Lakers Hiring Jay Wright or JJ Reddick After Being REJECTED by Dan Hurley? | Lakers Coaching Update!
[Music] well back to the drawing board following the Lakers having been rejected by Dan Hurley they will now pivot back to their backup plan or maybe backup plans with another interesting name having been quietly linked to them during the Dan Hurley drama now I do think that JJ reic will be at the top of their list again for better or worse but I don’t think he is the only guy they you’re considering with the other known Target being James bgo but another Darkhorse Target could be former Villanova head coach and current analyst Jay Wright and according to Mark Stein he is currently being viewed as a quote unquote stealth candidate to become the Lakers head coach and Stein definitely is in the loop though would he really be a good option well that’ll depend on who you ask but I do think he should be up for consideration at this point I mean really none of their current candidates compared to Dan Hurley in my opinion he’s got the coaching background being a head coach for 15 years now he would have been young enough to be with their team for 5 to 10 years and then not to mention how intense he is all of which would have been great qualities to their new head coach but again that unfortunately won’t be happening and we’re going to talk about where they go from here in regard to finding a new head coach along with what happened with Dan Hurley but before we get too far into it if you want to stay up to date with everything Lakers throughout the offseason then don’t forget to subscribe to the channel and hit that notification Bell to never miss out when I upload a video but without further Ado let’s dive right into it and we’ll be Begin by talking about what went wrong with Dan Hurley which there are actually a couple of things for one he simply cannot pass up the opportunity to three repeat something that has not been done for 50 years now in college dating all the way back to John Woody and Kareem Abdul Jabar at UCLA and well John Wooden won seven NCAA championships in a row yeah nobody is ever touching that though even having the opportunity to win three in a row it literally immortalized Dan Hurley and anytime you have the opportunity to put your name with John Wood in well I think you got to take that which I think is what it came down to here with him after all it definitely did not come down to money even with the $100 million reported deal apparently not being true he was still offered a contract of 70 million from them and according to W Dan Hurley really thought about taking it this was not an easy decision for him you know he viewed this I’m told as really a once in a-lifetime offer now he had already been talking with Yukon about a new deal about another contract after winning his back-to-back title that will put him among the highest paid coaches in college basketball uh but they’ll eventually I’m told finish that up uh but the Lakers money was substantial uh nearly $122 million a year uh and again Hurley thought long and hard about this this is the 20th anniversary of the Lakers courtship of Duke smike Shashi he stayed at Duke and now Dan Hurley returns uh to the two-time defending champion Connecticut Huskies again I really don’t think the contract offer made him say no I know there’s some talk going on right now about the Lakers lowballing him but I really don’t agree with that sure it might have been nice to offer him a bit more but even what they offered him would have put him in the top six among current NBA head coaches and you rarely have ever seen that happen for a first time head coach I think he would have and maybe will eventually do well in the NBA but offering that kind of contract to a non-nba head coach can be taken quite the risk and I for one don’t think that they low balled him in reality I really don’t think it came down to money in the first place I mean he has now apparently been offered a $50 million contract by the University of Connecticut so he’ll be getting paid no matter what he does or where he goes don’t worry about it the guy will be making money now you can argue if offering him a bit more would have changed his mind but again I really don’t think it would have It ultimately came down to him wanting to make history at the college level which is something that you cannot really put a price on and with him having a top five ranked team going into next season hle is a great opportunity to make it happen now if he did not have a good team then yeah I think he may have thought more about it which he already thought heavily about it to begin with but again that’s simply not the case here and with that in mind where do the Lakers go from here and well like I mentioned before I think an interesting name for them might be Jay Wright another all-time great college coach he has in fact been linked to their team and with him having been very open about retiring early due to modern-day college recruiting I don’t think that rues SM from coaching in the NBA though I I do think he would be a downgrade from Dan Hurley not from a standpoint of knowledge for the game or even the quality of head coach that he would be but simply with him being a bit older J Wright is 62 after all and well that would not make him a long-term fit for them at head coach I mean they could probably at best hope to get around five good years from him which is not bad by any means but does not really fit their goal finding a long-term head coach and especially with him not being a guaranteed bet again you simply never know with a college coach I think Dan Hurley would have been the exception due to his brilliant offense but I’m not sure that many would translate all that well and with J Wright having been around for a long time now literally over 30 years he might be a bit more oldfashioned which may not translate that well to the modern NBA although if he really would want to become their head coach I don’t think you can Overlook the background here nearly 30 years of coaching background and not to mention being a two-time NCAA champion and when compared to a guy like JJ reck there is simply no comparison to be made or at least not regard to coaching background which I do think should be one of the top most important factors for them though more likely than not J Wright will stay retired I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of a former college coach making the jump to the NBA at over 60 years old let L making it work and I really doubt that J wght wants to try and do it if not him though that’ll leave that with the other names that we have been talking about for about a month now including JJ reick James bgo and Sam Cassell none of which are bad options but definitely not the level of Dan Hurley let alone even a younger Jay Wright and well they may have even lost an opportunity with one of them with bgo apparently gaining momentum to become head coach to the Cleveland Cavaliers which really would be disappointing I don’t really want him to become their head coach but I would love to see him on the Lakers staff potentially being the lead assistant for JJ reck giving him a former head coach to help him learn and then while I don’t think Sam Cassell would be a bad option I think he is kind of the backup plan to their backup plan likely having been the fourth option behind Hurley reick and brego though I would not rule them out becoming an assistant coach for them but at the end of the day I think it will ultimately come down to them hiring JJ reic with the only thing that might have affected that being with them obviously preferring Dan Hurley over him and who knows maybe that made him rethink wanting to become their head coach I kind of doubt it but hey I guess you never know he is a former athlete after all and you already know the competitive nature that comes with that with not a single one of them like to be passed up on although I don’t think you’ll necessarily view it that way I mean we’re not talking about an amateur head coach they preferred over him we talking talking about Dan Hurley one of if not the best coach in college right now and not to mention one that reic has a lot of respect for too even inviting him on his own podcast back in April and with that in mind yes I do think that reic would still want to become their head coach and I imagine a Lakers are putting him back in their top three if not even top one but again if they do hire him I really hope they find a former head coach if not multiple of them to bring with him and if bgo ends up going to Cleveland I hope they find a way to bring now former Cleveland head coach JB bickers after their team I mentioned him during a video I made last week and I think he would be a prime coaching candidate to have as their top assistant one with over 20 years of an NBA background although with only being 45 years old making him a potential long-term fit alongside JJ reic but to wrap everything up here though I am a bit let down by Dan Hurley rejecting them but I’m really not that shocked or even mad about it and with it the Lakers have to Pivot back to their old plan likely including JJ reic but with all of that being said what do you guys think how do you feel about them missing out on Dan Hurley and who would you like to see them go after instead let me know your thoughts in the comments down below that will do it for this video though big thank you to those of you who took the time to watch until the end of this video and until the end of all my videos in general I really hope you enjoyed it and if Woj lied and Jeanie is a horrible owner. Those are the facts stop making excuses.
Bring in Jeff Van Gundy. He's the only one i can think of that wont take no shit from LeBron

lakers w lbj s d hardest team to coach –
Hands down Jay Wright should be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, I’m still trying to figure out what is there to think about?
I think Dan would have been a good coach, but we all got to remember college is different compared to NBA level
Like with everything else, there are no guarantees in sports.
I don't believe that Dan Hurley passed up the job because of money. The offer would have made him the 5th highest paid HC in the NBA for someone with no NBA coaching experience.
I believe that it dealt with roster construction and what the front office was going to do in order to satisfy LeBron James. To just give away a massive contract extension to an aging superstar that plays laxadazile defense and flops, complains, and criticizes teammates, coaches, front offices, and refs as he throws tantrums on the court, is just too much to take in. On top of that, the new HC will be forced to play the King's son that is sure to cause dissension and havoc in the locker room.
Jay Wright or James Borrego should be the Lakers next head coach hands-down!!!
we will hire Frank to return if the Suns hire Ham
Why is JJ even being considered he hasn't done anything since college? No championships, no Awards in the NBA, no All-Star appearances. What are his qualifications? Who has he coached before?
We really need Bob Myers as our new GM no matter the cost
I would like to see Rondo as the coach
Hurley would have been great, but sort of thought he always stay with UConn. Not in love with a head coach with no experience, but if we can Reddick with a Bickerstaff level of lead assistant, it could work. Certainly better than what we have been working with. At the very least, you figure Reddick knows how to handle the rotation.
we need a Chinese head coach they are smart af
