but time to bring him up again this is the he report by chat sports I am your host Nick rolloff why are we talking about this well Bill Simmons NBA analysist of the ringer he kind of floated out an idea for the heat to trade for Trey young and believes it would be a good idea for Miami to potentially pursue the guard from Atlanta who could be on the trade block I did want to showcase what the trade idea was right off the bat before we get into his reasoning and then my thoughts and if the he should do it how Trey would fit with Miami if you have not seen one of our Trey young videos in the past but this was his idea the heat get the small Guard from Oklahoma and all they have to do is give up Tyler herro Duncan Robinson the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft and the 20129 unprotected first round pick that’s pretty solid value if you’re Miami only having to give up two first round picks alongside hero and Duncan to get a player of Trey Young’s caliber who has had some unbelievable seasons in the past in terms of averaging 25 a game 10 assists like the value is there this is what Simmons had to say on his deal he said you keep Butler bam get try and heat culture the kind of trade where I look back and say ah that’s a good trade he’s doing all the same stuff they wanted for Dame right and I kind of mentioned it a second ago but before I tell you if I would do that trade or if I wouldn’t do that trade there is just good value like someone that averages 25 plus points a game and 10 assists a game usually is not available for two first round picks a player like hero and Duncan Robinson now who knows if that would be an offer that Atlanta would even consider trading there are a lot of rumors out there that Landry Fields the GM is likely going to move one of Young and jonte Murray this off season as those two just have not worked out the past two seasons and if it is Trey young and Miami comes in with the best offer and that is the best offer maybe the Hawks would consider this deal but let me know your thoughts on the matter would you do this trade to get Trey young in the 305 all it costes hero Duncan Robinson and two first round picks let me know if you would do it a for accept or D for decline it’s a very intriguing one let me know your thoughts down below I am going to accept this deal strictly off the value and I’ll explain more on dep in that in just a second but Trey young is someone who would instantly boost this Miami Heat off offense and it is absolutely something that needs to happen we’ve seen the heat offense be bottom in the NBA over the past two seasons after they were a top 15 offensive team when they were the number one overall seed in the east in 2122 the defense has already always been there for Miami the offense has just always been lacking Trey young is an offensive Juggernaut who can transform an entire scheme and system over his last four years he has just been taking on the grunt of the work in Atlanta his usage rate is extremely high but he’s able to put up numbers he is one of the highest points accounted for players in the NBA I mean just averaging 25 plus a game in four straight Seasons with 9.4 assist being your low point it’s just good stuff and yeah there’s some questions about his efficiency his only real efficient season was in 2122 other than that it’s been a lot of sub 44% sub 37% from three and you would think of Trey young as someone who is a good three-point shoot because of how deep he takes some of these shots but even though the efficiency from three isn’t what you would think it would be for Trey young he would be able to carry the offensive burden for Miami that is absolutely necessary we have just seen too often that this team can’t win in the regular season against teams like the Washington Wizards at times that loss still haunts me back in April by the way but because they couldn’t score and Trey young would just change that he would take the load of the offense him and Bam would be able to run an elite pick and roll give Jimmy time to rest and kind of coast to the regular season before he takes over in the postseason and something that we’ve always talked about in the heat report if we’re acquiring a player can they play in the postseason when the brights are the lightest because Heat organization needs you to do that and Trey Young’s had an up and down playoff career I will be honest his rookie not rookie season but his first time being in the playoffs when the Hawks made it all the way to the Conference Finals Trey young was spectacular taking down the Sixers taking down the Knicks averaging damn near 29 Points a game and 9 and a half assists while shooting a mere 41.8% from the field 31% from three they make the postseason the following year as the eight Seed where they matched up against the Miami Heat in the first round Heat beat him in five and they absolutely bullied Trey young it was a terrible five-game series for Trey averaging only 15 points a game and shooting inefficient as hack PJ Tucker Kyle Lowry and Caleb Martin had him in hell but then he bounced back last playoffs when he was a seven seed taking the Celtics to six games and he played very well in that Series so there is history there to where Trey young can play well in the postseason and that is why I think this can work I am not all the way in on young as a one or two option but I think what he brings to the table is enough to make this worth it right you have Jimmy and Bam who have been the second best duo in Eastern Conference in the playoffs one healthy together over the last 5 years no other Duo outside of Tatum and brown has made the same amount of NBA finals in Eastern Conference Finals as bam and Jimmy so you get Trey in there to do most of the heavy lifting during the regular season offensively and then you can have him take a step back as a third option when Jimmy and Bam Elevate their play and their two-way ability in the postseason when it matters the most I think the fit actually is there I know it’s been skeptical I don’t like Trey Young’s defense how undersized he is but I do think he would end up working in Miami but you make the call for me do you think Trey fits with the heat type y for yes or type n for no let me know your thoughts on the matter make sure you are subscribed as well we got that Race to let’s say of Trey young and his ability to be a winning factor and one of the leading reasons why a team wins deep in the postseason just doesn’t play defense but when you have two Elite two-way players like bam and Jimmy Butler on the wing and in the anchoring and middle of that defense I think I think that’s where Trey could flourish cuz you can hide him a little bit more defensively when you have Jimmy and Bam there behind him he could also take some of the offensive load off Trey young to where yes we want him to carry that in the off in the regular season but when it comes to the postseason teams can’t really Hound Trey young and double him and make him get out of his hands because guess what bam and Jimmy can kind of do damage themselves right I think Trey would be able to flourish with the Miami Heat working with bam and Jimmy and another reason why I think that is because of his shot selection like we’ve often talked about how there are some players that I’m concerned about their fit joining the heat because Jimmy and Bam like to do a lot of their work 15 ft and in from the elbows extended because they want to get to the rim they want to get to the free throw line and they want to finish and stress the opposing defense well if you look at Trey Young’s career he takes the majority of his shots from the top of the key above the break three pointers if you will and he shoots pretty efficiently by the way he’s either League average or just above League average but one thing he also does exceptionally well is hit that little 8 to 10 foot floater just at the free throw line or inside the line he’s not the best finisher at The Rim there’s no debating that but for Trey young most of his shots are either three pointers at the top of the key or little step back midies or floaters in pick and roll when The Bigs are in drop coverage so to me I think the offensive fit is there he would space the floor very well with Jimmy and Bam the pick and roll would be one of the top five most elite plays in the entire NBA between Trey and Bam I truly believe that as bam continues to evolutionize his game as well and to me we’ve talked about the trade right well guess what if you remember it was just hero Duncan and two first that allows you to keep nicovic and haime hakz Jr to either make in another trade to really improve this roster or just keep those two young guys to have off the bench and create a more balanced team surrounding Trey Jimmy and Bam because hakz and yic are still on their rookie contracts now I will say this I don’t think the Hawks would do this trade I don’t and the reason why is I think they’d want one of yich or hawz I just don’t think they would want to go and deal way one of their top players if not their best player and not get one of the better young assets for Miami in return like we’ve talked about this before as well but I truly believe that if you had the rank the Heat’s asset in terms of trade value I think Kime Haw is Junior’s number one I think Nicole yich is number two and then Tyler hero is where number three comes in I think hero is worth one first I think yic is worth one first but I think because those two are a little bit younger than Tyler they’ve shown an ability to be a great piece surrounding and play on both ends of the floor as well bring shooting finishing like those two are going to be valued potentially more than hero which is why Atlanta if they were to trade Trey young to Miami would almost certainly want one of yakez but I would not trade both I would be even skeptical to trade one but that’s who they would want now before we get out of here I think it’s always important to mention if there is a trade what the contract would look like if he came over to Miami because you would have three max guys and Bam when he signs his extension Jimmy if he signs his extension or not because he still does have a Max contract currently right now young had that supermax rookie deal extension and he’s getting paid 43 this season 45 .9 million in 2526 and the final Year’s his contract is 2627 now that’s $ 48.9 million but it is an early termination option if you are the club that owns that contract don’t know the exact laws and rules of what happens and what they’d have to pay if they did terminate the contract a little bit early but I’d imagine they probably would want to keep Trey young for 48.9 mil before he is an unrestricted for agent in 2728 so he is getting paid quite a lot of money and if you did deal for him and you had Jimmy and Bam for the next two or three seasons it’d be tough to build a good roster around them without using rookie contracts which is why it would be kind of important to keep yic and hakz to have role players surrounding the big
