The Celtics Are Going To Win Banner 18…

well the NBA season is over the Boston Celtics are going to win Banner 18 the Dallas Mavericks lose game three at home in a game that I genuinely thought that they were going to win now granted I’ve been wrong about the MS basically every step of the way this season because I said that they weren’t that good I didn’t like the PJ Washington trades I was wrong about all that then they were good in the playoffs and they made it the finals and I thought hey they got the best player in the series they’ve been playing really well so I picked Mavs and six and uh sometimes you’re just wrong and sometimes you just got to admit it I have been wrong about the Mavs every step of the way including in in this finals my reasoning as I’ve said before as to why I thought Dallas had a good chance in the series was because I don’t think Chris HS porzingis was going to play all that well after coming back from injury and I felt like they had the best player in the series in Luca the problem is even without KP tonight Boston is just better than them Dallas has so many personnel issues defensively trying to deal with this Boston team because of the spacing that they put on the floor and they just don’t have the guys to guard individually one-on-one with the amount of that Boston has and that was never more apparent than in game three because coming into the game I was thinking okay if this is ever going to be a series if we’re ever going to get an interesting final Series this year it’s going to be because Dallas wins this game christs porzingis gets injured in game two he’s ruled out of game three and that changes everything for Boston because not only does it mean they have to play Al Horford more but it also means that they’re relying more on pton Pritchard Sam Hower Xavier Tilman was the guy that they ended up playing in this game I thought maybe it was going to be jacobe brette thought maybe it would be luke cornette it ended up being Tillman he had a good game but I really felt like that was going to give Dallas an option to attack every single time down the floor whoever the fifth guy was whether it was Al whether it was any of these other guys that was going to be the spot they were going to be able to attack and it was going to be so much different than the other two games because they always had somewhere to go and it just didn’t matter because they got off to this great start Boston didn’t shoot the ball well in the beginning of the game and Dallas didn’t take enough of an advantage of that and by the time the first half was over I was like Boston’s winning this game they didn’t even shoot particularly well in the first half and they weren’t it was was still a very very close game and ultimately the the failing here for Dallas was just not taking advantage of one the porzingis injury enough and two a poor first half uh by Boston standards and for Dallas they were able to get some of the stuff that they weren’t able to get in the first two games Kyrie was awesome in the first half and even though a lot of the other guys weren’t making shots they still were getting their two main players going Kyrie accounted for almost every point in the first half either scoring or assisting and then things just completely fell apart in the third quarter and the thing that they were always kind of pushing back in this series finally happened in that third quarter Boston just didn’t miss and as much as through the first two games they struggled to make shots this was always going to happen at some point for Dallas they were going to run into a situation where Boston Just Hits all their threes and they’re hitting all these mid-range jumpers they’re too good of an offensive team they’re too good of a shooting team to continue to shoot the ball the way that they did in the first two games and unfortunately for Dallas that happened at the worst possible moment for them and all credit in the world of the Boston Celtics because as much as I doubted them coming into the series because of how easy their path was through the Eastern Conference uh because of how much I thought Luca was just a significantly better player than anyone that Boston had they were able to deal with the KP injury throughout the postseason a guy that was a complete game changer for them and they were still good enough to beat all the still really good teams throughout the postseason and all the credit in the world to them this was not an outcome that I foresaw I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we ended up seeing a sweep uh here for Boston on their way to a title and they would be I think at that point they would be 78 and 20 or 79 and 20 or something on the season and with a I think a 16-2 postseason record if they were able to uh make this a sweep which would just be an unbelievable accomplishment you can say with you want to about the path injuries all that stuff but even without accounting for the porzingis injury even if they were fully healthy going 16 and two in the postseason is is incredibly difficult it’s almost record-breaking and when you then consider the fact that KP wasn’t healthy either just an unbelievable postseason for Boston and for Dallas I mean obviously it’s frustrating because it seemed like they had a good chance in the series a lot of people were behind Dallas um in the series including myself they were favorite in game three certainly once porzingis was ruled out but even before then and the things that worked well for them on this postseason run just didn’t work for them through the first two games Boston didn’t shoot the ball well that was something that worked out for them so far um their their ability to to guard was completely changed in this series because they had to guard all five positions on the floor Boston did the best job of any team so far in the postseason of attacking Luca attacking Kyrie of course personnel has a lot to do with that they have the best team out there to be able to attack those kinds of mismatches and at the end of the day as disappointing as this is for Dallas and their fans this just ultimately was a Personnel issue for them like the the first three rounds of the playoffs for them they felt like the bigger team they felt like the stronger team they had more length they had more defensive versatility and then Luka and Kyrie were able to finish games really well they never got a chance to have any of those close moments they never got a chance to really establish their dominance in in some of these late game situations because the games were never close because Boston three-point volume was there and as long as they were able to keep things close throughout the game at some point that volume was also going to turn into volume makes not just volume shots and uh that’s really all that it comes down to and the thing that’s crazy too is like I I felt like this was going to be such an interesting series because of the like team vers individual aspect of how good Boston has been all season long compared to how good Luca has been all postseason long and throughout his whole postseason career and this has just turned into another lackluster finals which has kind of been the theme the last 8 years like the the 2016 finals were unbelievable the Caps coming back from down 3-1 LeBron leading the Caps to a title and since then 2019 was the Raptors which was a pretty good series but obviously the injury stuff made it weird 2020 was the bubble and that was technically a six-game series but it never really felt like a series despite some really good performances from Jimmy Butler 22 was a six-game series and that was B and Golden State but that one never really felt like that great of a series either and all the other ones were just like this one not really that interesting not really that impactful not a series that anybody’s really going to go back and look at historically and I I’m just wondering when we’re going to get a good finals because I thought this was going to be it I really felt like the contrast and styles and how good the individual players on on the the Mavs were compared to how great the team was for Boston uh I really thought that was going to bring up an interesting matchup and it it just never did so at the end of the day all you can say is is congratulations to the Celtics I mean of course they technically do still have to win another game but a team as good as them a team that shoots as many threes as they do they’re they’re not going to lose four straight here so um Boston wins Banner 18 in like a kind of an unsatisfying way for I think a lot of fans out there but ultimately they built the best team and this is a a a front office uh achievement I feel like I mean being able to to get KP although obviously his impacts probably won’t be felt the rest of the series uh due to injury uh being able to get through holiday of course the previous front office having Jaylen Brown Jason Tatum all these guys um they’ve just piece by piece put together a team and uh derck Wyatt in there as well and I got to give credit to Joe maou and the coaching staff as well that was uh other than the bench that was my main concern with the Celtics this season was whether the coaching was going to be there because of how good em udoka was as the coach how he was able to turn that around and how shaky some of the stuff looked at times from an in-game perspective last year for Boston and their coaching staff uh rebuilt the coaching staff for one thing in the offseason after losing some guys in the middle of the year last year that clearly has helped and missoula’s been really good he’s called timeouts at the at the right times in the playoffs he’s pushed the right buttons they’ve attacked the correct matchups and since he took over he he started to mold this team into the vision that he had for them with this three-point volume with the way that they guard defensively constantly you know pushing on the margins constantly trying to be just that a little bit better try to be a little bit more analytical trying to continue to push and push and push um and UL ly of course it has worked out and it’s going to lead to another title for the Boston Celtics and although I wish the series would have been better and I hope the series and thought the series would have been better at the end of the day I think it’s very clear that the best team in the league won the title this year and that’s always you know a pretty satisfying conclusion to the end of the NBA season
