Windhorst on Porzingis’ ‘rare injury’: There’s no track record for it in the NBA | SC with SVP

and the Celtics have officially listed christops porzingis as questionable it’s a rare injury you’ve probably seen on social media the the medical term it’s very complicated but it’s rare the injury occurred in the third quarter of game two unclear exactly how it happened here are porzingis and Missoula with more obviously it’s not uh ideal situation but uh who cares uh I’m here to be a soldier and to try to help this team win nothing’s going to stop me unless you know I’m I’m told not to no let me play I Feel Good like let’s do treatment um but obviously yeah they they’re you know I cannot trick them into making me you know allowing me to play but but I will try thanks folks that’s all thank it’s a serious injury um and at the end of the day our team and and the medical team is not going to put him uh in any bad situation and so uh we’ve taken a decision to play out of his hands doesn’t sound promising for his availability meanwhile Luca donic receiving a painkilling injection to numb the area of his thoracic contusion prior to the game two loss in Boston that’s what sources told ESPN Tuesday the expectation is that he would receive another injection before game three tomorrow according to sources donic listed as probable as the Mavericks look to get their their first victory in the series he has been excellent the rest of the Maverick starters have failed to produce nearly anything in this series two from 21 from Beyond The Arc as opposed to Luca who’s going eight for 21 from three donic had doesn’t assist the rest of the Maverick starters have tallied just one more so more perspective from an analytical lens ball movement a major issue for the maps 315 total touches in game one the fewest by any team in a game and over the last three three postseasons 326 in game two the second fewest by any team in the last three postseasons trailing only if you’re following along here them from game one meanwhile the Dallas defense which has never been a strength but has been a whole lot better recently hasn’t been able to stay in front of the Celtics in Boston knows it 35 blowb in game two According to second Spectrum the most by any team in a game all season that’s regular season or playoffs Jason Tatum has led the charge in that area 13 blow buys on drives in game one 19 in game two and According to second Spectrum that’s the most blowb by any player in a game all season long so as the final shift to Dallas clearly the Mavericks are hoping that home cooking works out but the Celtics haven’t lost on the road this postseason and in fact over the past three years you’re looking at an historic clip of winning in the postseason on the road Brian windhorse joins us now from Dallas and the Celtics have demonstrated as well this postseason that their success isn’t porzingis dependent they’re 5- one with and they’re nine and one without and now another injury pops up how are they proceeding regarding his potential availability or not for game three and Beyond Brian well this is such a rare injury Scott I’ve never seen about it or heard it there’s almost no track record of it in the NBA so it’s very hard hard to predict how he’s going to feel tomorrow and if he can play what he might look like out there what I can tell you is this he looked great in games one and two he was a humongous differen maker in those games and while the Celtics have are basically going to be able to continue their starting lineup no matter what the big thing here is Al Horford Al Horford when he plays 25 minutes or less 25 28 minutes is extremely effective when he’s got to play more like like 32 35 he his his Effectiveness goes down and look they’re plus 25 with porzingis on the court they’re even with him off the court so even if he’s limited it opens up a door for Dallas to to try to use this as a unexpected Edge in this trying to get back in this series as we’ve just mentioned Boston’s been so good on the road but if Dallas is going to flip the script here which they clearly have to do to get back in the series something will have to change where where does it have to start for them Brian okay so Kyrie Irving flat out has just got to be better I mean this is something he uh absolutely understands he talked about it he’s you know gone up to Luca and like personally apologize for not being more of a factor and look the Celtics are giving him problems they have terrific uh you know perimeter Defenders that stay in front of him they’re so so crisp and how they handle they’re switching they switch and then unswitched it’s really a tough situation they have great length that they rotate onto him they don’t have a problem with it but Kyrie has got to be more decisive less dribbling more action he’s holding on the ball too long not making aggressive plays the rest of their offense the rest of the things that are being issues can be managed but if Kyrie isn’t great if he’s not a top two or three player in this series Dallas doesn’t have a chance and that’s got to start obviously in game three I totally agree with that I and it’s about that he can’t be a middling player he’s got to be a star which he’s been in the playoffs up until these first two games that and they’ve got to make threes don’t do that and we could be looking at a wrap I would think Brian wior hopefully we can talk again after game three Wednesday we [Music] [Applause] will on [Applause]

Brian Windhorst joins SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt to discuss the status of Kristaps Porzingis after suffering an injury during the Boston Celtics’ Game 2 win over the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic receiving a pain-killing injection before Game 2.

  1. This was said in passing by SVP but not harped on that much, The Lack of Ball Movement by the Mavs, esp Doncic but also Kyrie…

They hold on to the ball and play way too much 1-on-1, freezing out the other players, then everybody says the rest of the team has to play better….
They're not being really involved in the offense then they're expected to just shoot lights out or make clutch shots when they do touch the ball…

Jason Kidd has to address that for the Mavs to have a fighting chance..

  2. Celtics is proving western conference teams are weak too 😂…..they gonna confirm that tonight with injury list.

  3. Celts need 5-6 minutes of KP per quater to keep the Mavs at bay. BUT…I have no doubt that Horford will come through in game 3. Predicting a huge game from Tatum too

  4. Had this exact same injury when I played intramural bball! Taped it up tight and next game went out and scored 14pts to lead team blue to victory! Legend!!

  5. Part of the game. Players take the risk and get injured.
Pay him his full contract (24-25 and 25-26 seasons) and let him retire from basketball forever…NO BUYOUTS
this is why the NBA and ALL PRO LEAGUES NEEED guaranteed contracts..

  6. Tells you how much these people really watch the games and/or how they watch. Saying Luka has been “excellent” but no one else has? Why cause he has scored? His defense is ATROCIOUS. He has so many TERRIBLE turnovers. Luka is out there playing with the urgency of game 11 in regular season.

  7. If you want to learn about this injury go to Brian Sutterer channel. He is an MD and he goes into great details about this injury. In a nutshell he can play he will be in pain and after the series he will need surgery to repair this injury. I say tape it up, numb it up and man up.

  8. Way tatum and brown have been shooting this is bad for the celtics. Missing a reliable 20 pointer off the bench is going to hurt them bad not to mention his defensive presence. Mavs are going to cook them game 3

  9. not sure why people are surprised – big people put more stress on their bodies than smaller dudes.. note embiid, yannis, kd and many others missed games; unfair to say they are made of glass, this sport played at an elite level of fitness or not at all; given the situation it would be prudent to rest kp for game 3 and then re-evaluate after a few days

  10. This is going to impact the series in a bad way for Boston I’m telling ya this ain’t good

  11. Hopefully Porzingis will sit out the next couple of games at least. The injury he has could become a career-ending injury if he hurts it worse.

  12. Celtics ain’t play nobody they main threat was Milwaukee and Knicks other than that no competition in east

  13. THE KARMIC RECIPROCITY IS VISITING THE CELTICS FOR
1.THEIR MEDICAL MALTREATMENT OF ISAIAH THOMAS
2.RACIALLY DISPARATE TREATMENT/ DISCIPLINE OF IME UDOKA

  14. I feel like he sprained when he landed on PJ Washington or something and this is just nonsense because we're up 2-0, we're really counting on Porzingis for the threepeat, and we're really don't want to give him more chances to aggravate it.

Something tells me we'll only see him again if the Mavs win a couple games.
