UPDATE On OG Anunoby & Isaiah Hartenstein’s Future | Knicks News

what is going on Nick Nation welcome back to Nick media my name is Richie and we have a report from sny’s Ian Begley the latest news of Isaiah hardenstein and OG anobi we saw a report a few days ago saying that the Oklahoma City Thunder are threat to take away Isaiah hardenstein because of their cap space and their situation over there and now we’re hearing from our own Ian Begley saying that there is strong interest from opposing teams but the Knicks feel like they are quote in a good place on both players as they approach approach free agency trying to retain both OG and hartenstein so I want to share my thoughts of this report and more importantly I want to hear from Nicks fans in the comments section down below what you feel what’s your level of optimism as we’re in the middle of article on sny.tv so basically somebody asked Ian Begley on this article a question saying realistic offseason for the Knicks would be resign OG and iHeart cashing some picks and add another uh player how content do you think the Knicks will be running back the current Squad if a clear star is not available for a trade and then Ian Begley responds thanks for the questions Mike and Anthony I group these two together because they both address the idea of New York resigning ogan anobi and isai hardenstein to directly answer the question I think the Knicks would be fairly content to run a back with this squad for next season this year’s team if healthy had a strong chance to make the Eastern Conference Finals even with all their injuries the Knicks still probably should have reached the Eastern Conference Finals so it’s easy to see the merits of bringing the current roster back for another run but whether it’s this off season or further down the line the Knicks will be aggressive if an opportunity significantly improves their roster arises with the regards to running it back the Knicks obviously want to bring back both anobi and hardenstein anobi has a player option that is most likely to decline to become a free agent the Knicks can ink an anobi to a Max deal of 5 years $245 million in free agency which is really a high number and then down the article it says New York will also have a strong competition for hardenstein due to salary cap rules the Knicks can offer hardenstein a contract starting at roughly $6 million next season annually the Knicks can offer to be as much as 72.5 million over four years teams with significant cap space that can offer hardenstein much more than 16 mil are the 76ers the magic the Pistons and the Thunder the Raptors the Hornets all project to have sizable cap space this summer one worth noting on unob and hardenstein the Knicks obviously know that both players Will Gardner strong interest from opposing teams but even factoring that in members of the organization felt earlier this offseason that they were in a good place on both anobi and hardenstein as both players approached free agency that’s according to people in touch with the team that’s their season ended in a second round loss to Indiana so that’s really all the article has to say um basically what I’m taking away from this is yes there’s going to be a lot of interest from other teams regarding hardenstein I have more optimism of the Knicks residing OG and anobi than I do Isaiah hardenstein just because when it comes to hardenstein he has a decision to make and this isn’t breaking news we already knew this hardenstein has to make a decision because it’s either he’s staying with the Knicks at $16 million per year for a 4-year $72 million contract or he gets paid more around 20 plus million doll to a team like the Thunder or the Raptors or another team with more cap space offering him that contract that’s really what it comes down to with isah hardenstein the ball is in his court the Knicks can only do so much but the Knicks do still strong uh they feel strongly about retaining both of them they have optimism that they’ll be able to bring them back and the one thing I’ve learned about this Knicks organization in the front office with Leon Rose is they really prioritize bringing back that R they extend Ed Josh Hart last off seon they obviously extended Julius Randle twice they gave RJ Barrett that extension before they traded him of course they gave Mitchell Robinson an extension they do like to give their own players extensions Duce McBride as well so I really think that Leon Rose is going to try his best to keep both of them and I’m holding out hope that both of these players will be New York Knicks next season so let me
