Thunder 54-43 offensively this one has been a struggle for Oklahoma City bat uh in terms of creating Second Chances Oklahoma City has done that so not only are shot attempts almost even here but Oklahoma City has gotten to the free throw line more than three times as many times as their opponent and usually when you have that part of the math problem work out in your favor it’s a really good sign but tonight uh Dallas is shooting well from the perimeter in this game and Oklahoma City has not shot well uh from the perimeter or the field at large and that’s why Dallas despite the fact that Oklahoma City has created more opportunity than the Mavericks have are still down by 11 points really feels like they should be down more but I think you laid out the the reason why they are still in this game so you know if you’re the Mavericks you could look at it like this uh Kyrie only had four points Luca had 12 but it took him 13 shots to get here and we’re up 11 the Thunder are like man it feels like we should be down 20 you know it maybe more not to not to get too dramatic but really does feel that way the way the offense was a slog Dallas I thought was a better team on defense as well so um I like you get the feeling that the first five minutes out of halftime are going to be pretty critical in this one if Dallas can blue in that lead up I think it would be really really difficult from a mental standpoint to come back but if OKC can hit a few of these open shots they got you know in the first half actually knock them down then they can get this thing back to within manageable are they getting good shots and are they getting shots from the players that they want to have those looks because Isaiah Joe played seven minutes without a shot attempt uh B basically the same exact thing for K Wallace basically the same exact line for Jay will um at least from from three-point range he did have one shot that was blocked by Daniel Gafford whereas you’re seeing Josh giddy go two of seven in eight minutes of action lugan Dort one of eight 0 of five from three-point range are they getting the shots from the guys that you feel like you want to have those in this going forward in the second half I think the reason you’re asking me is uh and I think you agree with me is that no probably probably not but the same token you know PJ Washington is a three of his seven it’s been role players for Dallas too that have hit some threes as well Derek Jones has has hit some uh Tim Hardaway Dante aom was able to be effective in the series for the very first time Josh Green so no you would probably like players different guys to get the shots that Lou D was getting that Josh giddy was getting but that’s that’s sort of the way that Dallas’s defense has funneled their offense so the same time these guys are NBA players you have to have to knock down a wide open shot the Thunder shot 35% part of that was because their inability to knock down three-point shots but part of it was because they had nine of their shots blocked by Dallas in the first half that’s an immense number and those guys are playing really well Daniel Gafford with a couple of block shots Derrick Lively with four block shots in 13 minutes those guys have also gotten some activity around the rim more so than they have in previous games you know that’s something that can concerned me going into this game there’s a lot of space for Dallas to operate in the paint not necessarily at the restricted area but kind of in between 20 and 5 fet and because Luca donic is not hitting his floaters it doesn’t look as pronounced for Dallas but if Kyrie Irving gets free PJ Washington gets free kind of in that neighborhood that’s going to start to be a sore spot for them moving forward what did you think about the thunder defensively in the first half played well enough uh you know didn’t let Dallas get more than they they could have uh Dallas shooting 43% from the three-point line 48% and same thing we talked about with the Thunder they’re funneling the shots I think to the players you want to take them I think Luca has settled uh some for s for his as well so you could probably just say the Thunder could have played with more physicality could have played with more energy in in general to start the game uh they have had some fast break opportunities they have have been able to get out and run just unfortunately haven’t been able to turn that into off offense I think a couple of those opportunities were a few of the blocks that you were you were referencing there so um this this team we know can turn defense into offense and that that could that can be an easy source of Bas or of of points as well points in the paint 18 to6 in favor of Dallas and that’s still considering that they took 10 more three-point shots than Oklahoma City did in the first half so they’ve been able to enjoy kind of a double dose of success there and also uh wanted to bring your uh uh get your thoughts on this rotational change this is the first action we’ve seen in this series from kenrich Williams and kenrich got out there for 5 minutes it was in the second quarter he ended up not scoring but he had two rebounds and an assist and is the only player who is a positive in the plus minus on his team what you think about seeing kenrich out there and do you understand the decision I’ve been calling for it all series uh really does feel like a uh it does feel like a good kenrich series but what was the lineup around him I know Dort giddy were on the floor yeah it was kind strange offensive line wasn’t it I and this is I I guess question the coaching a little bit but the rotation of yeah with those three guys on the same floor who really aren’t great offensive threats I didn’t I didn’t love that kenrich um you know it’s it’s been a while so I expected some amount of rust I thought he was was able to mck things up a little bit in his five-minute run but the I I didn’t think the surrounding players were exactly what what he needed to to succeed all right coming up next as Matt said a critical start to the third quarter is upcoming what does he think will be important in those opening of those was nice led to a a break opportunity for Dallas Kyrie Irving had not scored until the very late stages of the first half he got a couple of baskets to go in one was a very long two there toward the end of the second quarter he’s got four points and seven assists and PJ Washington continues his fine offensive play he’s got 11 points three of those three-pointers and then a dunk that was popped back up through the bottom of the net and every Reserve that has gotten in the game for Dallas has made at least a shot three of those four have made at least one three-point shot now we know that Thunder three-point barrage is lurking somewhere around the corner but throwing that out of there what are the controllables for Oklahoma City that they can manage here in the second half to bring themselves back on top wish it was his confidence as you watching the watching them go one of 11 uh in the first half was was difficult yeah you could you could say that for sure um the offense felt like it was a total slog um I I think jdub needs to step up a little bit Shay um I I think is is trying has made some tough shots but I think so much of his offense is predicated on on getting into the paint and the paint’s plugged up and there’s a trade-off and whichever way you play um on defense that means that there’s going to be spots open on the floor uh I think when uh you know when when SGA out at the start of the fourth quarter will be a big stretch as well for Jay dub he needs to step up in the series uh just in general you know the so much of this game is what I’m talking about beyond the three-point line is 43% versus 9% so I know you’re looking for controllables I’m going to put shot making under controllables you have to make your wide open shots and yeah for Oklahoma City Jay dub a two of seven shooting now he does have four rebounds three assists which is a team high and three steals which is a game high in fact he has has more steals than the entire Maverick’s team has and that’s something Oklahoma City did really well in the first half only four turnovers to seven for Dallas I think it’s 8 to five in terms of Total Team turnovers for Oklahoma City so uh Matt we talk about this all the time the early stages of the third quarter are really critical time for Dallas what do you think they’re talking about right now headed in to these first few minutes need to continue to play defense the way that they have because they have hounded hounded hounded the Thunder around uh really a lot of the same things that they’ve done in the last few games that have made them successful is what they’ve done tonight uh continued I think to get other people involved offensively and then I think you feel like it’s just a matter of time till one of K Kyrie field goal shooting one of 11 on threes only seven assists versus five turnovers 36% Thunder shooting inside that includes 04 in transition and the Thunder uh Trail at the break 5443 against the Mavericks Jay the only double figure Point man for Oklahoma City with a dozen he’s five of nine shooting otherwise it’s been a big struggle for Oklahoma City on the offensive end as I mentioned their Mavs match their largest lead of game four 5743 a minute into the third Dort High post right to hen hand checked and crowded by Gafford on the dribble weave to SJ as Dort is spilled off the ball ear iring called for a foul that’ll be his third it’ll be side out Oklahoma City Thunder offense during the course of the regular season third best in the NBA including averaging 120 points a game during the regular campaign scoring generally will drop a bit come playoff time but Thunder really struggling tostain offense in Dallas against the Mavs in games three and four of this series Shay off the inbound straightway to Joe Isaiah weaves into traffic up top to hren open snaps off an angle right three-pointer the short rebound Joe bobbles to the corner comes away with it feed Shay off the pump fake down the lane dashing right to the rim Scoops and blows the layup so the Thunder struggles continue on the offensive end donic has the Miss plowing back bumped and fouled by Jaylen Williams as he catch and shoot rainbow three is up that’s way off Gafford clears and shovels to donic so the struggles continue for the Thunder offense Luca navigating right whips it out front Washington left corner Jones dereck’s three ball is off Dort tips a rebound to SJ the Thunder one to run Shay to the middle down the lane on Irving slices to the Baseline is fouled hard by Irving going up Kyrie picks up his fourth and gildas Alexander goes to the free throw line two minutes into the third quarter Thunder built a 10-point lead in the third quarter of game three here but they just have not generated any traction offensively at all at any point in game four thus far shade of the strike two of two tonight he has a dozen points with three rebounds no assists as yet Thunder limited to seven assists thus far on the night D Alexander’s first free throw is good that’s the first thunder point of the third quarter it comes two minutes in SGA and the Thunder will continue battling you know that they led the league with 17 recoveries from double digit deficits and wins during the regular season till as Alexander second looks good in is now the Thunder need to string together stops trailing by a dozen Kyrie Irving stays in with four fouls played off on by Jaylen Williams straight away to Gafford home on him Daniel blasting right fouled by HR on a drive by again this is the issue I have is when this occurs at the other end of the floor where there’s contact on a drive there’s no whistle against the Mavericks side out Mavs second team foul on the Thunder as hren incurs his second and they’re giving Gafford continuation and free throws wow okay Gafford from the line in this game is one of two he has seven points Mavs by a dozen continuing to keep the Thunder at arms length in game four the first foul shot is on the way in and out no good his struggles at the line continue hitting 55% in this series as Mark dnal gets the Thunders attention before they get the ball back in one former fashion as to what he wants run on the offensive end Gafford deliberate right foot marginally in front of the left the big man from the University of Arkansas snaps off the second and gets that 13-point Dallas Edge 5845 Jaylen Williams will activate the attack picked up crossing the timeline by Washington sends it wide right to Shay crossing over away from Jones to the Baseline elevates
