[Sidery] The Nuggets have concerns Kentavious Caldwell-Pope could earn a deal in free agency similar to Bruce Brown. A team flush with cap space could offer Caldwell-Pope well over $20 million annually to price out Denver.

The biggest difference is that the Nuggets have bird rights on KCP and if ownership is willing to spend that should be able to keep KCP if they're willing to reach the second apron.

However, if Denver think Christian Braun is ready to start, they can instead let KCP walk and be armed with an MLE.

Do Y'all think KCP is worth 20M/year?

  1. Yes.

Braun is not ready to start and even if he was, bench depth gets worse

If I’m Denver I don’t fuck around, I have a transcendent superstar and an awesome 2nd option – both in their prime – do what’s necessary or unravel like the 2011 Mavs

  2. KCP is absolutely worth it lol.

Elite 3&D guys are hard to find and basically every team needs them.

He’s got decent size, plays very good defense, is 31 (not terribly old), and shoots 40% from 3. Not many of those in the league available.

BBAAAHHH GGAAWWDDD!!! THAT’S THE CHARLOTTE HORNETS’ MUSIC!!!

Dude if KCP gets 20 mill, a mid level is gonna give us a bench piece best case scenario.

    RIP the Nuggets Dynasty (2023 – 2023)

  6. Kinda crazy that the Nuggets are having cap troubles with 1 all-star on the team.

Get your money, he already has two rings so maximizing your earnings makes total sense

As a Laker fan, don’t let this guy go. You’ll miss him AND he’ll make you regret it.

    Nuggets are cooked

Jokic and Gordon only core players they have not overpaid

KCP is a great reliable 5th starter, and maybe with the new money, that’s worth 20m idk

with him you know you’re getting 30-36 mins of good 3’d play and that one midrange hand off the lakers and nuggets run for him

i don’t think it would be an overpay for a team to give him that then, with bruce it is team specific, KCP is pretty plug and play

Do we know how much will Nuggets owners have to actually pay to match potential offers from other teams? That extra 6M can easily balloon into a 20M, 30M range… But with Jokic turning 30 soon and Murray’s extension looming, they better keep him because 2025 may well be their last season as a clear favorite to win the west.

  12. This is the story with so many title team, the core players get slowly poached away

  13. BetweenTheBuzzAndMe

Pay him and punt someone like Zeke Nnaji who really shouldn’t have been paid in the first place

With this new CBA, you’re simply not winning with a non-max player on a max contract.

  15. KarrlMarrx

OKC could improve their team and seriously fuck up Denver in the process

  16. Whoever they replace him with will be better than both, or at least Malone will publicly say so

This parity thing in the league is the shit. No one’s able to repeat or threepeat anymore.

  18. Mookieman707

KCP is worth 20M/year, but he’s not worth 20M/year to the nuggets.

    KCP is definitely worth it.

It seems like 15-25m/yr is the new 3rd-5th option price point, or specialized skills like 3nD, Defender, 3pter, 6th man, etc. Unfortunately a lot of the top heavy teams are getting priced out because of the cap. Denver’s situation is even worse, because they have Jokic, Murray, MPJ, and AG eating up 120m of their cap. They’re essentially screwed for depth.

Seriously, I cannot grasp why Denver thought it was a good idea to extend Nnaji for 4 guaranteed years at 8-9 million per.

The margins are already so thin, and now they’ve got effectively 9 million of nothing sitting on their bench. People can complain about MPJ’s contract (about 36 next year), but MPJ and a minimum guy is around the same money as Poole/Herro/Collins/Wiggins + Nnaji.
