  1. I had the opportunity to interview West and Magic on Maui years ago (roughly a month or so before Magic returned from retirement). I had to compliment West for the Dan Ford trade to Cleveland that eventually turned into the number one overall pick that became James Worthy. He outdid himself years later with two moves in one week that netted Kobe and Shaq and eventually hired Phil, who he reportedly didn't really like, but realized was the one coach to get Kobe and Shaw to work together and nab a title. After the interview, West talked to me for a few more minutes about the prospect of Magic returning. I expressed doubts that the current isolation-minded players would fit with Magic's pass-first mentality. He actually agreed.

  2. He was not Kobe Bryamt. He wasn't even the best on the team. That goes to Elgin Baylor who unfortunately played during a time black players didn't get that kinda love to be made a logo. But we was still an excellent player amd without him we'd probably still be at 5 rings. Great GM and team builder. Rest Easy Champ 💜💛

  3. Very sad day!! Mr Clutch my first favorite player back in 1969-70 when the Lakers lost to the Knicks in the finals. He was an amazing player and an even better executive. RIP 🪦

  4. The people using his death as a gotcha moment to crap on the Lakers are the lowest form of scum imaginable. The Laker hate and piling on lately has gotten so overboard.

  5. As a Lakers fan since 1986, it is very conflicting and complex when it comes to Jerry West. Yes, he was responsible for so many good moves that helped build the Laker brand and turn them into champs such as signing James Worthy, Shaq in 1996, drafting Kobe with the pick from the Vlade trade to Charlotte, trading for Horry, trading for Glenn Rice, drafting Derek Fisher, etc…Just my opinion but I think after Dr. Buss passed away and his son made all those terrible decisions, Jerry West was not there to support Jeanie when she needed him the most. I do NOT think its coincidence that Jeanie singed off on taking Jerry West's seat that had been preserved for him all those years. He bashed the Lakers in order to recruit Kawhi and Paul George so it's not surprising to hear how distant the Lakers Org. had been with him for all those years. Nevertheless, Rest In Peace, Jerry West. Thanks you for all you've done for the Purple and Gold. Despite it all, you will ALWAYS be a Laker.

  6. My respect for a legend to bring us to much joy with the lakers team in contrary with this cheap management to gives lousy and cheap players

  7. Alot of people didnt see it st the time but jerry west saw a legend in the making from kobe bryant. And he done everything in his power to get that kid eith the lakers. Hes one of the greatest minds in basketball.

  8. When asked about the top five most important Lakers of all time, Jeanie Buss listed Kareem, Kobe, Magic, LeBron and Phil Jackson and left out Jerry West. Phil was probably the best coach in Lakers history but LeBron does NOT belong.

  9. I feel really sad! But all I have to say about Jerry West is that this gentleman was nothing but class personified. God bless him and his family. My condolences to all!

  10. The Lakers organization is truly embarrassing for this. One of our greatest ever as a player and person. The lack of respect shown compared to the passing of Kobe is just sad.
