“Goodnight” paired with The Shot was pretty good

  3. > prophetic prediction for the future of sports

Not really. The next year the Spurs dynasty began. And the following year the Lakers 3-peat began.

What are the chances of NBA on NBC bringing Costas back? Or atleast bringing back the artform of the excellent video essays to hype up the games?

That 98’ Bulls Team was the end of an era that reached heights the 21st Century has yet to see

Isiah must have hated sitting there listening to this.

  7. I think one of the reasons that people who try to downplay the 90s and Jordan in particular do so is because they don’t want it to be true that the golden age of the NBA happened over a quarter century ago and they missed it.

“Michael Jordan has longed for this day like he has longed for no other. For tonight his Chicago Bulls have the chance to close the door on the Miami Heat, of course if the Bulls go on to win the championship then yes he will have longed for that day the most, but tonight is its own day.”

  9. It is kind of wild to think about how in the 50s and 60s the same team essentially won every year for a significant stretch of time in 3 out of 4 major (edit: American) sports (Yankees, Celtics, Canadiens). Only the Bulls have achieved that level of dominance for most of a decade since, in any sport, though the Spurs/Warriors/Patriots have showed that legit dynasties are possible in the 21st century.

Let’s hope NBC brings back this level of journalism. Not like they have much to work with in the current NBA, though.

Well they correctly predicted all the player movement but ironically the 2000s would be dominated by two players who stayed with their teams- Kobe and Duncan. And as soon as their careers ended the Warriors dynasty started. Lol

Fuck reisendorf. Can’t build a team to reach the finals still for the 3rd biggest market and is content on being mid to fill seats and sell merch for his fat enough pockets. Sell the damn team

This is what 36 year old Americans looked like in 1998.

  14. box_fan_man

NBA on NBC was peak sports watching. It felt so real vs the garbage we have now.

  15. That iconic voice paired with an eloquently written journalism essay, chef kiss!

Great speech. MJ definitely benefited from his era, no way they would have been able to keep the same championship core for so long in todays NBA.

They should’ve ended the doc with this.
