Exploring Thunder Trades SW Division + Hartenstein?
welcome to down to dunk I’m your host Andrew SCH for part of the athletic podcast network with me as always on Wednesdays is my good friend Alex Spears Alex what’s up hello Hello Alex uh NBA finals are going on still the Celtics have been really really good um but there’s some some news about porzingis yesterday that is like just terrifying news if you’re a Celtics fan um don’t don’t quite know what’s GNA happen with him but it it does not look good what what do you know about that injury do you have do you have any insights on that injury no beyond what I read on Twitter which the most interesting thing I read on Twitter was from some you know physio guy who said that he understands why it’s day to-day because he thinks that they could probably just tape him up it doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee he’ll play but that they potentially either tape him up or brace him in some way that could hopefully limit uh an aggravation of it and so it sounds like it’s doesn’t have to be season ending which is because because the way they worded it I mean there were so many words in that like original tweet was like oh this this must be season ending there’s so many body parts named in this but I think there’s a reason why they didn’t just come out say he’s out for the rest of the playoffs so I I I do think there’s a chance he’s going to play and and maybe it’s a more limited role than even what we’ve already seen but I’m I’m hopeful that he plays because man that is just brutal to be out the entire playoffs play two games and then get out again so yeah it’s scary J J King thinks he’s gonna play so for what for what that’s worth so we will see that is a big big deal um yes yesterday s Vini and Bryce Simon did a pod where they did a mock draft and in that mock draft s Vini took bub Carrington number 12 for the Thunder interesting was quite interesting have you are are you a bub guy I’m a big time bubman really yes let’s he’s not this high in like I don’t think anybody has him this High yeah I did I say it I said it somewhere maybe on Monday I said it that I would take him at 12 um he is such an interesting Prospect and I don’t understand why he’s so low one he’s like one of the younger guys in this draft I think he’s still 18 years old he’s 6’5 um plays at pit he’s like a he’s a big point guard basically he’s like this 65 point guard that is maybe the best pullup shooter in the draft he didn’t have great percentages from three but you can tell just by watching him shoot like this this guy can shoot um great passer definitely like a pass first kind of guy but has like great dribble capabilities uh and like fits the thunder in a lot of ways and apparently is like a really good character guy too so there’s just a lot to like about him and you just wonder you know as we kind of watch the playoffs I just felt like more and more they needed some kind of Creator Off the Bench you know a guy that get his own shot a guy that can get shots for others like Isa Joe and Wiggins and those guys are good I’m not this is not a slight at them but like no one was creating Off the Bench and so to to bring a guy like that in and he he obviously is still gonna need to develop he’s only 18 uh but I think you could play him while developing him and then I mean that to me as much as like getting another big or a big Wing you know is part of what the Thunder needs to do I think that could be like a real possibility at 12 and one that makes a lot of sense to me yeah I mean one of the things you hear from draft people is especially with younger players like don’t focus on the percentage as much as the attempts and his three-point attempts per 100 possessions is 11 which is really good yeah really really good um he loves to shoot transition three like he loves to pull up just on the spot in transition and shoot which is pretty cool and then I’m looking at his uh his combine like the the the physical comparisons his closest comp 96% similarity and he guesses Andrew oh gosh I don’t know Bruce Brown like almost exactly ah wouldn’t that be cool yeah so I mean he he’s not like the biggest guy in the world but obviously he has some size this is not Jared McCain you know like he has a plus4 wingspan he’s 68 wingspan 63 and 3/4 height um so yeah that that wouldn’t be a that wouldn’t be a shocking one he he fits some of the profile of of the type of guy you would want for the Thunders so yeah yeah he do you think Vini was saying that based on some Intel don’t have think he just putting some some pieces together I don’t know I really don’t know I think that he just makes a lot of sense for the Thunder with size you know good his nickname’s bub which is awesome obviously but the fact that his actual name is also cool Carlton Carrington is like a great name it’s all good uh yeah I I would be very on board with them taking him at 12 I think he makes a ton of sense because like you compare him like you said to McCain McCain doesn’t have a great size McCain was here yesterday I got a message from a friend um about about him being in town it’s funny he’s like wearing this big Duke sweatshirt where it’s almost like hey everybody at the airport it’s me Jared if you want to see it you know I’m right here uh and then like Devin Carter has only been a good shooter for one year and like his shot is a little funky mhm there’s a lot to like about Carter we talked about him last week um but the shooting stuff is a little bit scary uh mckel and I are going to do a pot about him for the Dream Team show soon and Mel’s like eyes popped out of his head a little bit when I was talking about his shooting so uh that will be that will be an interesting episode and Carter there’s some a lot of great things about Carter I would I’d really like for them to take him too um but I think that you feel a little bit better about bub Carrington’s shooting overall as well and like you go through everybody else you know Fury and Collier and jacobe Walter and even Tristan da Silva who I think is a good fit for the Thunder but like the rebounding is really bad um you know there’s just there’s a lot to like about him and so uh I’m fully on board with Bob carington uh one more thing about Bob he he is a solid rebounder I mean his defensive rebound percentage was 16.8 which would put him well ahead of you know like Jay dub and Aaron Wiggins and Lou Dort um so that’s nice I I was going to mention D Silva’s kind of the latest guy like last week it was Jared McCain in terms of guys who I like but I just don’t like for the Thunder at 12 the Silva is the last uh version of that I’ve been I’ve been reading more about him I just like to I don’t totally buy that so I I was going through prey’s uh previous lottery picks and I feel like things that link them is they either have a elite skill in the case of like giddy with passing or they have Elite Physical measurements or Andor Elite Physical measurements yeah um you know going back to the idea of the of the wingspan and I’m just not convinced that he’s like that level of shooter um you know I see him getting comped to cam a lot cam Johnson and if you go back and look at cam Johnson in his final year at UNCC like he shot I think it was over 10 three-point attempts per 100 possession shooting 46% yeah on those attempts like he was an elite shooter and same thing with like Trey Murphy Trey Murphy shot like 43% um on over 10 attempts per 100 possessions and D Silva’s like at eight uh attempts per 100 possession shot like 39.5% obviously like a good shooter but I just worry like if he’s not a knockdown shooter like what else are you getting um because because the way people describe him it seems like he does a lot of things well but like it you know he he’s not hanging his hat on defense the way like K Wallace did you know or hanging his hat on on passing like giddy like what is his other thing other than shooting and I’m just not convinced that he’s like that level of shooter so I he’s a guy who like I would understand later in the first round and it feels like that’s where most people originally had him but then as you get close to the draft it’s like well he is 69 although if you look at his comparisons like he is you know the whole idea of this like big shooter is because we want to find someone who’s bigger than jdub to play the four kind of he’s like even though jdub is so so much shorter than him I think job was like six4 and a half without shoes yeah combine he has like a three inch longer wingspan he has a higher standing reach so like I don’t know that this that dilva is necessarily that bigger for that we’re really looking for compared to jdub yeah I agree I I think if you get I think the idea of like the next whoever like the four is or whoever like takes the if you know if and when the Thunder Chang the starting lineup like I think you want somebody in there that is going to impact the game physically you know and I just the Silva is just not going to be that guy you know Silva may end up being a a small forward like a wing in the league rather than like a four you know I think that’s totally possible with how slight he is and then the just like the non- rebounding stuff but that’s scary too because then like no one’s saying that he’s like the most athletic guy out there yeah I mean these are all the reasons why I just don’t I’m not a huge I I like him I understand why teams like him but he’s not like my favorite Prospect I would say yeah um Jerry West just passed away rip 86 years old 86 man the logo obviously changed the NBA in so many ways as an executive and then as a player yeah that’s sad man I always think back to that uh the LeBron draft lottery where you know he was representing the the Grizzlies yeah and what a position to be in where like I mean he didn’t make that trade that that ended up with that pick leaving and to to be at the point where like you know you’ve made it to that I think back then they like revealed the final three at the end to know you’ve made it that far and that you’re one pick away from getting LeBron or having to give the pick up like there’s just nothing ever going to be close to that like like people talk about like the coin flips back in the day like I know like I think Hakeem was a coin flip and I think there was another one with with another guy later but man to have that type of a shot at LeBron and have to be on TV when you experience that that was just so brutal so so brutal yeah man what would it it would feel so crazy for your silhouette to be the logo of the NBA I wonder how they decided to make him like the logo of the NBA it’s very cool like it’s awesome I know especially someone like Jerry West who isn’t like I mean he’s it’s not like he has like a Charles Barkley type of Personality where he was like always out in public like he he was a pretty like reserved guy and you know like he his story is really interesting um and like his personality so yeah I I’d be interested what he like thought of what he really thought of that yeah that it would be that would have I’m sure that there is like somewhere where his like unfiltered thoughts about the logo are yeah I’m sure that that stuff will start to surfice today but rip Jerry West man that’s kind of sad uh Tanner stack gives us a Super Chat and asks would you prefer that OKC had won a championship in the I think he means the 15 16 Season with Durant still on the team if it meant never acquiring SGA in the future for the OKC and well um yeah you probably take that I mean dude it would have felt so good in 2016 to like be beat the Warriors and then go and win the NBA Finals well and also like that would have been in retrospect an alltime playoff run to be a 73- win Warriors team and then to beat that Cavs team who that I mean that Cavs team obviously was awesome they they won the championship in 2016 yeah although did he say 2016 or 201617 well he says 2016 17 but that’s like Durant was already gone that yeah because and also if they win the championship KD staying that’s what I was about to say is like the ripple effect from winning the title means Kevin resigns they probably trade caner and do all the things they’re going to do bring in Al Horford they still made the the trade to get yeah domas and victoro like that team was so stacked and ready to not only like go for like a repeat but like have what could be a dynasty and it would have just been cooler for the league because then you would have OKC Golden State I mean they would be coming off a 73 win season and you would have the cap Spike they would have brought in someone yeah and then you still have uh Cleveland like those are three super high-powered teams and then Houston would still be good in that scenario as well so yeah I would have I would take that honestly I would take that even if you just told me KD was staying and they didn’t win the championship just because I think those next couple years like really threw the NBA yeah off track oh it ruin it ruined the league like it absolutely ruined the league like unironically I know people people say that sometimes but I like truly believe that that like disrupted the natural order of things because that cap Spike was so was such an anomaly yeah yeah thanks for bringing it up Tanner yeah thanks Tanner thanks a lot um there are reports that the Thunder have interest in Isaiah hartenstein from the New York nicker buers uh I actually went on the Nicks Film School podcast yesterday really to discuss that I did who’ you talk to Andrew claudo all Andrew pod and so there was a a report that comes from the New York Post from Stefan Bondi that says that the Thunder have legitimate interest in Isaiah hartenstein um and one of the quotes is it’s real andb Source says OKC’s interest in hartenstein I will say this I do not doubt the validity of the report I don’t doubt that the Thunder have interest in him he’s a very good player and he the thing about him like he’s very unique as a center because he can really pass um but you’re gonna have to pay him probably the the thing that we discussed on next film school yesterday was two years 20 two years 50 million yeah to primy him away and one is that enough money to pry him away from the Knicks his wife is a model that primarily Works in New York city so like we have to like have that context that’s built in there and it is moving from Oklahoma City or from New York City to Oklahoma City and like no shade to OKC but it is a lot different it is a whole lot different um and so I and then also then you get then after that like just getting past that let’s say like he’s like yeah totally cool with living OKC are are the Thunder going to be willing to spend $50 million over the next two years for their backup center you know because I just have a hard time getting there with that now maybe the answer is yes and maybe it’s because they’re gonna they’re going to treat this like the Bruce Brown trade that the that the Pacers just did yeah you know and that would make sense one Isaiah hartstein absolutely helps you immediately from day one like he helps you right out the gate he is such a huge upgrade over Jay will as a backup center I think that because of like the true passing chops that he has you can probably play him with chat a little bit and then like when you if you play a Minnesota if you play teams like that like you can play you can play super big and I think that that is certainly very helpful and like that that’s going to fix the rebounding stuff quickly now it changes you fundamentally as a team and I don’t know if the Thunder want to change all that much as a team um but he helps you immediately and then if the trade becomes available for a guy that you want then like you can use hardenstein who’s a valuable player that can help whoever he’s being traded to you have the draft picks you have lots of young players that could be put into a deal you know it gives you options with with that kind of contract 25 million is like a that’s a substantial deal that could help get you somebody that’s really good so I think there are reasons to believe that it’s true there are reasons to believe that it could happen all that said I still find it to be unlikely to actually come to fruition yeah so first if I just look at it from like the conspiracy theory angle I’m like well maybe he’s just trying to pressure the Knicks to give him the full four years because they can give him four years 72 million and so maybe this is his way of trying to pressure them into giving him all of those years um on on from his perspective like two for 50 is still really good because if the max the Nicks can offer is 72 million over four years that means in two years he only has to make up 22 million to reach that same amount like that that would be 11 million a year which he can probably get in a cou with the cap Rising it’s gonna be very easy for him to get there right so yeah it almost benefits him more to do a a shorter deal like this um you know a few weeks ago it may been last week we were kind of talking about this idea of like paying a lot for a center I think we were mainly talking about Jared Allen but I might have mentioned hartenstein two and the reason was because the report back then was that it was likely he was going to get four years a 100 million and that I just couldn’t see the Thunder doing like committing that much money to like you said a backup center money that is going to extend into you know Jeb and Chet’s next contract window two for 50 though is a lot different because now it almost becomes like you said like this Bruce Brown thing kind of this like luxury um player where like yeah you don’t you don’t need a $25 million backup center um for sure but if you feel good about the rest of your roster and feel like this is the biggest missing piece well then yeah it does start to make a little bit more sense so I I don’t know I mean it it would still surprise me which I think it would still surprise you as well the thing I would push back on is I see a lot of people saying like well no one knows what prey’s ever doing you know they keep it all under wraps one that’s not true they’re definitely draft picks that we knew weeks before um Poco being the obvious one but the other thing is that like this is kind of Uncharted Territory like when else have we been talking about OKC having the space and it actually making sense for them to chase a $20 million a year plus free agent like that just doesn’t happen and I I think that it might be a little bit easier to keep your draft pick interest Under Wraps than it would be to keep your free agent interest Under Wraps because at some level you have to find out from the agent is this even within the realm of possibility would your would your client ever have interest coming here yeah and so I I just think it’s a little bit harder to keep that stuff under reps I’m not saying that this isn’t made up maybe it is made up but I just don’t I don’t buy the idea that like everything OKC does is always going to be silent completely under wraps you’re never going to hear about it this is this is different this is a free agency this isn’t the draft so I’m I’m inclined like you are to believe it a little bit although you reread the article and really the only quote that like really get you is the it’s real because the the quote about the two years 50 million that says a league Source speculated so like that isn’t someone so I I don’t again I don’t know how much to believe it but I I do think it it would potentially make sense on that type of deal um and the other thing I like about him in comparison to someone like Jared Allen it feels to a lot of people that hartenstein is a starting center in this league he’s really never been that that that’s not really been his role the only reason he started for the Knicks was because Mitchell Robinson went out before Mitchell Robinson went out he was playing 17 18 minutes a night which is what he had played his entire career you go back through his career he was never averaging over 20 minutes per game so it’s someone that is used to playing in a backup role it would not be a major shift for him to come to OKC and start getting 20 minutes a night even though he’d be making a lot more money so whereas like if if if you did trade for Jared Allen like that’s a player who’s been an All-Star used to being a starter you’re really going to bring Jared Allen Off the Bench for 20 minutes A Night Like That Never made sense to me hartenstein is someone who that would actually fall right in line with the rest of his career that’s like what he’s been it feels different now because he was so good in that role once Mitchell Robinson went out but if they brought him back if the Knicks brought him back guess what he’s he’s probably coming off the bench next year too like they really like Mitchell Robinson Mitchell Robinson’s been an incredible offensive rebounder for their team and kind of like Define their identity early in the season so if Mitchell Robinson’s healthy I don’t know that they’re necessarily going to send him to the bench because hartstein had this nice run to the end of the season so yeah for those reasons I I think it could potentially make some sense it would be a a luxury item paying a backup center 25 million a year but he would definitely help yeah I mean yeah he definitely would help I still have a hard time getting there just like spending that kind of money one he would be their best free agent they’ve ever gotten Oh by by far so by Leaps and Bounds I still one I I still have trouble getting to the fact that they could actually get him actually shout out to Isaiah Joe Isaiah Joe might uh challenge hardenstein long term yeah but good like with everybody knowing that they’re good yeah yeah yeah you know like obviously Isaiah Joe like if the Thunder got Isaiah Joe and knew that they were getting this guy yeah yeah of course I don’t even think they knew they they didn’t know that they were getting this guy he’s obviously he’s obviously a very good player um one I just have a hard time getting there with that that they could actually get somebody um two I I just don’t know that they want a center that doesn’t shoot threes like are they willing to to spend that kind of money on a guy who’s not spend that much money on a guy who doesn’t fit perfectly into the way that they want to play and so I just I don’t know I just have questions about it I if it ended up happening I I I personally think it could Vault the Thunder into to being one of the best if not the best defenses in the NBA because if you have 48 minutes of Chad or Isaiah hartstein at Center like man like the paint is locked down for 48 minutes you can you have great Rim protection that’s something that I do think the Thunder need is like a second rim protector um and he obviously would be a incredible version of that so there’s there’s a lot to like there’s a lot of questions I have about it I I think it’s probably like 802 not going to happen you know but you know he’s so interesting so he’s not young you know he’s 26 yeah but he’s a young 26 he has only played in 322 NBA games yeah and really that was just the last three years when he started getting regular minutes he’s only started 61 games in his career 49 of them were this season now Andrew uh two years a or three years ago did go 14 to 30 from three hey 47% what do you think about that that is cool that is very cool uh yeah I mean honestly I would be excited if they signed any free agent like like uh to that amount of money because yeah never seen it and it’s also it’s almost a way to like keep your cap space alive kind of thing like we talked about how you trade it you know so I just think like there’s there there are like similar to like trading for Gordon Hayward there are interesting things about it outside of just the player you know there are like interesting tactical ways that you could use this a deal with hartenstein so I I don’t I don’t I don’t think it’s G to happen but I think that it’s one it’s fun to think about and then two I do think because of his good really good passing and the defense and his size too like there’s there’s just a lot a lot of there’s a lot of interesting things there so um and of course they could Draft Zack Edy and then he could be mentored by hartenstein and then when hartenstein leaves in two years you have Edy coming in that would be one thing one thing people talk about a lot is like his chat four a five well the question no one is asking is ched a three that’s a great Point that’s such a good point because Edie hartenstein Chad as you know good luck huh good luck League who’s scoring on that all they have to do is spread out their arms they would definitely do a photo where they’re doing that I would yeah we’d have it we’d have it right up here and down to dunk Studios just that cool the Ed hartenstein chat Trio may maybe they’re just gonna zag on themselves you know oh did I do that I think you he must have given a thumbs up uh maybe they’re just going to zag on themselves you know it’s like you know we want to play small fast switchy we want to be you know rhythmic we want everybody to be able to dribble it’s like you know what not anymore no going Ed and hartenstein and uh we’re gonna be giant that that would be fun too that would be a fun zag uh okay we’re going to take a quick break after this we are going to talk about the Southwest Division and maybe who the Thunder could trade for in the Southwest Division we’ll be right back and we’re back after that quick bre break ow Let’s uh let’s break down some some Southwest Division players and who they could trade for and if they make any sense at all now to be clear Andrew we haven’t done the Pacific division yet which is earlier on our list but I do think we should do the Southwest Division because it’s shorter so I am going to do the Southwest Division but we have to come back and do the Pacific yeah um a few notes I saw someone saying you know if you’re trading for someone like uh I think it was marketing uh you have to take into account on impact that the fact that you might have to give up jdub all of these trades me and Andrew are are making with the idea that you are not having to give up Shay Chad or J know um and and and that might factor into whether the tra the targets are actually realistic or not um because if you would have to give up one of those guys we’re probably going to put the realistic down near one yeah um okay so we’re doing the Southwest Division Dallas New Orleans Memphis San Antonio and Houston which I couldn’t really come up with anyone for Houston I started to do Jan Tate but as I got into it more I just I don’t know I mean talk why like if he was like six7 then we could like have a conversation but yeah yeah and I just felt like for someone that couldn’t crack the Rockets uh lineup all like rotation in a consistent way like his minutes drop significantly he only averaged 16 minutes a game does he really fit my rule of who you’re going to bring this guy in and you basically know they’re going to be part of like an eight-man rotation I didn’t know that I could positively say that for Jon Tate because he he doesn’t really shoot the ball he shot he only took 1.2 threes per game shot under 30% so um and then they just don’t have very many thundery guys yeah and and also a lot of them are just they’re really young guys and that they would want to keep like why why are they really trading Jabari Smith Jr like yeah so like yeah you can talk about Aaron holiday Jeff Green if you’d like but again I don’t know if they’re definitely cracking an 8man rotation AR hod is a free agent too yeah he is um okay so here we go we’re starting off with a a thunder villain newly minted this season Derek Jones Jr Master of the fadeaway the mid-range fade away he’s an unrestricted free agent he has not been that player in subsequent Series yeah which is a bummer but uh man I didn’t realize he was 6’5 yeah you could have told me he was 6’10 and I would have been like oh yeah that makes sense six5 how is that possible yeah uh so as a reminder Andrew is gonna rank uh all these players in four categories fit on the basketball court impact if you added them to the team how much would it really potentially swing like a a playoff run contract and then how realistic is it trying to be more objective with the first two you be more subjective with the last two so where would you rank Derrick Jones Jr’s fit Derek Jones Jr’s fit I think his fit is probably like a two or a three okay I don’t think he the thing about him probably I’ll just say it two I he’s much more of a standstill shooter like wait for the ball to come and hit his hands kind of guy fine and that works great for the Mavericks but that’s not the way the Thunder function like they don’t really have like who who are the standstill shooters that they have like Jay will is probably like one of the only like standstill guys but he does more than that too as an offensive player um he can make simple passing reads like there’s just not a lot there offensively he’s a crazy jumper where he’s obviously a lob threat but the thund don’t throw lobs very well so um yeah I like him as a player if the Thunder just picked him up like if they were the ones that got him on a minimum I think he would help them but on what he’s going to demand on his next deal um I just I just just don’t think so so yeah I don’t think he really fits like the Thunder mold of like we want in a in a wing he’s a in terms of defensive rebounding he’s a worse defensive rebounder than Jay duub his defensive rebound percentage was 10.3% he only took 6.4 three-point attempts per 100 possessions which is is pretty low as well um this was kind of one of the first Seasons where he shot decently but still like he shot 35% from three is from cleaning glass 34% from the corner which is why they left him open um okay so what would you think his impact would be on the team uh probably I mean the thing is like I think he’s probably playing over Aaron Wiggins the question for me is like how much better is he on the Thunder and for the Thunder than Aaron Wiggins yeah and I think it is a better impact but I don’t think it’s like he’s such a huge upgrade that they become such a better team so I think I might have it as a two there as well I think the thing about players like this is like he is maximizing who he can be with Dallas because he’s playing with Luca and Kyrie he demands much attention he’s good with cuts as is Wiggins like if Wiggins was on the Mavs I think like he would have I mean he would be really good for them too you know Inc threes because he can and he also knows how and when to cut and things like that so like some of this is like who is he replacing what does that role look like and how much better is he than the player that he’s replacing and I just don’t think he’s that much better than Aaron Wiggins I think he’s better than Aaron Wiggins I think he’ be an upgrade but I think like the it’s pretty marginal in my in my eyes uh what about has contract he’s unrestricted free agent no idea what he’s going to get he was not on a big deal at all this year I’m guessing maybe he’d get like a midlevel potential that would be like the most maybe maybe more just because like playoff runs are Amplified and the fact that he’s a starter on a playoff team you know he he could get 17 18 million I don’t know I don’t think it’s a great deal I mean I I I mean honestly like Isaiah hartenstein is gonna get 17 or 18 million or more you know yeah yeah yeah and so I think people could say like an athletic Wing like that who’s still in his 20s like yeah let’s do it um so I could I could see his contract being if if it’s like four or five years I’m not saying that it’s going to be like some crazy awful deal but it’s one that I don’t think the Thunder could afford to do yeah yeah so the mid level for next year is around 13 it starts at 13 that would be very reasonable very very reasonable um okay so what would you give his contract potential contract probably like a three and then how realistic is it Andrew I I think it’s I think it’s a one like I just don’t think it’s realistic at all uh let’s move on to the next guy another another guy we saw in the playoffs MH big yonas valent chunis you say you want a rebounder you say you want a center here you go unrestricted 611 265 we can probably do him quick what is his fit Andrew that’s a one and what about his impact big big science um I mean if he came in and that if they if they signed him yeah that would mean that they believe that he is going to you don’t sign Jas not play him right he’s not he’s not you’re not bringing him to be a mentor no no no he’s not he’s not the the second coming of Mike mascala I I think that he would have like a thre level impact because he’ come in and play and he’s a good player you know wow wow wow wow I think he’s he’s a good player and he would definitely impact second units for sure and help rebound help with the rebounding stuff for sure uh what do you think his uh how his contract would look I think he made about 16 per year on his last deal um see it down to the mid level yeah he’s an unrestricted free agent he’s just kind of a dinosaur in a lot of ways you know which are cool and I’m talking about really cool Velociraptors no I don’t like he’s he’s just I he’s just if he was in if he played in like 2002 gonis valunas would be like probably a near max level player you know like he would he would demand so many touches he’d be getting so many post-ups you know because he’s a good passer out of post-ups but like they never post him up like never ever it would be such a waste of a time machine but that that yonas not necessarily would be tough on my list but putting centers back in the 9s and also bringing 90 centers forward to see how they would do it would it would be up there if if I got to do a lot with my time machine I would eventually get to that definitely I would definitely love to give Jonas a chance to play in like the late 90s and then would love to see what Patrick what Patrick Ying would do in uh well you you would have to bring Shaq back especially bring young Shaq bring Shack wreck shop it would be so awesome he would change the he would change the NBA everybody would be like what do we do can you imagine Chad poor Chad having to go up against Orlando Shaq oh my gosh he would demolish everybody there’s like no one like him yeah I’m trying to think who could even who would like be best equipped to handle young Shack I mean there was nobody then no I don’t think there’s anybody right now that’s like ready to handle like who’s like the the strongest biggest center right now that like plays with good Force yeah I mean I don’t I I can’t like my mind can’t even think of like a good name right now bam maybe but like bam is so small compared to Shaq yeah you know like Bam’s like 69 610 like I just don’t like bam is definitely strong enough to he man I just am having just like Daydreams of uh Shaq just destroying Rudy gobear just on so many people you know Stephen Adams probably if he’s healthy is probably like the one you know yeah he’s big enough to deal with Shaq um yeah I would love to see Shaq against like gobear and and yic too you know yeah that would be unbelievable it would it would definitely I mean he changed the way that the league played for a long time he would definitely do that you know um okay we’re taking way too much time yonas contract it’s bad whatever it is I don’t care okay uh and how realistic is it one for you okay next up though Larry NCH Jr 68 245 what about his fit I think he fits really I think he’s like a four because he’ll take he’ll take some threes he is a good passer he is definitely a backup uh he’s almost like just like a better Jay will in a lot of ways yeah he doesn’t take a ton of Threes but he did shoot 43% on threes this year the best best season 42% from the corner 43% above the break really impressive yeah um what about his potential impact I think he’s good enough to say like he he would make the the backup center minutes not as bad in the playoffs so like probably like a three impact and then contract expiring 11.2 million yeah I can’t imagine that he would get all that much more than that and so I think it’s like a like his contract would be like a three or a four like it’s not going to hurt you right and then how realistic is it now the the Pelicans they have a lot of money coming up you know they’re eventually going to have to extend Trey Murphy they’re going to probably trade Brandon Ingram but they’re probably going to try to trade him for another piece yeah so they might be looking to shed a little bunny yeah maybe like I mean maybe like a two or a three I just don’t find it to be all that realistic okay um next up Andrew now this is this is debatable whether he would definitely come in and be a part of an eight-man rotation Naji Marshall 67 220 unrestricted free agent yeah uh got a great wingspan over 7et that’s cool yeah uh he does shoot it but uh actually he shot it very well this season um 41% from three he doesn’t take a lot takes 5.9 threes per 100 possession 38% from three uh this is all this is all from uh cleaning the glass okay he was terrible in garbage time but when it mattered Andrew he was a 40% shooter okay okay uh what do you think his potential fit is one like the guy can like not dribble wow okay um his potential impact Andrew a zero because he’s not oh my gosh can’t can’t choose zero his contract unrestricted free agent I mean it’s going to be probably like a three like he’s not going to make that much money okay and how realistic one like I don’t I don’t know what are we doing here okay fine sorry next one Marcus Smart 63 220 you know Marcus Smart oh man he used to be a guy we would talk about a lot yeah hey uh you know if he was if he was your Sixth Man coming off the bench think about that in the playoffs yeah that’d be something yeah okay what would you have his fit as um of two like what what do we need Marcus Smart for like we have Dort and case w we have younger less expensive versions of Marcus Smart on the um yes okay he’s also like very like he would be personality-wise disruptive heart and soul of the team heart and soul that we traded and got so much better we have so much more of a sure footing uh like no like no like I just no just no so just for everyone listening in case you don’t know Andrew went to Oklahoma State so this is Cowboy on Cowboy violence right now Loy loyal and true he’s a he’s a one and done wow so still still counts that’s why I’m such a big Trey young fan why I talk about Trey all the time uh what do you think his potential impact would be um probably like a three like I mean he’d come off the bench and he’d be the be the he’d be the best player Off the Bench they trade for him he would be contract lines up pretty well 20 million next year 21.3 million and that’s it so just these next two years I mean it’s similar to like you could like view it as like a balloon payment like the hartenstein deal right you know and he’s trade piece so I think his contract’s like a three I think it’s fine and then how realistic um one I just don’t see like the need there like he’s like a worst shooting Dort like he’s he’s a career 32% from three and mik Dort though he will get them up he will I mean he took seven per game 31% like you think you think you’re frustrated with D sometimes you think you are but this dude will not only like he will take if you’re looking for somebody to take shots away from jdub bring in Marcus Smart because he will absolutely he took shots away from the Jays for years that people were frustrated about so yeah he uh he’s also an awful rebounder like worse than Dort worse than Jay dub yeah his defensive rebounding percentage is 8.9 this past season yeah how many okay fine how many times have you heard the phrase of this season man the Celtics Miss Marcus Smart um not a lot that is the first time that I’ve heard it and it was you saying it right then he’s saying it hypothetically okay we have three players left I have like maybe five minutes next one Santi Alama now we know Santi was oh yeah Marcus played two years did he play two years at OSU why did I oh yeah he did remember he was gonna come out or like people thought he was going to come out and then he went back why did I forget that seems like you’re not as big of a fan as as we all thought it must that must be the case I can’t believe that I forgot that who’s so who’s your favorite I’m just keep derailing it who’s your favorite cowboy of all time basketball player of all time yeah um I did love Tony Allen oh okay yeah a good one John Lucas the third yeah who was the guy was his name Mario Mario Bogan yeah I remember Mario I did really like Mario Bogan yeah hated David mons by the way hated David Ms if you’re out there listening David mons I am I am I’m still just just vomiting to whatever minutes getting lordy lordy okay Santi Al dama we know the Thunder wanted him in that draft the Memphis traded into the first round to get him 611 224 he’s he got uh 3.9 he’s actually eligible for an extension this summer they don’t have to give it to him next summer he would be a restricted free agent uh so he’s making 3.9 next year no matter what uh what do you think about his fit say it again I was lost in like OSU thoughts say oh I was just saying that he’s eligible for an extension this summer but will’ll make 3.9 million regardless this coming year if he doesn’t get extended he’ll be a restricted free agent next summer but my question is who are you talking about uh I am talking about Santi dama okay um I love San Al dama I love him for specifically for this team I think he’s like a four okay uh what do you think about his potential impact that I don’t know I don’t like how much meaningful basketball has sanama played with the Grizzlies be uh yeah I mean this year was tough just because they didn’t really have a point guard and so he he definitely had a down year but I think I don’t know who didn’t have a down year yeah GG Jackson Vince Williams those are the two guys that seem to do well yeah he’s not a good shooter not yet he’s kind of a fake shooter a little bit but here here’s the thing though he takes per 100 possessions 9.2 threes so like he is a willing shooter he’s a will 9.2 is good for a big man that’s the same as like uh I’m looking on my list Trey ly takes that amount of Threes it’s a little bit less than like Royce O’Neal and Kevin herder so he he like takes a good amount of Threes yes he hasn’t shot well yet but he’s like 6 shot 62% from the free throw line okay okay so what you far the worst free throw shooter outside of kenrich yes but chip chip chip chip chip what do you think his impact would be chip fixes everything um impact like a like a like a two he’s like a bench big okay his contract I already spelled it out yeah I mean it’s like a four it’s like it’s pretty good yeah especially I mean I mean yeah they wouldn’t extend him in the scenario so you’re getting a guy who’s GNA go under restrict free agency but like who cares yeah yeah and how realistic is this um I I I I would say that Memphis would probably just rather just hang on to him so it’s probably like a two perhaps um they have some some money issues coming up as well and it depends on what they do in the draft too like if they draft a big in this draft like maybe they would be willing to move him that that was one of the reasons why I even put him on here just because all the rumors that like they’re interested in clling in and so I was like okay well maybe if they got clling in they could if they signed another big then all of a sudden like do they really need Santi Al dama so it was just an idea it was more like if they don’t want to extend him because they think that what they saw this season is more indicative of what he’s going to be long term maybe they could try to flip him to a team that had interest in him at least yeah and and would theoretically fit even though as you mentioned he has not really been able to shoot yet yeah although he actually shot he shot 29% from the corners this year 38% above the break okay two more names from the Spurs Kellin Johnson who 65 another guy who you could tell me was like 68 or 69ine yeah player than he is for sure he does um what do you think about his fit oh boy Kellin I I like Kellin he’s also a little bit of like a sneaky fake shooter um he’s 35% from three for his career he had one really good season yeah I think it was like year two or three yeah year three that he shot 39% and then he just like went back like to to normal so I one I like him in that he’s he plays bigger than he is he is a decent rebounder for his size um and a he’s becoming a he’s become like a better playmaker too as he’s been given more responsibility ities so I like I like those things about him and he’s a willing shooter you know he takes he takes enough threes where like I think that you’re gonna have to guard him just because he’s gonna take him um so I like him I I think the fit is not seamless just because of his size like I I think you could slide him in like if you if if he was the one that you if the Thunder did end up moving on from Giddy and let’s say they trade him to San Antonio and like let’s say like he was the one they took back like I think you could start him you know with this group and like you just you just kind of fly up and down the court you know with that group um so I I don’t hate the idea of it but I don’t think the fit’s great I think it’s like a three probably and his potential impact if he was on this team he would impact the team so like a probably a four like he’s talented enough to impact anywhere that he plays so yeah I think that he would definitely impact the team um his uh his contract three more years but is descending 19 17.5 17.5 yeah I I think it’s fine I think it’s like a three I think it’s fine I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that kind of deal in this this day and age in the NBA and and one thing I do like is that if you do if the Thunder did acquire him like he you have him under you know cost control until 267 like I like that um okay and how realistic is it I mean it’s probably like a two like I just I don’t see it being very realistic um okay final one Andrew for the Southwest Division Zack Collins 611 250 we’ve talked about him a lot making 16.7 and 18.1 so his contract at least fits um what do you think about his fit he’d be backup center yeah as a player I I actually like him quite a bit like he is a center that will take threes so as everybody knows like I like that um I he’s not that he’s been like great but he will take them I think defensively he is like a nice upgrade over Jay will a lot of that is just he’s a little bit bigger than Jay will is um he’s a decent rebounder he’s a pretty good passer actually um yeah big red flag I talked to him when the Spurs were in town and he called yic jokic which was just a giant red flag for me that’s like interesting like what are we doing here um but I think the fit it’s probably like a four like if you’re looking for a backup center like health is like really the only thing that I think would be like the biggest thing for him but now would you rather pay Zach Collins two years like 35 million or Isaiah hartenstein two years 50 million I think I would rather have hardenstein okay uh what do you think about Zack Hollins potential impact uh let like a three like I think he’d help certainly I think obvious it’s funny because you’ve already kind of gotten to see like the wimy Zack Collins lineups play out and be very very bad you know yeah and like it gives you like a a little window into what maybe the chat lineups with him could look like although chat’s just like a better floor spacer than wimy or at least when they played together is a better floor space than wimby was um so like you have to take that into account because when he was playing with wimby wimy was like taking lots of threes and missing like all of them um yeah yeah so it’s hard for me to like totally blame Collins Collins was actually like a little when I talked to him he was like a little bit frust you could tell there’s frustration in the way that he was being used um in San Antonio because he he told me that he wished that he would have gotten more time with Webby um so there’s also like that aspect too like if you came to OKC is like you think he’s like totally cool just being a backup center like I don’t know I think there’s I think there’s no you better get cool with it who’s starting him no I mean nobody should start him what do you think about his contract I think it’s like a two like I just don’t think he’s that good and I think like that is like the more you look at that deal it’s you just kind of I kind of just think myself like why yeah it’s a bad deal I mean it’s not worse for the Thunder though I mean it only goes two years and it’s I know level yeah but to me it’s just like why I’m thinking like why did San Antonio do that well I I think they thought there was a lot more upside there I mean I remember the year before wmi like there were he had some real like fantasy basketball moments where he was like putting up some really fun statlines and I think they kind of saw him as this like Do-it all Center that you could pair with wemi and really like the fit and then for reasons you just mentioned and probably other reasons it just didn’t work out and so yeah now he’s become this backup on their team where they don’t want to play him with wimpy as much and so his his role is just all of a sudden diminished and so yeah it looks like a stupid contract retrospect but um how realistic do you think this is I don’t think he’s getting moved so like one I just don’t think San Antonio is gonna one I don’t think San is going to move him and then two like it would take the Thunder saying like we’re going to give up positive assets to take him you know and I just have a really hard time seeing like that being the route that they go and another reason why I like hartenstein is like you don’t have to give up anything to get him right you know makes a big difference that’s like the biggest thing it’s like you’re gonna give up a first round pick to get Zack Collins or you can give up like five second round picks to Zack Collins it’s like that would just if that was the move that they made let’s say like that’s the move they made this summer they kept the starting lineup they kept everything together like and we dealt 5c rounders to get Zach Collins it would just feel like you know yeah all right Andrew we have a new top five okay now this will be this will be fun after we finish the Pacific Division because then we’ll have done the whole Western Conference current top five for free agent or trade targets Robert Williams still number one time lord yep Lowry marinan number two Larry NCH Jr making an appearance at number three Larry Nas Reed number four tied with Santi Alama number five so all bigs yeah so that’s good last on the list Yousef nurkic so I think we’re going to try to do another one tomorrow and then we’ll have finished the Western Conference and then we’ll start on the East which actually I think there’s more interesting names in the East but we’ll see yeah yeah yeah yeah we’ll do it we’re going to do a special pod for you guys tomorrow kind of just breaking this stuff down so be sure to tune in to the YouTube stream hey if you guys are on the YouTube stream right Any hope that Ousman Dieng can develop into that “5” spot the Thunder need so bad, even if it takes another 1-2 years? What a help that would be if OKC doesn’t have to spend a buttload of money on a 5 in free agency. Just curious.
Bub teammates #25 I went to watch bub highlights and #25 look like chet out there
Okc need 2 bigs 1 mobile 1 station and what y’all think about dj burns
Devin carter shoots with contact like Shai… very good.
Daron Holmes is what we need.
Been waiting for thunder trades part two! Andrew killed the knicks podcast appearance as well
We need to sign someone with salary to fill cap space in case we want to trade for someone with a high salary.
Marcus Smart can't shoot though he is a great defender.
Also there's a jaylin Williams who I think will be available in the second round so I assume the thunder will make sure they get him
"I thought he was 6'10", how is he 6'5"" that's the absence of the metric system right there
Missed Tari Eason on Houston. They have a log jam at the forward spot, it's not cheap and I doubt they really want to get rid of him but if your looking for a forward who can rebound thats your guy.
I always liked Hartenstein but prefer Frankenstein.
Melo made that move lol😂 he hated
u buggin desilva is a way better fit for this team then bub carrington dude is 6 3 at best cmon andrew wake up
Andrew loves OSU/Memphis Tony Allen? If my Grandmother gave the Thunder fits in the Playoffs the way Tony Allen did; I'd still kick her walker out from her when she crossed the street
Keldon is horrible at defense..
Rodman was a Shaq stopper
My favorite OSU player Michael Cobbins
