But if he’s your 3rd best player, your team is just not very good. Any coach that joins this team will have the most unrealistic expectations of all time and will be fired in 2 years. Hurley was right to not accept this job. Redick if he had any sense would do the same
ocsic4321
It’s a little bit of an exaggeration, but anybody who thinks UConn isn’t a better job right now than the Lakers needs to quit kidding themselves.
shanmustafa
how many great jobs are available?
pretty sure the celtics, knicks, bucks, magic, pacers, 76ers, miami, okc, denver, wolves, clippers, dallas, and suns jobs are not coming available any time soon
also i guess i just disagree with the idea that this is not a team that can do something in the playoffs
they finished the season going 25-13 when Ham finally stopped being an idiot and just started the best 5 guys, for the season Prince started and played more mpg than Rui
Austin only starting 57/82 games is INSANE
there was a game where Austin, D’lo, and Rui were all healthy and pockets started Reddish and Christie next to Bron and AD
there’s no way this team couldn’t have been a 50ish win team with better coaching
even with average to bad they were close to it
HoopsHistoryHubb
Except the year they just made the WCF right before this season. Through the play in but still
NotManyBuses
He makes a good point about the long term outlook being pretty dismal. LBJ is on the downswing and will be gone by 2026. Outside of that you’ve got AD, Reaves, Rui? I mean what kind of core is that. Hood Schifino and Max Christie the only players under 25?
This team is headed back to the doldrums as soon as Bron retires. AD is amazing, but the supporting cast especially young talent is just not there.
Wedundidit00
Lakers job is only a job for people who hate themselves. The Buss family are a nightmare, your best player is bigger than the franchise but is also nearly 40 years old and on his way out, the team has no assets, the local media will scrutinize whoever gets the job and your team as constructed is not very good. But the beach and LA weather I guess
ObiwanSchrute
I just wish they would hire a coach already I feel the Pistons are waiting on them.

Right into my veins

lakers have had 7 coaches since phil jackson left 14 years ago. it’s a place where the players get you fired and the expectations are through the roof. sure the lakers are nba royalty but there’s been a permanent guillotine staged outside the coaches office for a decade and a half.
poeope
Ah man this season really like a Celtics fan fever dream
makashiII_93
Who put that window there?
Zach! Stay AWAY FROM THE WINDOW.
ignoramus_x
Lakers job on a 6 year contract is a great job, you’ll probably get fired in 2-3 years and will get paid tens of millions of dollars to chill at home.
paddiction
Not every coach can take the pressure of coaching a storied franchise. You need someone like JJ Redick or Borrego.
d_e_l_u_x_e
My guy is talking about cost of living on 8 million a year. Tell me you’re out of touch, 8 million a year solves ANY cost of living problems.
Taco_Aficionado
Slightly off topic, but why does Zach look like he has 10 pounds of makeup on?
Pierson230
All the stress, all the pressure, limited upside, high expectations, legendary franchise with giant zealous fan base, legendary old player on the decline… it sounds like a lose/lose, honestly
Obviously, normal people would take the money and it is an NBA opportunity, but it doesn’t look appealing for someone who can afford to be picky and is going to make all that money regardless
ekb2023
Just blow it up and rebuild. I’m sure LeBron will stick around for another rebuild.
Silver-Yam-69
It’s not great because you’re going to be eventually rebuilding with 32-33 year old AD, which means you’d probably trade him unless you can somehow finagle two superstars to come replace LBJ in free agency (impossible).
So you’re rebuilding, there’s not many assets, the young core is uninspiring. It’s just a prestige job in name only with a very bad hand of cards dealt.
Like if the Thunder job becomes available, I think he’d jump. Or the Mavs or maybe even a team as bad as the Rockets. Because there’s assets to build on and influence the kind of team you want to coach. But the Lakers are already bad and LBJ has maybe a year or two left before it gets really bad. If Redick cared about his long term head coaching prospects, I don’t think he’d do it either.
justlobos22
Good jobs rarely open up, need something like the Udoka situation.
durezzz
if they were smart they would blow it up right now
AdVegetable9992
So coaching like the wizard a great job??
TonofSoil
Lowe is wearing too much damn makeup 💄
swgeek555
We have officially come full 180 on the Lakers.
WanAjin
They made the wcf last year and were 3 games away from the 5th this year, I would think a coach could see the difference between that and being something like the Bulls or Hawks from this year.
BramptonBatallion
Lakers are gonna be like a 40 year old dude carrying the team to around .500. Then they’ll do the tank thing. This is a sacrificial lamb hiring, whomever takes it.
coolmcbooty
It’s a great job if you want money. Get a fat contract, get fired and take in the money for years and then when the noise quiets down, find another job
Saucy_Totchie
Definitely. Getting a new coach isn’t going to remedy the terrible roster they have.
doctorfeelwood
Who have a title and western conference finals in the last 4 years.
amofai
Can’t believe the disrespect to only the in-season champions in NBA history.
cuhman1cuhman2
Im just mad we won’t see suits on the sidelines of an NBA game
_bmg52588_
Huh, it’s almost as if the point of the coach is to work to make the team have better results.
hungrywantmooshoo
If I’m the Lakers, I explore trading AD during the same offseason Lebron retires
GoalPublic3579
They’re a play in team because of an incompetent head coach
This_Cable_5849
I mean, the biggest downside is Lebron James. He’s a legend, but also isn’t going to listen to shit you say…
Wise_Ad_112
Even as a lakers fan it’s funny to me that there are 29 other teams in the nba and nba finals are on and ppl can’t stop talking about the lakers, everyone keeps talking about how irrelevant we are and how much we suck. lol a coaching search prolly got more viewers on espn then the finals.
NorahCeCe
I mean, that’s being a bit disingenuous. They were in the WCF finals last year and this year the west was historically stacked
AnimationPatrick
Isn’t that kind of the point of looking for a new coach? If they were number 1 seed in the west why would they be looking for a coach.
Novel_Board_6813
With the Lakers you might always have a shot, at least down the line (if you can keep the job, of course)
LA is a great city for NBA players. The Lakers might be the number one franchise. It’s not that hard to attract superstars
They got Lebron. They got AD. They might get others in the future
If Giannis/Luka/Embiid think about going somewhere else, it’s way more likely they’ll consider the Lakers than Charlotte or Detroit

I like Austin Reaves. He’s a good player.
