Utah Jazz Jazz MBA Insider and today on locked on Jazz there are eight players that are clearly to be discussed at number 10 actually think eight players to discuss at 28 with probably both of them available at 8 or 32 give me a little leeway on that last one CU wild cards can pop in different draft strategies who knows if we actually pick there all those different kind of things along the way for you so we’ll look at all of those plus we’ll review what we thought was going to be important in the NBA finals and what actually has been important in the NBA Finals if time permits and we’re going to launch our bracket today with some voting if you listen on YouTube you’ll have a chance to vote on our bracket um or you can stop by and visit on that how are you I’m David lock radio voice the Utah Jazz Jazz NBA Insider and this is locked on Jazz it’s your daily podcast on Utah Jazz give you Insight expertise geeky numbers and hopefully making it way better to be a jazz fan each and every day thank you so much for making on YouTube thanks very much we’re also on demand on Amazon Fire TV all right let’s get to it here are the eight and this is should I just reveal the seating right away here are the eight that I think we should discuss that have a chance to be available and then I will break down each of them and then we will and I will give them to you by seating and matchup so I think the eight are Rob Dillingham Dalton connect let me back up a step here’s what I see rasher Shay SAR Donovan kingan Reed Shepard Matias pulus stepen castle if we want them we’re gonna have to go get them that that to me is clear rashash Shay SAR Clingan Shephard bazus castle if we want them we have to go get them there’s one more player in there now it’s interesting about this is I don’t know if we want any of them rashay looks to be the first pick of the draft I have not seen him beat anybody off the dribble he’s got a low vertical jump he does I’m not super excited from him I need to watch him again SAR everyone is kind of soured on I feel like we might have gone the other way on a little bit but he’s made the number two pick of the draft he’s big he’s not that Dynamic he hasn’t played that hard people are worried his brother oliv Olivia SAR has kind of bounced around the league kingan’s the big huge Connecticut Center 723 massive huge body has all the concerns that a big guy has in this day and age in the league but really is going to be able to impact take up size be important frankly watch he’s not as mobile as pingos but obviously we’re seeing what if you’re mobile and that big how big it is Reed Shepard’s really super he has Collegiate numbers that nobody else has had in all of our time we’ve talked about him a lot I’m big into him he’s the one I might go get he’s only 6’2 I I think I might be willing to gamble on it though I was have said for a year and a half I wouldn’t take anyone 6’4 or smaller or smaller than 6’4 and bazus i’ gotta watch again he was a g-league player last year he long 68 not does not seem to be an a lead athlete plays really well off the ball did not see anything on the ball cutter mover I guess that’s the strength I’d like to see him beat a guy off a bounce I’d like to see I I didn’t see it I was stunned honestly watching two g-league games one with Ron Holland one without that that was the player that people were talking about and then Stephen Castle Yukon star can’t shoot right now but he’s got the ability to switch and defend and you see Drew holiday and Derrick White busting people in the NBA finals and you have this vision of him being able to do that problem is those guys can both shoot so the question is will he ever be able to shoot at that level and my data in the opening year would say no okay there’s one player I don’t know what to do with and that’s Salone who’s this 18-year-old Frenchman who I kind of want to put him in our bracket but I also think he’s gonna like in the next week be talked about his top three in which case then we don’t see him he’s the hot guy right now because he’s new he’s got a great body in fact he’s if you’re talking about like Wing players which is rashash Sha rashash and bazus in this draft I think he’s got a better body moves better stronger looks physically more imposing out on the court I don’t think he gets to 10 I think there’s zero chance he gets to 10 so I’ve included him in this group which leaves us with the following in no particular order I’ll give you the seating in a moment Rob Dillingham nicoa topic topet topic Ron Holland Cody Williams Devin Carter Dalton connect Jared McCain and we got to take an eighth I have to say I love like Bob Carrington out of Pittsburgh of all the games I’ve watched and I actually wasn’t really watching him he popped off the screen to me there’s something I really liked out of him I’ve only watched him once I need to watch him again but I think the right guy is jacobe Walter to put into the e seed of our bracket so those are the eight players that I have at number 10 okay let me break down a little bit of each of them strengths and weaknesses if you’ve been with me every day you probably know a lot of this I appreciate you if you don’t you’re new to it you’re just picking up because the draft is coming great so Bob Dillingham is a point guard played at Kentucky last year highly sought of prospect minuscule like super tiny 170 pounds and this by the way this draft maybe more than any other I’ve ever been around is going to be a an example of what it is that you don’t what weakness can you handle right I really no truly each of these players has a butt statement to them and so it’s a question of what can you handle so Dillingham is was the 16th ranked recruit in the country went to Kentucky played a lot played 23 minutes A Night Under Cal Perry played all 32 games of freshman he averaged 15 points three rebounds four assists and he shot it he shot 44% from three on five he’s 61 won 170 lbs to put this in perspective 170 PBS Darius Garland is 175 and Trey young Darius Garland was 175 out of college he’s 190 now and Trey Young’s probably about 175 so he’s really small he’d be the small if he’s a starting point guard in the NBA he’d be the smallest starting point guard in the NBA honestly that’s hard for me almost too hard um I think he probably plays in leag he reminds me a little bit and this is like these are the things that actually get me nervous about some of these guys he reminds me of Sacramento’s Keon Ellis who’s an undrafted Prospect and then I look up Keon Ellis and Keon Ellis is 66 175 pounds Dillingham can can shoot it far better than Keon Ellis ever could Keon Ellis’s college career at Alabama he shot at 39 and 37% but he his second year he averaged 12 points six rebounds for a 66 guy he’s I mean he was a pretty good player so that’s Dillingham Dillingham will match up in our brackets against the R8 seed which is jacobe Walter Jobe Walters 65 195 out of Baylor he only shot 38% from the field and 34% from three I watched him in an early season game and really liked him and then someone said to me like go check out his conference play in Big 10 conference play this year jacobe Walter shot 32% from the floor and 29% from three 32% from the field 29.7% from three ug like it went ay as the season went on he was big 10 all freshman and frankly his last game against Clemson in the tournament he has 19 and 20 in the two tournament games he looks all right but boy does he have a stretch where it all falls apart I mean you come he comes back from Christmas break which they don’t really get and from January 1st to March 15th in the college tournament he does he shoots 32% and 29% from three that’s basically that was his conference season had decent game against BYU he had 22 against Texas interestingly he went to the free throw line in five five different games 10 times or more okay well that’s pretty interesting so our bracket I’ll put the poll question up on YouTube for our first vote Rob Dillingham versus jacobe Walker Walter jacobe Walter is 65195 so Dillingham is a lightning fast little point guard Blows By people gets things done makes his shots super quick speed super small 170 pounds defensively probably gonna struggle jacobe Walter is was the eighth highest recruit in the country went to Baylor really couldn’t shoot it does have some skills might need to watch him again you need to watch all these guys again but what’s your thoughts all right that’s our first brackup of our eight our next match up is awesome I’m not sure who I take we’ll talk about it when we come back actually our final three brackets are pretty great this is fun love draft time we’re just getting started on locked on Jazz locked on Jazz today brought to you by our mean I know everyone’s there everyone’s covering big names all that cover watch those guys they’re great um yeah just promise you also lockdown sports today 247 on your Amazon Fire TV or on YouTube locked on sports today um all right here’s the plan by the way I’m in this week we’ll do the brackets Leaf to lean takes next week I might stop by I don’t think so my daughter’s playing a golf tournament in north northern California I’m going to go go to it and then see my parents do some stuff then I’ll be back for draft week we have a three-hour draft Jazz plus draft show coming your direction as well so that’s the plan kind of great you get Leaf next week actually all right this matchup is awesome this match up is Ron and if I can get two poll questions up at the same time on YouTube which I don’t know if I can I will have this one up as well Ron Holland against Cody Williams they’re really similar this is kind of your Wing decision so Ron Holland is only 18 years old he’s out of the g-league he grew up in Duncanville Texas he was the number two High School recruit in the country Ron Holland so he went straight to the g- league he’s got every Accolade he’s McDonald’s All-American he’s Nike hoop summer he’s Texas Gatorade Player of the Year averaging 201102 and two in high school takes his high school team to 29 and one as a senior he wins the State title as a sore he’s everything he’s probably right on edge of being the number one if not number two probably the number one pick in the NBA draft out of high school he goes to the g-league he plays 33 minutes he scores 21 points he only plays 14 games he gets hurt he plays a little point guard it’s all sounds fabulous couldn’t shoot it 24% from three 76% from the free throw line I love my numbers he’s really bad on them I don’t know that I could pass on him this is how you make draft mistakes I’m 100% aware of this is that you get in this position you look at the draft you ignore the numbers you look at the body you look at all of it and you say he’s got a chance to hit and I think you make mistakes when you try to make a guy hit when at 10 you should just be trying to find a player but he ran 93 pick and rolles last year in the G league and he was fine at it at 68 spot a percentile was the 30th percentile catch and shoot percentile was the 14th percentile off the bound shooting was the 17th percentile never had someone with those bad numbers put it together you’re going to have to decide whether you just think the G league is a bad experience 171 transition attempts the g-league ignite were just terrible Cody Williams Brothers Jaylen Williams of Oklahoma City should that impact our decisions it feels like it does he’s a little older he’s also 19 he’s also 67 and a half he’s 190 Ron Holland’s 216 I’m going to guess looking at Jaylen Williams of Oklahoma City the good one that Cody Williams is going to fill out Cody Williams at Colorado with a big Behemoth Center sitting in the middle of the paint on every beeping play is kind of a catch and shoot non- dribble guy but I don’t know that that’s what he is there were two guys on Colorado DeSilva who had the ball in his hands a lot of time and then this big huge heaping Center that took all sorts of space and couldn’t run and it seemed like a really bad mix for him on a fairly average team and so he doesn’t really get all that time I think the center was lampin he 611 300 lbs like what are you supposed to do um and he played lampin played like every minute of and against Marquette in their final game of the year in the that lampin played like 35 36 minutes something crazy Cody Williams shot 55% from the field and 42% from three on a an attempt in a half a game and 59% on twos playing 28 minutes a game he played 24 games and he got hurt along the way he had a nasal fracture he had this he had that and he slowed down now you go look at kind of his start of the year and some of these are not against the best teams in the league and I think you you get right before his no nasal fra so you have about 11 game stretch he shoots 61% from the field 57% from three he averages 17 points four rebounds and two assists there’s a Richmond in there who’s not terrible an Iona a Pepperdine but he’s really rolling and then he gets hurt and he comes back on February 8th and he’s never he never here’s the one that’s interesting to me and I always look at this he never gets more than 10 shots in another game for the rest of the year he took 10 12 13 13 10 13 10 10 and then he comes back with his mask on and his injury and I’m not entirely sure that he didn’t get frozen out by his teammates I thought the same thing happened to Keon last year go look at Keon’s game log at Baylor last year he has these big days and then all of a sudden he doesn’t G time so your next match up there is Ron Holland vers Cody Williams number two recruit in the country both six8 both lanky both check every physical match Holland a little better because a little bigger Cody Williams with the fifth biggest recruit in the country Holland was the second who are you voting for Ron Holland or Cody Williams okay here’s our next matchup Nicole atopic who’s been much of the conversation he’s a 66 guard who now has questionable wingspan it was supposedly 7 feet now it’s 67 that really matters who did not shoot the three well but is very good downhill driver he’s played in The Adriatic League last year he’s um from the Baltic states uh he gets downhill gets to the basket super touch did not shoot it well 32% from three little nerve-wracking there question of whether he’s going to be able to defend but he’s young and he has a torn ACL so he’s out for next year you don’t get him at all next year I don’t care about that you can decide he’s 18 years old when he falls to the Thunder you’re G to kick yourself his dad played for the Yugoslavian national team and there is a little question just on what is kind of shooting is right like that’s probably the biggest question of all to who he is his shooting from three has been in his career over 28 games since of of basketball International play is 25% from three I would not draft him his ACL would not bother me the 25% from three would be why I would not draft him our next player that he’s going up against in an interesting matchup of point guards I didn’t even do this on person on purpose is Devin Carter Devin Carter’s dad is Anthony Carter he played in the NBA for a little bit Devin Carter started his career at South Carolina and then after one year where he actually was pretty good in like per 40 minute numbers he averaged 19 points a game he just didn’t play a great deal he then went to Providence for two years and was really good this last year he averaged 20 points a game he shot 38% from three he’s 6’3 188 he plays off plays really hard on the skill set of playing hard he’s got it he has bounced around he went to Cherry Creek Colorado High School then he went to Dural Academy then he went to Brewster then he went to South Carolina then he went to Providence little concerned he’s never unpacked as we talk about he’s mature he’s older he is that good or bad I don’t know he’s 22 years old my guess is he plays in the NBA I’m not sure he ever starts which might be fine as 10th pick of the draft his pick and roll ball handle was in the 89th percentile and 151 pick and rolls he’s got great pacing great change of pace great understanding Spott up was in the 70th percentile catch and shoot was in the 86th the numbers love him 73% off the bounds Devin Carter or Nica topic all right we got one more it’s not as fun a positional battle but it’s our last one for a bracket of the eight for number 10 we’ll continue on lock on Jazz today’s edition of locked on jazz is brought to you by LinkedIn any small business owner out there knows that hiring takes a great deal of time I love the hiring process but boy it took all week job for free that’s linkedin.com lockon NBA to post your job for free terms and conditions do apply all right thank you very much for making lockdown Jazz your first listen as I mentioned Leaf to lean of lockdown NBA big board has next week our final matchup another kind of fun one probably would been more fun if we had Devin Carter slide down a seting we could have the two old guys go against each other Dalton connect who is a six foot5 6 foot six I think this really matters I really wish D connect with Kyle corver 68 Doug mcdermit 68 I would feel much better about him who had an unbelievable year at Tennessee he played he’s super old though played two years at Northeastern college junior college in Colorado then he went to Northern Colorado for two years and then he went up last year against at Tennessee and he smoked people it’s a little unnerving because of the fact that he starts to beat up people when he’s 22 years old going up against 18y olds he’s now 23 he is 20 at Northern Colorado in his second year he has a great great year and he averages 20 points a game so he transfers to Tennessee and then he has another great year and he shoots 40% from three on six and a half attempts a three it’s great my nervousness on him is he’s inch or to shorter than I’d like him to be I’d like him to be a little bit taller he’s I guess he’s listed at 66204 depending on where you read of SE some places say 65 the other is the H that like I just wish he like this reminds me of Wesley Johnson who kicked everyone’s butt and then got to col got to the pros and then he he wasn’t that good connect measured the 69 wingspan and 65 and a quarter without shoes so 66 um and the feeling is he’s really going to be able to shoot it and shooting it matters right they’re to me and Dalton connect as is the case in all of these guys just so many red flags and the biggest one is 23 like I just you can feel it in what I’m talking about I’m having a hard time getting over that he’s going up against and I think this one’s fascinating Jared McCain and I really like Jared McCain when I watch Jared McCain at Duke who’s the 12th highest rated High School Prospect in the country he’s 631 197 I thought he looked like Jaylen Brunson light he I thought he anticipated everything correctly there are some concerns I saw him get blown by a few times defensively that his feet just don’t move he’s not an elite athlete he shot 41% from three 89% from the free throw line had 14 points he had five rebounds a game for guy was six 63 he did not get to have the ball in his hands as much as I would have liked at Duke there were other guys who had the ball in his hands I would have liked it very much if he could have played the first two games I watched him I loved him the third game I thought he was rather mundane and I thought he was getting blown by and that was a little disturbing which is why he’s not a top 10 pick though he has seemed to be bouncing around as high as top 10 and then there’s a little bit of a funky thing on him which is that he was a year older than he should have been his entire career so he’s 20.4 years old Rob dillingham’s 19.5 and they’re both freshman Cody Williams 19.6 Jared McCain’s 20.4 as I said Kyle filipowski and Jared McCain are basically the same age and filipowski is a sophomore so McCain got held back somewhere along the way so that for his entire career he was a year older than everyone he was playing that con concerns me he’s not like a he’s a 20-year-old he’s 20 and a half as a freshman he entered school as a 19 and a half year old freshman that’s old like my daughter turned 19 in February this year my son turned 19 in July of his fresh of his freshman year after his freshman year this kid is old and to me like that skews the numbers a little bit so in the sense of this matchup of Dalton connect and Jared McCain the birthday thing is a little interesting to me I mean literally my daughter turned n as a freshman regular aged February 11th birthday turned 19 as a freshman Jared mckain was born Fe 20th one year earlier so consensus fivestar recruit everything but he started he that that’s like not holding that’s not holding your kid back that that’s like literally giving him an extra year I think it really matters you might be thinking listening to this thinking I’m stupid so it’s connect vers McCain so here are four first round matchups somebody wants to throw it up on Reddit that’d be fun too I’d love to take those votes Dillingham vers Jobe Walter though I got to admit I really wanted Bob Carrington but I had to have a system that wasn’t just mine Ron Holland vers Cody Williams that’s awesome the second round matchup might be in that might be the championship match topage vers Carter connect vers McCain would have been fun to have McCain vers Carter head-to-head and topage versus connect a little bit but we didn’t the eight guys for 28 and 32 are coming together and I’m we’re going to start watching them this week shyman KCK Clinton Tyson DEET Edward Shannon and dun okay those are just names to you starting tomorrow we’ll start to break down those guys who they are what their games are today I want to make sure you really had who top eight were when we talked about the NBA draft I’m EXC when we talked about the NBA Finals I said that I thought the key would be whether or not it’s not totally by the way playing out this way um I said that I thought the key would be the four to six foot three-point shooting and the six plus three-point shooting between Dallas and Boston one who got the most and two who made the most now neither of them is shooting him well but Dallas is disastrous on open on shots where Defenders within 4 is six and three Dallas is five of 23 on shots where the three-point shooter is six or more feet there’s six of 24 so on open threes which I said if you remember the analysis if you’re in everyday I said Luca is GNA get them looks I don’t know if they’re good enough to make them and I said Boston’s going to get more looks because that’s what they do cuz that’s how it works and then the question is whether you know Dallas can make enough on wide open threes six plus feet Boston is 13 of 36 for 36% League average is 40 they’re a little off Fine Dallas is six of 24 25% on threes that are open by four or more feet Dallas is 11 of 47 and Boston is 24 of 69 just to do the quick math for you on that just so that those numbers make some sense 24 of 69 is 35% that’s a little off The League average is probably 37 NBA finals are hard boss 11 of 47 is 23% ouch yesterday on wide open threes Dallas was two of 11 Boston was six of 18 Boston got 18 which is a lot and on four to six Boston was four of 16 and Dallas was three of 12 that’s what’s going on that is locked on Jazz your daily podcast in the Utah Jazz give me Insight expertise geeky numbers and hopefully making it way better to be a jazz fan we now send you to the
