Heat Rumors: Donovan Mitchell REPORTEDLY Staying In Cleveland + Sign Kevon Looney?

[Music] loaded heat show on tap for all of you today Donovan Mitchell is he going to be staying with the Cleveland Cavaliers and signing a long-term extension that will be where we start Today’s show but on the back half we’re talking cavon Looney could the heat go out and sign the veteran center after it seems like he is likely going to be released by the Golden State Warrior this is the heat report by chat sports I am your host Nick rolloff and let’s just jump right into the Donovan Mitchell news because this was all originated from Michael Scot the NBA Insider who had this little report yesterday he said that rival NBA Executives believe Donovan Mitchell will sign a Max extension for at least the next three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers and I did call Michael Scott own NBA Insider but it’s not like he’s Chris Haynes Adrien rinowski or sham shiran or Brian Wind Horse even for that matter so I am not completely sold on this report being 1,000% accurate but I do have to provide some context for all the Heat fans out there and tell you that some other people like Windor and Shams have also hinted at the fact that the majority of people believe Donovan Mitchell will be signing a long-term deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers that he is eligible for this off seon which we’ll talk more about in just a second but we are struggling in a big time way in our shares leaderboard in the month of June we are in last place from our Eastern Conference teams Yes you heard that correctly 76ers now Nicks now Bulls report and Celtics today I’ll have at least 20 more shares in the month of June than we do so help me out help yourself out because more shares equals more subscribers equals more content so help me out and share today’s video all right when we go back to Donovan Mitchell now and even though I am skeptical of that report from Michael Scot I think it is an important thing to realize that yes he is the number one option for Miami he helps the Jimmy Butler timeline he helps the BAM at a biof future timeline but Miami and Pat Riley needs to have a backup plan in place if Mitchell does sign with the Cavaliers long term so the heat can go a different way and still upgrade this roster to get better from last season and really the last two years where you’ve been a playing team running it back would be absolutely malpractice from Pat Riley in this front office they’ve done that a couple times now they obviously ran it back after going to the finals in the bubble and then they had that disaster of a season then they get Kyle Lowry in the offseason and PJ Tucker they’re the one seed they just come up short they run it back they’re the eight seed and then they do make that magical run and run it back and then well first round exit you cannot do this again and the it sucks to say but the blueprint is there almost because we’ve seen the Boston Celtics they did not rest on their Laurels they have been as successful in Eastern Conference prior to this season as Miami was they made an NBA Finals they made the Eastern Conference Finals three times they were just never able to get over the hump just like Miami what did they do they shipped out their heart and soul Marcus Smart and got kristof’s porzingis then they swing big and capitalize on Drew holiday being available like Brad Stevens is the best executive in the NBA because of what he has been able to do to surround Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown and now they’re going to gross as me to say this win the NBA Finals like you need to have a plan in place to help Jimmy and Bam so you’re not stuck being a playing team for a third straight season and that’s why July 7th is going to be such an interesting time around the NBA why July 7th two players are eligible sign a long-term extend Donovan Mitchell Jimmy Butler what will happen around that time will the Heat offer Jimmy Butler that two-year super max extension maybe they will maybe they won’t will Donovan Mitchell sign that long-term three fouryear extension he’s eligible to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers well if he does well that kind of puts Miami having to go a different route but if he doesn’t that still keeps them alive for D Mitch so that time just about a week after NBA free agency opens will be very interesting in having to be us keep our eyeing out for in the NBA off season so predict it for me will Donovan Mitchell stay in Cleveland and sign that long-term deal with the Cavaliers if you think he’s staying type your s’s if you think he won’t and he’ll end up being traded this offseason typee L’s all right let’s talk Kavon Looney now the center from the Golden State Warriors and if the heat should sign the long-term Veteran Center from UCLA why is this a talking point well the original report came from someone who covers the Golden State Warriors but it was kind of aggregated here by Evan Cedar who said Looney will likely be released by The Warriors to save money on their tax bill only 3 million of Looney’s 8 million salary is guaranteed until it fully locks in on June 24 if Looney is released expect plenty of interest and now that is very important for Miami cuz obviously backup center is still a big need for the heat and cavon Looney has been one of the best centers in the NBA in terms of rebounding and being a glue guy for a contending team over the last six or seven seasons we’ll talk about Looney and his fit in just a second but make sure you are subscribed because we going to bring you Miami Heat videos on a daily basis we have 11,311 subscribers we’re on the road to 12K can we get there before free agency opens in 2 and 1/2 weeks that’s the goal hit that sub button if you want to stay locked in with every everything surrounding the heat all right Looney’s numbers aren’t going to pop off the stat page if you will he’s just not that type of guy but he’s like I said a glue piece that just affects winning in a high capacity good rebounder average 5.7 durable over the last 3 or 4 years played 82 games three seasons ago 74 this past year not going to give you too much offensively outside of putback Dougs and Ali upup on rolls just playing in the dunker spot on other people driving to the rim but okay free through shooter for his size as well 67 and a half% but the reason why I like cavon Looney and think he could be a good fit for the heat is just because of how good of a brand he plays in terms of winning basketball he has been absolutely one of the most intrical parts of the warrior success over the last decade and you might think I’m crazy for saying that because he’s never really average more than 10 points a game or really average 10 rebounds but he only plays 20 to 25 minutes because they often like to go small ball with Draymond Green at the setting spot but when cavon looney was on the floor he helped screen he’s an excellent screener to get Klay Thompson open coming on pin Downs getting Curry dribble handoff opportunities and then creating Second Chance opportunities crashing the offensive glass is what cavon Looney specializes in the amount of times he created Second Chance opportunities and kickouts for open Thompson Jordan p and Curry 3s over the last five seasons has been unbelievable I’m a big fan of Looney and even though he’s a little bit older in age I think he would be a perfect backup center in the 305 we got more to talk about but make sure you are hooked up with these Miami Heat draft hats Yep they’re on sale curved flat brim Snapback they got all the different styles at chatsports.com heat draft hats get yours today whoever the heat draft at 15 will be repping those hats on his Dome he walks the stage in a couple weeks so represent with him remember one more time chatsports.com heatra hats link will be in the description and comments of today’s video I kind of just outlined it for you but if you didn’t get the point yet Looney is a good rebounder and is one of the best rebounders in the entire NBA for the center position I found this statistic very interesting because we showed his 2023 stats where only average five and change rebounds a game but for cavon Looney’s career on a per 36 basis because like I mentioned Looney only averages about 20 to 25 minutes a game for the Warriors but if you were to get starting center minutes and not having to come out for Draymond Green in small ball situations his per 36 rebounding numbers are unbelievable he averages 11.5 rebounds a game per 36 in his career 7.2 of them being on the defensive side of the floor and four of them being on the offensive side he crashes the glass on both ends he can create second chance opportunities in in 15 to 20 minutes off the bench for Miami backing up bam at a bio would be such a better upgrade over Thomas Bryant obviously Bryant has a player option for this upcoming season and we’ll see what he decides to do prior to NBA free agency I’d like to assume and I’d put a money on that he would be opting into this contract but there is no guarantee that he is going to be in a rotation spot he already got phased out at the end of last season so if he wants to try to go to a different team then that would probably make a lot of sense but I do think that he would be an upgrade over Thomas Bryant not going to be a guarantee that he’s on the roster but Looney who can rebound can defend a little bit better than Thomas Bryant I’ll give Bryant The Edge offensively he just is more talented in that range but I want a center that can be better on the glass and defensively more than giving us anything on the offensive end anyway because we’ve tried the offensive centers as backups with Myers Leonard Cody Zeller just has not worked out I got a defensive guy that can really Clash the glass be Pat Riley for me would you sign cavon Looney as the backup center if he is released by the Golden State Warriors type y for yes or type n for no I a big advocate for signing cavon Looney if he is released by the Golden State Warriors he is someone who has affected winning at the highest level has NBA Finals experience NBA postseason experience knows how to play in the dribble handoff as well which is a main stay in an Eric spoler offense he has done it with Klay Thompson with Steph Curry so if he comes in and gives you 15 to 20 minutes off the bench in relief of bam at a bio he can easily keep on doing what bam does offensively in terms of the screening dribble hand off and rolling to the rim plus the offensive rebounds he gives you 4.3 in per 36 for his career on the offensive glass if Looney’s available and he’s there for the right price Pat Riley go sign him but that is the question right would the heat be able to sign Pat Riley due to his price you saw the Tweet earlier there’s expected to be a lot of interest on Looney if he is on the open market and why W he he’s an experienced backup center that has a lot of importance in winning basketball so to me with the heat being $4.6 million underneath the second apron of the luxury tax this contract would have to be relatively cheap now we have mentioned this in the past but Miami in the State of Florida having no state income tax is a factor because they can offer a little bit less than a team like Boston can per se just for an example and you can say to the free agent well you’re getting actually more money even though we’re offering you less due to no taxes so it would be interesting to see what Looney gets paid I would probably assume it’s in the5 to8 million range so if he would sign on that lower end Spectrum at $45 million the heat might be in play here and if Thomas Bryant upside of his player option the need for backup center is there Looney sign him for 45 mil I’m all in but hopefully the heat don’t get out priced that’ll do it for today’s video if you haven’t already follow me on Twitter at Nick rolloff we are going to talk more Heat basketball in 2. Get Dejounte Murray, Lauri Markkanen, or Malik Monk sign and trade for Herro. Draft a big like Zach Edey or KEL'EL WARE and Hunter Sallis, ZYON Pullin, Keshad Johnson, or Antonio Reeves. Zach Edey is NBA ready, great touch on offense, can pass out the double, and when you need.. Heat need size and scoring.
