The New York Knicks SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED To Keep Doing This..

the New York Knicks are doing exactly what the NBA feared and they show no sign of slowing down I think we can all agree that the Knicks are scary and when healthy then can be as good as the Boston Celtics the New York Micks shouldn’t be allowed to keep doing this but they couldn’t care less about anything this off season is really interesting to me because I think the Knicks had a real shot at making the finals this year if they were completely healthy like everyone in top shape including Julius Randall they might have even beaten a strong team like the Boston Celtics but next year might not be the same and that’s what makes it exciting first let’s talk about the free agents the big name here is OG anunobi he has a player option that he’s going to turn down there are many rumors and mixed reports about whether he’ll stay with the Knicks one reason he might have been unhappy in Toronto and why he left through a trade is because he wants a bigger role in there offense similar to what Jeremy Grant wanted he doesn’t just want to be a three andd player who shoots and defends he wants more responsibility on offense the Knicks have a challenge with OG and nuni when they got him to be a three andd player he fit perfectly and the team played great but like in Toronto the Knicks can’t offer him a bigger offensive role because they already have Jaylen Brunson and either Julius Randall or someone else next season the big question is whether the Knicks are willing to pay OG and Nune over $30 million a year just to be a three andd player will OG be happy with that role another team like Philadelphia with a lot of cap space might offer him a huge contract more than the Knicks want to pay the Knicks then have to decide if they’ll match that offer to keep him this situation is tough for the Knicks and maybe not what they expected when they traded for OG they were confident they could resign him and that’s their first priority this off season even if they don’t make other changes to the roster bringing back OG could make them a Conference Finals or even finals team next year without him things get uncertain OG and nuni is one of the most interesting free agents this off season the Knicks have a few other free agents to think about Alec Burks unrestricted precious AA and Isaiah hartenstein hardenstein who might not have seemed like a big free agent at the start of the Year definitely is now this adds another decision for the Knicks besides possibly paying OG and they might need to offer hardenstein a big contract too they’re already paying Mitchell Robinson a good amount and if they also invest in hartenstein they could be spending $30 to $35 million a year on centers they need to decide if this investment is worth it hardenstein played really well for them and formed a strong one-two punch with Robinson however it’s uncertain if they want to spend that much on the center position hardenstein might end up signing a significant deal with another other team and not return to the Knicks next season another point to consider for the Knicks is Bogden bogdanovich s contract they acquired him mid-season last year and his contract for the upcoming season is non- guaranteed they could buy out his contract to save money not to create cap space but to reduce their luxury tax penalty looking at other contracts both Julius Randall and Jaylen Brunson have player options for 2025 making them eligible for extensions this offseason Jaylen Brunson being an all NBA caliber player will likely get a new Max extension however Julius randle’s situation is less certain and an extension for him isn’t expected soon Beyond these two Mitchell Robinson Dante dant chenzo and Josh Hart are under contract through the 2026 offseason decisions on whether to trade any of them especially considering the investment in the center position with Robinson and Isaiah hardenstein are separate issues sh that covers the free agency situation now regarding draft picks the Knicks have all their own picks plus a few future first round picks from other teams not all of these extra picks are great though they have Dallas’s first round pick for 2024 and a Detroit 2025 pick but it’s top 13 protected so it likely won’t be conveyed they also have a 2025 Milwaukee pick with complicated protections shared with New Orleans making it less valuable there’s a 2025 Wizards pick that might be good but it’s top 10 protected and Washington will probably be in the top 10 so while they have some future picks to use in trades their own picks might still be the most valuable now that we know the Nicks assets and free agency situation what’s the next step to make a finals push next year aside from investing in O and unabi and potentially Losing Isaiah hartenstein there are a few key moves to consider assuming they reigned OG anun and hartenstein leaves the Knicks would still have Mitchell Robinson and could find another valuable Center in free agency the clear area for improvement is moving Julius Randall by trading him and using some of their draft picks they could upgrade the starting lineup they have two main options bring in another offensive weapon to support Jaylen Brunson or find a player who can match Randall’s offensive contributions if Randall is traded without a comparable offensive replacement it would increase the pressure on Brunson option one is to enhance the starting lineup with more offensive power or follow the Nick’s strategy of surrounding Brunson with strong role player wings like Josh Hart and Dante dant chenzo a key player in this plan is Mel Bridges completing the Villanova Connection in New York trading Julius randle’s contract could make this happen it’s unlikely he’d go straight to the Nets but another team might want him in a three- te deal the Knicks could offer multiple draft picks including their own and some extras to sweeten the deal however it’s doubtful they could match the value the Nets have placed on bridges in past trade talks if the Nets decide to re-evaluate their strategy and consider breaking things down the Knicks could seize the opportunity they could offer their Surplus draft picks and randle’s contract imagine a lineup next season featuring four Villanova alumni and Mitchell Robinson supported by players like Bogden B donovic while Bridges may not be a top offensive option he fits well with Brunson and the roster potentially even better than Randall it’s an intriguing team setup that would be really exciting to see come together option one especially if they resign OG in Nune is to pursue Mel Bridges however if they can’t resign OG they might be even more determined to go after Bridges because they’d have a gap to fill in the starting lineup on the wing another option if they prefer a more offensive player or someone who can create more is Dej Murray he could fit well alongside Jaylen Brunson providing size and defense while he didn’t mesh perfectly with Trey young in Atlanta he could still be worth exploring for the Knicks Donovan Mitchell is another name that comes up frequently but adding another guard alongside Brunson raises questions about how much the team would actually improve versus potentially duplicating skills Murray while offering defense might face similar challenges the big question for the Knicks is finding the right fit alongside Brunson in the back court if they can’t find it there pursuing a wing option like Bridges makes sense if Bridges isn’t available they could consider other options like Jeremy Grant despite his age and contract size the Knicks have a few options ahead they could take a chance on guards like Donovan Mitchell or Dej Murray but that seems unlikely another option is to keep the roster the same next year and Hope For Better Health then deal with Julius randle’s player option in 2025 they could extend Jaylen Brunson resign OG and Nune and let Randall walk in 2025 which would give them more flexibility however the most realistic option for competing for a title next season seems to be pursuing Mikel Bridges whether this happens depends on whether the Nets are willing to trade him and what the Knicks are willing to offer compared to other interested teams but regardless the Knicks are in a great position to contend for a title perhaps the best they’ve been in for over 20 years this off season will play a big role in determining their chances
