Michael Jordan Was SCARED Of Magic Johnson’s 91 Lakers!?

Chicago Bulls Michael Jord hello everyone Michael Jordan fans are the best and today I’m going to be doing a reaction to basketball networks article by Andre dezman I’d much rather face Portland Michael Jordan didn’t want a 1991 finals match up with Magic Johnson and the Lakers but first before we get into it if you like what I have to say please like And subscribe to my channel and hit the bell for notifications of future content let’s get into it even though the Lakers met them in the finals that didn’t stop MJ from winning his first championship in 1991 Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls finally got over the hump and reached the NBA finals for the first time after three consecutive seasons of heartbreaks and frustrations at the hand of the Detroit Pistons MJ and the Bulls turned to tables around as they obliterated the Bad Boys dominating them via a four-game sweep to end their reign as back-to-back Champions before this dramatic turn of events insued Michael sat down in NBC specials one-on-one interview with Pat Riley and was asked who he preferred to face between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trailblazers for the last stop to reach his first championship yet as competitive as MJ has ever been he interestingly turned clever by picking the ladder I’d much rather face Portland Mike answered being that the Lakers got all that experience they’ve been there many times they got the solid players magic is so smart in those situations Portland hasn’t won like we haven’t certainly they have mistakes they have a little bit more flaws and they still probably have a little more doubt than what the Lakers would have I totally get this man magic had gone to the finals seemingly about a billion times at that point I believe it was eight times so it was something why wouldn’t you rather face a team that had less experience it makes sense to me that you’d want to go against a team that you think you had more of an edge over both of them as was said in the article didn’t have any Championship experience yet Magic Johnson had by that time had won five NBA championships in 11 years going on 12 years at that point so I don’t think it’s crazy but I do I do think it was kind of cheap of him uh per se to go and say that on TV that he’d rather face Portland to Pat Riley’s face um even though uh there was a coaching change and all that it’s still you know it was kind of funny that he would go and he would say that to the former Lakers Showtime coach interesting a reasonable preference Michael’s arguments make sense considering that magic and the showtime Lakers have been battle tested due to their Dynasty existence in the 80s by winning five championships and eight finals appearances throughout the decade the Lakers have conquered the league multiple times and are already built for these moments and even though Kareem Abdul Jabar was already non-existent in their lineup upon retiring from the sport two years ago they’ve remained in strong contention with Johnson as their showrunner and James Worthy as his solid co-star that’s not a slight to what Clyde Drexler LED blakers have been since they made it to the title stage just a year ago but their structure timeline and goals to take the next step were identical to the Bulls which makes MJ’s selection reasonable enough to acknowledge yeah and that’s more or less what I was saying is that you know of course you want to go and take on Clyde and they went and they went to the NBA finals as set against the Pistons and they had lost they were a great team I did a video about a year ago talking about how underappreciated that team was I think they had six or seven players on their team that had scored over 10 points per game uh on average um they had a really deep team doesn’t mean that they were the best team obviously they weren’t able to win a championship but they made uh they made the finals twice they made the Conference Finals I think one or two more times outside of the two times they went to the finals so they were a great team uh but that’s a lot less and a lot more more uh less um how do you say it impressive than what Magic Johnson and his Lakers had done up to that point MJ still beat Magic Lakers for his first title in the end MJ didn’t get the finals matchup he wanted as he and the Bulls eventually met magic and the Lakers at the Mountaintop with the NBA title on the line yet despite this it turned out as an unexpected blessing in disguise for Mike to perform at his best although inexperienced under the bright light of basketball’s biggest stage Mike didn’t shy away from the golden moment to introduce himself as the best player in the world facing his biggest adversity in Magic Jordan was on a mission as he played marvelously by charging the Bulls to Victory after dropping game one at home Michael and Chicago retaliated by steamrolling Los Angeles in the next four games to clinch their Maiden NBA championship a perfect ending to their compelling run as one of the best teams in history it’s third served as the first of many for Jordan and the Bulls in hindsight facing and beating magic is the best thing that His Airness could have ever asked to Kickstart as ruling in the league throughout the 90s and eventual coordination as the greatest of all time yeah no absolutely it was an amazing run um and whether it was that first game that really kicked him in the gear in the last stance Michael Jordan said that he just didn’t have a good game that game um whether that was true or however you want to look at it being able to beat even though it wasn’t showtime at that time they were still a premier team that had gone to uh the finals um a couple years ago again or before then against the Pistons you know as well uh it’s just something that is something to consider about how beating Magic Johnson really getting over the edge of this dynasty the showtime Lakers again they weren’t them but getting over the Lakers at all really had the jump start their confidence to go on and continue to just be amazing in the postseason it’s like the old line or the young lion beating The Old Lion taking the mantle and it would have been interesting to see if they faced off in the finals again later on because magic still had a lot left in the tank but everyone knows he had gotten HIV and had to retire from the game of basketball either way though um it kicked off one of the greatest runs in NBA history a three Pat and then Michael Jordan retired and they were able to get another three Pat let me know what you think about this article do you think that this do you think that it really matters that Michael Jordan wanted to face the Portland Trailblazers over at LA Lakers I don’t think it’s really a big deal I would have wanted to I think it’s kind of funny he said it on on TV it’s just kind of it’s self uh you know it’s just showing some awareness and in some sort of way some self uh I don’t want to say deprecation that might not be the right word but saying oh well I’d rather face somebody who isn’t as good as the Lakers at least some acknowledgement to the greatness that Magic Johnson had had at that time let me know what you think in the comments and for everyone Michael Jordan fans are the best

Michael Jordan told Pat Riley once that he’d rather face the Portland Trailblazers versus the LA Lakers in the NBA championship? I think this admittance, then dominance on the part of Michael Jordan and his Bulls shows how self aware, then great a basketball player his airness was! What do you think about this?

  1. Jordan's preference for Portland over LA was just a common sense answer considering the context of that time, as the speaker in this video already mentioned. Nevertheless, If we really dig down and think about it, the Magic had already won 5 championships of 8 appearances, so if they were playing LA in the Finals, it seems like Jordan thought he wanted to play them after he won a championship experience also.

  2. Couldnt agree more, to me personally, its perfect start of MJ dimonation, he took the throne from an all time great and the greatest pointguard ever, we were blessed with the greatest layup in basketball history

  3. MJ wasn't really scared of anyone his 6-0 finals record is perfect with 6 finals MVP's it was his time to rule the NBA with the Bulls

  4. Love this channel man it's pretty cool you brought SFR-Robin Uncommon Cents Nick and AOH all together dude. Keep going hard

  5. The blazers were in the finals the year before. Jordan got lucky the Lakers were old and hurt. Lakers won game 1.

  6. Magic had a good roster…Then it all fell apart with injuries in that finals series. You could put an asterisk on this series and the Pistons series when Magic, Scott were out again. Magic probably would be considered the greatest of all time if he'd won those two championships
