[Pincus] Predicts CP3 finally signing with the Lakers during free agency

“With that in mind, along with the Warriors ducking as much luxury tax as possible, Chris Paul isn't going to get his non-guaranteed $30 million from Golden State.
Once he clears waivers, put Paul, finally, on the Lakers at a $3.3 million minimum contract.
The 39-year-old can come off the bench or even start, though the Lakers will need to limit his minutes, given he's just a few months younger than the oldest player in the league (James, 40 in December).
While L.A. needs to infuse the roster with youth, the team also needs smart, veteran players. Paul was almost a Laker in 2011, but the deal was scuttled by David Stern, the late NBA commissioner who was operating as the owner of the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans) before it was sold to the Benson family.
Paul never got to play with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, but now he gets the chance to don the purple and gold alongside James.”

A lot of interesting predictions from Pincus once free agency starts at the end of the month. Good read.

I honestly don’t want this. I can’t stomach another player being injured during the season.

Maybe he’s washed, injury prone and all that. But AD would absolutely feast with his charmin soft touch passes at the elbow

  4. Rondo 2020 role, if he stays healthy. I’m good with that

  5. Totally fine as a vet min option. Particularly if D’Lo and/or Gabe are traded/leave.

  6. I see people complaining, but for a minimum it’s a good deal. He’s elite in passing still, show me better minimum players to sign lol. Chris Paul sometimes showing up is miles better than a 14th or 15th man.

he’s been saying this for months now at this point

Man his iq would do wonders for us imagine we had him on the bench when we were blowing a 20 point lead in the playoffs instead of Bald man in the huddle saying “salute” and “contest without fouling” rather than a real gameplan to hold the lead. Get him on that minimum he’s a great addition for a rookie coach

  9. if dlo walks we wont have the money to replace him without a trade so if that doesnt happen then i could see a healthy vincent and cp3 combining to give the lakers a solid 30-35 minutes at pg. even if hes washed by his standards, as a 12-15 minute guy, hes still a very good playmaker and shooter

Low risk for a vet min.

Any vet min signing outside of those Malik Monk types will be your 10th man on the bench anyways.

I think last season our vet mins were reddish, wood, and Hayes plus dinwiddie who signed off waivers.

I’d probably take 40yo Chris Paul over all of them at the vet rate. Injury prone and probably lost another step but you know what you can expect, especially on offense without lebron.

As long as the lakers aren’t asking him to start and play 25-30 minutes, hopefully he can last a season and deliver in the playoffs.

Also has to be a big boost for the young guards like jhs, christie and even Vincent and Reaves.

Sure for vet and off the bench. Great for ad. Like rondo

lmao jj coaching cp3 on the lakers, what a timeline we are in…

  13. IThe-HecklerI

13 years younger me rejoices. Current me yawns.

Welcome to LA’s most luxurious retirement home.. the Lakers

  15. He would be a solid player coming off the bench but this still isn’t a championship team without Donovan Mitchell or Mikal Bridges.

  16. Hot_Mathematician357

Just what the Lakers need. Another old guy 🤦🏻‍♂️

  17. TheInconspicuousBIG

Y’all must not be keeping a sharp eye these last 5-7 years if you think CP3 helping us at all. Never rated for the rockets, warriors, or suns when he was on those teams. All media hype

  18. myelrecsy

Paul George on the thumbnail and not Chris Paul. Chris Paul George, lmao!

  19. TorontoRaptors34

Im surprised to see so many positive Chris Paul comments on a Lakers sub he generally a hated figure in the game.

  20. Pikminious_Thrious

Assuming we lose one or both of Gabe / DLO, absolutely need a PG even if its only for a few minutes

  21. Hungry-Space-1829

LA needs another guy not named LeBron who can come in for brief stretches and take control of the offense/pace. Would be a solid move in very limited minutes

  22. Life_Ad_9518

he’s been a perpetual injury the last 10 years. especially in the playoffs

  23. Miserable-Lawyer-233

The Lakers need more experience and CP3 would be a useful addition in terms of guard IQ and guard knowledge of opponents plays (the Lakers current starting guards are often lost defensively). But the Lakers can’t rely on CP3, of course. He should be depth behind the star PG they pick up in a trade.

  24. LanaSwiftFan

hard pass. hes old, brittle, and i fucken hate him

  25. Potentially Rondo coaching potentially CP3. Who would have thought?

  26. Klaxosaur

Chris Paul coming over for a Rondo role would be too poetic lol.

  27. GoPhotoshopYourself

Would be poetic if he finally gets to play for the Lakers and immediately wins his first ring with LeBron after not being allowed to with Kobe
