What’s the vision for the Wizards roster as it stands? Yves Missi at 26?

what is the vision for the Washington Wizards roster going forward as it stands right now we’re going to talk about that and yest Missy and Tyler Smith could they be options at number 26 we’re can talk about that next on locked on Wizards you are locked on Wizards your daily Washington Wizards podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day what’s good everybody it’s your boy terms apply so what is the vision for the Wizards roster as it stands looking towards the future obviously it’s subject to change after the draft and free agency even though we’re not going to be very active in free agency but as a roster stands who’s going to be who is definitely gone who is here now but maybe gone later and who’s a future piece and then we’re get into uh IES ores Missy uh Center out of Baylor and Tyler Smith from the G league and see could they be options um for um in the NBA draft this year so let’s get into it what is the vision for the Wizards roster going forward as it stands so I mean there’s a lot of questions obviously um I do see see this team getting younger this season obviously if you look at veterans that are kind of on in the gray area On The Fringe I’m looking at tus Jones looking at kma could he potentially get moved Landrew shamet and Jordan P where he’s still a young guy but is still considered a vet obviously coming over from a championship team so uh let’s get into the def chart and let’s look at who is gone who could be here for the time being and who is definitely a future peace so let’s get into it so let’s start with the category of who is definitely gone or who could be gone um so let’s get right into tyus Jones now tus Jones is he officially gone now I will say this now he’s looking for starter money he’s looking to definitely be a starter and could you know could he be a starter in DC yes now that will probably push Jordan P to the six-man role which he actually filled that role pretty well um this previous season when he was reverted back to the six-man role as opposed to being the star and two guard so I think it could work now why would the Wizards do that well the a big reasons why the Wizards would retain tus Jones is one you know he’s shown that he can be a point guard for rebuilding team and be that floor General to set guys up to succeed on the outside whether it’s Bel kabali which is you know whether it’s Denny AIA Kyle kma or Cory kissper you know he’s a guy who’s gonna look to get other people involved first you know be that floor General and I think he could definitely get a lot out of guys like Denny who’s finally broken out offensively you know he can definitely get um stuff out of bow and Cory kisper especially looking at you know other guys like Marvin Bley third and kyman if he’s still on the team so um he could definitely fulfill that role as being a floor general for a rebuilding team now what is his price tag that’s the big question and we’re definitely gonna find out I find out more about that going forward but you know Jordan P why would they revert him back to the six-man rooll easy because you’re trying to boost his value up to eventually move him now there was you know there were rumors within the organization that and signs pointing towards the front office really liking Jordan p and if you look at his age if you look at his skill set you know he fits his timeline you know he hasn’t his prime yet and he’s shown that he has Allstar potential so you know that’s why you looking at tyus Jones with them moving him you know or not moving him but retaining him that would have to revert Jordan P back to his six-man role because again we all know how a back court of tus Jones and Jordan pool plays out and is not is an undersized non-defensive back cour so I think that if you retain tus Jones you know you definitely have to revert Jordan pull back to six-man role if he’s the future they’re not going to do that if he if they’re trying to boost his value they may very very well do that so um so they can boost his value enough to trade him and I think that look you know for a contending team he he could definitely if shown if he could be a consistent threat offensively and show up other areas of the game I think that he could be a nice six man on the contending team so you know like I said I like Jordan P I can see him definitely being the future DC if not the immediate future but here’s the thing you know with his contract they very well could look to try to boost his trade value and move him also at some point whether it’s next year or trade down line you know or Beyond so we’ll see on that front but do I retain T Jones um I I definitely think that you try to play P at point guard now as P the point guard of the future you know opinions differ I think that if he shows certain Milestones certain uh if he makes certain advancements in this game that he very well could be the guy at point guard going for him but you know tyus Jones depends on his on his price tag I think you want to get younger at this point now um he again I think he can do the job but you definitely go younger so I think you look to go to Jordan pool or maybe go in the draft and get a prospect but I think you go younger at point guard now it’s not to say you don’t try to do a sign and trade I think that uh will da should try definitely try to see if he can arrange a sign and trade with another team maybe get an asset back for T Jones and not see him walk away for free but I think that the ship is sailed as far as T Jones and I and I get it you know um he he fulfilled his role as a floor General and you know I know he’s comfortable here his family’s comfortable here but the NBA is a business and I think that they definitely need to go younger and definitely see what Jordan P could do at point guard and maybe go get a young Prospect in the draft whether it’s an isah ker or maybe they take a chance on the nicoa tow pitch even though you know with the knee injury Maybe you know he can definitely be a long-term Prospect see how the injury goes and see if they can work with him but I think that you go younger at point guard so I think that Ty Jones is gone maybe you get a sign and trade but I think he is definitely gone another candidate do I think is definitely on his way out is land shamon now if you look at his contract man um it is non- guaranteed next year so I think the wiard just move on now I did enjoy L shampan here in DC he’s athletic he shoot three he’s a guy who’s got a little UPS on him man he can definitely Drive the lane and dunk some folk but I think that looking at two guard and maybe the wing on the second unit man I think it’s best Ser to bring you know to give those minutes to maybe Johnny Davis see what you got in him you know see if Patrick B junor at to three depending if you bringing another piece to play the four and second unit but I I definitely think it’s time to do a youth movement especially when it comes to land Shaman I think it’s time to move on you know like I said he played good basketball here in DC and I think that he should definitely get a chance to you know get a contract with a contending team and see if he can get the ring because he was a good player here and like I said if this was not a rebuilding team I would I would want a rooll guy like land shamp because he’s shown that he could be that microwave score Off the Bench he’s he’s got athleticism and he’s he’s a dog but I think right now with this being going into year or two of a rebuild right now is the time to you know start a youth movement overall in my opinion so I’m G say he’s gone now um looking at some other people um Jared Butler his contract is non- guaranteed you know he did get an NBA standard contract but it is not guaranteed next year so could they move on from him I think he’s definitely a safety Val if you don’t get a a guard for the second unit in the draft or free agenc you got a guy who’s already within your organization who’s shown he can play so he kind of in the gray area with Jared Butler I want to say he’s gone because his contract is not guaranteed but he very well could be here for the time being so he’s kind of within the categories have gone in here now for the time being I’m looking at the rosters so looking at the dep chart that to me um as far as pretty much on their way out those are the guys I see on their way out um so we’re going to get into a few guys for um here for the time being and we’re going to start with Kyle kman obviously he is definitely here for the time being at some point he’s going to get moved some point he’s gonna get moved man um whether it’s during the draft process 2024 draft whether it’s at the deadline or whether it’s next year or the year after next rather as far as the offseason but he’s gonna get moved at some point because if you look at his contract his his contract is Team friendly not only for the wizards but for prospective trade Partners so he is a double-edged ster as far as you know his contract being very friendly not only to us but for other teams who don’t necessarily want to break the bank to acquire a scoring Talent like Kyle kumman so I definitely think he is definitely here now but I definitely you know the earliest is definitely you know you could definitely see him being moved in a package to try to trade back into the lottery whether it’s 13 to Sacramento which I think is great fit 15 to Miami 10 to Utah nine of Memphis or even five at Detroit now Houston could they use a kman yes but they have a lot of forwards and I see them hesitant moving a lot of younger pieces man for Kyle kman in my opinion so I don’t you know Houston could be a fit but I think out of all the fits that is named I think that Sacramento is is a really good fit I think Memphis would be a really good fit for teams that are looking to win now as opposed to you know draft the developmental piece that’s going to take time to develop where if you’re the Wizards that’s perfect but for a team like Memphis at nine or sack at 13 you need that next piece is going to help you battle a really really hard Western Conference so um real quick uh one more play before we um get to the ad brick U Marvin Becky third is a guy who I see kind of in the gray area he’s here for the time being at his age I think he still fits the timeline but he has his question marks you know injury history um High you know not having a low motor now I say I’ll say this and I said it in the previous episode that if he proves to be healthy especially long term and if he and he’s proven to evolve and become better within Brian Keef’s system if you look at his age and you look at the fact that when he came to DC you know he show up the issues with rebounding interior defense interior scoring he shoot the mid-range and he shoot the three-point shot so he’s definitely a young asset that if he could prove that he’s healthy long term and if he could prove that he can continue to develop and evolve I think he could definitely should be a guy that they should consider to extend now obviously this is a proven season for Marvin Begley the third but if he is proven that he can be that nice young piece for this team I think you definitely talk to him about an extension so um I got some more guys to talk about who are here on the here now and then we’re going to look at the future pieces but before we do uh tonight’s episode is brought to you by game time so as you guys know um I go to games year round baseball season I’m going to the O’s games and camon yards Nas games and Nas Park I go to Mar Lings U Mar League games all the time football season commanders and James Madison University and in basketball obviously TV channels app part of the lockedown podcast Network your team every single day all right let’s get into some more people that I see here kind of being here just for the time being uh we’re gonna look at Jordan paol now Jordan paol again he one of those guys where’s a double-edged sword uh you very well can see him being a future piece especially if he finds other way to kind of evolve his game you know we know Jordan p is that Score first scoring minded guard right and he does it well in my opinion he does it at a level where I think he could be an All-Star one day now inefficiency at times does hit his game you know um shot attempts you know inefficiency again hits him very often um he’s got to find other ways to get other people about it now I will say this um in the second half of the Season we all know what kind of up and down roller coaster season he had obviously the first half he struggled um he had signs of immaturity but you know it totally it was totally different in the second half you know when he reverted back to six-man Road he not only showed how mature he really is and how he can really deal with the criticisms of not only the Wizards fan base but every major sports network in the country if not the world gave him smoke so he showed that he could be a man and take criticism keep working on his game and keep evolving um but when he reverted to six-man rle he performed and when he started when tus Jones went down with his back injury he showed that he be he could be that starting point guard now obviously he has to show consistency he has to show efficiency when his with his offensive game you know he’s definitely got to get better at defense and he has to find ways to get you know utilize his vision because he does have passing Vision but and is not too shabby but he’s got to find other ways to cons on a consistent basis be that contributor because that’s the thing about being a starting point guard AKA being that NBA back which is you have to be that guy on a consistent basis and you can’t take nice off because that is a defining factor between the average and the allstar so that’s what I challenge Jordan P so he kind of in the gray era if you look at his contract three years left so you know his contract will be running out towards the point where the Wizards young guys and organization is G be looking to ramp up towards contention so you could you could very well see him as a Here and Now candidate now he he could definitely step his game up and be a long-term piece but a lot of that has to do with him taking that step so right now I’m G say he’s here now subject to be moved at some point now it’s not to say he not a longterm piece because I would love to see him as a longterm piece because like I said he’s impressed me not only with his with his play in the second half of the season but the fact that he took criticism and kept working he didn’t he didn’t let that drag him down you know and I said that I think this ISS a lot about a young player when they do that uh so looking at who’s here now a couple more people to look at Denny AIA um I definitely think that Denny AIA and and kiss but both we’re going kind of match them together you know looking at Denny you know signing extension and yes um his contract right around the time if you look at the timeline of the rebuild three years you know he’s going into an extension year this season so um he fits the timeline and obviously look you don’t let a guy like Den Avia who shown that he could be that beast on the defensive side but now has broken out offensively and not a weapon offensively you don’t let a guy at that age walk away now if they get a deal that’s too good to pass up maybe you entertain that maybe especially for draft picks if you’re looking at two maybe three first rounders then you probably entertain that deal but if if you’re not getting an Immaculate deal you don’t move Den AIA in my opinion you just don’t um you know so looking at Denny like I said here now for the time being but his contract his age his skill set off is a timeline and he’s definitely a young talent that has put the NBA on notice because there’s teams that are they want to acquire him okay see look that says a lot when Oklahoma City which is a team who is a playoff team who’s challenging for that Crown in the Western Conference if they’re looking at Denny to say something so if you find a deal that’s too good to pass up you make that deal but look the first notion is to keep Denny because he’s a young player who it hasn’t hit his prime yet and he has shown that not only is he a dog on the defensive side he’s shown that you know he very well could be an offensive weapon that could down the line be a first or second option you know in my opinion in DC man so didn’t you hold on to Cor kind of the same in that gray area where you know I I I I’ve advocated that they should probably extend Cory kber everybody needs a shooter but you know if he if you if if if he’s at one piece that you throw into a deal then maybe you make that move because he is going into contract year but I’m get kind of the same with Denny man you know Cory kisper you need an High basketball IQ shooter a guy who shown that he can you know drive to the basket you know a guy you know he’s shown that he he can provide elements the game now defensively you definitely want to see him put a lot more effort towards defense even though he has taken steps he has improved defensively so if you you know if he’s part of a deal that is too good to pass up you make that move but you know look I think he’s a good part of the future so I put him in the category here now but I definitely think that he could slide into a future piece man and really both him and Denny are future pieces like I said if the I put him in the here now category but if the deal is too good to pass up yes you make that move but other than that they’re future pieces in my opinion so looking at the r um the rest of the roster because U we still have talk about Blau we’re going to talk about trist vich Patrick Balwin Jr um and I think that’s about it we can cover rashan Holmes at the end even though it really is dependent on his player option so final category before we move on everybody who is part of the future and now it’s easy to say below but I’m hold off bow um I’ve already mentioned Denny and Corey kissper yes they’re in kind of in the gray area where you know um looking at their contract situations Denny’s got a very friendly contract and Cory kiser’s going to an expiring contract get a contract year um if it deals too good a pass up you make that move but in my mind they’re future pieces so is B kabali you know if you look at some of the work you know there’s a lot of videos on social media with him putting in that work man and a lot of these guys are put in work you see videos with Denny you see videos with Cory kissper I mean these guys are putting in work they’re trying to improve they know they know what time it is because look this is a young team that’s going to years a rebuild but they have to perform so you know because look they are evaluating right now Bel Kali is the Focus right now for the front office because the front office didn’t draft Denny they didn’t draft Cory kiss but they didn’t draft Johnny Davis so even though they gave Denny the extension I definitely think the front office views him as a long-term paace but look at that bow man um kind of like Denny the defense is there you know the tangibles there are there you know it’s just adding the offensive tools to his game and I think that with us being in the rebuild with us revamping our scouting Department with us having coaches like Brian Keef and davean who are development minded coaches they’re going to get him there so be patient of B because the athleticism is to the roof the dog mentality is in him give them time to cook it’s like any good dish man let them especially in the crockpot let me tell you you know give them time to cook I’m telling you B is definitely a future star in my opinion just like in my opinion Denny um I think both of them are future stars in my opinion so you definitely definitely keep them as future pieces now look at a few other names on the list uh trist V fit um he is definitely a future piece but with him being a second round pick with him having a two-year contract kind of like Marvin Bagley will recover where this is kind of a mush Pro is like a proof of year I think it’s the same thing with Tristan vich where this is a proof of year because this is year two of a two-year contract so if they want if they indeed want to extend him he’s got to show some kind of progression and it’s a very small sample size that’s why I think that him getting a full season he he’s gonna have to pick it up relatively quick I think he will man he came into the situation in DC already polished offensively now is there areas where he needs to improve absolutely especially mid-range uh back to the basket um scoring in the paint stuff like that not only being a l threat and a three-point shooter you definitely want to see him play with his back to his basket have post moves definitely develop a mid-range shot but I think that he’s definitely part of the future I think that one full with a full season with consistent minutes I think that he very well could be you know we’ll see if a um Center starter of the future but for right now I definitely think he is Center of depth for the future for the Washington Wizards all right so one more name I’m gonna cover real quick Patrick Balwin Jr now I think kind of like uh Marvin Begley I third and Tristan vich this is a pro of year and he’s got to show that he can contribute outside of shooting threes Pat Patrick bwin Jr AKA PBJ man you know he’s a shooter he’s a scorer you know and he’s shown that he can go there and get rebounds his rebounding numbers went up but you definitely want to see a more allaround game for him this season so you you know this is the pro of year for him because look the Wizards could potentially bring in three to four players in this draft you know especially if they trade back in and retain number 26 and number 51 in the second round they very well they very well could bring in four players so you’re going to see a mass a major overhaul this roster you’re gonna see a youth movement so don’t uh you guys definitely comment below let me know what you thinking you know what players are definitely out of the DC what players do you see kind of being here now maybe gone later and what are the future pieces in DC you guys comment below let me know what you’re thinking all right so we’re going to get into uh evest or yest Missy the center out of Baylor but before we do tonight’s episode is brought to you by prize pick so what is prize picks well easy if you’re wondering picks all right everybody we’re gonna We are looking at more prospects at number 26 and there’s a couple of guys that I think that definitely could be uh some prospects to look at at number 26 so we are going to start with uh yees Missy or Eves Missy depending on how you pronounce um and he is a very intriguing Center out of Baylor U looking at his sang 7 Foot foot6 Wings span at 235 pounds um so he’s got the size man he’s got the weight um looking at the stat line he averaged 10.7 points a game 5.6 rebounds 0.4 assists 1.5 blocks and 0.6 steals per game now he did shoot 61.4% from the field but he shot 0.0% from three so kind of tells where he’s at he he’s Guy where he’s not going to stretch the floor very much I he shot 61.6% from foul for the foul line aka the charity strike so that is definitely an area that he needs to show up um and if he wants to translate his game to the NBA so what are some strengths some pros that I like about him well easy easy out the gate right impressive frame seven-footer with a seven6 wingspan so he kind of if there’s a comp for him is Clint Cella where not only his size but his skill set you know Clint capella is definitely a guy where you know he’s not going to stretch the floor very often I mean if at all he’s more of a defensive mind of Center where um he’s in the paint you know rebounding Rim protection but he’s not going to floor too much um offensively and he very well could be um caught up in mismatches defensively um but look he is actually mobile for his size and very versatile for his size and he does have um Strong finish uh finishing skills around the realm so he definitely can finish a lot of his points are definitely going to be in the paint because like I said he’s not a guy who’s gonna stretch the floor he guy definitely GNA a lot of his points rebounds in his defense all going to be within the paint but he definitely can finish around the rim um something else I really like again you know kind of a I’m an obvious here he has the potential to be an excellent defensive anchor and a brim protector so I get it um the the mode of the modern day big is a senator who can stretch floor and you have that in his draft you know Don kingan is is learning to do that you know he’s shown progress within the draft combine and the draft process of shooting three-point shots Zac Ed KW are guys that are offensive mind and centers who can Rim protect but their offensive game is a lot more flourish and they can stretch the floor and have more capability um but if you look at a guy like Missy man um he’s very limited offensively there not to say he can add that if you know if that indeed what the organization or what he wants to do personally to kind of you know boost himself as a player but um not every not every Center is gonna be that modern day mold right so um if we miss out on CLA W or Zack Edy and definitely on Donovan Clingan you know if he’s available 26 you make that move in my opinion because he’s a guy where he Canna be that rim protector now does he is he the of the future we don’t know that right now with Tristan vich with with him you know in year two of his two-year contract and approv a year maybe you add more depth to Center to kind of for competition to push him we’ll see but he’s the guy right now that I’m not looking at where he could be as a future starter maybe it put in the work now because he got he’s got the intangibles Clint capella is a starter in Atlanta right so he very well could be a starter you know but I think that um there’s ways I think there’s a little ways to go before we hit that but he very what could be just right not right now so um what do I not like about him I mean we kind of already covered it um his Pro his cons are he’s very limited offensively and range outside of paint very very limited um poor free throw shirter he’s got to work on free throws because you know why you don’t have hack Shack which I hate using hacker Shack because I’m a big Shack fan um but you know gone or the days where you can just hack the center and send them to the free throw line um you you can but you know it’s just it’s not is not hack Shack anymore but you know he definitely has to work on you know at you know the charity strike he’s got to get better at free throws um and you know a couple things that you know other things I don’t like about him is uh passing Billy he lacks a passing Billy and I mean he’s look he’s mostly a dunker I mean you know was whether it’s a law threat or you know scoring within the paint man um he’s looking to dunk first you know he can finish but most of the time he’s looking the dunk so very limited offensively and he struggles with defending switches which you see that with a lot of your centers your your um you know Andre Drummond is another guy who struggles with you know uh defensive switches so it’s very common with seven-footer especially seven foot uh centers who aren’t as Swift on their feet as other guys you know if you look at KW he’s very Swift on his feet Zack 80 is very Swift on the feet say the same thing about Don kinging to a certain degree um but I I I do like uh Eves Missy is just I think he’s going to take a little a little development a little bit of work man but I think that at 26 man like said if we miss out on every other Prospect at 26 I think you make that move because I think we definitely come out of this draft with a center now like I said if we miss out CLW I will be disappointed Um Zack Edy again Donan kingan I think Donan kingan you know there’s a lot of traction with him going to you know could be an option Atlanta but you know could be an option in Houston but Memphis is intrigued and I think you know so um so Atlanta Memphis and and uh my God uh Houston I think are really good Landing places for Don cling so you know we very well I mean because we brought him in or we’re bringing him in for a workout so he is an option for the Wizards and I’m big on donin cling I definitely think that at 73 280 pounds you make that move man but um you know we’ll see a lot of options at Center but like I said if we miss out on other options and I I hate to call any player a plan B but it is what it is right um I think Eves Missy man or yest Missy I think he’s a guy that again if you miss out on other Prospect in the draft as Center you make that move because he is a rim protector you know to me he is the modern Clint capella I hate to say modern because Clint capella is still playing Lord hammers but you guys kind of see where I’m going at is that he’s a guy who can be that rim protector he can be that anchor defensively yes very limited offensively and he has other areas he needs to show up but I think he definitely should be an option at 26 if we indeed strike out with other prospects so um I was going to cover Tyler Smith but we’re going to cover him on Sunday night because tomorrow night we’re going to do a mailbag so I’m going to put out um on Twitter and YouTube um the the official announcement tomorrow we’re going to do a live mailbag episode so shoot me your best questions on YouTube and Twitter AKA X and we’re gonna do a 1. I think the only plan right now is to bring in rookies and see who is good enough to be part of the roster in three years. They cannot possibly be considering the current roster as the start of anything.

  2. I believe the decision to start a new rebuild, they obviously thought to do it the right way by building a team based on a defense foundation… My questions are
1). How Tyus Jones and Jordan Poole fits to a defensive team?
2). How they're gonna make sure the last season won't repeat itself when Kuzma is playing?

  3. I say this with no disrespect but some of the takes on how to build teams that I see coming from Wizards fans tells me all I need to know on why this franchise hasn't been good for decades.

The fact that you you would trade Poole and Deni for a good deal is crazy to me.
Help me understand. What is a good deal? Picks?

The thing about picks is you're never going to be sure that the players you get for those picks will turn out to be as good as the players you traded for them.

A great story in the NBA world right now is did the Bucks hand the Celtics their next title by trading away Jrue Holiday. In reality the Bucks didn't need Dame they just needed another 20ppg shooter and should've kept Jrue.

Poole and Deni are solid players who are young and still developing but they have the makings of being great players who can help the Wizards go farther.

Just going by what the front office has said, they like their core and want to move forward with them and specifically named Poole as apart of the team going forward.

I guess you gotta have something to talk about but sometimes your takes are just head scratching .

  4. If we trade Kuz to the Kings, hope we will get 4 expiring contracts with the 13 pick (Barnes and Huerter are overpaid and won't help much). In that case we will probably see more trades, or cuts.

  5. Poole is not working in his game during the off season he got a ring and the bag too early he should be traded as well we need to cut ties with poole seriously he the odd man out frfr

  6. The fact he tried to pay ice spice 500k to smash was a red flag we should trade him when his value get to the max be honest

  7. We gave Jordan Poole the keys to the lambo and he lost them 😂😂😂😂😂 he. Is not it at all the only peice he gonna be is a trade piecethen we can finally be at Peace ✌️

  8. I cannot believe the Wizards are about to have a better future than the absurdly stupid organization that is the Atlanta Hawks. Sarr is the top pick with the most upside in the top five. Instead, rumor has it that the Hawks might draft Mr. Led-feet himself in Clingan who will get played off the court on a consistent basis.
