Are the Pre Draft Workouts a clue to the Wizards Draft strategy? Tyler Smith at 26?
the Washington Wizards brought in notable players for their pre-draft workouts are the pre-draft workouts a clue to the Wizards draft strategy and Tyler Smith is he a candidate at number 26 because he’s one of those players next on lock on [Music] Wizards you are locked on Wizards your daily Washington Wizards podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day what’s up everybody lowercase locked on NBA for our first deposit match up to $100 so again everybody we um the Washington Wizards had notable guys guys you want guys you know um in for pre-draft workouts and um are these pre-draft workouts are kind of a clue to what the Wizards draft strategy is and one of those players um is a target at number 26 Tyler Smith so we’re look at his scotting report and we’re look at where he can fit and if he indeed fits with what the waser Wizards are trying to do long term but let’s get into the pre-draft workouts uh shout out to um because this list U came from shout out to Greg fineberg man uh he’s the one to initially put the list out on Twitter AKA X so definitely shout out to my guy Greg fber man but um here’s some players that at at certain draft picks who the Wizards came in are brought into as far as pre-draft workouts at the number two pick the Washington Wizards brought in three significant players number one Alex SAR number two donin kingan and number three Cody Williams at number 26 Toler Smith from the G League ignite was brought in and Trenton flowers of the NBL was brought in and for the 51st pi in the second round trist Newton out of Yukon and Antonio re out of the University of Kentucky now as far as um undrafted free agents uh they brought in Keenan Black Shear out of Nevada McKai Mitchell out of Arkansas John Newman the third out of Cincinnati darus Brown thei out of Utah State and Darren Armstrong out of the NBL so looking at these uh guys um at the draft positions is just kind of giving a glimpse at what the Wizards are trying to do as far as the draft strategy I’m going to say yes um especially around the number two overall pick obviously alexar with a lot of noise with um rashay being a target of the San Anton Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks and how you know there was talk about a potential trade that was send the number one pick from the Atlantic Hawks to the San Antonio Spurs for their two draft picks at four and eight so you know if you look at number one you know a lot of names have floated to being the number one overall pick potentially through mock draft you know for a long time was Ron Holland then know was Alex SAR now Zachary s is really picking up momentum of being number two uh number one overall pick going to Atlanta but with Atlanta kind of in the gray area with Trey young jont Murray um they have a young roster but they also have again JJ Mar and Trey young who are are vets in the game who are when now players you know what the direction of the Atlanta Hawks is right now is very murky and they very well could trade back to get a couple of young players to pair with Trey young or J John C Murray but they very well could also trade Trey young and jnon BR and like I said um that would be something I would cover because lot of moves in all season especially the NBA is a domino effect so it could affect the Wizards to a certain degree so if that move if indeed a move for Trey young or did jont Murray from Atlanta is a move that is made I will be on here chopping up with you guys man because I think that especially with an in inner division team like the the Hawks you know with them trading uh significant players is definitely going to have a domino effect but let’s get back to the pre-draft workouts um obviously you look at names like alexar again you know he’s a guy who realistically could come to Washington at number two now he’s also guy who could go to Atlanta at number one um he’s not a name to a certain he’s not a name that’s really floated as a target of the San Antonio Spurs and that’s why I think the Spurs they like race and they they looked at Don MC lingan and but the biggest thing with potential fit in San Antonio is what how did they fit with Victor wiama so if you look at zachar rash who is slated to be a three and D Wing you know he could come in and be a really good piece next to Wim beama obviously both of them are French players so that French Connection really comes in the relationship uh they played with each other played against each other so those relationships matter uh number two looking at Donan kingan obviously the wizards look a they need a lock down rim protector in the paint and you know I mentioned that I’m a big fan of donin clean I mean if you look at his intangibles I mean he’s 73 280 pounds so he fits the mold of being that that Center who can definitely bang down low with these bigger centers in the NBA so I think that when he goes against your you know valunas when he goes against your Andre Drummond when you go against you know your bigger centers man I think that when you got a center who’s a rim protector who yes offensively he’s got ways to go now he has shown glimpses of a capability of adding a three-point shot and maybe a mid-range now he’s not you know he can play with his back to the basket he plays more of a traditional big he’s definitely a brim protector um how fast can he go in transition that’s another question because this is definitely a team that needs to move the pace to be successful in my opinion and obviously in the opinion of the front office and of players such as Jordan p and Kyle kman who agreed that pushing the pace would benefit this team going forward because they have the pieces to go to do so I think they you know when you look at you know what pieces to add in the draft you need to look at guys who can flourish in a faster offense you know a team that can definitely push the defense to the brink in transition man and definitely try to catch defenses off guard so um number three on the list um looking at Cody Williams you know his brother Jaylen Williams out of Oklahoma City Thunder Cody Williams a versatile guy his intangible his size you know he’s definitely a guy that could be a sneaker if you look at this draft you know from 1 to 15 it’s something to change I mean there’s a lot of good prospects in this draft I mean you see guys like Matas zillas who I think could be another sleeper at number two in my opinion but Cody Williams is a guy that is you know his draft stock is rising and he’s Rising a lot up a lot of draft boards um so let’s look at number 26 uh or the number 26 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft and a couple of people were’re looking at Tois Smith from the g- league ignite and Trenton flowers now I will be doing some scouting on Tren flowers I’m not very familiar with Tren flowers so I’m I’m not gonna go in depth on him and actually looking at number 51 I’m gonna um this week because of this list I’m I’m gonna um definitely do a video if not the next video the video at the next on trist Newton and Antonio Reeves out of Kentucky and the video after that I’m going to do these names from you know looking at the list of guys who are slated to be undrafted free agents but look at the Tyler Smith from the Gite man and now we’re about to get into his scouting report but um the fact that you know they’re they’re bringing him in for a pre-draft workout says a lot for what they’re trying to do at 26 now the jury is out on whether they trade back into the lottery should they yes do they intend to maybe um is that the plan right now we don’t know obviously there’s a lot of things that need to unfold a lot of Domin need to fall but you know look at at like I said we’re about to get into the Scout report I’m GNA make you guys Believers on Tyler Smith man but uh he’s a guy who could play he’s versal he can definitely play the ball man uh coming out of g-league ignite you know it’s kind of a it’s it’s it’s weird with the G League ignite because you know if you look at you know the Thompson Twins they were able to come out of there and um be draft high and contribute right away you know scoot Henderson you know um I think he can be a franchise point guard but he’s gonna have to develop man uh so there’s a lot of names but the Gite overall have done a good job getting these guys ready to be contributors at the NBA level right so Todd Smith is a guy that I like at 26 I mean if we’re able to draft um draft him and grab him a 26 man especially depending you know because you can play the four like I said we’re going to get into but um he’s a he’s a prospect that look if he’s available you make that move you Toler Smith is the guy that he’s he’s rising up draft boards too man um so definitely definitely like I said we’re about to get into Toler Smith man but those are the names for um the number two overall uh Alex SAR dony kingan and Cody Williams were all brought in for pre-draft workouts now they’re obviously going to bring more guys in and when they do I will be your first Source uh to let you guys know and like I said there’s a lot of good guys out there as far as Wizards content creators um like I said gr fineberg put the list together so this is based on that list man but I have been very active in covering are you know looking at the pre-draft workouts man so again at number two they brought in alexar Don lingan and Cody Williams and at number 26 overall they brought in Tyler Smith from the G leing night and Trenton flowers from the NBL and like I said going forward next episode we’re gonna get into Trenton flowers at 26 and looking at a couple of the pre-draft rookies F 51 and Tristan Newton and Antonio Reeves and then obviously we’re looking at some of these names from the undrafted free agent list but we’re about to get into Todd Smith which is one of the guys they they worked out at the number 20 26 overall pick slot so we’re going to get into him but before we do tonight’s episode is brought to you by Linked In so when you’re hiring for your small business you want to find quality professionals that are right for the role that’s why right everybody let’s get back into it now today we’re gonna take a look at Tyler Smith who again was brought in by the Washington Wizards for a pre-draft workout but he was a guy that I was going to cover today regardless man we were going to get into uh Terence uh Shannon man but I’m going to wait till tomorrow to do that because like I said I wanted to get that list out as far as the guys who were brought in for pre-draft workout but let’s get into Toler Smith everybody like I said very intriguing player man um let’s look at his his uh intangibles 611 with a 7-1 Wings span 226 pounds um looking at his stats from his previous season he averaged 13.4 points 5.1 rebounds 1.1 blocks and 1.4 steals per game which I like those defensive stats all he shot 48 uh .1% for the field uh 36.4% from three big stat but 56% the foul line so you know 56% from the charity strike has to get better but I do like the fact that he shot 36% from three League average is around 35 36% so I like that uh 48% for the field I like um the defensive stats I really like special the size of 611 you know around 1.1 blocks a game and 1.4 it steals a game and you know 13.4 points I like that coming out of the power forward position now what are some strengths what are some pros I like about him um his in his physique the fact that he’s 611 and S1 weeks fan man he’s athletic he the fluidity for his size he can move for his size and that’s a that’s what I really really like he’s a smooth power forward flashes a wing skills so you know he could he very well play the wing at um at small forward he could but I see him better at the power forward position which is definitely a position we need to draft for the future when indeed Kyle kman is indeed moved at some point we got a guy who could be the long-term answer at the four uh a few other things I like solid uh SL and cutter and excels at Finish heting Above the Rim so he’s athleticism man he’s a guy who’s going to dunk on some folk he’s a guy who’s going to be able to to finish and finish with some style you know what I’m saying he’s gonna he’s definitely going to posterize a few people man but I love the fact that he’s very versatile but you know he’s athletic and he can move with his size 611 he can move uh one more thing I like man um or a couple things um well three things I mean that this is a really likable player when you look at his tangibles I mean his jump shot is a really nice form I mean shot 36 for7 7 % from the three-point range so again he’s a guy who with a flu shot who his offensive standpoint I mean he’s going to get better he’s going to be a really he’s going to get better offensively in my opinion you know he can handle the Rock and I’m tell you initiating fast breaks after grabbing rebounds he’s a guy who can rad and transition which again we need guys who are a dogs and guys going be able to you know definitely be active in transitioning because this team is going to get faster because I think that is definitely the the the DNA they need install to Washington to make team better it has to be a faster offense you know we were first and pace and it showed in the second half of the season because this team was better this team played Harder They played faster and you saw the potential what this team can do if they put the right pieces in it and if they played the right way which is faster um in my opinion so Tyler Smith what are some things that I don’t like about him you know where every Pro there is a con right uh he’s raw he still developing man um you know he’s very very raw you know he’s got high potential especially at a guy who slated to be at number 2 six later in the first round you know you that type of draft depending on where we go number two again we have the ability to add a couple really high impact players and especially we if we find a dominant rough with the 51 we can come out of this draft with three guys who are going to be able to you know develop in the right system and be contributors down the road man which is something that we need in DC because again we’re going to year two of a rebuild um so Tyler Smith was other things that you know his defensive intensity needs work and his rebounding needs Improvement man you know two areas where I think can get better um but he’s definitely raw you know he’s he’s definitely raw offensively even though you see his offensive skills and the potential of it but defensively also U he’s not a playmaker he’s not he’s not a guy who’s going to be able to create for himself or others uh he’s you know he’s he’s a connector you know um so he’s a guy where he’s got to be set up and you know maybe he can add those skills later but he’s a guy that you see high potential offensively and defensively very very raw and a guy who’s definitely going to have to be developed which again as you know environment system and coaching are keys right and we have the coaching staff that’s going to be able to develop this guy so I think that he would fit in DC man so um yeah like I said uh look at a few other things but you know he he he has high marks and he’s a guy who you know he’s definitely G to definitely climb draft boards in my opinion he’s guy that if available 26 which now look at you know he could very well be there 26 if he’s there for the Wizards you definitely make that move man but you know he very well could be gone by 26 because he is a very high high upside player man I mean you know to me he has a high ceiling um well I’mma say this he has a low ceiling but a high floor I’ll say that you know his ceiling is low but he has a high floor if that makes sense to you for all you basketball heads Man U but I think that he’s guy that again that he’s if he’s available at number 26 man you make that move because you know right now the biggest thing is not only hitting on number two but we have to hit on number 26 if we trade back into the Lotter we definitely have to hit that pick and 51 you know we saw this previous draft underneath Will Dawkins that they can find Diamonds in the Rough in the second round the fact that we finally found a guy in the second round and Tristan vich shows you that this these guys know what they’re doing in the front office they’re G The Scouting department is revamped they know what they’re doing they scouting these guys and like I said you definitely see the progress as far as scouting and development because Tristan Vish was a hit in the second round and even if you look at the you know a couple players man you know that we were in position to get we were in position to get and rumor to get GG Jackson you know and um and um other I’m trying to think of the guy man but we traded him to uh Golden State but um we were able we I think that we have the ability to find those diamonds in rough in the second round so I mean this is a big draft for this team you know people point to next year and obviously rightfully so with Cooper flag and amongst you know other guys who are guys going to be able to contribute right away even though there’s a few guys in this draft who can contribute right away but this is more of a developmental draft but look and I get that we definitely need to hit next year we need to find that star guy but this draft right here as far as adding young death starting a youth movement you know really getting the development started and started right this is a really sexy draft in my opinion because yes you’re not going to find many guys going to be able to contribute but you this is a draft where if you are in the rebuild if you are trying to develop your young core these are the this is the draft because you’re going to be able to add three maybe four guys in this draft to Washington who could develop to be starters or high impact guys in my opinion who are going to be good compliments to the young Corp of Denny AIA Jordan P you know Cory kisper BL kulali and you know we’ll see Johnny Davis but U we have we have a lot of leeway you know especially with the salary cap situation like I said with free agency I’m going to do some free agent videos um a lot of people a couple people ask for Nicholas claxon even though he is slated to go back to Brooklyn but could we sway him that would depend on us missing out on the center in the draft because I think that we add a center it has to be in the draft and there’s a lot of good prospects to Center in this draft that I think can definitely be contributors a lot sooner than than later in my opinion you know if you’re looking at Don King and if you’re looking at Zack Edy you know Kil we and you have this um miss out of Bella man so you know there’s a lot of potential at the center position but getting back to Power Forward um like I said you know looking at K kosma and the fact that we we’re talking about Tyler Smith get back to Toler Smith um eventually we’re going to need a long-term Prospect at the power four position I think Tyler Smith’s that guy I think again if he’s available at number 26 overall you make that move you know and I think that power forward is a position that just like point guard and just like Center are areas that we need to show up not only for the immediate future but for the the long-term future power four is one of those because you know right now we all know that the we don’t necessarily need to move Kyle kman but you want to move him when his value is at his highest and I believe that we are at that moment so to Smith is a guy who can be the power forward of the future my opinion so like I said we’re gonna briefly look at the incinerate for the rest of the week uh what I’m trying to do and caller night like I said I hope everybody had a safe and blessed weekend man uh so like like I said we’re gonna get into the intinerary real quick of What U what content I’m gonna put out this week and obviously the week after next is draft week so definitely going to talk a little bit about that um but before we do tonight’s episode is brought to you by prize pick so you are wondering or you probably wondering Brandon what is prize picks well easy prize picks all right everybody I’m looking forward a little bit for this week like I said U we’re gon to um cover Taran Shannon then um tomorrow tomorrow night he’s a guy with um which with some legal stuff out of the way he’s a guy who has top 10 Talent who very well could be around number 26 or if he rises up because again he is a top 10 Talent we’re going to talk about his fit whether if we trade back into the lottery or at 26 and we’re going to look at a lot more options at the number 26 overall pick um this week also going to cover number 51 in the second round what talent can we add in the second round and look at the list um some guys who are slated to be undrafted free agents in this upcoming NBA draft so again uh we’re going to do a lot more draft content this week and I’m G delve into free agent stuff like I said we’re not gonna be very active for free agency um I think that retaining our own free agents are probably going to be the most newsworthy um transactions as far as in the free agcy Superior for the wi and the Wizards but like I said I’m GNA cover some like I said we’re gonna look at nichas flaxon you know he is a free agent now there are rumors that you know he’s looking to go back to Brooklyn but Money Talks so maybe we’re able to lure him but you go after Nicholas Clon if what you miss out on the center in the draft which I don’t see us missing out on the center in the draft but nevertheless we got to push that content out right so um like I said I’m gonna get into a little bit of free agency but like I said next U the week after next is draft week so you know like I said we’re obviously going to be dropping a live video for draft night um oh both nights in a row because I’m I’m going to do a live video for the first round and the second round um oh no excuse me the first round because actually I’mma put content out for the second round the day after the second round because I will be attending a function for uh the Washington Wizards in Washington DC on next Thursday night man um it’s going to be a draft um kind of a draft party where I’m gonna be representing Lockton Wizards man so definitely look out for that um um so again that’s how 10 going for look we’re getting closer to the draft so exciting times free HC periods coming up like I said the NBA Finals is wrapping up whereas looking like Boston is is going to take that series man you know Dallas good game last time but they’re to right now they’re just delaying it inevitable so looks like Boston’s going to be the next NBA champion but you know exciting times for the Wizards man entering year two of the rebuild so again appreciate you guys man as always uh tuning in and watching your boy chop it up with me so lockon has launched the first ever National Sports 24/7 Predraft workouts never have been a clue before. But that was then and this is now.
I know people don’t want 2 bigs with our picks but if they can get Sarr and Smith that would be great. I don’t really want Clingan but alongside a smith if we can’t get Sarr isn’t bad either. I rather worry about guards and wings in a better draft next year.
Something, something, due diligence, something, something. One of the dumbest damn expressions in sports. Right there with, "at the end of the day." Not every damn thing in sports happens at the end of the day.
