Spurs Want Darius Garland Badly To Pair With Victor Wembanyama

what’s going on everyone so more likely than not this offseason one of Donovan Mitchell or Darius Garland will no longer be on the Cleveland Cavaliers um either Donovan Mitchell is going to demand a trade and say hey look you can trade me or you can keep me but I’m leaving not this offseason but next offseason and you’re not going to get anything for me or trade me now get something and if he sticks around well then Darius Garland is reportedly going to request to trade that he wants to kind of get back to being the lead guard and and be able to be the point guard uh to the level that we saw him pre Donovan Mitchell now going under the assumption that Donovan Mitchell does stick around right it is still very likely that Donovan Mitchell leaves and then the Cavs end up trading him and keeping Darius Garland but going on the assumption that let’s say he does stay then Darius Garland becomes available and one of the teams that are heavily interested in Darius Garland are the San Antonio Spurs now we knew that San Antonio they have interest in Darius Garland I mean look the Spurs period need to get a point guard whether it’s a short-term until they find that long-term point guard or if they can get it immediately and right away they have to get one regardless just to make things easier on Victor wiama right one of the big issues that the Spurs had was just the playmaking and being able to make things easy for Victor and I mean just the team in general right like having a real floor General that can kind of get guys in position kind of run and and initiate the offense um also actually acknowledge that Victor wanyama was on the basketball court like that was one of the most frustrating things about the Spurs like there were times where like Victor has clear establishment there were times where Victor would be like wide open and guys would miss him like it’s just they need to get some level of playmaker and Victor wiama was unbelievably impressive right I mean the the alien that he is you know I I’m not somebody I don’t like the insane expectations that people put on some of these young guys especially Victor wiama again even if he didn’t have the season that he had you know a lot of people would have been like oh see look he’s a bus he’s that the other I just again kind of let give guys time to grow and develop but Victor did have the season that he just had and was arguably the best defensive player in the league out the gate this guy’s probably going to win 10 defensive player of the year he’s going to win until the NBA in the league and all the voters just get tired of voting for him um which is going to be absolutely impressive and then his offensive game is just going to continue to grow and develop but having a real true floor General somebody that can get him the basketball and get him the basketball in spots and position like is just going to make things so much easier for him I mean you’re talking about a guy that next year if you get the right point guard next year Victor could jump to the 28 to maybe 30 point guy when the guy was already averaging 20 right so to think that he can’t go like actually have a guard that’s setting him up and you know throwing him lobs and you know getting him the ball in his spot plus his offense just natural Improvement and progression that he’s going to make as as he develops I don’t think it’s that farfetched for him to average you know somewhere 8 to 10 points or say six to 10 points more than he averaged last season uh especially if you can get a guard and look Darius Garland makes a world of sense particularly because of his age right Darius Garland still only 24 years old he won’t be 25 till January so he’s young enough to where he fits the timeline beautifully right and it’s like yes the the Spurs have options right like you could go know free agency there’s talks about them potentially you know drafting somebody in this draft and then bringing in like a Chris Paul or something to help develop we saw what Chris Paul was able to do with SGA I mean SGA still credits um you know Chris Paul for kind of his emergence and whatnot but you know going and getting somebody in the draft or going and getting um somebody in free agency that’s obviously an option but if you can get somebody like Darius Garland I think you do it I think a lot of people also forget how good Darius Garland was pre Donovan Mitchell I mean you’re talk about a guy that was legit you know a 22 and N guy you know or 22 and8 guy right so I mean this is a guy that I fully believe could get back to that and he was also shaping and developing into what looked like one of the top guards in this league right this is a guy that was looking that people were looking at and going man like he could be a legit two-way guard you know he was an Allstar most approved like this is a guy that just really was very impressive and then Cleveland ends up making the move for Donovan Mitchell and then he kind of ends up taking a back seat and it’s just this awkward like okay you know you go I go at times and now Darius Garland if he could go to a team like San Antonio I just think he’d be a much better shape right and then if you have like Garland vassel and you know Victor wiama Maybe draft somebody in the draft um now you got basically your core and Foundation going forward that you can now kind of use to take you to the promised land but I mean like even last year right which last year wasn’t his best year um it was actually the the worst season he had in the last three years uh it’s his Worst season since the 2020 2021 season basically um but it’s still he averaged 18 points 6 and a half assists 1.3 three steals um he averaged three rebounds he shot 83.4% from the foul line he had an EFG of 52.4% he shot 50% from two-point range he shot 37.1% from three-point range right so I mean again 44.6% from from the line from the field period on 14.8 attempts which is also his third fewest of his career right so or second few Fest of his career so again talk about a guy that on the third fewest or second fewest field goal attempts of his career wenton still gave you 18 on efficiency still shot 37% which is down right if you look at the previous year the 2022 2023 season um he averaged 21.6 points he averaged 1.2 steals uh eight assists 7.8 uh so eight assist uh three rebounds he shot 86.3% from the foul line uh he had an EFG of 53.7% he shot uh 49.2% from two-point range he shot 41% from three-point range on 6.8 attempts I mean he’s a career 38% three-point shooter regardless he’s a good three-point shooter um he had a field goal uh percentage of 46.2% and uh he from the field or on on 16.4 attempts per game so again I mean on 160 attempts he’s a guy that give you 21 points 50% shooting shoot well from three make plays again this is a guy that’s a legit 22 and N guy and you got to imagine he’s probably going to get back to that being the primary point guard moving to San Antonio playing alongside Victor whama he’s 24 right he’s a guy that still has enough talent and upside and potential to where he’s could very well improve I mean most guys they start getting into their Prime you know 26 27 to to well and now in today’s NBA I mean you’ve seen a lot of guys start getting into their mid to late 30s but you know like usually it’s like you know 25 20 to 27 is where it begins and then you’re talking usually till you’re 32 to 34 is where it ends so you’re talking he’s got another two three years before he really enters his Prime and which he can grow and develop I think Darius Garland could legitimately become a 25 point a game guy at least I don’t think that that’s that far-fetched um get you to 25 a game and get you eight to nine assists a game to to paril alongside Victor whama he could play some defense he he’s got youth he’s got athleticism he’s got everything that you want he get to the basket finishing at the r is definitely something that he needs to improve a little better on but I just in general I think that he’s a guy that that makes a lot of sense and it it and it it’s not I don’t think it’s crazy that the Spurs kind of have him at the top of the list right he’s the guy that keeps being mentioned he’s the guy that that the Spurs keep like hey if he’s available he’s the guy we’re looking at he’s the guy we’re targeting and I think that they should right because again I mean you could go and you could dra dra the guy in the draft at point guard right and this draft in general isn’t looked at as this great draft but regardless even if it was looked as a as a great draft you’re still taking a gamble there’s a lot of top point guards and in various classes that have came into the NBA and done nothing right so you you you could take the flyer on a guy at 48 and and hope that maybe he develops into better than gar or as good as Garland or whatever or you can take the safe route go and trade for Darius Garland who you know is already an all Allstar level point guard you get an All-Star level point guard immediately you don’t have to take the risk you don’t have to take the game you don’t have to take anything you’re just trading for them and then you know maybe you keep your fourth or you keep your eighth pick and you go can you go get a a castle you know like a Stefan Castle or something like that right and and you know there there you go or you know maybe you get a maybe you get a big man and you go take a flyer on somebody else and now you got your point guard position locked up you got your Victor with minama you got so you basically got your point guard you got two guard you got your your power forward or center right because that’s the beauty of Victor wama is his versatility right now you’re just kind of adding and upgrading around the edges and you’re in good shape right so I don’t know I I like the idea I think if they can realistically get Darius Garland I think get him personally I think I think he’s a no-brainer I think he’s somebody that you you don’t even question you just go get him right like if you can get him you can get him um I think a lot of again a lot of people I think forget how good Victor whama or not Victor how good Darius Garland was pre um pre Donovan Mitchell but again how you feel whatever your thoughts are I’d love to
