Warriors pitch for a Trade, DJM for John

https://www.mercurynews.com/2024/06/14/kurtenbach-mailbag-the-warriors-best-case-scenario-off-season-dejounte-murray-and-a-bunch-of-draft-picks/

Trade for Dejounte Murray from Atlanta (Jonathan Kuminga, a couple of first-round pick swaps, and Chris Paul — who agrees to extend his June 28 release date — as a make-weight go to the Hawks). This will have to happen after the draft

This Frees up TONS of cap space, gives us a defender next to Trae AND a couple of first-round pick swaps. His defensive rating was 115.7 vs DJM 119.4 but this is playing with a shell of Klay Thompson AND Steph Curry and no Center.

Kuminga is 6'7" but his 3 pt shot isn't like Murray 36% vs Kuminga @ 32% but 6'7" to 6"4 in is a major upgrade. We can then use the cap space for Delon Wright, and another trade for Alex Caruso.

I think it’s good value and I like JK. Only issue is he’s redundant to Jalen Johnson and could create a spacing issue if our new center can’t shoot

  2. I don’t think the Warriors do this at all but sign me up!

Will bringing C3P lift our curse is the bigger question?

Would work but Warriors giving up JK is a tough idea

    … something feels off here.

1st, part of CP3’s deal will need to be guarantee. Non-guaranteed deals only count for the guaranteed portion of which we’d have to eat. Honestly, I wouldn’t hate just carrying him if we could figure out how.

2nd, why does the deal have to wait until after the draft? We have the #1 pick while they don’t have the 52nd. Maybe we’re holding off to see if someone else will eat CP3?

I don’t like this at all. Kuminga is too limited on offense right now and overlaps too much with other players.

2 decades later, Chris Paul is finally a Hawk.
