Here’s What Jordan Hawkins Showed During the 2023-24 Season
interesting about the New Orleans Pelicans this past season was that there was a stark contrast between quality and quantity when it came to three-point shooting while they shot 38.3% from Beyond The Arc the fourth best Mark in the league they averaged the seventh fewest attempts with 32.6 of them per contest times that they were a heavier three-point shooting team were when rookie Jordan Hawkins was on the floor 65.4% of the shots taken by Hawkins were from three-point range among the 213 players who took at least 400 shots this season that was 12th highest among the players with a higher 3. of 10% rate was his Pelicans teammate Trey Murphy I 3 as 72% of his shot attempts were from downtown number one on that list in case you’re curious was Celtic Sharpshooter Sam Hower 83% of his shot attempts came from three-point distance what stands out most about Hawkins and his outside shooting is that he’s comfortable shooting with little space even with a Defender swarming him he’s able to make threes at a pretty efficient rate using his quick release and good mechanics According to second Spectrum tracking data he took 80 standstill catch and shoot three-pointers that were heavily contested and he made 45% of them among the 42 players who took at least 80 of them that was the 10th best Mark number one on this list was Clippers guard Norman Powell and number two was Kevin Durant amazing about Durant was that he took the third most heavily contested standstill catch and shoe threes and managed to shoot just under 49% on them that’s extraordinary although maybe unsurprising since we know how good of a shooter KD is where Hawkins shot it best from a general standpoint regardless of contest level and play type was straight away he made 44.6% of his attempts from the top of the arc which was the 11th best Mark among the 154 players who took at least 50 shots from this region 10th on that list was his Pelicans teammate CJ McCullum on the other hand Hawkins did not shoot it well from the three-point Wings only making 30% of his 156 attempts for in these areas overall from three-point range he shot 36.6% on 298 attempts what’s arguably most striking about him though is his off ball movement when I watched him at Yukon I was extremely impressed by his ability to navigate around screens whether they be down screens flare screens or any other and stay balanced when he squared up to the basket and we’re seeing it in the pros as well now he didn’t shoot it extraordinarily well from three point Point range coming off an off ball screen 15 of 41 to be precise but it looks smooth and effortless there are a few players right now in the league that thrive at this among them are Steph Curry and Klay Thompson low marketing is terrific at this especially at his size also Paul George and Brandon Miller are very good at this Miller of course has often been compared to George now Hawkins didn’t shoot it well inside the arc on a general level on drives and cuts combined he only shot 41% on 71 attempts out of 325 players with at least 50 of these shots that was the six six worst Mark a lot of his attempts going to the basket were wild and out of control not really showing much creativity he does have a pretty good touch however on stepback jumpers as you can see from these clips from two-point range he made 13 of his 26 step back jumpers only 28% of his shot attempts were self-created that was the 17th lowest Mark among the 213 players who took at least 400 shots he also had one of the worst field goal percentages in transition just 39.5% in 67 games Hawkins averaged 7.8 points 2.2 rebounds and one assist shooting 38.2% from the field overall and 36.6% from three-point range twice he erupted for over 30 points first on November 6th at Denver when he scored 31 points and then again on January 13th at Dallas where he erupted for 34 points so that’ll wrap up this video If you like this kind of content please subscribe

Pelicans need to trade CJ and open up more minutes for Hawkins.
Good video! Do you think you'll ever do one for Julian Strawther?
