Jerry West Career NBA Highlights

In honor of Jerry West’s legacy and impact on the game of basketball, take a look at his best career highlights from his Hall of Fame career.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Jerry West:

“Jerry West was a basketball genius and a defining figure in our league for more than 60 years. He distinguished himself not only as an NBA champion and an All-Star in all 14 of his playing seasons, but also as a consummate competitor who embraced the biggest moments. He was the league’s first Finals MVP and made rising to the occasion his signature quality, earning him the nickname ‘Mr. Clutch’.

“Jerry’s four decades with the Lakers also included a successful stint as a head coach and a remarkable run in the front office that cemented his reputation as one of the greatest executives in sports history. He helped build eight championship teams during his tenure in the NBA – a legacy of achievement that mirrors his on-court excellence. And he will be enshrined this October into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor, becoming the first person ever inducted as both a player and a contributor.

“I valued my friendship with Jerry and the knowledge he shared with me over many years about basketball and life. On behalf of the NBA, we send our deepest condolences to Jerry’s wife, Karen, his family and his many friends in the NBA community.”

  1. Way before my time but his game is timeless, a very clever player who appeared to be a step ahead mentally at all times, clever spacing techniques and shot timing. R.I.P Jerry

  2. Only player ever to win a Finals MVP in a loss. That should tell you how cold he was. Absolute legend.

  3. Bro averaged 30/5/5 in the Finals.. what a fucking beast. RIP. Most “ahead-of-his-time” player probably ever.

  4. Less than 4 minutes for the LOGO? put some respect on his name, Mr. West. Absolute legend, Rest in Peace.

  5. I was blessed to grow up in LA in the 60s and 70s.
Being able to see a Laker game featuring a starting 5 of West, Baylor, Chamberlain, Goodrich, and Hairston was always a treat.
Most nights it was listening to the great Chick Hearn calling the action on radio.
Nobody fought harder in a basketball game than Jerry West.
He'd chew out Chamberlain or Hairston for seeming to slack going up and down court.
He was always feeding Baylor inside or Goodrich outside for easy open shots, since the defense had to collapse on West if he was driving.
It is very sad that many of the NBA players who were active in the 1960s, such as Jerry West and Bill Russell, have passed away.

  6. Rest in peace to Jerry West. The one who really made basketball into what it is now.
