Celtics mads you know the history no team in NBA history has ever come back from 3 nothing down to win a best of seven6 and0 all time nine sweeps in NBA finals history here’s Jason kid with a message for his team we got to be aggressive right this is what we live for this is what it is all about someone wrote it up we got to believe and why not us right we go to Boston tomorrow right I hope you guys all pass be aggressive get others involved legs Luca and Kyrie did that early yeah he went to work I mean he they was running these ball screens getting switches that one it’s Al Horford did what he wanted to do Kyrie again the aggressiveness we’ve seen this now two games in a row going to that left hand with the finish and then we talked about role players what a perform how would you describe what Derek Lively gave him tonight yeah he’s been a little bit quiet in this series this is obviously uncommon stepping out hitting his first three but his activity at The Rim defensively and on the offensive glass were major factors in this game major factors Lively at The Rim here from Kyrie the lead was four under four minutes to go in the opening quarter Luca just kind of takes it away from Drew holiday and then in transition a little bully ball yeah he once he gets Drew holiday on his back right here he’s just going to back him down just great footwork the quick spin gets to the rim no weak side help for Boston 13 points in the opening quarter for Luca under a minute to go on the first it’s Kyrie for three yeah just Rises up right there saw two Defenders with their hands down and he was feeling at that point so he let it fly Luca and Kyrie out SC scoring the Celtics after 12221 second quarter more of the same Luca is going to lose it but the composure to keep it alive and then what did you see here yeah great effort at Luka first of all to stay with that to bat it to the corner and then Kyrie picks it up and super awareness right here watch Luca get up run to the front of the rim and Kyrie just sees he’s got a mismatch inside Jaylen Brown gets there late three-point play for Luca so even when Luca mishandled the ball it ended up good for Dallas certainly the lead is 18 and now it’s 20 over Sam Hower and then donic again where did Boston not defend Luca well they were switching and I just thought they were indiscriminately switching and putting themselves in bad positions that’s not a good matchup Sam Hower against LCA donic and he really took advantage of it here again the great push up the floor we talked about Pace a lot tonight there’s an example gets Derek white just bounces off of him and gets the short B shot all right so it’s 6135 at the half Lucas got 25 at the half early third you think all right Boston got to run in him it just never came and Dallas just continued to play at its Tempo yeah when you miss layups so often in the NBA you give up something great on the other end of the floor Jaylen Brown misses the bunny and Luca dones to Daniel garford which we’ve seen a lot this season next possession Jason Tatum’s going to try to step back look at Gafford yeah that’s one of the best blocks on a jump shot you are going to see look at the distance that Daniel Gafford covers and Jason Tatum I’m sure was shocked and more importantly even draws a foul as Tatum grabs his leg getting out of that scrum tremendous effort and it was across the board from the Mavericks and then obviously legs 295 and five from Luca yeah and he didn’t shoot the ball well at all from the perimeter but he dominated this area to floor and because of that Dallas had a huge Advantage with points in the paint in this game it ends up being a 38-point win one of the biggest blowouts in NBA finals history Lively the exclamation point in front of Dirk and the home fans in Dallas 122 84 a complete reversal of Fortunes from the first three games of this series Jason kid said he felt his team was close they got there in a big way and a 38-point win uh I mean you could definitely take a some things from it uh but at the same time I thought Dallas played great give a lot of credit to them uh you know all their guys whoever went in uh well balanced thought they play with a ton of energy and physicality and um you know you got to give them that and they’re they’re a great team and that’s that’s the Dallas that’s the reason why they’re here is when you know when they play like that so uh but you can definitely take some stuff from it Dan second row in the center uh Dan Devine Yahoo sports coach 26 points in the paint I believe is a season low for you guys uh three for 16 on non- rim paint shots what did you see from the process in terms of getting into the paint the finishing there what was going to given you guys a problem with that tonight uh they did a great job flying around uh making us um indecision on whether they shoot it drive it uh and then there there multiple efforts and thought their five men did a great job protecting the paint and uh every time we went in for a layup they they had multiple guys contestant so I thought uh they just did a great job flying around on defensive end Gary fourth row yeah Joe Gary Wason Boston Globe was was effort an issue at all and when did you see that you guys just didn’t have it because it seemed like no one across the board played well um I mean I don’t know always in situations like this it’s always goes back to us but you got to give Dallas Credit they just played they played well they played really really well um and uh that’s the reason why that they’re in this is because when they play like that so I thought they just out played us was great uh his energy was great um uh his ability to give us second opportunities uh he displayed his range tonight uh with the corner three and so uh he was he was really good and he’s been good and so uh you know giving us second opportunities or or picking up a foul from getting the uh offensive rebound uh was needed and I thought he did a really good job uh this evening Sam six row Tim KO the athletic uh Jason with with you guys playing like this is there um you know is is your view of it that this version of of this team could have come sooner and what emotions accompany that is is it frustration is it does it just have to be you know kind of a a looking forward and in an ability to continue this you say that again I that was a long ass question fair enough um you you guys you guys played better tonight you guys you guys played much better in a lot of areas tonight um why weren’t you able to do it sooner and and how do you continue this yeah you know it’s um we had to play our aame uh it’s you know it was this or we go on vacation so um I thought the group did a a great job of not pressing uh letting the game happen uh the flow was there um we’ve done this in the first three games it’s just we haven’t been able to capitalize uh We’ve made the mistakes and they’ve capitalized on that um they shot the three well we tried to keep them off the free throw line tonight um and not giving them second opportunity so I thought they did a really good job of of being able to execute the game plan um and let the game come to us we made some shots fin you know our role players stepped up and made some threes and that’s what we needed tonight we’re all going to put that that was a long question we’re going to put that on our phones and we’re going to use that at very ious times Tim legler joins us now look Luca for all of the criticism that he had after game three came out tonight 29 Points and absolutely torched the Celtics at time what impressed you about him offensively he was murdering their switches I mean and Boston wants to switch a lot of things but I just thought Boston got caught in way too many matchups with Luka donic in the first quarter of this game that really weren’t fair uh Sam Hower then comes off the bench he gets him a bunch Al Horford Xavier Tillman like a bunch of guys that really didn’t have a the business doing it it didn’t seem like they got caught in this many cross matches in the first three games and Luca just played physically he didn’t settle for for you know deep step back threes with a hand in his face against these matchups he got what you’re seeing right here he got physical he got into the paint he got what he wanted um I thought his the way he handled himself was great in this game you know one of the things though that helps with all the attention he’s gotten for his defense and for the way he’s comported himself in these games just with his emotional you know overt frustration all the time well when you get up big early you’re not going to see that so Luca clearly was in control of his emotions and the defense wasn’t necessarily called into question because they got a big lead pretty early where he wasn’t targeted as much in the second half but there’s no question he played harder so give him credit he absolutely responded to the challenge he played Harder They played harder they got great minutes across the board particularly out the role players I thought it was a big big difference for Dallas tonight joining us now in the bright lights Luca donic can you hear me it’s Nicole Brisco yes what would you say what do you say about what was the difference in your team in this game tonight I think our energy and our Pace you know those two things I think we did a great job tonight Pace Pace Pace that has been the theme going into this game you just said it there how were you able to change it and do more of what you wanted to do in this game well we talk you know uh the season on the line uh I think the first three games so we didn’t do a great job uh so we talk we talk about it uh you know got to give credit to ke uh ke was the one he always talks about it uh and got to give credit to him you know he kept us together we’ve talked too about how your season early on it changed when there was a big defensive switch we saw a lot of Defense uh and you you shut down the Celtics tonight what did you do effectively in this game that maybe you couldn’t do in games one through three just trying to LIF everything out there I know uh we play a lot of games uh the end of season is getting tough uh but it’s the final so you got to give everything okay so 12284 was the final score and we heard you say after game three that you were going to go out there maybe uh learn a couple of things and and you vowed to have fun did you have fun in this one tonight yes yes uh a lot of fun uh and this is our basketball we got to play like this no matter what uh lose or win uh we got to keep playing like that having fun there that’s what’s all about okay so it’s easier to do that sort of thing at home it’s easier to have that sort of performance at home now you need to pack it up go on the road and do the exact same thing again backs against the wall in Boston how do you keep it up yeah uh we got to look at this game and learn from it because uh if we play like this you know it’s tough to bid us uh and we’re going to believe till the end uh we can’t lose no more so uh we’re going to leave everything out there physically how are you feeling amazing amazing everything hurts a lot less when you’re winning right yeah yeah way less way more less all right well whatever you’re having go have some more and we’ll see you in a couple nights in Boston thank you thank you have a let’s bring in the man who has been critical of Luca donic it is Brian wior let’s see if I can recap the last you know 48 Hours here Luca is a hole in the court uh he needs to be a better leader make better decisions because of course he fouled out and last game and he needs to control his emotions those were things that you said after the last game what are we saying about Luca now obviously he played a brilliant game it was exactly the kind of performance they needed from their leader he’s the best player in the series he was the best player on the floor tonight you know what I said because of the delivery was something that went viral but what I said wasn’t controversial people here in Dallas if they were being honest would agree people with the Mavericks if they were being honest would agree now viously publicly especially if you’re a fan of Luca you’re going to come out for your guy of course you are of course you’re going to defend your guy of course Jason kid is going to defend his guy but nothing that I said is anything that Luca hadn’t heard before and that’s why it was frustrating because he had heard it before and when the stakes were so big he allowed it to happen again and so he did put his foot in the ground today and makes make sure it’s stopped but that issue that he had to fight back in game three it will come again in his career whether it’s going to happen in this series or not I don’t know and what you want to see is him to handle it an appropriate manner that will allow him to be on The Winning Side in a game like that so it is it is a terrific performance by him but we will never know what would have happened if he hadn’t allowed himself to be taken out of the game because it could be 22 I I think it’s dangerous to make assumptions in playoff series well if this happened then that would happen we have no idea how tonight would have gone but if he hadn’t F out of that game I like the Mavericks would have won game three and him taking himself out of the game was really hurtful and so now he has been getting the long Trek back to making up for that that it’s going to go beyond tonight and probably even Beyond this playoff series all right uh as for the Celtics I was in the camp where I thought no I don’t care if they’re down 20 in the in the first half they’re going to come back this is going to be a close game and that lasted until about 30 seconds into the third quarter JJ reck said something to the effect of that was a poor excuse of the Celtics maybe they were body snatched what is the carryover from that Boston team now that they have to get on the plane go home and play again yeah Nicole this is such a difficult game to judge because it was such an outlier it was really the the worst game the Celtics have played I’d have to go back and look certainly throughout the playoffs in the regular season I mean it’s probably been the worst game they’ve played in months it was Dallas’s Far and Away best game in this series so it’s hard to say well one team is going to continue playing like one way or the other I think the biggest thing going into Monday is Chris ABS porzingis he got closer to playing tonight I watched him go through his pregame workout he was able to move much better than I thought he would he was never going to be in the rotation tonight I think he would have just been like a player they would put on the floor if they thought they were going to win the title um what is he going to be able to do with a couple more days because the one thing Dallas has been able to do is they’ve been able to score inside the paint when they’ve had the mind to go into the paint so that’s the big unsolved question that could carry over into Monday I do expect the Celtic to have a play with a lot more focus and energy on Monday just as the Mavericks play with a lot more focus and energy tonight all right Monday 8:30 Eastern on ABC like we said the game was over but the series is not we get to play on to a game five Mr windhorse thank you very much legs Luca was great offensively the it seems the key to this game was the way Dallas defended Boston tonight how would you compare the way they defended tonight versus the first three games there was just personal Pride tonight off dribble penetration that I have not seen in the first three games and by that I mean guys staying with the the ball handler all the way into the paint where they were at least right next to them if not in front of them at times and then staying active with their hands at the end of some of those finishes what you saw in the first three games was virtually any Boston player that wanted it was getting by the initial Defender and it was putting Dallas in chaos mode on the weak side and I thought they they had a lot of miscommunications two guys running to one shooter or nobody stepping up with penetration or if you did Step Up nobody protecting the shot blocker when you don’t let the ball get by you you don’t run the risk of so many defensive mistakes on the backside so it starts with the individual Pride at point of attack it was just much better tonight Boston had something to do with this I like what JJ said about you this was an imposter for the Boston Celtics I agree this is by far the worst game I saw Boston play all season it’s always a question of how much credit do you give Dallas for that how much of it is Boston it’s always both no question about it I thought Boston’s offense was a little bit too and you heard Joe moua have sound on this during the game it was too much one pass initial action somebody shoot the ball that’s not when Boston’s at their best they’re at their best when they get multiple guys attacking the lane on the same possession and they get you chasing it because they got they’ve got more quality three-point shooting than any team in the league that’s not what Boston’s offense looked like tonight and give Dallas Credit their energy kind of caused some of that but some of it was just Boston I think being lazy in their approach offensively tonight you’ll have to forgive me because I forget actually which series you said this about Boston but you said we have seen Boston’s sort of let off the gas at odd times throughout the postseason not during the season but then in the postseason was tonight another example of that I thought it was yeah and look there’s a there’s a lot of reasons of why that could be very shocking though to see a team that’s been fighting this hard with this with these two star players particularly right these number of years on the threshold they finally have a chance to lift that Trophy up for the first time and to play like this and to get beat this badly it’s surprising now good news is for them they go home now and if this thing were to somehow run the distance you got two out of three at home ultimately they’re going to have a massive response to this when they look at this film tomorrow and their their energy level at the start of that game Dallas is going to get Boston’s best punch in the first 12 minutes of that game on both ends of the floor because they they’re going to be embarrassed by what they just uh what they how they just perform to when they see on tape quickly as a player do do you want to look at the tape of this game if you’re the Celtics or do you want to just compl eras I I think Joe moua uses this if if I’m Joe moua I’m putting together a clip of 15 to 20 plays that are just not Championship standard not the standard they have set for themselves All Season certainly not the standard they’ve set in this series I absolutely want my guys to see that because that’s not who they are and now the challenge gets issued to them you saw the response out of Dallas defensively Joe mul is going to challenge his group well what are we going to look like defensively against this team on Monday night because look they’ve got two very dangerous offensive players okay so now that they’ve got a little bit of confidence right if you let this team hang around and you’re in a tight game in the fourth quarter and they’ve got Luca and Kyrie you know before you know it you’re going back to Dallas now for a game six and then who knows after that so I think the tone needs to be set early in this game I mean it was a total team effort by Dallas tonight illustrate for us where Dallas defended at its best yeah I going to show you two examples one is really just related to energy and the one to you have to have in this situation to dig yourself out the second one more like technically they were good defensively so take a look at the first one and kind of starts off good job here keeping the ball in front the ball’s going to end up with Jason Tatum was a nice job on the switch with Kyrie battles Jason Tatum on this drive but then here’s where it gets interesting right this ball is now going to be passed out and I want you to take a look at all of the effort plays here it starts off great job right here by Josh Green you’re going to see him jump into the passing Lane get the deflection but then watch what happens after that the ball is still loose on the floor you stop it again right here and you’re going to end up with three different Dallas Mavericks first of all you had Kyrie Irving who came diving from the corner he goes past the basketball there then you see Derrik Jones who’s under the rim he gets on the floor and then finally you get a third guy Josh Green coming in here Boston Celtic had a clear advantage to get to the basketball but watch it ends up in a jump ball out of this and this is just flat out Dallas wanting the ball more when you get three guys on the floor for one loose ball just to force a jump ball it’s pretty special and then this is the one I was talking about technically was pretty darn good you’re going to get this penetration here jayen Brown tries to get into the paint we stop it right here and take a look you got the uh Rim protection right here so you got the second line of Def fence and now you’re going to get a kick out when this basketball is kicked out to the corner watch the way the Dallas Mavericks close on this you’re going to get multiple close outs in the same possession one to the corner this one is so good you end up actually two guys this is a mistake right here by Dallas defensively but it doesn’t matter because you keep keep playing you should never end up with two guys on the ball on one close out that should put you in a tough spot on the weak side of the floor but watch the effort out of Jos green on the top side ball comes out he gets back into the lane One More close out you force a 24 second violation to me this was the type of thing to typify what that first half looked like for Dallas look there’s been so much attention on their defense you knew they were going to have a good response the question was how effective ultimately would it be by Boston and when Boston hit him with that big run how would Dallas handle that down 3 the big run never came Kevin so Dallas never had to figure out what that adversity felt like I mean really it was Total Domination throughout four quarters tonight in a 38o win in a game that felt like it was even bigger than that and leg on some level there has to be some concern with the way that Boston played tonight and just never able to counter punch what Dallas threw at them yeah I mean it’s a mystery and Joe moua seemed pretty casual there with the sound like hey you know right off Dallas played great I don’t know I’d be a little bit more concerned I think as a coach like what did I just watch what was that because the effort I thought was not there they lethargic I think that’s the best way to describe it they got hit with a similar run at the start of the last game if you recall Dallas came out of the blocks on fire got up double digits early by the end of the first quarter it was a one-point game in game three and then Boston eventually hit him with that big run in the third quarter that basically ended the game before Dallas made the comeback this was different Dallas came out again hot there was no response from Boston that’s was the difference in the two games and I think if I’m Joe Missoula I think couple things you’re going to look clearly at your offense and the stagnant how stagnant your offense was because it allowed Dallas to guard them and then you’re going to look a little bit at your own defensive energy and some of the switches you found yourself in that allowed Kyrie Luca I think to have special starts to the game which carried over to the rest of the team we came into the night thinking it might be a coronation for the Celtics and another championship Banner we leave tonight saying we may have ourselves a series again with the Mavericks getting back into it now 3-1 Tim legler great stuff tonight thanks
