to actually we got to actually listen to this one uh so Kevin Looney will likely be released by the Golden State Warriors uh let’s take a look here so I went over to Apple podcast and we’re we’re going to listen to what they have to say this is actually I think this is Tim kawakami hopefully that’s how how you say his last name uh this is his pod I think uh in which this is from the athletic and he has some people on and they had some things to say about this whole Looney situation and how he could potentially be available and you guys know the Spurs need a backup center I think desperately need a backup defensive Center and this this could be this could be the uh answer to our prayers so let’s listen here uh so I think there’s value for him no that wasn’t on my headphones let’s talk now but again I don’t know is it is it at this point beyond the minimum across the league and if it isn’t you know Kavon is the type of guy who could take being cut and being told hey come back on the minimum we know his personality if he wants to be with the Warriors he’d be like all right you know I can n but you don’t like if he’s a minimum everywhere else except the Warriors He’s not a minimum player for the Warriors what he means to the Warriors that you can’t do look at that be like yeah we’ll pay you what the Wizards pay you it’s like you can’t lean on him in a locker room you can’t like if if if you’re Looney you’re like if I got a minimum from the Warriors and a minimum from somebody else I might be so upset that I’m going to take the minimum from somewhere else but we also are talking about K who was that’s a little bit of conjecture uh they declined his option once remember that which was basically them saying like you’re everybody gets fed up at some point everybody and maybe this is the this a tough year this was a tough year this was the toughest season for there’s no question he went DM DMP there are teams that could use him I mean I was to say we could get further into this like if we’re going to talk trades and matching and like I could think of teams that might want him like we there’s some teams have no back you can’t you can’t set this whole thing up around Steph clay and Draymond right like on some let’s keep the game together and they’re making like you know whatever like combine and they’d be like L we got we got one and a half for you like no he’s a part of that you I mean I could see if they were like all right man get out of this deal and we got we got a five five five for you something you can’t come back talk about a minimum for cine Looney I mean I think there’s a chance they cut him and and that’s just it yeah yeah no question no question I think that’s again we talk most likely I think that’s the most likely unless there’s a trade out there like they guarantee that contract I’m still waiting for the trade like I think if they guarantee that contract I am expecting a trade you know so regardless what they’re what they’re what they’re speculating here is that either they’re going to let Kevin or Kevan Looney go um in which they don’t have that money guaranteed to them because you can see here that it is locked in June 24th so they will just let them go before that or they will go ahead and allow that to happen and then trade him afterward regardless this is good news for the Spurs um I don’t know how much or what the Spurs be willing to give up uh for Kevon Looney I don’t know what what teams or what his Market would even look like um out there but what I do know is I think that he would be perfect for the Spurs right uh he wouldn’t cost a lot of money but if you have to you know spend a couple more million a few more million it’s not like the Spurs can’t afford to do that um 28 years old so he’s over the next few years he would definitely be um during those very impressionable years of of wimby and and that would give us enough time to start to find you know even more suitable candidates later on you know later down the line but he he’s important he’s important nonetheless and I think that he would help uh like crazy I told you guys this a many of times at least this is my opinion I think that the Spurs need a point guard okay I think most people agree with that we need defensive wings at least a couple of them at least a couple defensive wings and we also need a backup uh Center somebody who can play defense suitably I’m not going to sit here and trash Zach Collins like a lot of you know other people have I mean has he been great no but also he’s been completely out of position um it didn’t work out how we thought it would work out um him teaming up with wimy uh nonetheless it’s just one of those situations where we didn’t know until you know we tried it until we got wimy and some guys just won’t fit and some guys will you know and I think right now the only ones that are pretty definite are Trey Jones uh uh soan and and fael is definite as he gets right as far as guys that worked pretty well with wimy as the as the season went on I would say soan more so defensively on the defensive end both of them jailed quite well uh fael and Trey Jones on the offensive end I think jailed with wi be more so than soan did and but all all I’m kind of rambling all I’m saying is what we really really do need is a guy like Kevin Kevon Looney and with his price tag um with his impact I think that that would be perfect for the San Antonio Spurs perfect so I’m hoping that this is a reality um but nonetheless I I would not mind I mean it’s it’s not my money it’s not our money right but I would not mind the Spurs spending a few extra uh million to say hey Looney come on over come on over here and I’m I’m sure that he would actually enjoy uh being around that hype train that is uh wiim banama and with him being under pretty good coaching under Steve Kerr I mean why not go to the guy who taught him everything and Greg papovich so I I just think it’s great I think this is awesome news and if there’s anybody that could use them it is the Spurs and we can go ahead and fill up uh that part of the roster that we need and we don’t even have to second think it unless they they do go ahead and and keep them and then try to trade them afterwards but uh that might be a little bit of a risk who knows who knows um but anyways you guys let me know what you think uh let me know in the comments but this is some big news good news and I I really hope that this this can we can make something happen here I I really hope we can make something happen here anyways it will be perfect I think people just aren’t really thinking about it they’re more so focused on will the Spurs need a point guard no no no we need a backup center um expeditiously all right uh especially since I mean I’m not the biggest believer in I’m I won’t talk about him I won’t talk about him I he just stays hurt so often I I won’t even just not even focus on it but we we definitely That would be an S-tier acquisition. Looney and Bassey and we're set at our center position behind Wemby.
edit: apparently some idiots have an issue with a 23 year old tearing his ACL and think he should be cut. Sometimes young big centers have injury issues early in their career. Your body needs to adapt to being a grown man of the size of two. Embiid played 30 games in his first 3 years. This shit happens.
Charles is ~5 years away from entering his prime and proved to be an incredible worker with a near perfect character for this team + he is not expected to have a huge role on the team, so its okay to take a risk with him. We've done that many, many times before and 9 out 10 times it worked out.

I disagree. It is clear that on defense specifically Wemby is a center and should be. Looney is not going to be able to guard non centers. Couple that with the fact he really isnāt the same player he used to be. Now with the second team it would probably work but not starter.
besides of trae young i don't see any other players with a super star caliber in the conversation…. Ok trading pieces here and there, but for what.

Can we talk about an edey wemby combo. Twin towers at best backup at worst. There aren't any players that jump out at me outside of resachier Sheppard dill and edey. That pairing could be devastating defensively plus the draft capital we have in the future and SA being a hot destination for free agency we could afford to get a good center power forward duo.
With Wemby you will need a center that is able to guard the opponent's 4 from time to time. So no, he's definitely not a fit.
Sochan gelled with Wemby? I get that Sochan is highly valuable in a vacuum, but Sochan did NOT gel with Wemby on-court. Together they still were part of our best performing lineups but not because they had particular chemistry together. I'm sure that will improve though.
Looney is 6f 7i markanen 7f and hartenstein 6f 11i sorry but looney is not the best idea and offensivly he does not score like the 2 others so to me it s a big no

He was an asset on the most recent championship win from the Warriors, he was getting some 10-20 rebound games like Looney is no scrub and definitely he should go elsewhere instead of getting a minimum in California with their tax he's getting pennies on the dollar.
