the 2024 NBA draft is fast approaching the draft is less than two weeks away on June 26th and June 27th the Toronto Raptors have some important decisions to make and in this video I wanted to talk about the latest regarding the Toronto Raptors all of the chatter all of the rumors that have been out there we are going to dive right into it do me saw everybody hit a like on the video and subscribe to the channel for more Raptors content just like this so we learned some recent news/ rumors regarding the Raptors as of late as the Raptors are reportedly looking to move up in the 2024 NBA draft the Raptors are one of three teams including the Portland Trailblazers and Cleveland Cavaliers who are trying to trade up and improve their draft position according to Kevin oconor of the ringer Portland is trying to secure two top 10 picks while Toronto and Cleveland are angling to get into the lottery so an interesting report from o Conor of course take it with a grain of salt but you look at the Raptors I mean this is a team that missed out on a top six pick after their own first round pick fell to number eight and went to the San Antonio Spurs as compensation for the yaka purle trade when you look at some of the teams who are in the lottery that would be willing to move on from their pick there are a couple that Mak sense to me I mean the Memphis Grizzlies this is a team they’re currently slated to pick number nine I think they’re in win now mode that could be a team looking to get aggressive at somebody and trade their pick another team that makes sense Oklahoma City I mean this is a team that they already have so many picks to work with for their future they might not mind giving up their pick in this year’s draft if it means getting someone I mean this is a team that could use some front core depth then another team Sacramento number 13 the kings are a team that are trying to win now they’re not in any sort of rebuild so those are the three teams that make the sense to me who would be willing to trade their lottery pick if something makes sense and then the other question is if the Raptors do want to trade up and get into the lottery who do they have their eyes on it’s unclear who the Raptors would Target if they somehow do move up but some names that the Raptors could be looking at a saloon makes sense you know this is the ultimate Messi jury pick McCain is another name maybe the Raptors want to get into the lottery to snag him Holland but going on more about this rumor duck Smith of the Toronto Star recently appeared on the bom account podcast and he talked about Toronto’s upcoming draft and he said this and I quote I’m told by a guy that if they had stayed in the lottery kept that top six pick they had a guy they wanted that they really really liked and thought they’d be able to get I think if they can find a way to get that guy they would do it but I think that’s a lot it’s really really hard Smith did say that the Raptors would like to trade up into the top 10 but he doesn’t see them pulling it off you look at the Raptor’s lack of assets it’s going to be hard to trade up obviously they got to you know accept Bruce Brown’s team option before they can leverage him in any trades and then the other guy could see the Raptors maybe wanting to use as a trade chip is a yaka purle and so those are really the only guys on the current roster that make sense to me that the Raptors would trade at this point Gary Tren junor he’s an unrestricted free agent bue McDaniels they really don’t have any value at this point I found interesting and then remember San vianini of the Athletics said that the Raptors could have a lot of interest for their number 31 pick there is also significant expectation League why the Toronto could command a serious overnight offer for its number 31 pick from a team looking to jump to the front of Thursday’s line and select its top remaining player that’s what vinini said ultimately I don’t see the Raptors making a trade like Doug Smith said it’s hard it’s hard to see the Raptors having enough to be able to get into the lottery and clearly you know they’re not going to be able to get into the top six but even to try to trade up to the late Lottery the Raptors are limited in terms of what they can trade to move up then that leaves us to you know what the Raptors are report that came out recently about the Raptors expected to exercise Bruce Brown’s 23 million doll team option and use them as a trade chip entering the off season so that’s going to be something interesting to look forward to the Raptors will also look to extend All Star forward Scotty Barnes this summer Hoops hype reported as well and dug Smith reported earlier that the Barnes contract could be worth about 260 million us as soon as the first week of July some important decisions there got the Emanuel quickly restricted free agency I would be shocked if the Raptors fumble that the Raptors are going to pay quickly to keep them I think this is going to be a summer where the Raptors are going to lock up that core of Barnes quickly and Barrett is obviously still under contract for a few more seasons and then yeah the biggest thing is the draft I mean you look at the Raptors they have been linked to Zach Edy a ton Michael Scotto did say that the Raptors love homegrown Canadian born players and are a team to monitor for Zach EDI if he falls to their number 19 pick he did project Edie going number 18 just before the Raptors to the Orlando Magic so if Edy is still on the board just given the amount of Buzz that’s out there I would not be surprised if Zach Edy is drafted by the Toronto Raptors they worked them out Raptors need front Court depth and it seems like a pick the Raptors would be willing to take a chance on and develop and hope you know Edy panzo for the best now would I personally draft Ed at number 19 as I said in my video from last week no my stance hasn’t changed on that I think there are other guys that the Raptors would be a better off drafting with their first round pick I still like kle we who Michael Scotto projected going to the Raptors in his latest mock draft I like yea smiy bub Carrington ker those are some names that I think make a lot more sense for the Raptors at number 19 but again Ed is still available by the time the Raptors make their number 19 pick I would not be surprised in the slightest bit if they draft Ed so there’s going to be some interesting stuff regardless are the Raptors going to make a trade I think it’s highly unlikely but hey it’s still a possibility and then if the Raptors do keep those two picks who are they going to take a number 19 is Edie going to fall before then and who are they going to take with number 31 so there’s still a lot at stake here for the Raptors I’m sure there’s going to be a lot more chatter rumors leading up to the draft but I cannot wait guys it feels like we’ve been waiting so long for this draft obviously once the Raptor season ended it was all eyes on the Lottery lottery didn’t go the Raptor’s way for many and now all eyes are on the draft and what what the Raptors are going to do are they going to trade up are they going to stay where they are and ultimately who are they going to take so important dates coming up June 26 27th the NBA draft and then the off season is still going to be an interesting and important one for the Raptors as they are going to have some important decisions to make and uh I will do a separate video on that once we get through this 2024
