How Sixers TRADING Jrue Holiday backfired 🤦🏼‍♂️

there’s process Defenders process Defenders that’s a new thing that I just learned existed because I think a lot of times I’ll say something right and I’ll be damn sure I’ll be damn sure nobody’s going to argue I’ll be like nobody can argue this if I say the process failed nobody can argue that right right you can’t argue that oh but they will oh but they will and so here’s some of the comments here’s what the post said is it crazy that the player the Sixers traded to start the process is about to be a two-time NBA champion and the process was a failure you cannot write how cursed the Sixers are as an NBA franchise and here is some of the comments that are I guess defending uh defending that or arguing against that um somebody said I can’t believe you guys are still fans and I said you know it’s just in our blood if you don’t understand that you just don’t understand that um somebody said we the fans have to stop living in the past and what could have been should have would have happened no we don’t we literally don’t have to do that we can complain about the Sixers franchise forever as long as we want to uh because me personally I’ve been watching it since ’95 and nothing great has happened the Iverson era was fun to watch uh at least that went deep into the playoffs you know at least I got to witness an NBA Finals appearance uh but no we’re always going to complain about the Sixers they’ve been losing forever um here’s one it wasn’t the process wasn’t a fail we ended up with Joel embiid I could I can see if he was the star of the team I can see if he was the star of the team I don’t know what that means he’s a solid role player that we traded it oh they’re talking about Drew holiday okay it wasn’t a fail we ended up with him beat I could see if he was the star of the team he’s a solid role player that we traded and end up with an MVP Drew holiday was an All-Star in 2013 before the Sixers traded him and I’m not saying Drew holiday uh is the star of the team either as far as stats go but I did say I got into a big argument on the Discord a couple of months ago because I said that Drew holiday was a major part of that Milwaukee Bucks Championship run and maybe the biggest part of it and what I meant by that was they were down 02 in that NBA Finals series by trying to force Giannis an to to kumbo from the top of the key and as soon as buen hoer finally started putting the ball more in Drew holiday’s hands and running the game from the top of the key and putting Giannis under the rim and letting Drew holiday create the offense they won the NBA Championship so Drew holiday is the exact epitome of a player that is insanely valuable and the stat she will never show it who is the star of the Celtics team right now it ain’t Jason Tatum so far in two games Jaylen Brown’s been cooking and his defense has been unbelievable also and you know as much as I’ve talked about Jaylen Brown being the highest NBA player paid NBA player of all time and and everything the past two years he’s proven me wrong Jaylen Brown is proving to be incredibly valuable and of course they have porzingis and Derek white and I mean the team’s just absolutely stacked so Tatum doesn’t have to carry but Drew holiday is a major major major reason that that team is as good as it is right now an offensive and defensive point guard facilitator can catch and shoot can can bully people in the paint can finish at the ri I mean the dude is is unbelievable and the Sixers traded him and if they would have saw if they if they would have found a different way to get to top of the draft while keeping Drew holl uh and let him develop over the years they could have slowly built a championship roster one thing you could have done you could look at always look in hindsight but say they keep Drew holiday right and then in 200 what 14 you draft yianis sand Dumbo or 2013 Holiday was drafted 2011 I believe or maybe 2010 uh yeah if they could draft correctly or if they just maybe maybe Giannis wasn’t a draft pick that anybody knew was going to be a superstar but other teams seem to get lucky we got lucky on Tyrese Maxi don’t get me wrong but they if they would have just gotten lucky at some point in that 2010 to 2 whatever uh you know you could have had holiday and Giannis and build around that you wouldn’t have had to tank and be at the top of the draft 5 years at the top of the draft and the only player you came up with was Joel embiid that’s crazy uh someone said at this point are you a fan or not yeah a frustrated one to be fair the NBA stopped the process before the GM was finished that’s a take that I that I always kind of uh fire back on because when you really look at what Sam hanky was doing as the years go by and I watch other teams build uh contenders and build teams that fit and make sense I’m sorry guys I know people loved Sam Hy at the time and I know Sam Hy was heralded as the the process and hinky died for our sins and whatever else when you really look at it Sam hanky had no clue what he was doing as far as building an NBA roster Sam hanky all he did was gutted the team to be the worst team possible to get to the top of the draft but once he was at the top of the draft he drafted the best player available every single time and did not think about fit around Joel embiid to be fair Joel embiid was still a mythical creature at the time and I guess people didn’t know that he was ever going to play because of the foot thing but if he would have just said Joel’s going to be healthy in the next year or so I should draft for fit around Joel embiid and if I can’t get that at number one I should trade out of it looking back this is what you should have done if it’s easy to look back and say what you should have done but that’s what he should have done drafting a 610 Point guarder won’t shoot the ball we probably should have traded out of that pick drafting Marquel folz was a good pick I’m I don’t care what anybody says he was a 41% three-point shooter in college he was the best uh three-point shooter off the dribble in college he averaged 31 points per game he was the best pullup mid-range shooter he made perfect sense as a ball creating off the dribble shooter in college and he was the unanimous number one he forgot how to shoot or he hurt his shoulder and never learned how to shoot again that might be the craziest story in NBA history really cuz how the [ __ ] does that happen the Ben Simmons thing you could see the signs right if you if you dug deep and looked at his at his draft profiles and what people were saying in Australia and what people were saying at LSU you could have made the case to not draft Ben Simmons number one or you could have traded out of the pick cuz you you thought he wasn’t going to fit with Joelle that probably would have been a smart move but the Marquel folz thing was totally unpredictable and that might be the craziest thing that could happen to an NBA franchise or trading for uh Andrew bham and he tears his ACL in a bowling alley right but it’s okay to say the process was a failure bro they haven’t been out of the second round they didn’t even get out of the first round this year it’s okay to say that man um what else we got man uh Drew we failed you uh terrible GM after terrible GM can’t draft quality Talent can’t trade for Jack [ __ ] can’t recognized potential if it was back hanging them in the face not crazy the process made every team better except the [Laughter] Sixers this was a fun one not cursed just a horrible front office you traded Drew away because you drafted MCW early on they they traded MCW too drafted three centers and beat Oka for Noel traded away all your assets for fults traded away all your assets for fults n really gave Simmons and Toby max deals and kicked Jimmy Butler to the curb it’s like nobody in that front office watches basketball yeah that all of those but it is cursed because the fols thing is why I say they’re cursed because even when they did do the right thing and drafted the perfect player he somehow lost his ability to shoot a basketball I need people to understand how in insane that is that’s insane and it will never happen again only to the Sixers only to the Sixers that’s why I say they’re cursed traded for Andrew bham put Billboards up and the guy tore his ACL in a bowling alley and never played a single game for the S that’s crazy somebody cast a spell on this team in a past life that’s what happened that’s why Drew holiday is on the thumbnail I just wanted to rant a little bit about how crazy it is that you started what you thought was going to be a winning formula by trading this player and he is now taking his second team to an NBA championship and the Celtics are stacked and there’s nothing we can do about it as much as I hate the Celtics look at the team they were the fan I fans you were right the whole season I called them frauds all year I said they don’t have a winning mentality when you have that many good players on a roster I don’t think Jason Tatum has a winning mentality but when you have that many good players on a roster Jason Tatum doesn’t have to have a Mamba mentality he doesn’t have to be Kobe Bryant he doesn’t have to be Allen Iverson he doesn’t have to be LeBron James Michael Jordan he can just be Jason Tatum

The Sixers tanked on purpose to build a championship team and the entire thing was a failure. Joel Embiid is the only player the 76ers got out of years of losing on purpose.

  1. Until Embiid is traded, retires or isn't the same player, NO. The Process story isn't over and this offseason is the deciding factor in the process. Jrue was probably never winning a title here in Philly. He went nowhere in New Orleans either so there's that. Jrue has been on 2 loaded teams the last 4 years, that's what's made him look so good now. Jrue is an ELITE role player, not a superstar leading a team to a championship. Hell, Maxey right now at just 23 is better than Jrue ever was (hate me all you want but he's not the player Maxey is). I've been a Sicko since 1999 and it's sad that all I have as a Sicko is that magical 2001 season. It freaking sucks but it is what it is.

  2. Tatum is the "Ross Dress for Less" version of Kobe. Straight facts! Dude has been a no show in these finals yet they're up 2-0…must be nice. We'd need Embiid to average 40 for us to be in their position. Sixers are a mess lol

  3. The initial tank was a very good idea that became badly mismanaged as the years went on. No team with Jrue Holiday as its best player is contending for a title so let's not play Monday morning quarterback now that he's doing great in the finals as a supporting player. Trading Holiday allowed us to tank for Embiid and that is not a trade I would say "backfired." What "backfired" was having cheap, clueless owners who know fuck all about basketball. Having Jrue on this sinking ship instead of Embiid is not the thing to be mourning now, and how Jrue performs for a franchise that knows how to actually contend is irrelevant. Despite some of Embiid's shortcomings, he's still been one of the league's best players the last 5 seasons. Boston probably could've gotten this far with Embiid too and then some. Let's not act like we aren't just bogged down in decades of mediocre ownership, as if things would've been so different if we just "woulda, shoulda, coulda'd." The organization is simply mediocre. Too bad there hasn't been a Middleton/Lurie type owner for the Sixers since who even knows when.

  4. Don't talk about the champs. Until you get one about Tatum. You could have had him and JB but horrible draft pick. Bye Philly yall are soft

  5. 6:39 Fultz was not a good pick, not at #1 overall.

His entire college career was an injury-shortened freshman season, where he played for the 2nd worst team in the PAC-12. That’s not somebody you hitch your franchise to, EVER.

Oh but his 3PT % was good… how’d that work out in the NBA? 27.4% career 3PT shooter 💀

  6. Basically we traded Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noels, after that we just start making terrible pick drafting three centers while we had Joel embiid. Not top guards, not top forwards, just a bunch of centers who either couldn't shoot, couldn't jump, couldn't run, couldn't rebound, couldn't shoot foul shots, couldn't think, couldn't defend, couldn't dunk, and should not have been drafted

  7. To me the process was a span of 2 and 1/2 years. It was born and died with Sam Hinkie. Everything after that was just the NBA punishing the 76ers and the front office constantly throwing assets away.

  8. The process was a complete failure, the sixers have not had a real GM since Pat Williams. The failure starts with ownership not hiring the right people to build a championship NBA team. The sixers currently have star hunter and Nick Nurse (Glenn Rivers 2.0) Nurse is a little better but the same mentality. Nick Nurse's claim to fame is winning the championship with a healthy Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors did not win, nothing since he left the team.

We watch Tobias quit on the team and Nick Nurse did nothing but keep Ricky Council on the bench and KJ Martin. And to sum it up, Nick Nurse and star hunter would rather LOSE a playoff series then play young players that can help the team win, and that's SICK.
It is so sad now that the sixers fans will be happy if the sixers get out of the second round next season, it will be for them like winning the championship. I thought winning the championship is the prize, wow.

  9. Gannis was the player I looked at during that time because he fit what we were attempting to do. He was 6’8 Uber athletic possible wing. Not good enough to drastically change the trajectory but could have developed into a solid player. He went on to be a MVP and nba champion

  10. Processed failed because it was never completed he got fired too soon lol we should of traded embiid forever ago and built around Ben Simmons with a fuck ton of shooters back when Ben was a good player

  11. I get DJ’s argument on Sam fumbling on moves…. I don’t get everyone else quit to bash it and trying to lump Colangelo, brand, and Morey together as Hinkie’s doing …. That’s not the process …. I remember SAS talking bad about us every day. I remember agents telling players not to sign with us and players in the draft not to work out for us. What GM could build a dynasty under that situation? It’s literally reverse collusion vs The NBA

  12. the process failed because of the bad draft picks. the insistence on red shirting was annoying, but trading holiday and blowing up that team was the right move. hinkie got too much credit for his “trust the process” idea, which was just cope for bad draft picks and bad team building. any good gm would have blown up that sixers team, but no good gm would take that long to build a quality team.

trying to get 5 top 10 picks of overrated. you cant pay that many stars anyway. you should be able to get by with 2-3. develop some late lottery picks, and sign some good players. it shouldnt take that long to rebuild.

  13. Celtics are so lucky to have deep balance, 1 thru 7, playoff ready players..Holiday was run out of town by sports talk hosts

  14. Celtics were just as bad as the Sixers at that time and choose building the team, fleecing teams in trades or outdraft teams..

  15. Isn’t it funny that Fultz and Simmons forgot how to shoot.,and your wrong on Fultz, don’t you think the Celtics would’ve taken him if he was all that and a bag of chips..Do you think that they wanted the Sixers to have another Andrew Toney..They know players, know how to trade, how to draft, how to run a team, know how to fix players…Sixers don’t know Jack

  16. Imo the process, which was basically Hinkies plan to bottom out and draft bpa and capitalize on value in trades, was a good idea. He committed to it and by the time he was fired he had accumulated a ton of assets and Embiid. Yes there are misses with the high picks but they were essentially shooting for the stars every time. Markelle and Simmons could’ve been superstars but injuries, ego, or motivation held them back. When the Sixers fired Hinkie they went immediately into cash in mode and the execution was obviously not the best lol. So I think it’s hard to fault Hinkie and the original plan since he could never see it through. And it was a long term plan for sustainable success. Just got cold feet too quick

  17. My biggest problem with modern fans and their takes on things like this there is little to no analysis being done. Yes ultimately "The Process" is a failure but can we analyse why other than just saying "Stinkie's plan was to fail for 5 years". Truth is the worst run of luck in the history of sports forced us into stinking for as long as we did. Joel missing 2 years, Noel, Ben and basically Fultz missing their first year and the fact that in both Ben and Markelle we have NEVER seen anything like their situations in the history of sports.

Markelle forgot how to do the most basic thing in basketball. Ben let the pressure of doing the most basic thing scare him into forgetting how to play basketball. Its truly as if we are cursed and yes the process was a failure but man did we have some bad luck.

Ben was the right pick (not made by Hinkie) IMO Markelle was obviously the right pick IMO but no one could see either of their mental issues coming it's the weirdest thing in pro sports history. Thankfully the basketball Gods smiled on us with Tyrese.

  18. Process made the team competitive at highest level. MVP on the team. Won a division. If you consider exciting top level basketball as a failure. The your going to be disappointed through life with the all or nothing attitude. Sixers have been constantly relevant due to the Process.

A chip would be nice. But it's also nice to be in that conversation year after year. Process= success. Just not #1

  19. 95 try 1980 40 years n no rings in a major basketball city. Had a chip in every decade until the 90’s. Bad management bad drafting and the worst free agent signings possible

  20. We hired the wrong coach. Doc Rivers destroyed Ben Simmons. MJ Fultz played for a 5-20 college team. Not a winning player

  21. You can’t call the process of failure. I would grade it an incomplete because the NBA forced us to get rid of my boy Sam Hinkie. I think if Hinkie was able to orchestrate his complete plan for the process, we’d all be singing a different tune about how well it worked. I had absolutely no problem with the Sixers tanking. The worst thing you can be in the NBA is a stuck in limbo, perennial eighth seed destined to get smoked out of the first round of the playoffs by the top seed every year and then all you have to show for it is a mid first round pick that may or may not be a playable role player at best. Unless you are extremely lucky and wind up with Giannis, Devin Booker. Look at the Orlando magic and what an irrelevant dumpster fire of an organization that they have been since the Dwight Howard days. Is that what you want your 76ers to be because I sure as hell don’t. No thanks. I think if we surround Embiid and Maxey with just a competent supporting cast then we have as good as a chance as any other team in the league to win the whole thing barring injuries of course.

  22. 5:00 and here's the thing… Embiid would have went number 1 to the Cavs if he didnt get injured during pre draft workouts. 76ers would have been stuck Jabari Parker if that was the case which would have turned out to be a disaster.
