Reportedly, the University of Kentucky pursued Dan Hurley this offseason to make him their head coach, offering $12.5 million annually to become the highest-paid coach in college basketball. Meanwhile, the Lakers’ top ‘all in’ offer to Hurley was $11.6 million.

college team beating an nba team in offers is crazy.

    Jeanie Buss is fucking poor.

  2. We really got less money than a university man make it make sense

  3. Ok_Board9845

It wasn’t about the money. Ya’ll are crazy.

  4. 4 head coaches in the NBA make more than $12.5M. If the Lakers are cheap, so are 25 other owners.

  5. First of all Amico so already know it’s bullshit but this narrative of “we didn’t even offer as much as Kentucky” has to stop. We have no idea what they offered him. There were literally 0 reputable reports on the offer. Callipari was also only getting paid $8.5m from Kentucky so to think they’d offer Hurley $4m more is hard to believe. Did the Lakers give him a crazy offer he couldn’t refuse? Prob not, but it was still a very competitive offer. 6th highest paid head coach as a first year NBA coach.

Yall posting every laker hater shit here now, getting emotional and shit. lol cmon man

Jeanie Buss needs to sell the fucking team. She runs the lakers franchise like it’s the fucking Krusty Krab. There is no way a player on a team should ever have more money than the owner! If you’re too broke to keep up with the cost of running a historic franchise do us all and yourself a favor and sell!

Guys stop this. Amico is a bullshit artist and Laker hater.

UK offered 11m a year for 5-7 years. They did NOT offer 100 million dollars.

So technically UK’s top end contract offer may have topped 70 million, but the annual amount was actually less. We’re all upset that this didn’t happen, but don’t buy into an actual bullshit artist who is baiting you.

Lmaooo all y’all saying Jeanie isn’t cheap af are clowns

  10. LAKESHOW03

Some people will still keep defending that owner & front office though…

  11. okay? Why the fuck are people expecting the Lakers to pay a coach with ZERO NBA experience a top 4 salary? Kentucky can spend that much because they’re paying for one of the best college coaches, to coach college basketball, the Lakers would be paying that much for a gamble (yes I understand he’s a great coach, but you don’t know how he would be in the NBA)

  12. LosAngeles1s

that money would’ve put him in the top 6 paid head coach in the league and it’s sounds like the money wasn’t the problem with him at all

  13. NordicLard

We are the Los Angeles Knicks; Buss sell the team

  14. LaiJonJon

lol everyone saying Lakers poor when realistically Dan Hurley is an unproven NBA level coach….does his resume of college basketball mean paying him more than 20+ other nba coaches? does that make sense or….?

  15. No-Equipment-20

Nah I’m not hating on Lakers FO for this one. They offered him more than a fair deal and tried their best. This seems more like Hurley wanted more from Uconn than anything else

  16. Thing is, there’s way more job security in college.  I don’t blame him at all for staying for just that reason.

  17. invisible24

Remember folks, when it comes to news, Amico is an Amic-no.

  18. vespamike562

He didn’t want to be here. His wife didn’t want to be here. I don’t think anything could have really swayed him to the Lakers.

  19. Paying the most money ever for a coach that’s almost doomed to fail in the NBA is insane.

  20. Ok_Concentrate_75

It’s university of Kentucky. They will easily cut funding from some school lunch program or library system to pay him.

  21. Hour_Insurance_7795

And he turned them both down. So the point is moot. It was about a lot more than simply $$$.

  22. vespamike562

I’m sure you explore all options when it comes to your career. Why wouldn’t he. He was able to gain some leverage for his salary at U Con. All it cost him was his time. It worked out for him.

  23. theres 2 sides to this and thats, did the lakers make a good and fair offer? the answer is YES, 100%. the second part is that if you want someone to leave a place where theyre successful and comfortable then you need to make an offer they cant refuse. if this was really their guy then they should have made a better offer, its not like it counts against the cap so who cares

  24. BananasAndPears

The fact that colleges throw cash around like this is MORE reason to pay their athletes and is a reason for decreasing tuition instead of increasing it.

  25. -Lights0ut-

I know people don’t talk about it, but the Lakers have one of the poorest owners in the NBA and I am positive Kentucky has more money to spend on a coach.
