Could Dejounte Murray be a viable option for the Sixers?

Could Dejounte Murray be a viable option for the Sixers?

I do think that there is Intel out there around the league that dejon wants to be a lead type guy like a the number one option on the perimeter at the very least and I think he’s not getting that in Philadelphia he’s certainly not getting it in Atlanta playing next to Trey young he’d be coming here being a third guy and not necessarily being happy with that and there’s also that’s attached to that it’s not necessarily a separate thing but it’s part of conversation as a clutch guy with a clutch guy leading the back court in Philadelphia I think generally and this is not just clutch I don’t I’m not this is not casting aspersions at Rich Paul generally management agents representation want to steer their guys in situations where they’re the lead they’re the the face of the franchise they’re getting the bulk of the opportunities so that one they can show what they have and two they eventually get the biggest possible payday now all that being said the reason that you have to consider the jeante if you’re the Sixers if he gets back to the defensive level he was at in San Antonio which we’ve said on the show he has not been at in Atlanta has taken a pretty massive step back there in terms of his attentiveness that would make him an ideal fit next to Tyrese Maxi in the back court somebody who can defend the bigger guards just take the tougher assignment in general and take some of the responsibility off of him on that end of the floor I’ve talked a lot about secondary creation on this show and the need to have guys on the team who can and will not just get their own shot but find shots for others now Murray maybe a tad overrated there like the turnovers are a bit High based on the playmaking but I do think he’s certainly better than anybody they have on the roster at present if we’re factoring in that Kyle Lowry is 38 years old and just can’t guys anymore to factor that in and the other part of it is you hope that playing next to Tyrese and playing off of Joelle you can create better shot opportunities for dejon that maybe he hasn’t gotten as both a lead guy in San Antonio and as kind of the you know the Dueling Banjo player in Atlanta and that he and then get back to doing all the things we saw when he was a young guy in San Antonio instead of playing my turn your turn with Trey young and really we’re only talking about de jante because in this world where they Circle back on deante because the Sixers from what I had heard were shooting down all any attachment to dejon ahead of the deadline is because they’ve struck out right like they didn’t get Paul George they weren’t able to get someone like a Jimmy Butler at a cost that they like and with Atlanta in this mindset of hey look we’re we’re probably blowing this whole thing up maybe they don’t trade both him and Trey young but we’re retooling in a major way we got the number one pick we got Jaylen Johnson we can start to you know build this new future with Quinn Snyder at head coach and you know the new front office as they get into what is it year two or three I think for Landry Fields as the the lead guy there I’m not I don’t remember the exact timeline but they can start reshaping the team entirely and so maybe the Sixers can get Murray at a price lower than it would have been last summer or pre- deadline where they’re operating from a stance of well we gave up a Kings Ransom to get them from San Antonio maybe they just there they say we want to move on we’re tired of this and the Sixers can take advantage so he’s certainly not my favorite he’s not at the top of the list but I don’t think he’s the worst they could do this summer and I do think the contract is at least manageable over the next few years yeah the contract is fair for sure like you’re talking 25 to30 million over the next four years that is a fair contract especially as the as the salary cap continues to rise certainly I would love more shot creation and more secondary ball handling we’ve mentioned a lot in the past that part of our concern is it doesn’t doesn’t seem like dejonte wants to be a secondary ball handler he wants to be a primary ball handler and I don’t think he is good enough to fill that role and if you’re going to take Maxi off ball like that you better be good enough to warn it um you have to have players in a role that they want to be in and that they’re willing to buy in long term especially if part of the appeal is well maybe he’s able to get back to the defensive you know aptitude he showed in San Antonio well I don’t think he’s going to do that unless he’s fully bought in unless he’s fully happy with his role and I’m not sure being alongside Tyrese macki and alongside Jo you know it’s not we focus a lot on tyres Maxi because he is a primary ball handler uh right now but also like Joel embiid’s going to handle a lot of the creation in the half court de Jon is gonna be playing probably more off ball than he has been in Atlanta is he gonna be okay with that and if he isn’t you know he’s a not unwilling but a slightly hesitant catch and shoot player whose numbers have been up and down over the years and that was the big question in his game coming out of Washington as well and if he’s not then a a incredible Defender well then I’m not sure the fit’s going to be there uh and like I said if if this is your one big shot and it’s really not because if the six can generate up to $64 million in cap space taking on his $25 million in contract doesn’t leave them with Paul George money but it leaves them with a lot of money so you could potentially pair him with somebody else and that’s part of the intry but if you’re if you’re not completely confident he’s going to be completely bought in be the defender he was early on in his career make improvements in his offall game then to me it’s a pretty tough sell we all like the man
